- @Payamkermanshahi: It's a guideline for notability, not fame. The general notability guideline is that "a topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". The basic criteria of the notability guideline for sports say that athletes are presumed to be notable "if they have, for example, participated in a major international amateur or professional competition at the highest level (such as the Olympics)". Your draft does not seem to demonstrate notability either under the general notability guideline or by showing achievement at the highest level of the sport. Tol | talk | contribs 16:50, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Tol: Normally the wushu sport major is not at the Olympic, but World & Asian championships are highest level of competition for their athletes. according to published news of world wushu federation website and Asian wushu federation website, about Farshid Asadian's medals who has achieved, Meets the criteria of athletes' reputation. please study this resource http://www.iwuf.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/2nd-World-Junior-Wushu-Championships-2008_results.pdf, pages 30 & 31 and this resource https://www.jwtf.or.jp/event/pdf/ev0206-2009.pdf, page 2. and this resource https://www.jwtf.or.jp/new/pdf/new110915_02.pdf, page 1. @Payamkermanshahi: I'll review notability with that in mind soon; Doing by 29 Jun 2021 21:43:46 (3 years ago). Tol | talk | contribs 21:43, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Payamkermanshahi: I'm ambivalent about the draft. I don't think the subject is notable, but I don't have enough experience with Wushu to make a full analysis, and defer to anyone who has more knowledge on notability in this area (such as @Yinglong999, whose statement has influenced my opinion). While Asadian has competed in some notable events, I do not believe that he is currently notable because of them. They were junior championships, and he placed third; both of these factors were taken into account. I also believe he does not meet the general notability guideline; I cannot find significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Tol | talk | contribs 03:56, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Regarding the notability of wushu athletes
editHi Tol, I am Yinglong999, and I have extensively contributed to wushu since I truly became active here in late November. I am aware of your conversation with Payamkermanshahi and I just wanted to share my input.
Notability regarding wushu athletes is extremely complicated due to various regional and technical factors. Though it is best to judge an athlete through a case-by-case method, I generally follow this rule regarding notability according to achievement: 1. athlete is at least a one-time world champion and multiple time medalist in a main event at the World Wushu Championships (junior, taijiquan, and kungfu championships do not count) and 2. athlete is a multiple time medalist in at least one multi-sport event (Asian Games, East Asian Games, SEA Games, World Games etc.). For some athletes who meet this, you can refer to Gao Jiamin (past DYK), Edgar Xavier Marvelo, Lindswell Kwok, Geng Xiaoling, and others.
In my opinion, the athlete in question, Farshid Asadian, does not meet the notability guideline for wikipedia. His record only shows victories in the junior level, and no significant victories in the adult level and/or in multi-sport events. Interestingly when I searched his name online, two pictures appeared on his google panel/card thing that showed him smiling and posing with medals, one from the 2017 WWC in Kazan and the other from the 2019 WWC in Shanghai. Asadian was not a competitor or medalist in either competition and thus the pictures were for complete show. EDIT: I would like to clarify that simply being on a national team, being ranked #1 in a nation, participating in the WWC, or even just medaling once in the WWC would definitely not be enough support for notability.
I hope this clears things up. If you would like more information, feel free to let me know. Thank you for all your contributions to Wikipedia. Yinglong999 (talk) 07:56, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Yinglong999: Hello, Winning a medal in any age category is an honor and creates recognition for athletes. You have created the article of the 2014 World Youth Championship, but you say that the youth age category has no value or credibility !!! I do not know the reason for your opposition to Farshid Asadian's article on Wikipedia ?! However, he has won five bronze medals at the Asian Championships and the World Championships in 2008-2009 and 2011 and can have article in wikipedia.P@yam (talk) 22:08, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Payamkermanshahi: Hello Payamkermanshahi. Firstly I am not sure if more than one person can be conversing on someone else's talk page in a single section. If we need to we can transfer this over to yours or mine. Now, what I created was the 2014 Nanjing Youth Wushu Tournament, not the world junior championships for that year. The sport of wushu was featured as an invitational sport in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics, a notable multi-sport event. Just because this competition was important, this doesn't mean anyone who won or competed in it is notable and likewise, just because numerous notable high level athletes may compete in some random competition or be involved in some organization, it does not mean that the organization or competition would automatically be assumed to be notable. This holds true for the WJWC and the AJWC. I am sorry but I still think the article in question, Farshid Asadian, would not meet the notability guideline. Other Iranian athletes (such as Ehsan Peighambari and Farshad Arabi) may be of your interest to develop. Both athletes are multiple-time medalists at the WWC and have victories at multi-sport events (Peighambari: Asian Games, World Combat Games, Beijing 2008; Arabi: World Combat Games, World Games) I hope you will understand my viewpoint. Yinglong999 (talk) 22:37, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- In response to your claim, I must say that you first entered into a conversation between me and Tol, and if there is any criticism, it is you, not me! In addition, the World and Asian Youth Championships are in the calendar of the World Federation and can create a reputation for athletes. Your opinion is respectable but not decisive.P@yam (talk) 22:48, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Yinglong999: Thank you for your detailed explanation. It's fine to keep this on my talk page — personally, I believe that discussion forks make discussion harder to follow. @Payamkermanshahi: Anyone is welcome to drop by my talk page and comment on any section; I think it was entirely fine that Yinglong999 commented on our discussion. - @Tol: It's fine, i do not have any problem about @Yinglong999 statements, at the first @Yinglong999 said me about third person's talk, it's normal that i defence of a article that it's mine, but i do not have any connection with him(person of article), by regard wp:athlete i think he is notable. that's a why, i started this discution.P@yam (talk) 19:56, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Page mover granted
