Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:UCLA Army ROTC

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:UCLA Army ROTC, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Request reason:

I understand the reasoning behind my block. Is there a way to allow myself to change my username? As you can see from my email, this is my personal account and wanted to upload information on the department of UCLA since I noticed there was none. I had no intention of continuously using this account to edit other Wikipedia pages. I am not promoting anything on the Wikipedia page other than putting history, notable, alumni, and other relevant information about the academic department within UCLA. UCLA has Wikipedia page, the Army has a Wikipedia page, and ROTC has a Wikipedia page. What is so different between those and this page? If there is anything that seems promotional specifically promotional please let me know and I will gladly take it out but this is by no means an attempt to get free promotion or anything of that nature rather than a platform to begin documenting the department's hundred year history. Decline reason:

Wikipedia has articles, not mere "pages". We can't see your email unless you share it(and I would advise against posting it in this public forum). Wikipedia is not free webspace for organizations to tell about their own history. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state about subjects like organizations, not what they want to say about themselves. If representatives of UCLA, the US Army, or the ROTC are editing those article in the same manner as you edited your draft, it would be addressed in the same manner. You have a conflict of interest and I suspect you are a paid editor. Please review those policies. In addition, you were promoting the ROTC, through describing the benefits of joining and other aspects. You won't be unblocked to further directly edit about your organization; if that is your only goal here, this is the end of the line for your Wikipedia career. If you want to edit about topics unrelated to the ROTC, please tell what those might be. Please follow the instructions in the block notice to make an unblock request that simultaneously proposes a new username. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 23:44, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
