Assistance requested regarding User:Skookum1

Yunshui,

User:Viriditas is asking for a non-involved admin to take a look at this case.

Thank you, WhisperToMe (talk) 05:01, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm struggling to make sense of the back-and-forth discussions in multiple venues, and I'm not even sure what's being objected to, or by whom. If you want this issue investigated, I would suggest opening an ANI thread with a clear timeline and supporting diffs; sorry, but few admins will be willing to spend their morning wading through edit histories and playing join-the-dots to try and understand what's going on here. Yunshui  08:35, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice :) WhisperToMe (talk) 09:39, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Query

Can i know why Mark Nutley's username was changed to DarknessShines 2 by Ladsgroup ?--CosmicEmperor (talk) 18:32, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

In short, not really, no. The rename was performed at the request of ArbCom as a result of a private email discussion, but I'm afraid that's about as much as the privacy policy will allow me to tell you. Yunshui  08:23, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Editnotice

Hello, Yunshui. At The dress (viral phenomenon), the dress originated from Scotland which uses British English. I wanted to create an edit notice to notify all the editors to use it in British English, but only administrators and template editors can amend the edits. Can you please help me create this edit notice in favour? Thanks! Nahnah4 (talk | contribs | guestbook) 08:45, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Done, though this should really be discussed on the article's talkpage. Yunshui  08:54, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Checkuser request

A case against me was opened here. Editor Nishidani claims here he wasn't WP:Hounding me but rather watched Barkan Industrial Park page prior to my edits. I would like information on whether this fact is true.

I believe this has ground for checking since it is a legitimate concerns about bad faith editing.

As this is part a series of such AE requests (here and here), the information is quite important and I would love to have it before this current AE request against me closes.

Has Nishidani watched Barkan Industrial Park prior to my first edit on 20:22, 16 February 2015‎?

Thanks, Ashtul (talk) 13:40, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

That isn't something we can learn from checkuser data. As far as I'm aware, it's impossible to tell within the Mediawiki software what another user has on their watchlist at any given time. Yunshui  13:43, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks you. Ashtul (talk) 14:53, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
(Friendly stalker) Yunshui A related question:Is it possible to tell which editors are watching a users talk page? I know you can check how many are watching but can you (or anyone) tell "who" is watching? TY.... . Buster Seven Talk 13:20, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
The WMF programmers might be able to do so, but I doubt it. Watchlists are essentially sacrosanct - to the best of my knowledge, there's no combination of userrights that allows you to see what's on someone else's watchlist, or precisely who is watching any given page. Response

Responding to this comment

You seem determined to continue trying to aggravate User:Tetra quark by posting on his talkpage, so I am once again asking you to move the conversation here. Next time I won't be asking. Repeatedly posting on a user's talkpage when they have asked you not to do so is harrassment; it looks to me very much as though you are deliberately trying to provoke a reaction from TQ so that you can see him blocked again. You are not "behaving with civility to resolve this issue", you are purposely trying to escalate it. To coin a parallel, if your next-door-neighbour asked you - possibly quite forecefully - to stop urinating over his fence, would continuing to pee on his begonias, with the argument that they needed watering, be likely to make the situation better or worse?

You say that you have little choice but to continue edit-warring on another user's page to remove the offending text; here's another choice: how about just don't? No one is harmed by the presence of some bad words on Tetra quark's talkpage (for which he apologised, incidentally), and they're still perfectly legible if you strike them see?, so what are you hoping to achieve? Beyond antagonising an already aggravated user to the point that they start swearing at you again, I mean.

I was unaware that we had a rule whereby one (misinterpreted) policy trumped two other policies and three behavioural guidelines, so I'll be sure to bear that in mind in future...

