NASCAR

edit

Hi. Adding a "Perceptions of NASCAR" section was discussed in the talk page. It is highly approporiate to include that section in the article because Wiki wants opposing points of view in an article. Anyone you talk to wo doesn't like NASCAR will tell you its either because (1) only rednecks watch it (according to them) or (2) the sport is boring. I do agree in finding more demographics to either support these perceptions or disprove them. But, I think those general opposing POV statements should remain (and, no, I don't agree with them).69.134.50.153 22:22, 26 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for adding some counterpoints to the Perceptions section. I wonder if the argument that their are more tracks in PA and WI counter the perception that their are rednecks in NASCAR (what if the people going to thos tracks are rednecks, are all those tracks NASCAR sanctioned). I would still like to find more demographic information regarding the fan base that would show whether they are redneck or not (political orientation, living conditions, etc). Otherwise, good job. 69.134.50.153 16:35, 27 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

It took me a bit to find any information on the Kentucky International Convention Center and it's "arena". I see you are sometimes busy with arena articles as well. Good job on those that I've seen! Patken4 22:57, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Conference Tournement Locations

edit

Out of curiousity, how are you finding the men's basketball tournement locations? I've tried looking at conference websites, only to find most don't have anything, particularly the smaller ones. Is there a website that I haven't found yet? Thanks in advance. Patken4 21:57, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Clash of Champions Venues

edit

I found some information on most of the venues that didn't have articles. I can't find much on Center Stage Theatre in Atlanta other than a few concerts were held there in the 90's. Thanks for alerting me to the page, though! Patken4 22:17, 18 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

League of the South

edit

The league is obviously outside the mainstream. Most southerners do not espouse its views. Disagree? 155.84.57.253 21:36, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I disagree on the grounds that what you deem to be "mainstream" is your judgment. The group exists with close to ten thousand members in dozens of states nationwide...it should be called a "group" without your qualifiers. WillC 21:39, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Nambla also has at least a thousand members in states throughout the country. Would you classify them as outside the mainstream? What is your breaking off point? Clearly 10,000 out of millions is not a significant membership. Would you accept "small" as a description? 155.84.57.253 21:45, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
if morris dees is on the opposite end of the spectrum, why no qualifiers for the splc? WillC 22:16, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Everybody who has ever lived in the South, white, black or purple, knows what it means when you fly a confederate flag. There is no ambiguity there, no uncertainty. None. Mervyn Emrys (talk) 18:36, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thomas Jefferson

edit

Nope, you're right, I was confused. Goochland, at one time, encompassed what's now over half a dozen counties. Jefferson was born in Shadwell then. Shortly thereafter Albemarle was broken off which, in turn, was divided up not too long after that, including dividing off some of what is now Goochland. One begat the other begat the other; at the point when Jefferson was born, Goochland had not yet produced Albemarle. Had he been born somewhat later -- which is what I was thinking -- then he would have been born in Albemarle before it spawned a portion of Goochland.

How confusing. --WaldoJ 01:26, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Venues

edit

Is the Atlanta Memorial Auditorium the same as the Municipal Auditorium (Atlanta)? The dates for the venues opening and closing match those I found here. Also if you click list of other venues link on the top left of the page, just underneath the venue information, you might more info on other venues from the Southern Conference. As for the John Jay Center, I couldn't find much Google search Yahoo search. With the Charles L. Sewall Center opening in 1985, there may not be much out there on their old gym. NOVA Response

edit

I've double checked both the article's history and talk page history and I cannot seem to find the instance when you claimed I deleted your work. Can you please cite the time?

As for your comment, talk pages are not about voicing one's opinion if they are not constructive criticisms to better the article. I've noticed that you have added some information, but without any citations. Would you be able to find something that is acceptable to WP:CITE? The Northern Virginia article is fraught with issues, but with a good deal of elbow grease, we can work on improving it together. Cheers! Zidel333 (talk) 13:24, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dunning and his School

edit

I am having an interesting time at the Dunning School article. The level of scholarship is appalling, and I am going through it with a fine toothed comb. Please feel free to look at it and see if I'm out of line. I also see where the article on Dunning is largely stolen from a site that is black listed by Wikipedia for surprise : Plagiarism! You can find the page on Google by entering "Dunning lent academic respectability" I think the plagiarized material should go . If they want it, they need to cite it.Die4Dixie 22:57, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Just take a look at the talk page for slavery, and the talk page for Dunning School and see what you think. Same editor both places."Strong Tone of Academic Racism in this article makes me sick" is the section on the slavery page.
