A delicate situation

Following up on their visits to the Teahouse, I see that Greengauge121 has blanked their talk page. They are still actively editing, however, so it seemed like it would be a good idea for someone to point out to them how to archive talk pages (and why that's preferred to simply blanking them). I'm leery of doing it myself due to Greengauge121's history of taking helpful information as harassment, but I noticed that they seemed to be okay with what you had already put on their talk page, so I thought I'd see if you wanted to do it...? —GrammarFascist contribstalk 00:14, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

@GrammarFascist: Hi, I understand your concern but I would leave it be. Blanking your own talk page is an option that is within the guidelines of the WP. I have come across such editors before and once they have decided to not be part of the community, it is futile to try to convince them of taking actions that are customary here. They fail to grasp that everything is available through their page history which is also a kind of permanent archive (better in fact than an ordinary archive since it can not be edited). A totally blank talk page is also a kind of 'tell' about it's owner. Seeing such a page other editors will go to the page history to have a look. At least the page is there, for the community to post on. And if they remove posts, at least we will know that they have read it since blanking can not be done automatically. The only things they should not remove are block notices, but if they do it will usually lead to WP:ROPE. w.carter-Talk 05:04, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough, Cart. I'm the sort of person inclined to give someone multiple "second chances" but I will defer to your analysis of talk-page-blankers' typical behavior.
On an unrelated note, I looked at the guts of the userbox you made for me (and some other userboxes) and taught myself how to make them, so I won't need to pester you to make me any more. So do I, my friend, so do I. I'm all for second chances and in this case leaving them be IS giving them a second chance. A second chance to stay at the WP and be a productive part of it. I'll wager that if we were to try and convince them to behave in a manner that is more common here, they would just continue with their aggressive behavior and eventually do something that would get them blocked indefinitely.
Good job on the userboxes. :) They are not difficult to make once you have a not too complicated formula for them. On a related note, would you be comfortable removing the "new unreviewed article" template from Pasticciotto? I'm loath to remove it myself even though I'm confident the article would pass any reasonable editor's review. And on a further tangent, is there a number of DYK nominations made in a given span of time that would be unseemly?   You really are funny, you know that, right? You can never do too much work at the DYK or anywhere at the Wikipedia! This isn't fourth grade where you get pummeled or called "teacher's pet" for raising your hand or being good at doing things. The only risk you run here is to become a respected editor, and then you'll have other editors coming to your talk page asking for help. Keep up this pace and one day you will end up having the same status as this editor (check out their contribs + edit count). William Fetter - from German to English

Hello W.carter I just contacted Philg88 for my next translation of an article by me. I like to ask you for help to edit the english version again.

William Fetter in German is in the ANR and English on my user page. I am not finished with all the syntax corrections and some small translation in the references - I do it this week. The text is finished and can use some corrections. I will ask @Philg88: also for help.

@Maxim Pouska: hello again, I have taken a closer look at your article and there are some things I would like to explain to you. You have made a lot of links to pages with several (or many) things by that name, such as 2D, 3D and perspectives. Such pages are called "disambiguation pages" and links should preferably never end up at such pages. You have also made links to pages that are simply wrong. A very good rule is to click on the links you make and see where you actually end up! This way only you, and not the readers will be surprised at what is found at the end of the link. The English language is so rich and there are so many names and places that share the same combination of letters here on this international site, it is sometimes hard not to find words with several meanings. So checking the links is vital.
You should also remember to translate the Wikicode into English. Even though some of it, like "Zitat", works here, it is less confusing for other editors if everything is in English. Use "quote" etc. instead.
Finally you could check out Help:Cheatsheet to learn about what code to use for different things. Like the use of ( * ) to make lists instead of the character ( • ) that you use. Best, w.carter-Talk 08:35, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

@Maxim Pouska: After Philg88 has done a copy edit, there is usually very little left to do. :) I recommend that you study his corrections very thoroughly, that is how I learned to edit here. The best way is if you click on the "View history" at the top of the page and then at the little word "prev" by the edit post. On the page that pops up (what we here call a "diff") you can compare the before and after text very easy. I have looked at the German version of the text and made new translations of the sentences that Philg88 pointed out. Swedish is rather close to German so it is easier for me to understand what is meant. I also made some other alterations, you can read about them in the "edit summaries".

