Thanks for uploading Image:Flatfoot56wallpaper.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

What is a tag and why is it a problem? The 33kb size of the png version concerns me. - Diceman 19:18, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
- The tag states "please upload a PNG or SVG version of this image, derived from a non-JPEG source". There was no point in putting that specific tag on this image and there is no increase in quality whatsoever with your png conversion. It is in fact the png image that is obsolete. The person who put that tag on the image has wasted everyone's time. - Diceman 14:02, 15 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Just to say thanks for posting such a very helpful welcome on my talk page. Most useful. Cheers :) Allegro Agitato 22:14, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello WillMak050389/Archive2, and thank you for your support and kind comments at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). I was very pleased with the outpouring of kind words from the community that has now entrusted me with these tools, from the classroom, the lesson in human psychology and the international resource known as Wikipedia. The Free Encyclopedia. Please feel free to leave me plenty of requests, monitor my actions (through the admin desk on my userpage) and, if you find yourself in the mood, listen to some of what I do in real life. In any case, keep up the great work and have a fabulous day. Grandmasterka 07:24, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply |

Thank you for working to replace Image:Doop logo.jpg with a PNG version. Unfortunately, simply converting the JPEG version to a PNG, as you did to create Image:Doop logo.png, doesn't help much.
When an image is saved in the JPEG format, it suffers from compression artifacts, due to JPEG's lossy compression algorithm. These compression artifacts manifest themselves as "fuzz" in the image. This fuzz is usually invisible in photographs, so JPEG is preferred over PNG for photos, as it can more efficiently compress photographic images. However, for logos, maps, graphs, flags, line art, and other images that have sharp edges and large areas of a few well-defined solid colors, PNG compression is more efficient than JPEG compression. Additionally, compression artifacts are highly visible in these images. So the PNG format, which uses a lossless compression algorithm that does not introduce compression artifacts, is preferred for these images. For more information, please read Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload.
JPEG compression actually slightly changes the color of many of the pixels in the image; these changes are the compression artifacts. If a JPEG of a logo, flag, map, or similar image is simply converted to a PNG, these artifacts will remain, and they will dramatically reduce the efficiency of the PNG compression, since the image no longer has large blocks of solid colors (instead they are large areas of pixels with slightly varying colors). So converting a JPEG directly to a PNG does not improve the image quality, and it will usually increase the file size.
The {{badJPEG}} tag is used to request that a non-JPEG version of the file be uploaded—a version that has never been compressed as a JPEG. Often Wikipedia editors will make the non-JPEG version from scratch in a graphics editor; for example, many flags that have been uploaded to Wikipedia in the JPEG format have now been replaced by brand-new SVG versions. Other times it is the case that the JPEG version on Wikipedia was converted from an original GIF or PNG version; in this case the original PNG can be uploaded to Wikipedia, or the GIF can be converted directly to a PNG, since the GIF format does not introduce compression artifacts (although GIF images can have poor color depth).
Again, thank you for working to fix the problem of images with inappropriate JPEG compression on Wikipedia. Please continue to help us; there are many images that need work. If you need help or have any questions, please let me know. —Bkell (talk) 11:17, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
- When you saved the logo from the "official" site, [1], you probably saved the file as "doop.jpg" (since that's what the site calls it). The .jpg extension is a good indication that the image is in the JPEG format. If you don't see file extensions on your computer (Windows XP hides them by default), you can always right-click on any image on a Web page and select "Properties" or something similar; there should be a field in the Properties window called "Location" or "Address" or the like that will show you the URL of the image, which is http://www.doop.org/img/doop.jpg (as before, the .jpg extension is a good indicator that the image is a JPEG). So that original image is already compressed as a JPEG, and it will already have compression artifacts.
- But that site doesn't seem to be an official Futurama site; it seems to be a fan site unrelated to Fox or any of its affiliates. So it's possible that there is an official Fox page that will have a PNG version of the DOOP logo (more likely you will find a GIF version, which can be losslessly converted to a PNG). But you'll have to do some searching. —Bkell (talk) 15:54, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Would like you or someone else to look over what i have done so far and tell me if its suitable. I have also found several characters that are in the recurring pages instead of the secondary page. These characters would iclude The Robot Elders which only appear in Fear of a Bot Planet and have no story arc making them secondary not recurring. Please tell me what you think on this issue.