editHello, Tol. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Tagging pages for deletion
editHello, Tol,
Just a reminder that every time you tag a page for deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD/TFD/MFD/etc.), you need to post a notice on the talk page of the page creator so they are aware that a page they created might be deleted and the reason why. I noticed that you use Twinkle, so please set your Preferences to "Notify page creator" and the program will post these notices for you which makes things very easy. Thank you for your work! Liz Read! Talk! 18:38, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Liz: I already have this preference set (and I just checked to make sure). I think that there is just no user warning for CSD G8 (dependent on nonexistent page), see Template:Speedy deletion navbox (under "Templates". I'll try to manually leave talk page messages for those. Do you think it would help to create a user warning template? Thank you! Tol | talk | contribs 18:46, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Liz: I have created Template:Db-talk-notice. Does it look appropriate? Tol | talk | contribs 23:26, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Question from Varal2 on User talk:Varal2 (05:38, 1 July 2021)
editHello.... Any pointers in terms of editing? --Varal2 (talk) 05:38, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Varal2: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Could you please be more specific? There are so many pointers that could be applicable — I'll give a few to start, and Help:Editing has more: You may also want to take a look at our five pillars, which summarise the fundamental guidelines of Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions! Tol | talk | contribs 17:31, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has three core content policies: articles should be neutral, verifiable, and without original research.
- Be bold, but not reckless. Don't be upset if your edits are reverted — discuss them with the reverting editor, and you will probably be able to reach a consensus on what to do.
- If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it.
- Edit pages which you want to edit — you're free to work on any section of the encyclopedia.
- Try to always leave an edit summary, even for small edits.
- The English Wikipedia is written in different national varieties of English, which often differ in spelling. Don't change one variety to another (as you did here) without consensus.
TolBot Task 1A: Columns & Links
editHi, Hope your good. I was wondering if you could change the bot that updates Template:COVID-19 vaccination data in Africa to reflect the “total dose” count instead of just “Number of unique individuals who have received at least one dose” or to have 4 columns. One for total doses, one for at people with 1 dose, one for fully vaccinated people and finally the percentage of population vaccinated. Thanks TapticInfo (talk) 20:41, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- @TapticInfo: I could certainly do that. I'd prefer consensus at Template talk:COVID-19 vaccination data in Africa first, though (or at least nobody opposing this). Tol | talk | contribs 00:02, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Tol: Sure, I have done so. TapticInfo (talk) 08:12, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- @ Tol: For task 1A on Template:COVID-19 vaccination data in Africa, I changed the link of each page from the “pandemic” to the “vaccination” page but the bot replaced the edit. Please if possible change the bot from doing so TapticInfo (talk) 20:50, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- @TapticInfo: The bot doesn't exactly "undo" your edit, it just generates the wikitext from scratch each time. Changing the wikitext once won't prevent it from getting overwritten each time. I can, however, change the wikitext generation to link to "vaccination" pages. It doesn't look like there's any opposition at Template talk:COVID-19 vaccination data in Africa, so I'll roll out a change within the next few days. As for adding columns, this would require a complete overhaul of both the data extraction and wikitext generation, but I should be able to do that within a week. Tol | talk | contribs 21:15, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Tol I think just leave the columns, just change the page links for now TapticInfo (talk) 12:51, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Question from Alliehg on User:135.180.32.255/sandbox/The Real Minx (band) (05:20, 5 July 2021)
editHi. If I create a sandbox post and hit publish, does the post get posted in Wikipedia? Do I need to take further action? Thank you! --Alliehg (talk) 05:20, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
Also - I might have a conflict of interest because I played drums in the band. Do I need to request that someone else create a page? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alliehg (talk • contribs) 05:29, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Alliehg: I've moved the page to Draft:The Real Minx, because it appears to have been created in an IP address's userspace (which was probably your IP address while logged out); I have also done some basic cleanup. I have also added a template for the Articles for Creation (AfC) process, to which you can submit the draft. When you are ready, click the blue "Submit the draft for review!" button and then click the blue "Publish" button. The article will be reviewed, and will either be published or declined. If it is declined, you can work on it more and submit it again later. However, I do not think that the article currently establishes notability, which is a test for whether an article should be included. A cursory Google web search on the topic also does not show me evidence of notability. As for your conflict of interest, you must disclose it per instructions here. Please read the conflict of interest guideline for more information. Tol | talk | contribs 05:42, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help! The band was active before google and was reviewed in print media. Do those sources count if uploaded? Alliehg (talk) 05:54, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Alliehg: No problem; I'm glad to help! Our general notability guideline states that "a topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". All reliable sources, online or offline, count. It looks like you use the VisualEditor — just click on the "Cite" button at the top and use the "Manual" tab if it's an offline resource. You do not have to upload them anywhere; Wikipedia operates on the assumption of good faith, so people won't demand to see the source of references (but if the source does not exist or does not verify the statement, someone will eventually find out). I have also removed some external links — our external links guideline states not to use external links in the body of articles; however, if they meet the guideline, you can include them in an "External links" section. TolBot Task 1: "pandemic in" to "vaccination in" link change
edit
Hi Tol, I noticed TolBot changed link articles from "Covid-19 vaccination in" to "Covid-19 pandemic in". The link articles should be vaccination articles. "Template:COVID-19 vaccination data in Africa" links to vaccination articles. Could you update the bot not to change the link article field?―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 02:06, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Phoenix7777: I implemented the change to Template:COVID-19 vaccination data in Africa after a request and no opposition on the talk page. The bot does not change the link (or revert your edit), it rather generates new wikitext each time it is run (with the "pandemic" links, as it is programmed to do). Please demonstrate consensus (or no opposition) on Template talk:COVID-19 vaccination data, then let me know here, and I'll make the change. Minor edits
editThe following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Thank you for informing me of this, Tol. I thought that by 'minor' it meant small edits. Like changing spelling, adding a word or two, or fixing a sentence. You are most helpful, good sir/madam. Or should I say, "good human"? I think I should. Because I just did :0 :). Once again, many thanks. What is the page in question?
Yours most thankfully,
A Minor Editor
PS: I've just had a thought... I'm not so much a 'minor' editor now, am I? More like a mixed editor... Do excuse my habit of writing down my alleged train of thought, good human. I say 'alleged', because I toy with humour on a daily basis. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out what that has to do with my previous sentences. Far from it, in fact. Enough! I must stop talking, otherwise I shall be the death of you.

- @ItsJustdancefan: It has some grammar issues (some erroneous capitalisation,

sounds promotional to me). Additionally, I don't know if it demonstrates notability well enough — all of the references are from its launch. There should ideally be more on the service itself. Tol | talk | contribs 17:39, 19 July 2021 (UTC)- I added to the draft "The service primarily shows content from Televisa and other third-party content providers, including television series, movies, and sports programming". ItsJustdancefan (talk) 18:09, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- @ItsJustdancefan: I think it's better now. I would still advise you to have more references from after the launch. Tol | talk | contribs 00:30, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

I wanna know if theres any problem with this draft? Draft:Univision (Latin America) ItsJustdancefan (talk) 20:54, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- It looks fine — I can't read the Spanish sources, though. Again, I think some small wording changes would be preferred (I'll do that later). I'm also not sure how reliable the references are — television really isn't my specialty. Again, I'll go and clean it up later. Tol | talk | contribs 23:31, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
India's Asli Champion
editYou just left me a notice about "my" recent AFC submission: Draft:India's Asli Champion - Hai dum. It's not my submission. If you look at the edit history, you will see that an anonymous IP editor wrote the entire draft inside a comment. I just took it out of the comment to make its text visible. JIP | Talk 01:15, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: Ah, sorry! Because you were the user who added the AfC submission tag, you were the person it recorded as the submitter. Tol | talk | contribs 01:17, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Why did you decline my submission? There are less qualified people on wikipedia than the profile i tried to upload, Kindly explain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnkokofi (talk • contribs) 04:29, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Johnkokofi: It does not matter how qualified he is, it matters how notable he is. There were no inline citations, which made verifiability difficult, and none of the references appeared to establish notability (see the notability guideline for people). Question from Chemkatz on User:Chemkatz (20:05, 28 July 2021)
editHi Tol! I'm still learning and I'm not sure how to proceed. I found an article I want to edit (so I can understand and guide my students in this process). In the article, there's a statement which provides a link to a graph (that "does not exist anymore") from an an article that one can only read in its entirety with a subscription. As a result, the statement is not verifiable (not by me, at least). How would you edit that? My instinct is to remove the broken link to the graph and add the words "[graph/data required]" after the citation, but leave the citation there. Please advise. Thanks for your assistance! Chemkatz (talk) 20:05, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Chemkatz: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Could you please give me a link to the article in question? You can link to an article by putting double brackets around its title; for example:
[[Example]]
is turned into Example. Tol | talk | contribs 20:08, 28 July 2021 (UTC)- I tried to answer you in another location but I don't think it worked. I'm struggling with this, but I'll get it eventually. The article is water footprint#water availability. Thanks. --Chemkatz (talk) 20:16, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Chemkatz: It's fine; you can just reply on this page by clicking the "edit" button. As for the article, external links (links to pages outside Wikipedia) should rarely be in the body (the main text) of an article; I would remove "(see graph)" entirely. Also, you marked your edits as minor; however, "a check to the minor edit box signifies that only superficial differences exist" — such as "spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text"; you can read more at Help:Minor edit. Tol | talk | contribs 20:26, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Tol, I tried to reply (edit) as you suggested, but my questions don't seem to reach you any other way than from my "Ask your mentor" box. This is the third time I'm writing this. I've tried the "edit source" at the top of your Talk page and "edit" directly above our conversation (where the heading Question from Chemkatz shows up). Both times I've included the ::: colons that I thought I was supposed to and ended with Chemkatz (talk) 21:02, 28 July 2021 (UTC). I apologize for being confused. So, my first question is, what am I doing wrong in my attempt to reply to you on your Talk page? The reason I was originally writing was to thank you for your guidance and to ask you if there is a way to go in and remove the minor edit check box in the edits that I incorrectly marked as minor? I appreciate your time. Thanks!
- @Chemkatz: You're welcome! I can't see what you're doing wrong — both of those buttons are the right ones! Were you clicking on "Publish changes" after you typed your response? If you were, try looking in Help:Talk pages. As for minor edits, there's no way to change an edit after it's published. Don't worry about your edits, though — they were fine. Wikipedia has a lot of policies that take time to get used to, including those on minor edits. Tol | talk | contribs 23:31, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

- FYI it's the last sentence of Water Availability in the article Water Footprint. I already removed the broken link. you can check my edit. I'm pretty confident on that one. Thanks! --Chemkatz (talk) 20:18, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Tol, I decided to find an additional citation (#21), which had a graph. I could replace citation 20, since the graph in citation 21 brings the point home, but I don't think it's so important it needs a picture. I'm interested to know what you think. Thanks! Chemkatz (talk) 20:25, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi, May I ask the reason for the decline of my submission Draft:A-SOUL? Since I translated the contents from Chinese version, which has already been approved and published, I don't know why the article should be declined. Please inform me if further modification is suitable for this article. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shdejavu (talk • contribs) 03:03, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- The decline reason can be found at the top of the draft in the large red box. The draft did not demonstrate notability enough for me to accept it. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 23:10, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
I'm not understanding what exactly what has to be added or removed from the article to have it approved. All references are relevant and accurate to the article. --BokeATong (talk) 15:00, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
- @BokeATong: Read the grey boxes in the red tags at the top of the page. You need more inline citations from reliable sources. I would say you would need to: I believe that Lunde is notable; but Wikipedia has stricter policies for biographies of living persons, which means that inline citations are even more essential. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 15:20, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
- Add a reference for "rumors of Lunde being involved with AEW";
- Replace or remove all references to Patreon or other self-published sources.
- Just so I understand this correctly, I can't use references to the original source material but I can use news articles that source the original source material? It's like saying "I don't believe the person who said it, but I believe the person who heard the person say it"? If that's the way it is, that's the way it is. I'll find the proper references. But, isn't that a bit silly? --BokeATong (talk) 15:27, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
- @BokeATong: Source material is a primary source. Reliable secondary sources that reference and verify that primary source are preferred, because people can say anything that they want to — reliable secondary sources are needed to verify primary sources. Hello, Tol! I have noticed that you have made so many edits to my draft article. I must say I have learned a lot from you on the process of my first Wikipedia page goes from draft to formal. Thank you so much for your help and contributions to Wikipedia! Jm120791 (talk) 15:41, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Jm120791: No problem; you're welcome! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Tol (talk | contribs) @ 15:59, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
Hi! The page included references to the Guardian, as well as the label + it included the link to the German wikipedia page. Just out of curiousity, what more should be added do you think? I saw these as quite significant — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarcasticallyincharge (talk • contribs) 19:41, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Sarcasticallyincharge: The single Guardian reference definitely counts to establish notability; none of the external links (YouTube, German Wikipedia) do. (I've removed the link to German Wikipedia — interlanguage links are handled differently.) If the band meets any of the criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Criteria for musicians and ensembles, add that to the draft — otherwise, focus on adding more references to reliable sources.