A new thing for you to learn about is the use of what is called "Templates". This is a word or words inside double curly brackets {{}} that is in fact a code that will produce something. This is the preferred way to write many things here since it keeps things consistent throughout the WP. One of these templates is the {{main}} that I used for "Computer graphics". For each template there is a help page that describes what the template does. You find that help page by putting the word "Template:" before what is inside the brackets, and write it in the search box in the top right corner of any page. In this case you will find the explanation at Template:main.

You should add a ref to the end of each section. That is the minimum. It does not matter if you repeat a source in many places as long as the information is in the source. Best, w.carter-Talk 09:53, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

@GrammarFascist: Yep! I always see my projects through however wonky they started. (My upbringing is in conflict with the sloth status) :) It's very kind of you to think I would have something relevant to add, but I'm too deep into this now to make remarks on the other logos. Oh, and I added the new entry only after having read the talk page and seen how desperate the editors who are in charge of the whole operation were getting. Talking about hire someone and all. I took one last shot to see if this compromise (clean font, festive red with a hint of sparkle, high visibility, well everything discussed on the project) could be something to their liking and by that saving the money. There is no exact number of edits specified for this, but as with all special privileges on the WP, I would guess that somewhere between 1000-6000 edits would be required. You can read more about it here: Wikipedia:Account creator. Here is also a tip for you: This site have thousands of pages explaining things. If you ever wonder something just try putting "WP:" or "Help:" in front of whatever you are searching for in the search box in the top right-hand corner. Hi Chris Oxford, nice to meet you again. Thank you so much for the barnstar! :) That was very kind of you and much appreciated. To comment on what you said at the Teahouse, yes, the very best way to get to know how things work on this site is to interact with other editors. As a "newbie" you are in fact encouraged to bug the more experienced editors and ask questions about everything. Most editors are happy to explain and help out.
Now, about the pictures: Since the sites interact with each other, it is redundant to have the files both here and at the Commons. Since the files have been tagged for moving, any editor with some free time can move them, but I think it might be a good exercise for you to do it yourself and thereby learn some more. ;) First you upload them at the Commons. Be sure to use the same file name, otherwise you will break the links to the articles where they are now displayed. If you for some reason should change the file's name, you have to update that in the article as well. When that is done, they can be deleted here at the Wikipedia. Now, that's not something that you yourself can do, it must be done by an admin. What you do is to tag it for deletion here on the Wikipedia. You do that by first clicking on the top "edit" tab on the file's page. Then you write the text {{Now Commons}} just below the text in the editing window that starts with "{{Copy to Commons|...". Click on preview and you will see that text automatically turns into a notice on the page. Hit "save" and you are done. In a couple of days the file will be removed.
I will be keeping an eye on your files and doings and if anything goes wrong, I'll be there and help you correct it. Or you can just call on me, here or using those 'ping' codes I left you a note about on your talk page. You are always welcome to ask anything on my talk page. @Chris Oxford: Hello again! I see that you have uploaded the Greece files at the Commons and tagged the copies at the WP appropriately. Well done! You should do the same with the pictures of the Wikimedals as well even if no one has come around to tagging them yet. You do it the same way and add the delete tag. Now that the files are in the Commons you need to get acquainted with the Category-system there. Tagging a pic with categories will help other editors find the and use the pic. The categories are at the very bottom of the page. Click on "edit" to see the code for them. The more detailed you can describe a pic, the better. If you look at the File:Pegasus Square in New Corinth.jpg in the Commons, you can see the categories I have added to that one. The categories should be as narrow as possible. As you can see; I did not simply put it in the "Greece" category or not even the "Populated places in Greece", I went all the way to the subcategory "Squares in Corinth", and so on. Click around and take a look, I think you will figure out how it works.

