Yakov Estrin and Two Knights book
You added a "Two Knights Defense" book to Yakov Estrin. I have the older book by him with the same name, but not the book you added. Is it a different book or a republication of the same book? Bubba73 (talk), 18:06, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- I don't have the original to compare. The publishers is different(batsford) and the 1983 book says first edition inside the cover, also some games are quoted with a 'year' since the original book. ChessCreator (talk) 19:00, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- It may be a new edition of the same book. Does it say anything about being previously published? The one I have is in this format:
- Introduction
- Forward to the English Edition
- Move by move index
- Bibliography
Then it has four parts (translating to algebraic):
- 4. Ng5 d5 6. exd5, with four chapters
- Wilkes-Barre
- 4. d4 exd4, with two chapters
- Two chapters: 4. Nc3 and 4. O-O.
- Does the newer book follow that pattern? Bubba73 (talk), 19:42, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Quite different. Like this:
- Contents
- Forward
- Then it's like this
- 4. Unusual 4th moves (chapter 1)
- 4. d4 (chapters 2 to 5)
- 4. Ng5 (chapters 6 to 14)
- Index of variations ChessCreator (talk) 20:57, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Quite different. Like this:
- OK, let's take them as two seperate books then. Thanks. Bubba73 (talk), 21:02, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Defence vs. Defense
It's considered bad manners to unilaterally change American English spelling to British spelling. Generally an article with a strong tie to a particular region should use the spelling of that region. Otherwise the article should be internally consistent, and the the variety used most often in the article should be retained. Generally this is the spelling chosen by the creator of the article, although not always. See WP:ENGVAR. Quale (talk) 07:40, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I first noticed this page http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Semi-Open_Game
- Where the majority of links are to pages that are Defence and therefore are redirects from defense to defence. Therefore it made sense to make the changes to the linking article.

- Sorry to reply so late, but one article that should be gone over to ensure British English usage is Ruy Lopez. I greatly expanded and reorganized it some time ago. The article used UK spelling before I worked on it and I tried to maintain this spelling, but as a native of the US I found I had slipped up several times. If you have the fortitude for it you could check that article and fix any American English spellings that may have crept in. (Not to mention make any other improvements that you think of.) Quale (talk) 04:47, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- No doubt there are many articles that are incorrect, but I don't intent to search out the history on them to check how they should be according to the wiki policy. If I stumble across something that looks wrong then I may investigate. There is one page that I currently consider incorrect but it's not a priority for me to get involved to get it corrected. I've added quite a few of them in recent weeks, and none have been chalanged. They are not out of copyright unless they are before 1923 (1950 for USSR). A key is to have a fair use statement, and the person being dead, and that it is low resolution (< 100KB). Bubba73 (talk), 01:49, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
WP:CHESS participants
That's a very nice update to the way the participants are displayed on the WP:CHESS—extra cool points for you. Quale (talk) 22:29, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I was looking at what other WikiProject's do and noticed that several use this member method.
Thanks
I enjoy chess, but I don't join WikiProjects, as I basically never edit articles based on the subject matter. Thanks for the offer though. --Closedmouth (talk) 02:39, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
St George Defen{c|s}e
Fine. I'll go ahead and delete the redirect, then... Tonywalton Talk 12:15, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
