On the Main page today Jean Sibelius on his birthday. Listening to Beethoven's Fifth from the opening of Notre-Dame de Paris. We sang in choirs today. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:54, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Listen today to the (new) Perplexities after Escher. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:28, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Listen today to Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. I picked a recording with Antônio Meneses, because he was on my sad list this year, and I was in Brazil (see places), and I love his playing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:12, 16 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

I come to fix the cellist's name, with a 10-years-old DYK and new pics - look for red birds --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:34, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Today is a woman poet's centenary. - Thank you for improving article quality in December, including from deletion to quality! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:25, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Gerda Arendt, thanks! Thank you for your article contributions this month and this year as a whole too!
Fun fact, we're playing the Fifth Symphony by Beethoven for a concert in January...coincidence? ;)
Also, I remember seeing somewhere on the news headlines (can't quite remember what the specific website was) that Meneses had died. This is just an example of how good his playing style was. Another legendary cellist lost. :( ~ Tails Wx 22:57, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'd love to hear "your" Beethoven! - You may have seen that Meneses died right here on our Main page because I brought him there ;) - The projects "sad list" is a list of those who arrived on the Main page, - more than 90 already this year, and working on 2 more. Would you have time for a GA review? Jesu, nun sei gepreiset, BWV 41? - It should become a New Year DYK, so needs to happen soon ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:04, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: Sure! I'll try and open and finish reviewing it right before Christmas. ~ Tails Wx 20:41, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sounds great! Could you open right now? It would look better for a DYK nom if the review had at least begun ;) - 7 days before desired date is mimimum, but often preps get filled sooner. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:47, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Done: Talk:Jesu, nun sei gepreiset, BWV 41/GA1. I promise I'll have it done sooner than later! ~ Tails Wx 21:06, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! - Today it's another great woman, soprano Sigrid Kehl, and I found a 1963 Christmas Oratorio detail. 10 years earlier than that cycle, Bach wrote seven cantatas for the 1724 season, based on seven songs, - my focus this year. Expect three stories for the three days they celebrated in Leipzig ;) - Enjoy the season! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:46, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just completed the GA review for ya! Happy holidays to you as well! ~ Tails Wx 22:37, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! - I came to tell you: my first Christmas story is about Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ, BWV 91, 300 years today, and its song, 500 years old. Enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:34, 25 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps we have a different understanding about "complete". - I replied there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:38, 25 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the approval! - My second Christmas story is about Christum wir sollen loben schon, BWV 121, also 300 years today, and its song, 500 years old. An aria is inspired by a baby leaping in his mother's womb. Enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:41, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

My third Christmas story is different. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:07, 27 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey hope you’re doing well. I need your help in uploading a logo in Wikimedia. --Quabizabdul (talk) 12:43, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Quabizabdul! So according to Wikipedia:Logos, logos are acceptable for use on Wikipedia per the non-free criteria. The logo pictured on Starbucks is an example of this. Wikimedia Commons cannot host non-free files, though (except if it is in the public domain), and in this case, a non-free image should be uploaded through file upload wizard here. ~ Tails Wx 20:39, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

How do i create a citation --SchwartzMorgan (talk) 07:58, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, @SchwartzMorgan! Through visual editor, you can create a citation automatically by pressing the "cite" button at the top of the editing bar. For source code, a specific template should generate a source (and Help:Citation#Inline citations is useful here), for example:
<ref>{{cite web|last=Clash|first=Jim|date=June 13, 2023|url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimclash/2023/06/13/riders-on-the-storms-tornado-chasings-all-the-rage/?sh=449999e45fb5|title=Riders On The Storms: Tornado Chasing's All The Rage|access-date=April 13, 2024|website=[[Forbes]]}}</ref>
This produces a source: [1]. ~ Tails Wx 21:01, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

edit

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from KyaniteAl2SiO5 on LENA Foundation (21:17, 11 January 2025)

edit

Hi Tails! I'm learning how to edit Wikipedia, and am completing some copyediting tasks. The title of the page I'm working on is currently "LENA Foundation", but the third paragraph in the History section indicates that the word "Foundation" is no longer part of the organization's name. Would it be appropriate for me to change the title of the page, and if so, to what? Maybe "Language Environment Analysis"? --KyaniteAl2SiO5 (talk) 21:17, 11 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi @KyaniteAl2SiO5! In this case, I believe there's somewhere in Wikipedia's Manual of Style that would have to deal with the title of the page – I don't think "Language Environment Analysis" would be a title that could be used here. I'm not familiar with pages similar to that, though, so it wouldn't hurt to ask others who've contributed significantly to that article or other similar articles for their opinion of the page's title name. Thanks! ~ Tails Wx 04:19, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar!

edit
  The Teamwork Barnstar
Hey Tails! For the last many hours, you've been a massive help in patrolling the back end of the NPP queue! When we started editing like, 7 hours ago at this point, I don't think either of us realized how much of a mammoth it might be. Sure, there were only 65 total unreviewed articles from 2023 and earlier (which was a number that continued to grow), but these were some of the toughest reviews I've ever had to make as they've sat at the end for so long, well over a year old for many of them. Your help over Discord to bounce ideas back and forth, figuring out solutions, saving pages from dire straits and verifying notability in cases where it seemed all hope was lost, this was some powerful and effective editing, and your teamwork was beyond appreciated to me. By the time I'm leaving this message now, there's only four remaining pages left from pre-2024! And after this hurdle, we as an NPP team are able to take a big leap forward with more modern articles, which is a lifesaver for the backlog drive and anyone carrying the rear. So to your efforts, thank you immensely for your help these last several hours in figuring things out together! Utopes (talk / cont) 01:26, 19 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
