Hello, I'm 331dot. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Justdial have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective.   Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "TheLister", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because It is the name of a company or product. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Normall i woulds simply block a user name such as yours. But since you ahve complied with the WP:PAID rule, thus showing good faith, i am giving you this chance to change your user name to one that complies with our policy. But if you do not make such a change shortly, i will have no option but to block you from editing. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 02:24, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Request reason:

I had explicitly mentioned in my userpage that I am a paid contributor and also declared publicly on my COI. I had also requested a username change but since it is under processing, the same has not been reflected. One moderator by the name DESiegel understood this and gave me the time to get the username reflected. But since it has not been processed yet, my account got blocked by another moderator. I request you to check my userpage where I have honestly mentioned my contribution and also that my username has been given for a rename. Request you to kindly look into it and uplift the ban associated with my profile as I have taken the necessary precautions to remain honest about my contributions to the wikipedia community.

Accept reason:

The block was lifted DESiegel. Kindly see below for further details. —usernamekiran(talk) 23:09, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

unblock and rename discussion

edit
  • I do not see where you made that rename request. If you tell me what new user name you would like, I can rename you if you ping me by placing {{ping|Deepfriedokra}} in your request and sign with 4 ~'s.
  • A WP:COI or WP:PAID declaration does not allow you to add promotional content. Please affirm you will not do so anymore.
  • I for one would not unblock you if you wish to edit about or link to The Lister. You must agree not to do that.
  • You've already demonstrated an interest in editing other things, please be aware of The Golden Rule-- "All content must be cited from reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and have a reputation for fact checking." .-- Deepfriedokra 08:06, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Deepfriedokra: I have requested to change my username from TheLister to ShrutiMohanty and have checked it to be available. I have done it by visiting the GlobalRenameRequest section. {unblock-spamun|ShrutiMohanty|As it conflicts with a business name}} Plus, I confirm I have not and will not produce any content which is promotional. I have drafted one article on TheLister since I am a paid contributor (as mentioned on userpage) and have cited legit references while keeping the article completely non-commercial and non-promotional. Kindly request you to have a look and uplift the ban so I can provide good content. TheLister (talk) 08:21, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Draft:TheLister was deleted under WP:CSD#G11 by Jimfbleak. You might not recognize promotional content. Sometimes editors don't. Will leave the unblock request for review by another admin.-- Deepfriedokra 08:29, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

globally renamed TheLister to ShrutiMohanty

globally renamed TheLister to ShrutiMohanty-- Deepfriedokra 08:25, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Deepfriedokra: Can you advise me on one thing. When there's a provision given by Wikipedia to write about something by clearly stating your COI, paid contributor tag, then why is it not being allowed? I am doing everything to keep it transparent, legit and factful for the community but then still I am going through all these blocks and unable to contribute anything.

Declaring a COI does not give you license to directly edit about it; you must make edit requests on the article talk page. Now that you are blocked, you will need to show that you are interested in being a general contributor and are not just here to promote TheLister. If TheLister is all you want to edit about, you won't be unblocked and should consider alternative forums. 331dot (talk) 08:50, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@331dot: @Deepfriedokra:Okay, I will be a general content provider and not solely for the purpose of editing about the company. I will ask for edit requests if so required. Thank you for letting me know. Hope my confirmation helps in lifting the ban up.

Pings do not work unless you sign your post with ~~~~(which you should do on all talk page posts). What subjects unrelated to your COI will you edit about? 331dot (talk) 11:36, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@331dot:I already see articles related to my university which lack information and need proper citations. Apart from existing articles, maybe I will try my luck again in some new topics (not related to brand/business/company)! My intention was never to promote or advertise somehting admin, I was not so clear about the policies. Now that I understand, I get what needs to be done and how to do it.ShrutiMohanty (talk) 14:20, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@331dot, Deepfriedokra, and Jimfbleak: I had encountered this user, then named "TheLister" at WP:UAA. In light of the PAID declaration, I placed a "being discussed" icon there, which should have caused any admins to refrain from blocking on the username issue alone, and sent a message to the user requesting a prompt change of username or I would block (see above). The user sent me a message that a rename had been requested and asking for time for it to be implemented. hen i went to respond I found the above. It seems to me that this user has complied with all requested steps, and that an unblock is now appropriate. With other admins involved, I will not do that unilaterally without discussion. I'd rather hold the discussion here, but WP:AN is also possible. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 16:36, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@DESiegel:. No objection to unblock. I merely performed the rename. As this is a SPAMU block and the edits were promotional, the stated (standard) terms, which the user agrees to, seem reasonable. As I said before, promotional editing is a concern, but it seems to be dealt with by the user. I don't think it was reasonable to make promises to not block a user without considering the promotional nature of their edits, but it wasn't my block, so that's fine too. -- Deepfriedokra 17:09, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oh, to clarify, I came in response to the request for unblock, so never saw the "being discussed" annotation. Having reread the aplomb and dignity with which ShrutiMohanty has dealt with this, I really endorse the unblock and thank ShrutiMohanty for their patience.-- Deepfriedokra 17:13, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@331dot, Deepfriedokra, Jimfbleak, and DESiegel:I thank you all for having trust on me. And I specially thank DESiegel for his inputs. I now hope the block is lifted soon so that I am able to fairly contribute to the Wikipedia community.ShrutiMohanty (talk) 11:15, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