You should also keep an eye on the files at the Commons since once you have uploaded them there there will always be other editors or Bots coming to fix this and that, minor things you may have missed. I have given a custom WikiLove award a couple of times now that I call "Hilarious Username" and use an old cartoon of a laughing cat for. (You can see it here and here.) Is there a way I can make a template for this award, similar to making a userbox, so that I could place the template on other deserving users' talk pages instead of having to look up the image filename at Commons, etc., every time? If so, would there be a way to have the template automatically add the WikiLove tag to the edit summary the way using the Wikilove function does? Awards and such are really just templates, made in very much the same way as userboxes. All you have to do is to find a good one to start with. As you already have the code for this new award, all you have to do is to make a new page for it and copy the code to that page, just like you did with the userboxes. I made such a template last year and terrorized the neighborhood with it, see User:W.carter/lucia. When I want to post that on a page I just put that name inside curly brackets instead BUT not just that, you have to put "subst:" before it all too, like this {{subst:User:W.carter/lucia}}.
If you just put the name of a page inside the double curlies, that will only display what is in the original page, but with the "subst:" the entire code will be copied to the new page, become independent of the original page and stay on the recipient's page no matter what happens to the template. You can do some tests with the 'lucia' page/template in your sandbox and see the different results, that is probably the best way to understand it. Start with writing just {{User:W.carter/lucia}}, hit save and see what the code looks like in the editing window, and then write {{subst:User:W.carter/lucia}}, hit save and look again. Hope that makes sense to you.
Unfortunately I have never come across how to fix automatic edit summaries, so no quick answer there I'm afraid. When you have your page User:GrammarFascist/Hilarious Username up and running and in good working order, I suggest that you pay a visit to User:PrimeHunter and ask. He is friendly and helpful and there is absolutely nothing about codes that he doesn't know.
If you like you can also add the award to the collection at Wikipedia:Awards, guess that subsections Wikipedia:Other awards or Wikipedia:Personal user awards could be fitting. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 23:53, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

@GrammarFascist: Sorry about being "over-clear", it's something you contract after having editing too many articles. I know my user name is not funny, it's not like anyone would do "Cart-wheels" over it.(= worst pun of the decade) The template seems to be working just fine! Good job! :) I also tested it for inserting another template into it (a smiley) and that was no problem. It did not break the syntax or anything. The great thing with fooling around with things like this is that not only does it to contribute to the very important social glue that keeps this project together, but doing anything you always accidentally learn something useful. I did not write the basic code myself so I can't take credit for any fancy stuff in it. I was still a bit of a newbie when I made it, so I just nicked the basics from some other template (I think if was a Halloween one, it was that time of the year). You have done a much more thorough and better job. :) On a related topic, I can tell you that even if you are under some misconception that I'm reliable and trustworthy, I do screw up things a lot, IRL and here (although much more when I was newer here), but this have never held me back from trying out new things and learned when I have to fix them afterwards. Most of this is now archived away and life goes on, but I do have a nickname (CJ) here and IRL. You can read about some of it in this comment I made on another WP-controversy that was raging about a year ago. Hey, Cart (or would you prefer CJ...?), never apologize for making sure you've made yourself understood; better to be a bit repetitious than the cause a misunderstanding. (I've seen worse puns, so no punishment is in order th this time.) I appreciate your "kicking the tires" of the new award template for me — and hopefully you're familiar with that colloquialism? It refers to checking out the integrity of a used car someone is considering buying.
I don't think you're infallible, merely an editor more experienced than I am who is willing and able to answer most questions I would ask you. Don't worry, I'm not putting you on a pedestal. I know we all make mistakes; I certainly make my fair share, no matter how much I try to avoid it.
In my usual manner, I'm now going to ask about something completely different: I read the op-ed in the Signpost calling for people to run for the Arbitration Committee. @GrammarFascist: Phew, let's steer clear of pedestals! Too much praise gives me acrophobia. ;) And please stick with Cart, I get enough of CJ IRL. Here I mostly use it to describe my personality every time I for some reason have to 'come out' as having all xx chromosomes despite all the 'Sir', 'Dude' or 'Mr' I get. I'm very familiar with most English colloquialisms (the language of The Bard in all its forms is the love of my life, but that's a long story) and ordinarily I use them a lot myself, but not here since you never know what language level another editor might be on.
Arbitration Committee... hmmm... I read the article too. All levels of bureaucracy on the WP are time consuming, be sure you have enough to spare. Also I could never stand the endless debates a committee produces. You need to be able to keep a level head and have the patience of a saint. But I've seen you in action and you always measure thrice before cutting, and you're not afraid to say "Oh, sorry, I was wrong, thank you for clarifying", so you might pull it off. They could certainly use someone with your perspective and perception there. You would also need to grow some kind of rhinohide (you have to search for that one ^^, bad in the original context but good on the WP) or get a black belt in WP:DGAF before you apply. w.carter-Talk 19:39, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

174.76.140.170: They are in fact ordinary omega 3 capsules, similar to these ones that I bought at a local drugstore. They were yellow when I photographed them and afterwards I changed the color in Photoshop. But I have seen vitamin capsules in different colors like these in health food stores. I have also seen transparent ones, but I don't remember the name. Or you could use some food coloring for the omega 3.
