Sprot at Recent Deaths
editHi,
Just wondering what was going on at my old friend "Recent Deaths". Since the page links off the main page (and was, in fact, how I became involved with WP as an anon. newbie), I don't favor long-term protection of any kind for it. Let know if there is anything I can do to help resolve on-going problems. Best wishes, Xoloz 13:42, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
Bot flag request
editHi! Can you have a look at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approvals#User:StefanBot_bot_flag_approval_request, and Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approvals#Botflag re-re-request and considering granting my bot a bot flag, seams that my questions is forgotten on the talk page. AOL Vandal
editHi Tawker, Not sure who to ask, but seen as you're the Botmeister. Maybe you're aware of the bot vandalism by AOL IPs 207.200.116.XXX which adds es to random pages about 1 a second. Myself and the usual lot of recent changes patrollers are on top of it (ish). But my question is there anyway I can do a search on past edits by this IP and if the change has had es in it? Just aware that with the bot doing this much damage loads of entries will have been missed. I have Lupins recent IP edits as well as popups, but would like to do a better historical search if possible. Cheers Khukri (talk . contribs) 13:29, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's on the todo list, things are a tad busy around here though :o -- Tawker 14:20, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Don't mean to stress you out or anything, just wondering if there was anything already existing that's all. If not no bother. Cheers

Bot Approval
editHello Tawker. Do you know if I have to have bot approval to have a bot on Wikipedia? GrasslandT 15:18, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Voting
editI've seen this particular user's name in a voting process on one of the pages I'm interested in and found your comment on his vote about User:Jaranda through his contributions. One thing got my attention that he has been into a lot of votings, cast all his votes with no explanations (except for one case, where he says he agrees with another user) and never commented on the articles' discussion pages nor edited the articles. For your information. DeliDumrul 05:16, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Is there a reason you blocked User:24.123.127.189?

editThanks for voting! Hello Tawker/Jul06, and thanks for your support in my recent RfA. I'm pleased to announce that it passed with a final tally of (96/0/0). WP:AIV/TB2
editI think in TB2's edit summarys when it reports vandals, it should link to the talk page instead of the userpage, because linking to the userpage is pointless and many vandals don't have userpages. --GeorgeMoney (talk) (Help Me Improve!) 21:57, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
A belated thank you
editHi there:
I need to offer you a much belated thank you for your support of my RfA. I have been off Wikipedia for a week due to illness and work, so I apologize for the lateness of this response. Unfortunately, my RfA wasn't successful, but I certainly got some good feedback. Thank you.

My Mistake
editI recently changed the message on your wikibreak from what you had and what I was planning on adding to my userpage. It was a careless mistake that should not have happened. I quickly reverted it when I saw what I had done but regardless I am sorry. I had recently been looking at your userpage and seen you were on wikibreak. As a result instead of looking for the template I just went to your page and was planning on editting it there and copy and pasting to my without ever saving. I got sidetracked while writing it and as a result forgot. As a result I simply saved it when I was done typing it. Again I am sorry and hope that I have not upset you in anyway. Leave me a message on my talk if there is any problem at all. Sorry again, SorryGuy 06:31, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Hiroshima: Mistake
editAt the moment there is an anon IP absolutely desemating the Hiroshima article. It seems that I was quicker then your bot on one occasion, I got in, reverted the vandal, and the next second your bot (obviously set to revert last edit) reverted my edit back to the vandalism. I then reverted your bots revert (I hope this makes sense) but your bot gave me a warning at 11:11, 5 July 2006, maybe you could make it so that if it wants to revert an edit by *insert IP or username* it makes sure that it was that ip or username that made the last edit before it saves the page. Thanks. Tobes (talk) 11:17, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it does check, I've heard of it happening on the odd odd fluke case, I don't think there's a heck of a lot more we can try there but i'll look -- Tawker 16:55, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ok then, I just thought I'd bring it to your attention but it seems it was a random fluke. Doesn't really matter. And good job with the bot, it's beaten me to reverts many a time :) Tobes (talk) 05:46, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Tawkerbot4 reverts to vandal version
editSee [2]. How to correct it? Anwar 02:57, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- It's called a vandal bot. It was created to protect pages against vandalism. If you don't want to be reverted by it, please just don't vandalize. [3] [4] [5] [6] --Msiev 12:14, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- No I reverted the vandalism. The bot mistook it to be vandalism. Now the article contains only fundamentalist POV. For example, UP has a population of 31m not 13m. Anwar 14:25, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

AntiVandalBot malfunctioning again
editI've just blocked AntiVandalBot (talk · contribs) due to malfunctioning. It was reverting edits by DVD R W (talk · contribs), who is an administrator. See the page history of expressionist architecture. --Ixfd64 23:46, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- It turned out that the problem was caused by an outdated list rather than an actual malfunction. I originally guessed that the bot checked for administrator permissions through special:listusers; it seems that I was wrong. As DVD R W became an administrator only recently, he probably wasn't added to the bot's list until now. --Ixfd64 00:15, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Suggested merge of WP:AIV/TB2
editI'm not sure if you've been following the discussion at WT:AIV, but there's a fair consensus to merge the TB2 and main AIV pages in some way (my own preference is for a complete merge, others have suggested transcluding). Obviously this would require reconfiguration of Tawkerbot2, so we can't just go ahead and do it. Would you consider merging the pages or, if there are technical issues we don't know about, let us know? --Sam Blanning(talk) 08:31, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

151.205.39.227 (talk · contribs)'s redirections
editGreetings, Tawker. The block you made for 3RR was likely off however a block was likely warranted regardless as disruption per the fact that I had warned the user against repetitively redirecting. I'm not questioning your judgement but maybe it'd be good to warn the user yourself and revert the last redirect and then lift the block with an understanding that they'll not revert again? Thanks. (→Netscott) 19:52, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- User:Pgk seems to have made a proper explanation of citing 3RR on the user's page... still if they agree to refrain from reverting I think it'd be a good gesture to lift the block. Thanks. (→Netscott) 19:55, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Tawker sorry for questioning your block. You were correct in citing WP:3RR, this revert is where this user expressed an "entitlement to 3RR" which is definitely not in accord with policy. (→Netscott) 20:06, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello Tawker/Jul06, and thank you for your Wild support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). - What you did was a cut and paste move, instead of using the big shiny move button up by the edit this page button. I've done the move for you using the move button -- Tawker 22:53, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- You just mistakenly reverted twenty minutes worth of my work. These are supposed to be two separate pages: Carnot cycle and Carnot heat engine. I couldn't use the move button, because there were parts and chunks that needed to be distributed to each page, so I started to do a cut-n-paste job but got reverted by your bot. Please revert what you just did; it was all fixed at my last edit, in which I uploaded two new images. Please comment back when you are finished. Thanks:--Sadi Carnot 00:09, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Please see my comments on User:Yamla/Samanello; I don't see that the warnings given to Samanello were appropriate or that good faith was assumed in initially engaging with them on the vandalism point. There are very good, strong reasons for those policies, and the escalation of abuse and indef block do not appear to have been necessary outcomes of the initial dispute. editYou suggested I use a test wiki, but you didn't give me a link. Is it [test.wiki.x.io here]? (ah, so it is...do I really have to? For testing purposes, I'm not sure it's suitable) Anyway, at this stage, I'd basically just like to run a script to parse the second, third, etc largest wiki's FA categories, and process interwiki links, adding FAOL tags, maybe other useful stuff (where should I ask around for good ideas? VP?). I'm not sure the resulting list will be so large I couldn't do the edits by hand, but if/when I start writing code to do such editing, I should post a re-application, right? After the initial run, the number of new foreign FAs to check shouldn't be excessive, and could simply be posted to some user or project page. I recall reading about a pyinterwikibot or something like that, but I don't think I was able to download the code for it; again, if you have a link, I would be grateful. Eluchil404's RfA
editThank you for taking the time to express an opinion in my recent request for adminship. I have withdrawn my self-nomination because there seemed little prospect for further productive discussion or the formation of a consensus to promote. Many commentators offered constructive critisism that I will use to improve myself as a user. Others suggested that the nomination was premature and that a re-nom in a few months would be more likely to gain consensus. The rational you gave was per Tony. If you have the time, I would appreciate some feedback on what specific actions I can take to remedy the problems identified by Tony Sidaway. If not, no problem, I still appreciate the feedback. Happy editing! Eluchil404 19:30, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Is John Clary a re-creation of Johnny Lee Clary?
editI note that Potters house (talk · contribs) was involved in both the editing of Johnny Lee Clary and with John Clary, who appears to be the same individual. I do not know whether it's the same article content, but I view it as a quite real possibility -- Potters house, "Nick", seems to think that Wikipedia policies are there to be disregarded when he sympathizes with or chooses to believe one side over the other. -- Antaeus Feldspar 22:31, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Tawker, was watching what was going on from a distance. I'm here to request an unblock. I believe that the vandalism warning on his talk page was a bit superfluous given that there was an edit war in play. I can understand Ardenn wanting to remove it. I'm not condoning Ardenn's actions on other pages, but I don't think it'd be right to block him over this. Thanks -- Samir धर्म 05:29, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- But I do agree he was gaming 3RR -- Samir धर्म 05:31, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Tawker: Prior to his block for gaming 3RR, Ardenn left two messages on my talk page. His second note, in which he states that he feels his ongoing reverts of the A-Channel affiliate stations do not qualify as vandalism, is a fair comment. Having reviewed the relevant article, I can see his point, as his actions are described quite clearly in the section "What vandalism is not". However, I firnly believe that his use of the "no personal attacks" template here is unwarranted, and that its spurious inclusion on my talk page could easily be misinterpreted by readers unaware of the details of the dispute. As Wikipedia policy discourages users from independently deleted "warning" class messages from their talk pages, I am seeking the permission of an administrator to do so. Thank you in advance for your assistance, and I'm sorry that this issue has reached this stage. --Ckatzchatspy 05:57, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

While you're pondering
editI have to get to bed as I have to lead rounds tomorrow, so could I make a suggestion? If Ardenn agrees not to edit any of the articles in question for at least 31 hours, lets the RfC reach consensus on the articles (by which time hopefully more on the deal in question will come to fruition) and avoids Ckatz, could the block be lifted? Thanks for your consideration man -- Samir धर्म 06:23, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