Ultimately, my final word on this is: stop. Just stop. Leave Tetra quark alone, leave his talkpage alone, go and do something productive elsewhere on Wikipedia. Fire only burns if you keep adding fuel to it, so stop throwing on logs. Yunshui  13:08, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for you concerns. I have kindly asked this User to remove his derogatory and offensive text, several times. He continues to ignore my requests, delete any means of solving the issue, and reverses my necessary edits. If he refuses to acknowledge the incivility. I am not interested in getting this user Blocked, but I wish to remove the offensive text.
This User can quickly de-escalate this by removing the incivility, but be continually reverting the edits just means he's avoiding it.
Actually, I could have removed the text altogether, but that is unfair on the User, so I just struck it out instead.
As for "No one is harmed by the presence of some bad words on Tetra quark's talkpage (for which he apologised, incidentally)". Actually, he apologised to the Admin, John, but no one else.
Frankly, is the lesson here for me to start swearing at others too?
TQ can simply solve this problem. Q. Why won't he do so?
Cheers.
Note: It is absolutely no wonder that Wikipedia cannot get female editors which it is trying to currently promote), because the uncivil behaviour like this likely the principle reason they don't.
BTW. I really like your User Page background with all those pink blossoms! Arianewiki1 (talk) 13:39, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, I appreciate the compliment. I'm a big fan of sakura.
I think, fundamentally, you and TQ are going to have to agree to disagree over this. He has made it clear that he isn't planning to redact the swearing, and under the usual talkpage guidelines that is his right. I can't say that I think his decision is a good one, but he is entitled not to have his comments redacted on his own talkpage, no matter how poor the choice of language. Equally, I appreciate that you find it offensive - however the solution to offensive behaviour isn't to legitimise it by vigorously trying to stamp it out, but to disregard it until it becomes clear that no reaction will be forthcoming (if you have kids, I'm sure you know what I mean). Yes, TQ can solve the problem by removing the text in question - he has chosen not to, so why not take the higher moral ground and just ignore him? Yunshui  13:52, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
Firstly. I owe you an unreserved apology. Your 24 hour block on me was fair and quite correct, because I had completely disrespected you with my final revert when you had already warned me. I regret this most of all. I now realise the seriousness on why this sanction was imposed - knowing that under normal conditions the sanction should have remained regardless of what I've said and what I've done. I really do appreciate your words and advice, and will keep that in mind if another circumstance like this comes along. 3RR is there with good reason, and I will heed this from now on. (I should have asked for help and not did it alone.) Regardless of what is right or wrong here, the outcome is always tinged with some regret and even remorse. I will be taking a few days break from editing, as I have other duties to perform, but I just wanted to extend my appreciation for you dedicating time to my stubbornness/ silliness. I will try to be better. Thanks and Best Wishes.
Note: I also learnt something very interesting from you. It didn't know about the Japanese name of sakura and didn't know it was related to the drink sakurayu. Thanks for that! Arianewiki1 (talk) 07:37, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
To be honest, having slept on it, my first thought this morning was that I should come and apologise to you - I agree that the block was appropriate under the rules here, but I really think I could have handled things better by being less confrontational with you in the first place. I'm sorry I was overly heavy-handed. Civility enforcement is perhaps the most difficult element of any administrator's job, with a whole raft of often-contradictory and easily-misinterpreted policies and guidelines to enforce, and the temptation to just start throwing one's admin weight around (which I think I did, a bit) is considerable.
So my apologies to you, then, for not helping you through this situation with the required delicacy. Hopefully we can both draw a line under the whole thing and chalk it up to experience. My best wishes to you; I hope once your real-life duties are taken care of we will see you back on Wikipedia soon. Yunshui  08:32, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
Not to meddle, I think this was the reason here :) Shrikanthv (talk) 08:57, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Weigh in on an AfD?

Hey, I need someone with a good sense of diplomacy. I'm in the middle of an AfD for Rebecca Donovan and the AfD is starting to get a little heated. The issue is that there really aren't that many sources for the author. She has a ton of trivial and primary sources (which I've outlined in the AfD), but only three sources that may be usable- none of which is an actual review of her work. What we have so far is a USA Today article, a Boston Globe article that cannot be verified for depth (my Highbeam has expired), and an article in a local free magazine. I've been asking about the magazine on RS/N since it doesn't seem to be a particularly standout magazine like some of the other free newspapers or magazines like Village Voice. I've been accused of (and indirectly accused of) being numerous things on the AfD, one of which is that I'm combative and driving away potential female editors by deleting this article. Part of this stems from my asking two specific editors to stop using the AfD as a forum to say negative things about other AfDs, their nominators, and myself, as the way they're phrasing things came across as an indirect way to insult people. I'd warned the editor about this partially because he appears to be doing similar things at other AfDs, although not to this extent. I'd like to avoid taking this to ANI since this isn't particularly bad at this stage, but it's starting to get to that point. It's not that I'm against keeping the article, but I would like it to be kept on stronger sourcing and for better reasons other than the author is popular and that deleting it would drive female editors away. I'm going to let DGG know about this since if anyone's an authority on sourcing, it's him. If he says that the sources are good enough, I trust him. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 03:33, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

