Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Township Act of 1798, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Somerset County and Fairfield, New Jersey. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Recognition and "hiya!"

On a recent Halloween night after many troops of children in various costumes (mostly TV and movie characters and princesses and such) had given the correct salutation and been given their due rewards, it had rather gotten late. Alone a boy walked up the path and rang the bell. I saw him in his plaid and sash and other regalia and instantly remarked "Oh, a scotsman." "Finally!!" he blurted. It would seem that in my benighted land I had been the only one to recognize his costume. I was the more pleased, I think.

Since I'm usually not very quick of thought, 'what?' seemed fitting without being off-putting. One wants to be quirky blandly. Fun fact: you can obscure 50-75% of the center of Chinese characters and most can still be accurately recognized by the bits that stick out the corners. Same with me! :-) Shenme (talk) 06:11, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Oh, I was just indirectly relating to your peeking behind my username and recognizing the costume (nearly clever and all that). :-) In the above tale, nobody else had even wondered what the poor boy's costume meant. Thanks for the hello! Shenme (talk) 20:57, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

oh That makes sense. i see your indirect reference haha. Thats neat. Im chinese so i knew the meaning. :) @Shenme:

Userpage

Hi there. I noticed you created the page User:WinterySteppe – since titles and usernames are case-sensitive, this is actually a different page than your real userpage at User:Winterysteppe, and is not associated with any user. To avoid confusion, you might want to redirect it. You can also easily change your username if you want to add the capital S. Thanks! — Earwig talk 01:44, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Orchard Park Elementary School

The article Orchard Park Elementary School has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

An ordinary elementary school, with no evidence of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Sovereign (Dekker and Lee Novel), and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.thriftbooks.com/w/sovereign_ted-dekker_tosca-lee/761714/.

It is possible that the bot was mistaken and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

I used subst:template:unsigned to "sign" your recent edit to Talk:Vlad the Impaler (diff). Good thing I had that page on my watchlist, because the "ping" only works if you sign the edit at the time you make the ping (see WP:Notifications for details). Anyhow, even though I didn't get your "ping" I did (eventually) see your comment. I'll keep the page watchlisted for at least a week. Hey Wintery, I just noticed you changed the title to this article. Titles use the common name of the subject of the article. It is not always necessary to translate a foreign title into English. Speedy deletion nomination of Lexus LC 500h

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Lexus LC 500h requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Not at all. No shame in muddied boots if you're actually out there tending the fields. I've stepped into the middle of a dizzying barrage of vandalism before, and ended up restoring the vandalous version. I'm remembering tussles between birth dates or birth places. Now, I sometimes load up a version of the article from a few months or a year back, just to see what was established before the storm hit. I saw that my indent on the comment above could be ambiguous as to whether I was addressing you or Materialscientist, but on reflection, I thought it kinda worked both ways, so I left it. Reversion

Sorry to revert you, but the IP is permitted to remove warnings from their Talk page (and by doing so, they acknowledge that they have read them). General Ization Talk 19:55, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

I get it. 04:01, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
@General Ization: I didn't restore the warnings, but I would like to add my thoughts here. I respect a registered user's right to curate their talk page, but I believe an IP talk page should be treated differently. Even though it usually makes sense to treat edits from an IP address as being from a single user, it is still the case that the edits are made from a shared resource (the IP address). Especially where the notice removals [4] follow so closely after they were posted, an argument can be made that the notices were possibly intended for other editors using the shared IP, and cannot be construed as being read by the appropriate person. I decry the prejudice that IP contributors often face, and am fully behind WP:IPs are human too, but there are differences between registered and unregistered editors, and without registering, I don't think an editor can assume such control over a shared resource. My two cents. Willondon (talk) 18:53, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
@Willondon: You're entitled to an opinion, and to use it to justify your own edits, but unless you can point to any policy that calls for the Talk pages of IPs to be treated differently than other Talk pages, I'd suggest this is bad advice to give to other editors. Admins have been very clear on this point in the past: users, including IPs, have the right to remove warnings from their Talk pages unless and until they are blocked. General Ization Talk 18:57, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
@General Ization: Bad advice. Point taken. I can't really point to any policy because my WP-space reading so far leaves me with the vague impression that you are right. This might be a case of "if you don't like it, change it", so I'd be grateful for any pointers to where this has been discussed before, without presuming on your further efforts and attention. Cheers. Willondon (talk) 19:09, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
@Willondon: Here is one such discussion (the first one that came up in my search, not necessarily the best). As you will see, there are others who think of this in the same way as you do, but no proposal to develop a specific policy to prohibit IPs from removing warnings from their Talk pages has thus far been successful. General Ization Talk 19:16, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, Winterysteppe. I'll get off your talk page now. I just wasn't sure where to take this discussion, exactly. (Looks like this is bigger than both of us. Might go all the way to the top!) Cheers. Willondon (talk) 19:28, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I edited the wiki on Functional Neurological Disorder today after it was changed by someone else. The information on it was biased towards a certain idea about the condition and myself, as well as others who either have or have researched the condition were upset about this. We changed the information to incorporate the facts which were changed alongside the information from the original version. However, you keep reverting it back to the biased (and sometimes incorrect) version. I just wondered why?

Careful! :-)

Using rollback and without an edit summary must only be for vandalism, per Wikipedia's rollback policy (however, it's okay to use rollback if you add an edit summary using a tool, etc). This reversion you made, while I completely agree with it (the IP removed a lot of content), didn't appear to be blatant vandalism. Why have you done this ? What's wrong with the new version ? 77.197.156.61 (talk) 16:03, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

i went on Google to look up the laws. It appears the death penalty has been abolished. Take a look at this link. It said that the daeath penalty was repealed in 2015 and the 8 people on death row were commuted to life in prison. Your edit was the opposite of the repeal, saying it is still legal, when it is not. No. The marshall project article was published in August 2015. In September 2015 the signatures necessary to suspend the bill have been submitted. This article was in the introduction of the version I proposed. 77.197.156.61 (talk) 16:28, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Unexplained removal of content

@WinterysteppeThank you for reverting my edits for Marion County, Indiana. I will be reverting them back to the edits I made, but will also explain the edits I have performed, next time I save it. If you look through my history, I am part of the project that is updating the information for all of the secondary (high schools) education centers in the state.

I understand you reverts were made in good faith, so thank you for performing the action. ZCash1104 (talk) 16:27, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

oh sorry ZCash1104. It just seemed really sudden all the information was removed. so feel free to revert back. I make mistakes too. Winterysteppe (talk) 16:29, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Not a problem Winterysteppe! :) It's why I thanked you for it, as it keeps everyone honest and reminds of the reason for explaining performance done! Thanks again ZCash1104 (talk) 16:33, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Castles of Portugal

Its one thing to revert the structure, because its "neater", its another to eliminate greater content in favour of an uncomplete list. I reverted your "neater" version because you removed many additions to the list of castles in addition to photos and wikilinks to existing Wikipedia articles. Feel free to remove the columns if you wish, but seriously consider the fact that my content addition expands the list of castles by incorporating a comprehensive list from the Portuguese national register (SIPA).ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 22:10, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

For one thing, i didn't believe the castle list needs to include a whole series on "watchtowers". Its a list of castles. Watchtowers are not necessarily castles although castles include watchtowers more often. Im not gonna change it because I might be more wrong that correct. However, the columns without the box may be easier to link to when i finish creating more castles relating to them. I'll take a look at the register. Winterysteppe (talk) 22:19, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of American Cyanamid Superfund Site

A tag has been placed on American Cyanamid Superfund Site requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

Hadith of Najd

It appears to me that the IP that was blanking parts of Hadith of Najd was confused by extracts from WP that were quoted in an online forum. That said, a check to see if that is really true (I have a plane to catch and don't have time to read it through) and a check for POV would be advisable. In the future report this sort f thing to AIV rather than reverting over and over. Clean blanking is less disruptive than straight-up vandalism and it can live as blanked for a while. I haven't reverted the last removal pending review, but I did block the IP. Acroterion (talk) 08:20, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Twinkle

Hi. I saw your vandalism report at ANI, and I wanted to point out that Twinkle has a really cool reporting option that can get vandals blocked very quickly. If you click on Twinkle's "arv" tab, it opens up a window for reporting users to a few different noticeboards, including WP:AIV. If you report vandals to AIV, they usually get blocked much quicker than if you go to ANI. Plus, sometimes people get a little grouchy when you report vandals to ANI. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 01:45, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Oh hi yeah i saw that on Twinkle. I read that AIV required a level 4 warning. Doesn't it mean that they have to be warned? and yeah I will remember that. Winterysteppe (talk) 02:10, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, generally, they need to have been warned appropriately (vandalism after a level 4 warning). But it's still usually a better choice, as AIV is set up specifically to handle vandals. Also, it's often quicker, as more admins watch AIV. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 09:05, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

