Connected contributor template

edit

Hey Slim. It looks like you were the most recent admin to post on Template_talk:Connected_contributor. I was wondering if you think my issue with the banned user text is warranted. It looks like the template doesn't detect whether a user has made any edits to the article in question. So my idea to detect a user's gender is probably too much to ask. I would just propose some generic line like "This user has been banned and is therefore subject to additional scrutiny per WP:REVERTBAN." Thanks! Connor Behan (talk) 19:43, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Administrators' newsletter – May 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2018).

  Guideline and policy news

  • The ability to create articles directly in mainspace is now indefinitely restricted to autoconfirmed users.
  • A proposal is being discussed which would create a new "event coordinator" right that would allow users to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit.

  Technical news

  • AbuseFilter has received numerous improvements, including an OOUI overhaul, syntax highlighting, ability to search existing filters, and a few new functions. In particular, the search feature can be used to ensure there aren't existing filters for what you need, and the new equals_to_any function can be used when checking multiple namespaces. One major upcoming change is the ability to see which filters are the slowest. This information is currently only available to those with access to Logstash.
  • When blocking anonymous users, a cookie will be applied that reloads the block if the user changes their IP. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. This currently only occurs when hard-blocking accounts.
  • The block notice shown on mobile will soon be more informative and point users to a help page on how to request an unblock, just as it currently does on desktop.
  • There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

Template talk:Lynching in the United States

edit

FYI, I left a note at Template talk:Lynching in the United States. I also added a lynching to the template--does it need to get approved by an administrator like yourself, or is it good to go please?Zigzig20s (talk) 16:44, 2 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Zigzig20s, edits don't need to be approved by admins. Your additions look fine. SarahSV (talk) 18:06, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I realized that later. Thanks though.Zigzig20s (talk) 18:17, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
You've done good work there. Thank you. SarahSV (talk) 18:23, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Interaction Timeline V1.1

edit

Hello SlimVirgin, I’m following up with you because you previously showed an interest in the Interaction Timeline. The Anti-Harassment Tools team has completed V1.1 and the tool is ready for use. The Interaction Timeline shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits.

The purpose of the tool is to better understand the sequence of edits between two users in order to make a decision about the best way to resolve a user conduct dispute. Here are some test cases that show the results and also some known limitations of the tool. We would like to hear your experience using the tool in real cases. You can leave public feedback on talk page or contact us by email if the case needs discretion or you would prefer to comment privately. Yale student abortion art controversy page - advice?

edit

Hi! It was suggested that I reach out to you for advice regarding a discussion happening on the Yale student abortion art controversy page, given your work on the Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight) page and related Columbia University rape controversy page. I'd really appreciate your opinion. Thank you! —Vera Syuzhet (talk) 00:12, 16 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Vera, I can't promise to comment but I'll take a look. SarahSV (talk) 18:03, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Black Friday

edit

Hi Sarah, I'd like to extend an olive branch, following the exchanges over Black Friday. I know that you have the best interests of the encyclopaedia at heart, and that is your sole driver, but I have to say that you can come across as being a little inflexible from time to time, even when it's a matter of opinion, rather than incontrovertible necessity. That said, I know it is for the right reasons, and I know should also have been more accommodating with your comments.

I would like to try again with the Black Friday article, which I have tweaked a little per your original comments. I intend to take this to FAC shortly, but would appreciate it if you could make any further comments you consider appropriate before I do that. Cheers – SchroCat (talk) 12:02, 25 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi SchroCat, thanks for the note and the olive branch. I can see a few issues with the article, but I don't have time to address them. It's mostly the long background section that's the problem. I wouldn't feel able to support it if it went to FAC. I'm sorry. SarahSV (talk) 14:44, 26 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I have trimmed the history section and will go over it again shortly before taking any more action. - SchroCat (talk) 08:31, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Sarah, I've cut the background section consideably, and I'm not sure it could (or should) be cut back any further without leaving holes in understanding. I'll have another read through in the morning, but if I can't see any more issues (or if you can't point out any more you see should be trimmed or addressed), I'll take it to FAC for wider input. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 20:02, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

help?

edit

I have been working with a group of editors to completely rewrite and improve the article on the Women's liberation movement. This is in-effect the 50-year anniversary of its take-off propelled by the student protests in 1968 (yes, some groups started before but it took off in '68). We would like to submit it for GA, but are doing the final tweaks. I'd like to line up a reviewer before we submit it, as my files seem to languish there and we want someone who will do a thorough review, not a rubber stamp.

I think it is important that the same reviewer tackle the entirety of the subject, which means reviewing 5 articles. To show the breadth of the movement, we broke it up into a main article and the four continents on which it flourished. In speaking with Montanabw, she suggested you might take on the task, as she is swamped in real life. Would you be interested in reviewing the articles for us? (as a side note, do you know anyone fluent in Spanish who could review a nomination which has been pending since September 2017?) Thank you for any help or insight you can give. SusunW (talk) 13:34, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Susan, thank you for thinking of me, but I'm afraid I don't have the time, especially not for five articles. The only thing I can suggest is that you ask for reviewers on WT:FEMINISM, WT:WOMEN and WT:GGTF, and on WT:SPAIN for a translator. I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful. Best of luck with it. SarahSV (talk) 19:15, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I think I would rather have someone with a track record of doing thorough review than just blindly posting it, but I may change my mind. Thank you for your input. SusunW (talk) 19:42, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
