Resident Ministers of Nepal

edit

I have removed the "significance" column from your List of British Resident Ministers in Nepal article. Such significance appears to be your own opinion, and is entirely too subjective to be encyclopedic. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:30, 8 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you WikiDan61 for alarming me. The errors as such will be removed and considered thoroughly from next time.Uttam jklChatMe!

In the same manner, I have removed the "Evaluation" section from the article. Again, this section reflected your own personal opinion on the matter, rather than the cited opinions of published experts in the field. I am not implying that the statements are wrong, just that we cannot rely on your personal opinions on the matter, but must have cited sources, and opinions attributed to specific published individuals. On Chadra Shumsher

edit

Hi, your work on Chandra Shumsher article has definitely left it in a better place. I think the basic outline of the article is fine, but more content can be added. Here are few of my suggestions:

  • You have used Wikipedia's default citation style. I would recommend the Harvard style. I regret not having used it early for the Bhimsen Thapa article, since it makes life much easier as the article gets longer.
  • If you want to add more material, it is a good idea to buy some books on history. An article is only as good as its source material. Do not rely on school/college texts, since they can be very biased, and they mostly serve as propaganda. Very few books on Nepalese history have been written in English, and there is even less content available online. Most of the historical work exists in book form, written in Nepali. I usually buy my stuff from Ekta in Thapathali, Education Books in Jamal, or Ratna Pustak in Bagbazar. I have found "Nepal ko mahabharat" by Gyanmani Nepali and "Aba yesto kahile nahos" by Baburam Acharya to be excellent references for all the major massacres in Nepalese history. These books are still in print. There is a good bit on the assassination of Ranodip Singh and ousting of Dev Shumsher. The book by Prakash A. Raj titled "Bagki Kanchhi Maiyan - Dipkumari (Jibani)" also gives an account of that massacre. There are also plenty of books written about the Rana dynasty, in which you are sure to find material on Chandra Shumsher. However, I am not sure if there is an extensive scholarly biography written on Chandra Shumsher. I am aware of a slim volume written by Prakash A. Raj titled "Maharaj Chandra Shumsher ko jiwani", which was published in 2013, but I don't remember seeing it in the stores. If you can find this book, you can check its citation and find other relevant references. However, even if you can locate a title of a book by searching online book catalogs, there is no guarantee that they are still in print. But you might want to look around the book stores. These book cost somewhere around 100-200 rupees, so they are not that expensive (about the cost of 2 plates of momo is a so-so restaurant). If all else fails, you have to resort to the public library. Madan Pustakalaya in Patan Dokha is excellent.
  • Also make sure to check and compare the accounts of different historians. Usually, they tend to agree on most bits, but they can subtly disagree about many things.
  • You may need to translate much of the stuff, but make sure you don't make direct translations, lest you violate copyright laws. It is a good idea to take notes while you are reading your books, along with the page number where you found the stuff. Write in your own words. This way you will have time to process all the information that you have read, and spot inconsistencies among historians or understand a historic event much better. No matter how you look at it, you will emerge with better historical insight.

Good luck editing!!

Better source request for File:Kaiser-Library-banner-2-1280x550.jpg

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:14, 9 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:52, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Kaiser-Library-banner-2-1280x550.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Kaiser-Library-banner-2-1280x550.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Wikiacc () 03:09, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