You need not worry

Hello, Yunshui. I figured out that you seem to have reminded and told Superkid761 to stop misbehaving on Wikipedia. You need not worry, as I am adopting him, so he will probably become better in future. Thanks, Nahnah4 (talk | contribs | guestbook) 10:02, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

It's to be hoped, though I fear you face an uphill struggle. Let me know if I can lend a hand. Yunshui  10:23, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
I only knew he had autism just now, as described on his talk page. I think I will think of an idea to help with that, and another user had recommended that they read the WP:AUTIST guidelines. Hence, I'm not surprised that he actually replied the questions on the adoption on his talk page himself. Thanks, Nahnah4 (talk | contribs | guestbook) 08:52, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
Do make sure that you actually read up on autism first, won't you? If you're going to work with an autistic editor you need to ensure that you know a fair bit about the condition. Yunshui  09:38, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
Okay, will do. Nahnah4 (talk | contribs | guestbook) 09:43, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

I use public computer, but I only use one account. My friends use other accounts in same place as it's a coaching center. As pointed out in the SPI by user Todd1, user CallAng222 is definitely a sockpuppet, maybe of blocked Msoamu (SPI record).--Slooppouts34 (talk) 22:48, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

There is no evidence that CallAng222 is a sockpuppet. There is ample evidence that you are. Yunshui  08:48, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
This CallAng222 account was created when there was a new ongoing heated debate on Islam's talkpage was going on, CallAng222's first 12 edits where adding wikilinks to pages to get autoconfirmed so that he can edit the Islam article. Immediately he started editwarring and started acting as a proxy for User Kiatdd. I am 100% sure that if you do a check, you will see that user Kiatdd and CallAng222 are sockpuppets.--Slooppouts34 (talk) 22:38, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Talk Page for Crisis Intervention

http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Talk:Crisis_intervention&action=edit&redlink=1

I have never seen an entire talk page be deleted before. How can discussion take place on improving the article if there is no talk page? You have deleted the talk page citing it was an "attack page" and a "Biography of a living Person". If such content was on the page the logical thing would have been to undo it from the talk page if valid; not remove the entire talk page. If you are an Admin then I declare it unethical and wrong that this talk page has been removed and demand that this talk page be restored to Wikipedia or you will reap what you sow (get bad karma). It seems you are some powerful special interest group does not want any discussion on this article topic. 71.79.56.225 (talk) 21:25, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

I'll live with the bad karma, thanks. Without giving details, suffice to say that talkpages are for discussion of the associated article, not of the article's subject. The content I deleted didn't belong either in the talkpage or in its history; since it was the only content on the talkpage I deleted the whole thing, rather than the individual revision. Yunshui  08:11, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

why am I tagged in posts on another page??

Hello why am I being tagged in a spammish post I don't know how to use this site but I keep getting emails about a account block and an ongoing conversation. This is very annoying please take me off if you can. I don't know if this is in the talk section or where to place this. follow up to Teahouse answer

Yunshui, you answered a question I posted at the Teahouse regarding how to empty/clear sandbox?. I responded with another question but no one seems to have picked up on it. So, I'll ask you directly: What would have happened if I had simply highlighted the whole article in my sandbox and deleted it, to clear the page. I assume it would have registered as an edit, but what else? I didn't choose this route because I feared causing some unintended chaos, in part because of the Redirect link that had appeared at the top of the article.

Thanks for you help. Cantabile3 (talk) 03:52, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Sorry about that. The answer is that you would have blanked the article - the live article - and probably have been told off for doing so. Remember, whilst the redirect is in place you were being directed from your sandbox to the article in mainspace, so if you were able to see the text of the article when you opened the edit screen, you were no longer looking at your sandbox (which would have had something like #REDIRECT [[name of live article]] as its only content). Good thing you didn't take that option!
The easy way to check is to look at the page title (the main heading at the top) - if it says "Editing User:Cantabile3/sandbox" then you're editing your sandbox; if it says something else, then you're editing something else. Yunshui  08:31, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

what to do here

I haven't checked all of them, but this user seems to be creating redirects for actors who are not in themselves notable to take readers to the TV shows for which the actors are known. Nothing wrong with that - all the ones I've looked at seem to be valid redirects, and they can always be overwritten if the actors later become article-worthy. Yunshui  08:37, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

GA on new subject

Hi Yunshui , I was working on this article for long and had left it for some time now, is this ready for a GA nomination ? Shrikanthv (talk) 08:39, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

