Ben Tennyson main page intro
editHi there. I have noticed your edits on the Ben Tennyson page. In case you wondered why I have been reverting your edits, it is because of two main reasons:
1. Introduction section should always be brief and simple: You have been adding information relevant only to the plot in the introduction section. If you'd like to elaborate more on that, feel free to add more in the sections about the shows.
2. Grammatical errors: I have noticed a few grammatical errors, please take note of those. BlazerStar10 (talk) 17:21, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Your reedits prove too brief and don't provide enough content. Not to mention your reedits are in dire need of attention considering the box on top of it which showcases multiple issues. I'll be undoing the edit you've done. TheFloridaTyper (talk) 01:39, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
They are not meant to provide information or be heavy on content. The box on top of it refers to the article as a whole, not just the introduction section. The box on top of it also refers to the fact that the article is lacking in citations. The introduction does not need to be heavy on content, and that is supposed to be limited to the sections with the series. When I made my edits, I purposely did not remove the box because I am aware of the information lacking that is necessary. However, that particular information SHOULD NOT be in the introduction. I will still point out the fact that your edits also contain grammatical errors. However, I will not re-edit the article until I get a response from you. - I saw your reedits and they work. I'm sure you saw the big chunk of information I added to the OS and UAF plot sections to make the page more complete. TheFloridaTyper (talk) 13:43, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, but you still need to realize that each series in the introduction section needs to be split into its own paragraph, regardless of the content information. BlazerStar10 (talk) 07:04, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
I just looked at the re-edits you made in each of the plot section. While I appreciate your efforts I need to bring you up to speed regarding certain guidelines for Wikipedia when making these kinds of edits and in the future refer to the manual of style before making these edits: https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Vocabulary
However, I will make a few points from that list to tell you the main guidelines:
1. Please DO NOT use contractions, I have noticed you use "don't" or "can't"; always use their full forms such as "do not" and "can not".
2. DO NOT use speculative language, I saw an example of this where you are writing about Ben removing the Omnitrix due to the loss of Feedback. There is no cited confirmation regarding this fact, as both Derrick J. Wyatt and Matt Wayne have different opinions regarding this.
3.If you cannot cite it, DO NOT type it: This is just a general statement regarding that do not use speculative language. Only write what happened in the show as it appeared, not your own interpretation (even if what you state may be true). And if it is true then find the cited reference.
I will continue to make any changes in the edits that are necessary. BlazerStar10 (talk) 07:27, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- 1. Ok.
- 2. It's not speculative. It's simply mentioning what may have impacted Ben to remove it. Never once did it say those were the reasons Ben removed it.
- 3. I see you removed the part about Ultimate Ben unlocking much of the newer aliens in Omniverse. The wiki itself states that those new aliens who appeared in Season 1 weren't locked, just unused. This is further confirmed with Albedo turning into Gravattack in Omniverse. The only way he could gain that is through Gravattack being available as his Ultimatrix in Omniverse doesn't function like the Omnitrix and only stabilizes Albedo's transformations.
- I'll also continue making any changes in the edits that are necessary. You're welcome XD TheFloridaTyper (talk) 13:02, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- 2. Yes, I understand what you mean. However, a Wikipedia article is more formal and more strict on these kinds of statements, unlike the Fandom wikis that we are used to (I am also active there from time to time). We do not mention things in Wikipedia that "may have" happened, even if specified in the wiki. In other words, that kind of language is not allowed.
- 3. If I am being very honest with you, we the fans are the ones that made the connections of what aliens were unlocked when Ultimate Ben unlocked them. And again, regarding the wiki, I also recently found out that anything from the Ben 10 wiki is not considered to be reliable enough for Wikipedia (based on my own edits I did on a different Ben 10-related page, before they were reverted by the moderators). Even though I believe things such as Gravattack being unlocked before Omniverse, there is no written evidence to support that (from crew, show's description, etc). That is why I referred to this as "speculative language". BlazerStar10 (talk) 00:07, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- 2. Well that's true, I can't argue with that if Wikipedia requires it.
- 3. That explains it. For now, I'll see what the mods say on it. Who knows? Maybe they'll let it stay up or not. TheFloridaTyper (talk) 01:19, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- 3. Sooner or later they will notice. By the way I noticed that you added pictures to the article. While I personally am in favor of that, be careful of the pictures added. There is a chance that the mods or the bots might take it down.
- 4. Another thing I need to bring you up to speed regarding Wikipedia pages is that you need to be direct and straight to the point. For example, one thing I am repeatedly seeing here is that you are constantly mentioning the transformation count of Ben's aliens. Sure, it is noteworthy as a fan but not relevant to the main plot. If this were the Ben 10 wiki, sure (but even the mods there would not let that slide). Again, only mention information that is directly stated or shown in the show. If you want to add additional information, find references to support it. Try looking at other Wikipedia pages of cartoons and how they present information. A good example is the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" pages on Wikipedia. Every detail that is mentioned there is well cited, to the point, and well formatted. The reason for this is for better readability.
- 5. And please keep your language as formal as possible on the page. Normally repeated edits like yours would get you reported by the mods for vandalism, as they do not have the time nor the patience to deal with this. However, given that you are not aware of some of the rules of Wikipedia is why I am letting you know. Regarding vandalism, if it persists, it can get the page deleted by the mods.
- 6. I can tell that you edit the Ben Tennyson page with a lot of care, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, please understand that Wikipedia is for general audiences, not only fans of the show. Some of them could potentially be visiting the page for the very first time without knowing anything about the character. While it is important for them to have all the information necessary, it is even more important for them to keep it simple enough to understand.
Here is a link that would help you better understand what I mean when I am referring to what kind of edits are not allowed: https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not BlazerStar10 (talk) 14:19, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- 3. You're right. They did and all the photos were removed from Wikipedia
- 4. Thanks. I'll give it a read and add more citations.
- 5. Definitely. I'll make sure the language is as formal as possible.
- 6. You're right it is. It's supposed to explain briefly what something is, but not go fully in depth. I'll shorten down the paragraphs right now and give the article a read. Thank You and Good Night if you're on the Eastern Tinezone. TheFloridaTyper (talk) 01:13, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- I am glad the article I linked was able to help somehow. Having said that, the article still contains a lot of jargon that is not relevant to the page, and therefore needs cleanup for better readability. What I mean by that is that the article contains story bits, and connections to the lore that is only relevant to fans only, but not general audiences. For example, the constant keeping track of Ben's transformation count, extremely stressing on Ben's reactions (I am mentioning the part where you stated Ben swore to never be like Ben 10,000. Even though this is understood by us fans, Ben himself never said that nor acknowledged that directly in the show. Wikipedia does not like this kind of implications unless cited by the show's creators themselves. So I will be clearing anything that looks very informal and not connecting well with the flow of the page. BlazerStar10 (talk) 03:38, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