IPs revert on User:Cactus Writer

The IP is correct that he/she was reverting vandalism on this user page. I have been tracking down the edits by a different IP and two user names, all the same person apparently. That user has been placing invalid speedy deletion tags on article pages and placed one on User:Cactus Writer. Another sock has been placing invalid documentation templates on various pages, perhaps to disguise the speedy deletion tags or perhaps as additional vandalism. In any event, I have seen that the IP who reverted the edit on User:Cactus Writer had picked up on the vandalism by the other IP and socks and was attempting to revert it. No criticism here, just thought you would like to know. Donner60 (talk) 02:23, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Donner60 Thanks for telling me. After he reverted me, i just looked at the items and was a little confused. Thank you for clarifying. Winterysteppe (talk) 02:59, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
No problem. I have been confused a few times by multiple vandalisms and partial reverts as well. If I remember the sequence correctly, I had seen the IP who made the revert on User:CactusWriter's page also make a valid revert in an article. So I think I was alert to the fact that he/she was trying to make a correction. Donner60 (talk) 05:40, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
sigh, I honestly have resigned to the fact that a huge majority of IP users are vandals. Its gotten to the point where I hover over the "revert" when i see IP address add a bunch or remove a bunch. Winterysteppe (talk) 05:48, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Nevada City census data

There have been several back-and-forth edits to the Nevada City article regarding the population of Pacific Islanders according to the 2010 census. On 14 Feb, 2016, a user from 72.185.221.20 first incorrectly changed the figure to 1,187, and changed the population from two or more races to 439. These numbers conflict with the figures provided in the reference cited in the article. This was corrected by 2620:0:1008:1100:48a3:8d2d:5f12:f217 on 1 March, 2016.

On the same day, you reverted the corrections with the comment "double check the sources". After noticing that the numbers didn't add up and the percentages weren't correct, I double-checked the source and found the following:

Population by Race
White 2,837
African American 26
Asian 46
American Indian and Alaska Native 28
Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander 0
Other 40
Identified by two or more 91

On 28 March, 2016, I corrected the page so that it matches the provided reference. The same day, you reverted the correction again with the comment "You have to use census data."

I would like to request that you clarify what you mean with these comments. If you can cite census data that shows 1,187 Pacific Islanders and 439 of two or more races in Nevada City, then provide the reference. The reference in the article clearly shows that the figures you keep reverting to are incorrect, not to mention that they are demonstrably wrong using simple math (1187 is not 1.2% of 3068; neither is 439 0.4% of 3068). If you cannot provide a reference, then please revert your changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Savastio (talkcontribs) 13:29, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Geoboxes Reply

The Geobox template is the standard definitions established at the template page, but with modifications by myself to apply to the Portuguese context. If you wish, you can find it on my home page or just reuse the template. I find that the Geobox format is more flexible then the simple predefined format for castles, allowing more content and well structured organization. Also, Winterysteppe, you might want to add four "~" to the end of your messages, so that your signature is included in messages. I almost didn't understand from whom the message was originating. Good luck. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 20:36, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks! Yeah i should remember to put my signature. Also, i went to your homepage and found it in /Sandbox8. If you don't mind, im gonna copy the format. Winterysteppe (talk) 20:40, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
No prob. Only note, that SIPA "Status" and "Listing" was not added to that Geobox. In that case you should add/replace the following content, for example:
| free2 = '''Property of Public Interest'''<br>''Imóvel de Interesse Público''
| free2_type = Status
| free3 = Decree 40/361; DG, Série I, 228 (20 October 1955)
| free3_type = Listing

Hope this information helps. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 20:58, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Castles of Portugal