You could nominate it, but it still needs a lot of work. At the moment, some of the key issues that would need to be addressed are:
  • the prose - the grammar and sentence structure throughout the article is very convuluted and difficult to understand
  • the lead - contains information which is not in the article body, as well as some unique sources
  • unsourced statements (see the section on Jung in particular)
  • original research - in several places, there appears to be an interpretive slant on original philosopical texts
  • coverage - I get the impression that the coverage could be considerably broader: where, for example, is the information on intuition in sport, in the Myer-Briggs types, in business (needs more than one sentence, whole books have been written about business intuition), as a truth verification system, as a guide to morality? There is a lot more that could conceivably be included in the article.
You've done a sterling job improving the article - it looks much better than it did when you started - but it's not going to pass a GA review in its current state. Yunshui  09:01, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Hadn't talked to you in a few months

Yunshui, I have decided that I will work more on American silent films of Sessue Hayakawa and Tsuru Aoki, two popular Japanese born stars in Hollywood. I intent to take Hayakawa owned Haworth Pictures Corporation to GT status along with its several productions. I have applied to Newspapers.com to find more sources on these films. In most of his films Hayakawa was typecast as a villain and some people in Japan have criticised him for presenting a wrong view of the Japanese people. I will begin work once my exams are over. Use of "in press" article on Misophonia

I understand that wikipedia cannot include promotion of the author's website. The additions I made to Misophonia were based on an accepted, peer reviewed journal article, which I thought was OK. I will wait until the article is formally published later this month before restoring those additions. I can then link to the journal web page.

I will be more careful in the future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomdozier (talkcontribs) 21:02, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

I'd be wary of re-adding the journal even after publication - as the author, you have a bit of a conflict of interest with Wikipedia, and you're likely to be accused of citation spamming if you put the creference back yourself. I'm not for a moment suggesting that it's not an appropriate reference for the subject, but you still might be best advised to post a message at Talk:Misophonia (using the {{request edit}} template) asking someone else to put it in for you - this would avoid any problems. aGastya  ✉ let's have a constructive talk about it (: 08:03, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

It varies - some adopters put their charges through an adoption school (mine is here, as an example), some help their adoptees create articles or teach them about specific areas of Wikiepdia, some just watch over their adoptees' edits and comment when they deem it necessary. You'd have to discuss with your adopter how you'd like the process to work. Yunshui  08:07, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Ban_appeals_reform_2015

Hi Yunshui. I love the cherry blossom!

I don't know if I'm a bit late late with this, but I have supported your view at Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Ban_appeals_reform_2015#Discussion_of_Tighten_and_streamline_existing_system but i consider 3 could be amended in the following way "BASC would normally continue to exist for the appeal of site bans only. BASC would automatically decline any request from a user who is not subject to a site ban, unless there was privacy or other important issues to be considered. But they would have the option to allow talk page access for appeals in the usual fashion, if that had been disabled."

I wonder if you have any views? --Mrjulesd (talk) 00:00, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

The re-enablement of talkpage access for banned users is somewhat irrelevent, since banned users with no talkpage access would need to appeal their ban directly to BASC anyway (either for ArbCom review or community review, see Wikipedia:Banning_policy#Appeals_and_discussions). Talkpage access for users who are blocked (not banned) should still be dealt with via UTRS. So I'm not in favour of that last sentence, although adding a proviso about privacy issues gets my vote. Yunshui  08:04, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. Replying to the hypothetical situation where your proposals were implemented: while it is true that users who were blocked, and not banned, could still be dealt with through UTRS, I think there are certain advantages of allowing BASC the option of allowing talk page access instead. Having appeals through talk page access allows additional transparency in the block appeal process, allowing the whole community to see rationale for allowing or not allowing unblocking. But obviously this would be optional for BASC, as not allowing talk page access would be appropriate in many situations.
Anyway, it's interesting to get your views. Thanks for that. --Mrjulesd (talk) 09:31, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Gerda. Had a few days in hospital, but I'm back home and at least moderately functional again now. Yunshui  10:07, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Health, CVUA

Hey Yunshui! Hope you're feeling better to edit Wikipedia. :) A long time ago, about 8 months ago, we had a CVUA page set up. Do you know of any way I can "graduate" from the CVUA with another user or with you? Cheers, and get better soon! Brandon (MrWooHoo)Talk to Brandon! 13:11, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Blimey, that was a while back... At the moment, you've got about a score of about 57%, and there are a few questions that remain unanswered - if you finish it off with a score of 70% or more, I'd be happy to graduate you. I imagine if you go over your edits for the last couple of months you'll probably find enough examples to tick all the remaining boxes. Yunshui  14:32, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Sockpuppet Investigations

