Wtstoffs
Welcome back, Gators fan
editHey, Wtstoffs. I have noticed your recent edits to several Gators articles, including the main Florida Gators football article, over the last several days, as well your past contributions to a variety of other Florida Gators player, coach and team articles. Like you, much (if not most) of my Wikipedia editing time is spent working on articles related to the University of Florida and Florida Gators sports teams. In the time since you have been really active in you editing, there has been a great deal of standardization and upgrading that has taken place in the Florida sports articles, as well as WP college football articles generally. I invite you to drop by the WikiProject College Football talk page and check out where the project is and how it is evolving to upgrade the general quality of CFB-related articles. The CFB guys will be happy to know of your presence and interest, and will no doubt start recruiting you for various on-going projects.
It's probably a small thing in the context of Will Muschamp's on-going assembly of his new staff, but we really should not be adding any information to the Gators football article that is not "official." With regard to Charlie Weis, Stan Drayton, D.J. Durkin and Aubrey Hill, they may very well be among the new or retained coaching staff to be announced on Monday or Tuesday, now that Meyer's time is up. The bottom line, however, is that those hires have not been announced, officially or otherwise. Various Florida newspaper columnists have reported that negotiations with Weis are on-going, that Hill is expected to be named to the staff, and that Drayton and Durkin are expected to be retained. None of these hires have been publicly confirmed by the assistant coaches, Will Muschamp or the UAA, and by definition these are not verifiable sources of fact per WP policy (see WP:V). Wikipedia is supposed to be an encyclopedia, not a sports column, fan website, or newspaper (see WP:NEWS), and we should not be engaging in unsourced additions to any article based on conjecture and expectations, whether printed by the media or not (see WP:CRYSTAL). It is not Wikipedia's mission to provide news scoops, but to provide accurate information as that information can be verified by a reliable source. If we can't provide a footnoted citation (see WP:CITE) for a fact asserted in a WP article, then arguably that fact should not be included in the article unless and until such a source exists and such a footnote is included, even if the "fact" is "common knowledge." You will also find that WP has also become much tighter about sourcing facts for the biographies of living persons (see WP:BLP); any fact that is not sourced and footnoted in a BLP article is subject to being deleted for no other reason than it is not footnoted. After reviewing these policies, I will leave it to your informed judgment whether the inclusion of Weis, Drayton, Durkin and Hill as assistant coaches is appropriate prior to an official announcement or at least a verifiable and otherwise reliable mainstream media source affirmatively stating that they have been hired. Personally, I would like to see the Florida Gators and Florida Gators football articles upgraded to Good Article status (see WP:GA) over the next several months, and that will require that pretty much every sentence in the main body text of these articles be footnoted with an appropriate source (excluding the lead paragraph or lead section). If you want a sample of where this is headed, take a look at the Andrew Sledd article about the University of Florida's first president.
Thanks for considering my comments in the constructive spirit in which they are intended. I look forward to working with you on the Florida Gators football article and others. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 04:45, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Short of a Bernie Machen/Jeremy Foley press conference, GatorZone.com is official as it gets. Works for me. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 21:34, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Lots of good edits. The WikiProject University of Florida can certainly use your enthusiasm. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:35, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

And not that this is news...
edit- You've been around since 2006, so my remarkning that IMDB is not consiered a suitable citation is probably not news, and when a new article is seen only with poor citations it is sometimes seen as non-notable. I'm simply stopping by to let you know that through my own WP:AFTER I believe the film meets the criteria of WP:NF and will simply require work... as I remarked at the AFD, I found enough that will allow expansion and sourcing. I'll be doing just that. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 22:01, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