Yes. I am adding content to the castles articles, depending on my time and referential resources. I am being selective on which ones I add at this time, but at the same time, I am moving names from the Portuguese to English variants and adding categories, accordingly. As I am writing, I have an article in development on the Castle of Alenquer, and have already expanded Alcanede and Alegrete today. As you have already noticed, I expanded your article on Rebordãos, in addition to Castle of Mau Vizinho (Vila Real) and Castle Fortress of Almeida within the day. Please note, regarding your translations, please take content from PT Wikipedia with a grain of salt. It is a "wild west" environment over there, with little referencing and supported "facts", many times taken from Portuguese sources verbatim (ie. copyright violations per Wikipedia). Also, do not run translations through Google Translate and copy-paste them into the EN Wikipedia article. I have come across too many translations from other writers that translate inappropriate things, and produce the weirdest mismash of illogical statements. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 17:31, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Oh ok. So i should be a little more careful in some of the "facts" written there. By that, i mean, selective choose some of the information. Specifically, those that are more reputable. Winterysteppe (talk) 18:14, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
No, more like, check available sources to see if they substantiate the arguments, as it were. You will note, that most don't have references, or might have deadlinks, and may only over-embellish with fanciful statements (such as about "most important" or peppering comments with "flowery" or overly-rosy descriptions out of line with an encyclopedic source). Information from SIPA, IGESPAR and the DGPC are usually logical and verifiable from agencies with the technical know-how. SIPA/IGESPAR provides facts, and DGPC provides context. As they said in the Cold War: Trust, but Verify. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 18:26, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Why include the request for expansion from PT Wikipedia? As I indicated before, none of the content that hasn't been already referenced from PT Wikipedia has already proven by verifiable sources. A request for expansion will result in people adding false/unproven content. Castles

Hey Winterysteppe, hate to trouble. Could you look at before creating new articles? Your doing a great job in building on stub-class articles, but in addition to this article, there have been a couple cases where a new article was created, when an article already existed. I refer to Castle of Mertóla article. Back in the "olden days" some of the older article writers began populating the Castles of Portugal category with most castles using Portuguese tiles (i.e. "Castelo"). For some unfamiliar with this situation, it has resulted in the creation of duplicate articles: one with a Portuguese title, and others with English translations. At this moment there are about 50 such "Castelo" articles. In the future, we could save some administrative time by "moving" the article namespace before expanding them, otherwise we'll need to put in a manual Redirect to the new name (which is messy). My intention is not to be critical, just to advise you of problems I discovered in the Portuguese to English namespaces. I have come across similar problems with churches, convents, fortresses and palaces of Portugal in the past. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 19:33, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Hey Zeorymer, perhaps that is the better way. When you say you discovered the errors, are you saying that manually creating the redirects is too troublesome and some could be confused? Winterysteppe (talk) 19:36, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
An article on the same subject should only have one page. Its not really an error to create a new page when one exists, if it happens by accident. It just means that one needs to follow up by correcting the error. This could mean turning the original page into a manual redirect to the new page title or requesting administrative support. With your article on the "Castle of Ródão" for example: an article on "Castelo de Ródão" already existed and you created a new article, which is okay. But, then, I followed up by creating a Manual Redirect from the old article to the new article, blanking-out the content on both the article and talk pages (its called WP:BLANKANDREDIRECT). Using the "Move" is normally quick and automated way of accomplishing the same thing without having the hassle of manual redirects. It requires little effort: it uses the "Move" command (if its non-controversial) or you may still request a move through an administrator or "request for moves board" (its spelled out on WP:MOVE). In the case of Castle of Mértola, an article with the same name redirected to the Portuguese original ("Castelo de Mértola"), and you created a new one called Castle of Mertola. This is a whole other can of worms that will require administrator intervention. Luckily I know a seasoned veteran who can help and who can council me on the proper procedure. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 20:03, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Hey Zeorymer, i was wondering, do you think it woudl be good to import articles and then modify them? Winterysteppe (talk) 04:39, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi EdJohnston, I think i restored it correctly. Winterysteppe (talk) 01:44, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Hasty archiving

Archiving after 4 days diff. Seems very hasty. Could you explain, please. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 03:50, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Disruptive archiving

Starting a new section because it looks like you're creating a lot of problems. I originally noticed that you archived an active RfC at Wikipedia talk:Videos. Now I see that you archived to Wikipedia talk:Notability (people)/Archive 21 -- with no extant Archive 20, Archive 19, etc. (it uses a different archiving system). Please stop and fix/undo. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 04:29, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