Will, I can't tell you how much your barnstar meant to me. You left it on my page at a time when I needed it the most. I was really feeling low. You just cheered me up so much and gave me such a smile, I can't even tell you how much better you made me feel. Thanks forever for that, WillMak. Hey, Will. There's a lot of reasons why I'm feeling down. I won't burden you with all of it, for sure. One reason is the deliberate harassment campaign that a group of editors are doing on this article Anarcho-capitalism. It is a featured article. There is a deliberate attempt to sabatoge the article (See history blah's edits), and they are meanwhile trying to remove it's featured status. Wikipedia:Featured_article_review/Anarcho-capitalism They are a group that either identifies as communist-anarchists or (maybe some of them) just identify as socialists. I am an anarchist myself who is neither anarcho-capitalist or communist-anarchist. (I don't pesonally believe there is any such thing as communist-anarchist, at all, though.) They are also harassing certain editors like Vision Thing, me, and two editors who have been banned, Hogeye and RJll. I have seen editors get blocked and banned through deliberate campaigns by the socialists and other left-leaning liberals, and believe me, there are a lot of them in here. I don't care if they are here, because I have a 'live and let live' attitude about all this. It's what they do to others that bothers me.
If you can help by reviewing this situation and giving your opinion at Wikipedia:Featured_article_review/Anarcho-capitalism, it would be greatly appreciated.
All I want to see here is the return of Wikipedia to being a real encyclopedia. Right now it is a not so funny real bad joke. If you don't mind sending me an email, I would appreciate it. If you feel like it, please just send it directly to <shannonlaunois@excite.com> Thanks. Shannonduck talk 16:16, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey, Will'm. Can you check this out? I voted here Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Misza13. Maybe I voted wrong, but I doubt it. These requests for adminship that have an enormous support (and amazingly) from rouge admins is a tad suspicious, don't you think? If it were the other way round and the sound of the ringing bell were "We need more fascist admins", I would have the same opposition. Well, anyway, if you get a chance to look into it, all or most of the rfa's seem a bit strange to me. Ta, dude, in friendship and freedom Shannonduck talk 15:33, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for taking the time to express an opinion in my recent request for adminship. I have withdrawn my self-nomination because there seemed little prospect for further productive discussion or the formation of a consensus to promote. Many commentators offered constructive critisism that I will use to improve myself as a user. Others suggested that the nomination was premature and that a re-nom in a few months would be more likely to gain consensus. I will strive to continuously improve as an editor and hope that by any future RfA I will be able to garner you support. Eluchil404 20:29, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Will, Thanks for participating in my RFA! Ultimately, no consensus was reached, but I still appreciate the fact that you showed up to add in your two cents. I have plenty of questions! One question is: Where do I find a comprehensive list of images? When I go to the image area it just confuses me no end. Hope you had a relaxing vacation. Thanks for your offer of help. Dude Aronomy 19:23, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your quick response and for the info. I was wondering if there was a list of all the images, as I am finding it hard to find certain images. I believe they can be found at Wikimedia Commons, but haven't looked into that yet. Maybe I'll do that now. Thanks, WillMak050389. You are a good welcomer! Dude Aronomy 19:43, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, there a few images, or categories of images, that I am looking for. One is religious ones in general. Paticularly images of Jesus and images of the cross. Also religious icons and just all around images of different religions. Another is images of wild birds, wildlife in general, as opposed to domestic pets, and nature images. That's a lot to ask so if you're not up to looking for them I can't blame you. I know you are busy helping a lot of editors and replying to comments, since you have just gotten back from vacation. I just joined Wikimedia Commons. I think all the wiki images may there. Not sure. Thanks, again. You are the best! Dude Aronomy 20:04, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks. I want to use them for articles, of course. Before finding new images to upload I just want to find what is already here. Merci, beaucoup. Dude Aronomy 20:25, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I understand you are a huge futurama fan. There are five seasons not four, but the page says four. Now, I tried to fix it and it simply went back the way it was so I though maybe you ought to have a look at it. Diewelt 16:08, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

- Sorry, I didn't notice that you had replied to him (after years on Wikipedia, I seem to never get accustomed to cross-talk page conversations :-) The "hidden message" was in reference to this, after which I took his message to you as trying to gather support for using airing seasons instead of production seasons as canonical. Seems I overinterpreted, sorry. Haakon 16:59, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

but I feel better about my "contributions to society versus characters in signature" ratio over there. Just wanted to ask permission before making a change. Thanks much! DukeEgr93 04:38, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Lemme have a guess, you were born on the 5th of March, 1989? Or is it the 3rd of May, 1989? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.54.74.33 (talk • contribs)
Well, to be honest, it in some ways rubs me the wrong way, but I thing legally you can do it: look here for font copyright law. Regardless, some people release fonts that they make anyway, so it may not matter.--Esprit15d 12:54, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
File:Scarlettanager99.jpg | Hello, WillMak, and thank you for the support on my recent RfA. The final tally was 72/1/0, and I have now been entrusted with the mop. I'll be tentative with the new buttons for a while, and certainly welcome any and all feedback on how I might be able to use them to help the project. All the best, and thanks again! — Deville (Talk) 01:34, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply |
