Regarding Urban Soul article

Hey, don't sweat the google thing. In general, Google News is a much better source of potential good stuff than regular google. What I always do is put the term in quotes, and use Google News (or sometimes Google Scholar depending on the topic) and then always select the "all dates" option on the left. It generally does a MUCH better job of finding the good stuff than a straight google search because Google News ignores all the myspace/facebook crap. --Jayron32 02:55, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Re Ideawicket

Hello Tim

Thank you for your comments. Ideawicket is significant as it is the first 'open innovation' intermediary based in India. It is unique among Open Innovation intermediaries in that it offers a platform for innovators to showcase their own innovations to corporations in addition to corporations posting their R&D requirements as Challenges.

St. Ann's Society

I do not agree that this article should be deleted. St. Ann's Society is not a commercial group, it is very popular religious society in Polish parishes. Of course I don't have enough information, but I will get it.

I don't see any difference between "Klub Inteligencji Katolickiej", or others with very little text in the article. There are hundreds of articles with very little text inside.
Reason I wrote this article so fast, because people confuse it with "Society of Saint Anne" which also doesn't have enough information. So, please remove the speedy deletion tag--WlaKom (talk) 16:19, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Ryan Kent Smith

Thanks, Tim. I'm a new editor here, and it seems you've done quite a few of them. How long are we allowed, when forming a new page, to reference sources, etc.? Do you have some practical advice about how to improve this first page, please? I have a list of several others to create this month. I appreciate any ideas or advice, as apparently you've got the experience to suggest a few improvements. Cheers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lingdao (talkcontribs) 18:39, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Here is what I referenced in Lingdao Talk Page: "Researching references and other details; editing verbiage; highlighting newsworthiness of bio, not including various references to a 10-page C.V. Smith is a better-known public speaker in China, mixing in Chinese phrases with English, speaking for colleges and universities, also by invitation to groups in the USA. Please allow time to develop and edit this into a more formal page. Thank you."

As it's being improved, I understand that you can userfy the page, which keeps the history, time/date details intact, but allows editors time to work on this further. If that is the case, please userfy "Ryan Kent Smith" page. Also, is e-mail contact more efficient for you? Let me know. 谢谢。

hi

About the murder of Dr. Stidham, it has much work to do. But I think it is more than "not news" and it is notable. Very much coverage and even international coverage. There was even extensive coverage on Friday in the UK for about an hour. Very different kind of murder because it's a doctor killing another doctor in order to get more patients. And 2 county attorneys knew of a plot to kill the doctor but said nothing so the widow got over $2M. So there are several reasons to keep. But I will improve the article so it is a better article and a clearer "save" article. Thank you for giving me the chance to save the article. I will start tomorrow. Giovan Giacomo Dalla Corna - Speedy template

Hello Tim. I've declined the speedy template, as I consider the subject notable for Wikipedia. Dalla Corna is listed among significant luthiers of the 16th - 19th century, the article is well referenced and Google search may be also helpful. Thank you. --Vejvančický (talk) 08:34, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

(edit conflict) I understand your suspicions, but it's easy to verify, that Dalla Corna was a real person and one of the first Brescia violin makers - [1], [2]. The informations from Italian specialized books are very valuable for us, since the online sources barely mention his name. User:Gasparo is new here, and he apparently doesn't know, how Wikipedia works. He even himself tagged his own article (a similar subject) for speedy deletion. Again, I've found the evidence, that subject is notable and the article should stay here. Take Dalla Corna to AfD, if your disagree. Thanks for your answer. --Vejvančický (talk) 08:54, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about the double vote

I saw the relisting on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rupert Myers (writer) and for some reason thought it was a reopening. I fixed {{Relist}} to link to the guideline on relisting which may help others see what it means.

I'm not sure if my changing the Delete into a Comment is the right way to do it but a struck delete made it look like I'd change my mind. --Marc Kupper|talk 22:24, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I CSD'd the KVG article, just wondering why you placed a CSD notice on the user's talk page but didnt actually CSD the article? --ScythreTalkContribs 11:05, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, if you look at the timestamp of the notice & the deletion log [3], I did CSD the article - and it was deleted. This one was recreated later. Tim Song (talk) 13:16, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/His Highness Chu (2nd nomination)

Tim at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/His Highness Chu (2nd nomination) you mentioned a possible redirect to The Five Highnesses is this different then The Five (gods)? Jeepday (talk) 22:58, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

They are indeed quite different. I think the number is just a coincidence. The article as it stands now is a WP:COATRACK, and a move is warranted. Tim Song (talk) 23:18, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
I searched for 五府千歲 in Google books, and get several hits.
Can you use these to build a reference or two? Jeepday (talk) 23:32, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually, no, because none of these actually dealt with the five we were talking about. In most if not all of them, "千歲" is just used to mean something like "Your Highness", etc. Tim Song (talk) 00:04, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
It does not look like there is anyway to save the article with the tools available. Jeepday (talk) 00:10, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Nope, but I didn't have time to check the sources last night (I'm in UTC+8), so I thought that the 200+ Gnews hits are likely to produce some RS that would pass N. After reviewing the sources today, I think I'll have to change my assessment. Tim Song (talk) 03:03, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. –Juliancolton | Talk 04:03, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

White Tiger

I don't know how to leave a message after editing the article. The changes which Bioextra is making never make any sense. Bioextra is confusing a heterozygous tiger with a golden tabby tiger. It makes no sense to add a section titled Heterozygous Tiger for a variety of reasons. There's no point in adding general information on tigers which is available elsewhere on Wikipedia, especially after complaining that the article is too long. Why do that and then add useless information which is off topic? Why change the titles of other sections for no apparent reason? I am trying to repair the damage, but I get accused of vandalism ! 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:15, 22 August 2009 (UTC)PS Will you please restore my edits. North- and Southwest Ontario

It's a common mistake. "Westsouthern" and "Westnorthern" are awkward. vıdıoman 03:44, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, I see. I'm not familiar with the area, Huggle doesn't show the whole page (only the diff), it's an IP, and there's no edit summary, so I reverted. Oops. I still can't find a source for the "triple" population claim so I'll leave that revert undisturbed for now. Feel free to change it back if you can find a source for it. Tim Song (talk) 03:57, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
There won't be a source. Exaggerating local population increase due to tourism and cottagers is a common thing in this province. Unincorporated Kenora District has only about 5,000 homes that are occupied seasonally. The city itself has about 600 out of almost 7,000 dwellings. Assuming that all 5,000 homes are concentrated in a small part of the district's landmass, at best the population would double. Unless they're really crowded vacation homes. I wouldn't be surprised if it was even the tourism association for the region adding that in to promote it. I've noticed a lot of the positive exaggerations on small town articles come from tourism associations. They're occasionally bold enough to even use the name of the association as a user name to do it! vıdıoman 05:14, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism warning

Please let me know which of the "type of vandalism" my edits on The Onion violated. Cheers! Aaadddaaammm (talk) 19:13, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Don't wikilawyer here. You know full well what you have done. Vandalizing one page, and then bragging about it on another page is vandalizing both pages. Plain and simple. That your second edit was technically true is irrelevant. Tim Song (talk) 19:22, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Yea yea, my 2 gripes are: Firstly, the template you used claimed that I'd added incorrect information (unless you've changed the template again...). Templates are fine, but use the right one! Second, I'd already been warned by Occono, I don't consider it necessary for you to join in too. Aaadddaaammm (talk) 19:29, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
OK 3rd times the charm, eh? If I wanted to be a dick I'd comment that I did "cite references or sources", but I get the feeling that would not go down well. But seriously, thank you for your work on WP - it's people like you that make sure when I need to finish a homework assignment at the last minute, I can always rely on WP! Aaadddaaammm (talk) 19:40, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Okay, I initially used the 4im template you saw because I saw that you've been here for a long time, so it's fairly unlikely that you don't know the rules. A more experienced editor, however, suggested (in response to occono's question at the help desk) that a level 1 template be used. So I decided to replace my warning with a level 2. It seems that I indeed rushed somewhat to judgment, for which I apologize. In response to your request, I've changed the article the message is referring to. Finally, I added the templated warning because it is bot-readable. It helps the antivandal bots & tools keep track of the warning status of a user, making automated reporting of persistent vandals much easier. It may look like overkill here, but it saves a lot of time with other vandals. Tim Song (talk) 19:45, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: Chetnik-based information

Hi Tim,

I'm just writing in response to the edit warning regarding changes to a couple of articles. I want to explain the reasoning behind these changes I made;

1. Much of your information is incorrect; ie. that Chetniks were Axis-collaborators during World War 2. The Chetniks were actually responsible for the largest rescue ever of Allied airmen AND Chetnik leader Draza Mihailovich was awarded the Legion of Merit by the United States president Harry S. Truman for services to the Allied war effort during World War 2. As such, Momcilo Djujic was also an Allied fighter, NOT an Axis supporter, hence the reason the U.S government allowed for him and many other Chetniks flee to America from Tito's corrupt Communist regime.

2. Regarding the information on Ivo Andric, he was in fact Serbian. You have an image on the page whose caption purports that "During his studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, Ivo Andrić declared himself as Croatian." The image DOES NOT in fact say that anywhere and you will find Ivo Andric actually referred to himself as Serbian.

I look forward to hearing your response. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stefanarsenijevic (talkcontribs) 07:50, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

I'll assume that you are 124.150.114.251 (talk · contribs), given that I've only reverted edits by this IP on the articles you mentioned.
  1. Regarding Battle of the Neretva, I reverted your edits because a highly experienced WP editor, User:DIREKTOR, undid your edits only a moment ago with the rather damning "LoL" comment. While I accept that you were editing in good faith, at the time of the revert it looked like sneaky vandalism to me. It was also contrary to our own article on the Chetniks, which states that they functioned as an Axis-supported militia at the end of the war. Hence the revert.
  2. As to Momčilo Đujić, your edits removed massive amounts of sourced content and replaced it with unsourced one-sided (i.e., PoV) statements (e.g., "corrupt Tito government"). That, coupled with the lack of an explanation whatsoever, caused a revert.
  3. Finally, as to Ivo Andric. I know nothing about him. All I saw was an IP coming in, changing every reference from Croat- to Serb- without explanation. That's much more often vandalism than constructive edit.
I think I've explained all my reverts. Now, if you think that the content of any of the articles was wrong, you can initiate a discussion on the talk page for the article. Then editors with knowledge in the subject can discuss your arguments and reach a consensus (I have absolutely zero knowledge on this subject). Remember, Wikipedia is not concerned with The TruthTM, only verifiability, and that means reliable sources. As long as you have them, we can at least add your side to the article. But as long as the other side has them, too, then the other side will also, perhaps unfortunately for your views, have a part of the article devoted to it. Feel free to leave a message here if you have any additional questions. Tim Song (talk) 09:08, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Julia Zass

I saw you removed the CSD from the article. I understand why you did it, but disagree that it was necessary to remove the CSD and change it to a AfD. There are many reasons one might apply a PROD instead of a CSD. The assumption that the article might not meet CSD criteria is only one. My best to you... ttonyb1 (talk) 15:16, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

My rationale: (1) when a CSD tag is declined, either by an admin, or by an uninvolved editor, it is generally inappropriate to reapply the tag (with certain exceptions not applicable here); and (2) when an admin applies a prod rather than deletes the article on sight, that's an implicit determination that speedy deletion, for whatever reason, is not appropriate. You may disagree on (2), but I feel that, in such circumstances, taking it to AfD is the more prudent course. Tim Song (talk) 15:23, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