I do want to add that I think spending time cleaning up talk pages is a noble effort, but archiving in particular can be tricky and disruptive if done incorrectly. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 04:34, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
In particular, there is no point in archiving unless the talk page actually is full of topics, and active. I'll restore the active RfC, that's clearly wrong. --OpenFuture (talk) 04:43, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
You are still archiving like mad on talk pages where no archiving is needed. In some cases I've looked at, you archived every thread on the page. Why? Can you explain what you are doing? ―Mandruss  05:01, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Call me a little hasty. Didn't realize some threads were active. Winterysteppe (talk) 12:58, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Manual archiving

Please don't manually archive talk pages when they are being auto archived. Not only can manual archiving easily and unnecessarily lead to errors, but you have also removed more threads than the five thread minimum that the auto archiving bot leaves on the talk page for clarity. Thanks, Editør (talk) 08:41, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Premature archiving from AN3

Hell Winterysteppe. WIth this edit you removed a report that had not yet received any admin response, and was less than 48 hours old. Please restore it. In general, reports shouldn't be removed until 48 hours has passed since the last edit. That is the archive timeout shown in the noticeboard header. Self-requested block

Hi, Winterysteppe. I see you requested a block on my page, to work on your exams, but then changed your mind and asked HJ Mitchell instead. That's fine, just let me know if you should want me to block you after all, in case Harry's not around. But it's good to not be hasty about these things — sleep on it! Bishonen | talk 15:47, 8 April 2016 (UTC).

Bishonen Hi, I took at my edits and it had 1k edits in 24 hours. I was a little hasty so i ask for weekend self block for now. Wikipedia is getting addicting. Jeez. So I must ask for a weekend block. 100% serious. Winterysteppe (talk) 16:00, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

I must ask you if you have seen my conditions here: talkpage blocked, e-mail blocked. If you say yes below, I will hardblock you from now to Monday 11 April 13:00 UTC. (That's Monday 7 AM in eastern US.) Right? Ask for another ending time if you like. Bishonen | talk 16:31, 8 April 2016 (UTC).
Yes. I read it. I understand it and confirm that i want to be blocked for the weekend. Winterysteppe (talk) 16:41, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Done, have a good weekend. Bishonen | talk 18:50, 8 April 2016 (UTC).

Jason Day

Why wouldn't the feast day for Jason of Tarsus not be listed? Why is it a vandalism warning? -- 70.51.45.100 (talk) 02:54, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

His name is not Jason Day. It is Jason of Tarsus. His feast day is July 12th. you don't string the name jason with the word "day" and put it in Jason Day (disambiguation). You should put it on feast day Winterysteppe (talk) 02:57, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
His name is "Jason", and the feast days for saints are "Day" so, Jason's Day would be something that is likely to be sought from "Jason Day" -- 70.51.45.100 (talk) 02:58, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
No. "Jason Day" is a name. "Jason's Day" is more or less colloquial from modern day speech. !Winterysteppe (talk) 02:59, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
"Jason Day" is a pagename for a DPAGE, And colloquial speech would say that it is a term to be sought from that pagename. -- 70.51.45.100 (talk) 03:04, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
I invite you to edit. Lets see what you want it to be.

Vandalism notices

So I see two vandalism notice you just posted. Can you give me a link to the vandalism to which you refer? --LilHelpa (talk) 23:59, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

@LilHelpa: That wasn't Winterysteppe who warned you, but Winterystepe who's impersonating them, instead. Please just disregard the nonsense left by said impersonator. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 00:05, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi @LilHelpa: acknowledged. He's blocked now, along with the other one. Winterysteppe (talk) 00:52, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi @LilHelpa: please see the |SPI I have filed. Winterysteppe (talk) 16:10, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Please provide context

Greetings! You left a message on my user talk page threatening to ban me if I continue to vandalize Wikipedia. To the best of my knowledge, I have not committed vandalism among my 90,000+ edits. Please specify your reason for the message. Thanks. Pegship (talk) 00:01, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

