Re: File:Man or bear.png

edit

Hey, good work creating File:Man or bear.png. I don't know if you received any feedback on this, but a few things stuck out to me, and I was wondering if you were opposed to fixing them or considering some changes to improve the presentation of the image:

  • Forest landscape. The placement of the woman, bear, and man are placed too far into the background. Moving them closer, into the foreground would achieve a more realistic look.
  • Woman. This one is a bit more difficult. When we look at the original image, we can determine a few things. The average painting is hung at eye-level at approximately 1.5 meters from the floor, or approximately five feet. Knowing this we can determine the height of the woman and compare it to the height of the man. Given her heels, we can add that measurement as well.
  • Bear. Personally, I think you got the size right on this, but that's just my uninformed impression.
  • Man. I would probably have to do some high school trig to determine the height of the man here, which is doable based on the distance of the man to the fence and the angle, but just eyeballing it alone, this man looks tall, perhaps just under 1.9 meters. Given the above, I propose increasing his height in relation to the woman.

I suspect you know all of this already, but I'm interested in any opinion you might have. Thank you. Viriditas (talk) 23:38, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wow, thanks for the analysis and suggestions! I was not thinking that hard about proportion when I made the image and I'll take your word for it that you know what you're talking about, but I think I've already deleted the files on my computer I used to make the image at this point. But if I have the time soon I could double check my trash folder and redo anything if I didn't delete it Squidb4ll (talk) 00:17, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh, no worries. The only reason I even bring this up is because last week I was taking photos in a coastal, California forest. So I immediately recalled it, having spent some time pouring over the photos. If you look at the original forest pic you used as a landscape template, you can see how placing the figures farther in the foreground solves most of the issues, other than the height of the man. Thanks for replying and enjoy your week. Viriditas (talk) 00:33, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, you too Squidb4ll (talk) 00:47, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