I am curious about how long these normally go on for - perhaps you know. I have been named as a Sock and the investigation seems to be going on forever to the point where, and yes I know its spurious, I am starting to feel hard done by.Peter Rehse (talk) 12:35, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Peter. Nice to hear from you. I've just come back to Wikipedia after a prolonged absence, so haven't seen anything about this - give me a bit of time to look into it. From experience, SPIs can drag on for a while, but I'd be quite surprised if one so spurious wasn't closed fairly quickly. 12:37, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, that's an absolute joke. I've posted a note asking the next available clerk to close it. Yunshui  12:47, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Just saw your Talk page header - hope things are better and thanks.Peter Rehse (talk) 13:05, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Getting there - it'll be awhile before I'm strong enough to go busting heads on the mat again, but I'm at least out of bed and pottering about now. Yunshui  13:11, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

In fairness, I didn't actually write it out myself - we have a template called Template:Welcome that can be put onto users' talkpages using the code {{Welcome}}. Nevertheless, I hope you found it useful. Thank you for smiley! Yunshui  07:20, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Deletion

Hello. I made a request that a deleted article that you had something to do with be re added. This person is actually notable...but I did notice some ...there was some problem? Anyways if you get a chance could you please look at it again? I am typing with one finger on mobile for the time being and cannot do much here. Hank Harrison is the article2601:C:6783:6A01:E960:209A:35D8:6C75 (talk) 00:54, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Well, Yunshui deleted that page over two years ago as a result of this deletion discussion which appears to have focused on WP:NOTINHERITED and sourcing not establishing notability. It may be best if the page is completely rewritten from a fresh start with new sources to establish notability better; why don't you try writing it at Draft:Hank Harrison? Origamite 01:06, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
The deletion was performed after a community discussion, not off my own bat - if you want to dispute the deletion, you'll need to go to Deletion Review and start a thread there (though bear in mind that you will be disputing my analysis of the discussion and subsequent decision to delete, which, given that the discussion was unanimously in favour of deletion, would be rather a hard sell). I would recommend, instead, that you consider Origamite's very sensible suggestion to start a new page from scratch as a draft; that way you won't run the risk of a G4 speedy deletion. Bear in mind, though, that the draft will need to show that he's notable for more than being Courtney Love's father. Yunshui  07:35, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Get well soon! Pine 02:35, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Pine. I'm pretty much recovered now - in fact, given that I spent last night taking vigorous breakfalls off the end of a and being strangled close to unconsciousness, I reckon I'm probably well enough to take that notice down now! Yunshui  07:37, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Copyrighted or public domain

Tokyo File 212 was released in 1951 in USA. It is available for download at Internet archive. It's license had to be renewed in 1979, but wasn't. I searched http://cocatalog.loc.gov and found that it is included here and in this copyright security agreement from 2007. I have nominated it for DYK here and included a screenshot with the hook. Can you please check and confirm whether it is in PD or not? Thanks, --Skr15081997 (talk) 08:47, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Having had a look, I'm honestly not too sure. The last definite copyright on it seems to have been in May 1951 by RKO Pictures, but it doesn't appear to have been renewed, as you say. However, I'm not full au fait with the intricacies of U.S. film copyrights. It might be an idea to ask Moonriddengirl's opinion; she's always been my go-to person for copyright concerns. You could also consider just removing the image; it's not especially informative at thumbnail size and so probably wouldn't be used in DYK anyway. Yunshui  08:13, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your help, I have removed the image from both the article and nom page.--Skr15081997 (talk) 09:16, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Can you give me the date of a UTRS ticket?

User:Royalmate3 is requesting unblock. Royalmate1 was in the UTRS system at one point (Cat:RFUB now shows basic UTRS details, and I remember seeing him there). Could you give me the date the ticket was closed, or is that not allowed on-wiki? Origamite 19:15, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

There's no private information involved so I see no reason not to tell you. His first appeal was declined on March 26th, by Mike V, and he was given the standard offer on April 3rd by Nakon. The SO naturally resets from the last action of Royalmate3, so if he wants to get back to Wikipedia under that offer, the earliest he can appeal again is October 16th, 2015. Yunshui  07:42, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
And RM3 was created on April 3. Just what I thought, thank you. Origamite 11:24, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