@Pegship: That wasn't done by Winterysteppe, but rather by the impersonator Winterystepe who copied the wikimarkup and such of the real Winterysteppe. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 00:06, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
@AddWittyNameHere:: Thanks for the note. Is anyone reporting this, and if not where should I go to do so? Thanks. Pegship (talk) 00:08, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
@Pegship: No problem. It's not the first or only attempt at impersonation the past few days, most likely all by the same person (MO is very, verrry similar in each case). Current incarnation is blocked, copied userpage CSD-tagged and deleted, copied parts of usertalk removed, edits have been reverted and I've left a note here with a short explanation, as well as keeping an eye on this talkpage for a bit to explain what happened to folks who come here, so in regards to this incarnation of the impersonator, everything seems to have been dealt with. They'll probably pop up again, however, so should you come across any fresh accounts leaving a lot of final level warnings, block notices or similar such templates on user talkpages, check their edits to see who exactly they try to impersonate and then report the impersonator to WP:AIV. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 00:16, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi @Pegship: I have filed for a Sock-puppet Investigation. Winterysteppe (talk) 16:11, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Important note to visitors to this user talk

User was the recent victim of an attempt at impersonation. If you received a warning seemingly from them that makes no sense, it is very likely this came from the imposter instead. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 00:04, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

User:Winterystepe

The user User:Winterystepe has been posting {{uw-vandalism4im}} templates but signing posts with your username. Hence the messages above. I have blocked the account, but it may need more. Tassedethe (talk) 00:05, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Tassedethe; I came here to request an expanation of this diff; I now have one. Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:13, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you Tassedethe. I was reading stuff randomly on Wikipedia and i leave for 15 minutes and then this. Dang this escalated quickly. Kudos to you for catching this in 6 minutes. Also, I will tag everyone who was affected and didn't see it. Just to let them know on their talk page. Winterysteppe (talk) 16:12, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi @Tassedethe: I have filed a sock puppet investigation into the two accounts and another that targeted Oshwah at User:Oshwash. Winterysteppe (talk) 16:12, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Good luck! Tassedethe (talk) 00:15, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Another impostor

Heads-up: seems they came back as Wimterysteppe. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 00:39, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. Saw the tag. Im gonna file an SPI, maybe. Winterysteppe (talk) 00:41, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, figured I'd give a heads-up here because I wasn't sure of your ping-settings. It's almost certainly connected to the rash of impersonator accounts recently. See also Special:Contributions/Oshwash (impersonating Oshwah); Special:Contributions/Number 56 (impersonating Number 57); Special:Contributions/Adam90007 (impersonating Adam9007); Special:Contributions/Chesnaught666 (imp. Chesnaught555); Special:Contributions/BethNought (imp. BethNaught), and at least one or two more cases I currently can't find back. Suspect it's connected to a longer-term abuser, evader or puppeteer, but wouldn't know from top of my mind which one. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 00:57, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
, Thank you for the heads up. I deeply appreciate it. Hmmmm, Is it possible that the imposters are connected? Possibly. However, If i add those other ones to the SPI, it might not hold up. CheckUser requirements are quite stringent and a clerk likely will shoot down the extra people, except for my two imposters. As for a long-term abuser, likely its the same person. Winterysteppe (talk) 01:33, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
The Oshwash case at the least demonstrates an identical MO: copying user & usertalk page; mass-templating other users while using the signature of the person they're pretending to be. Number 56 also shows heavy overlap in the way they spammed MASSIVE amounts of text to their usertalk after they were blocked but still had talkpage access. One of the two who impersonated you did the same before their talkpage was deleted. But, since it's deleted, I can't say which one it was. Maybe even both, since both had their talkpage access revoked after the block. CU requirements tend to be strict, yes, but not that strict in my experience. Accounts don't have to be identical in everything they do to get CUed, and at least for Oshwash the case really couldn't be much clearer: Impersonation attempt by creating a username with a one-letter difference, then mass-templating people with level-4 warnings with the exact signature including mark-up and links of the user being impersonated. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 02:00, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
I'll make note of that in the SPI case i filed.Thank you Winterysteppe (talk) 02:05, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

You're welcome. Let's hope anything useful comes from it, aye? AddWittyNameHere (talk) 02:07, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

yeahhhhhhh! I hoping for a hard block. Made me waste 30 minutes for dealing with the aftermath.

You would have been justified in simply reverting their edits (as long as nobody else had replied) - this was obviously a return vandal because they knew their way around warning templates and suchlike, and edits made in violation of a block and/or ban can always be reverted, especially when they are pure harassment. I don't think it's the same troll who has targetted me; the BethNaught impostor was the one who's been after me, their style is quite distinctive, but the person impersonating yourself and Oshwah seems a bit different. A CU will hopefully be able to tell which return troll it is. --bonadea contributions talk 06:49, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
