New Photo Matching Service

Hi there,

I'm contacting you because you listed yourself at Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Photographers. You might be interested in a new wikiproject page that lists photographers and articles that need photos by location. The page is located at Wikipedia:Photo Matching Service or WP:PMS GabrielF 00:31, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

tube stations

With most tube stations, with the exception of interchanges with National Rail lines, i don't really think that UK Railways should be mentioned. Simply south 17:05, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Other metro stations in the UK

On a related issue, WP:LUL only manage the London Underground and related. I don't think this applies to Glasgow or Newcastle (perhaps not yet) so this tag should be removed or should not be added to these articles or the ain ones. Simply south 14:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

A Good Article review you might be interested in

One of the articles you seem to of cared for is on the GA review page right now, I think that since you're familiar with the actual content of the article more than any of us, that you would be able to re-write the lead better than any of us :/. Homestarmy 22:22, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Err, now there's two articles. Homestarmy 22:35, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Trains WikiProject and railway station importance

Hello Slambo,

I recently noticed that when adding the importance parameters on the series of Hauptbahnhof articles I translated from de:, you assigned Arnstadt Hauptbahnhof to Mid-Importance whilst Bielefeld Hauptbahnhof and others were given Low-Importance. That made me chuckle a bit; as the latter is about ten times more important as the former. A little helpful hint to give you a general guideline for the importance of German stations is the railway station classification issued by DB. I've been adding to article infoboxes recently; I think category 1 and parts of category 2 should always be Mid-Importance (with the high-profile stations in cat. 1 like Berlin Hauptbahnhof, Frankfurt Hbf, München Hbf and others certainly deserving a High rating), whilst the lower-profile stations of Cat2 and everything in Cats 3 to 6 can be rated Low without doubt.

I'd do the importance assessment myself, but somehow I feel uncomfortable in rating articles I've mostly written or translated by myself.

MARTA vandalism

Thank you for keeping your eye on the recent vandalism of the MARTA article. I appreciate you taking quick action to revert the edits and block the user. Biomedeng 16:25, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

quality assessment

Please, can you review the quality assessment of FS ALn 772? It was clean up after initial rating --Jollyroger 13:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Problem of the photos is that the vehicle is no more in use, and mosto of the old photos are still copyrighted. I don't think fair use is a good policy for WP, so I won't (ab)use it.
It's difficult to give inline references, mostly because the sources are almost all related to the Fiat archives, technical magazines and a few books. Websites mostly take texts from these, so they are only a second-level source.
Most of the infos come from the books cited in "further readings", not from online sources. Jollyroger 11:21, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

An Award

I award this barnstar to Slambo for his amazing efforts in contributing to railway-related articles, especially by way of pictures.

I would like to pitch in on the WikiProject Trains. I am the original author of the Lake Shore Electric Railway article and have contributed to the Akron, Canton and Youngstown; Mad River and Lake Erie; Wheeling and Lake Erie, and several non-railroad articles. I note that you have rated this article as start-Class without assessment comments. I would have it would have only justified stub at this point. Stewart 21:56, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

a request from User: Vaoverland

Hi, Sean! I have been working on Wikipedia: WikiProject Virginia and several other projects with User: No1lakersfan most of this past year. He is now a high school senior hopping to gain admittance to one of Virginia's public university for the Fall 2007 semester. Following advice, he has done maintenance and reference adding work, as well spending time on articles. He is a good collaborator and I believe he would enhance our efforts with WP as an administrator and use the additional tools and powers wisely. Since you know me from our past communications, I wanted to request that you consider entering a vote, hopefully in support, if you agree with my judgment and recommendation at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/No1lakersfan 2.

twp params

just curious...is it appropriate to add the "passenger" param for stations in the twp boxes? or is it assumed that a station is for passengers only? (it is even possible to have non-passenger stations? i guess...) —lensovettalk19:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Brilliant. I went for the thing that the little know-it-all boy said aboutthe make of the engine. Thanks for setting me straight.

Trust a Madisonian to be in the know. It's a small world - I am in Goteborg, Sweden but have my best friend on Lakeside Street in Madison, WI after my having been a visiting scientist at the Forest Products Lab a decade ago. I am looking to go back to fo some teaching at the U, hopefully in the summer of 2008. Feel free to drop me a line sometime if you feel like it.

Pacific Railway Acts

Please indicate specifically in what way you believe that this article is "unreferenced." I have included a great many hyperlinks and other references (and just added some more External Reference Document Links) in it to the relevent provisions in all the Pacific Railroad Acts, the 1856 REPORT OF THE SELECT COMMITTEE ON THE PACIFIC RAILROAD AND TELEGRAPH, and a variety of other primary source documents and materials all of which I have carefully transcribed and annotated over the past eight years from the complete texts of period original copies of each in my possession. Thank you. Centpacrr 02:02, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Railroad Police/Transit Police

Hey Slambo, it seems to me that there needs to be a separate railroad police article from that of the transit police. The transit police article as it stands now seems to be combining two slightly different animals. Transit police are typically employed by a government entity (i.e. the NY/NJ Port Authority, San Bernardino County) while railroad police are employed by private carriers like UP and BNSF. Some of their mission is the same, while some of it is different. What are your thoughts on this? Equinox137 09:41, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Happy New Year

Hi Slambo - good to see your assesment of the Jakarta and australian arts that I had tagged - appreciate that - will give me something to go by - here in australia we have just started some new WP state projects - so to see the other segments within the trains project will give me an idea of what we can do as we wander through west aust and tasmania rail arts - have a safe and good new year! SatuSuro 18:28, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Please excuse this list - you may have already come across these - potential dyk ( I havent checked the archives) - from, the top of my head - havent checked articles for current status - notability of some might be quite marginal - but...
  • TGR KI - the first beyer garratt ever built was for the west coast line -----
  • North Mount Lyell Railway - was built for a smelters and mine that never worked out ----
  • Lake Margaret Tram - was the main form of transport for the community based at the Lake Margaret Power Station until ----
  • ASG - the most troublesome garrat in australia caused strikes, royal commisions and deaths -----
  • WAGR - the government railways in western australia went through xnumber of name changes between ------
  • In Australia some states had up to 4 different railway guages operating under the one authority (SA or Vic i think....) ----
  • The 1912 North Mount Lyell disaster saw the fastest rail speeds ever accomplished on the west coast of tasmania -----
  • In WA and QLd in australia - isolated branches existed in a number of places (eg Ravensthrope and Marble Bar in WA...) ------
  • The Eastern Railway in WA had three routes in its history - all three were first checked in the 1880's - but the steepest and etc was the first- ---
  • When the West Coast Wilderness Railway was being 'rebuilt' the original passenger rolling stock was considered 'too heavy' to be used....
  • The Mt Lyell Mining and Railway company was a long time west coast tasmania company thatc closed in 1994. Its sruface railway was closed in 1962, but underground continued until closure ----
    • Potential - need work
  • In Perth western australia - horse racing locations Ascot and Helena vale had their own branch lines (articles not completed yet)
  • The West Coast of Tasmania had at least 2 haulage lines _ Mount Lyell and Mount Read (articles not completed yet)
  • Comstock Tram was the name of two separate railways on the west coast of tasmania (articles not completed yet)

So - thats a sample of very rushed new year ideas - I would need to brush up some of the articles... interested to know your reaction SatuSuro 13:42, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
