Laura Dekker

She dont want to do anything with the netherlands anymore it all! She is origenaly from Newzealand and thats the country she want to come out for! She ask me over and over to get this stupid dutch vlag removed, so please do so.

laura-sponsoring@hotmail.com(Hansinehansine (talk) 23:05, 29 December 2011 (UTC))

After reading your earnest message, I did some extra research and discovered that indeed, since at least August 2011, Laura has been trying to fly the New Zealand flag instead of the Dutch one. The most recent remark in this regard was on a blog called "The Old Salt Blog." The link is here: The Long Voyage of Laura Dekker – Reaching the End or Starting Again? . One comment included the line "I am very pleased Laura decided to fly the New Zealand flag." This is from a commentator on a blog, which we do not see as a reliable source of information on its own. However, in another article from August 2011, Born a New Zealander, but solo teen sailor 'gets no support', the author states that "Dekker had 'reached out' to New Zealand but no one appeared interested [to help her fly a New Zealand flag]". So it appears that Laura has not officially acquired New Zealand citizenship exclusive of the Dutch nationality, but she would like to. She carries at least two passports, as far as I could tell, so unless she burns the Dutch one, I don't believe she is only a New Zealander.
I will see what I can do to comply with Laura Dekker's wishes to be seen primarily as a New Zealander. That should not be hard to justify here on WIkipedia. There may be some opposition from Dutch nationals, so I must tread carefully on this thorny issue, and make sure I have enough proof before going forward with the change to a New Zealand flag. It appears though that Laura herself has made the decision not to display the Dutch flag and that should be enough for now. I'll try to implement this within the next day. Please be patient. --Skol fir (talk) 01:26, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Wow it works... I was not realy shure about it. Thank you for your answer, and ofcourse we and Laura understand that lots of dutch people dont like the change to Newzealand. But the Covernement from the Netherlands is so negative to her, even still now. and trying to get her again for court for not going to school, and they are trying to get as much as bad publicity in the netherlands as posible, that Laura have make the disisjen to break up with the Netherlands Completly!

The state is doing this out of concearn that more teens want to drop out of school and start doing strains things... In the Netherlands is a very strikt law everybody has to go to school til 18 no mather what. when you are one day out of school you get a fine wenn you are ill they check every day! So than you understand a little way she have make this finel dissisjen

Laura has use only her Newzealand paspoort for the wohle trip around the world. She is estimatet to finisch at the end of January on Sintmaarten. Than fly back to the Netherlands to visit family and plans to go thru the panamakanal at may going definitively to Newzealand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hansinehansine (talkcontribs) 13:24, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Sorry I dit forget you to answer on the paspoort question. You dont believe she have now only one paspoort.... wel thats tru she have besides her newzealnds pasport also still her german pasport Hansinehansine (talk) 13:39, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Soanya Ahmad

Hello Skol Fir,

I had made some comments on the article discussion page regarding the edit in which you suggested I was being "disruptive". I appreciate your taking the discussion there. BTW - The comment "Can't you read?" was very uncalled for. As a Wiki editor, you should try not to insult the intelligence of other wiki editors. Regards Regatta dog (talk) 15:51, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

It was a perfectly legitimate remark, based on the fact that the only Doane article (in the series -- "Comprehending Reid Stowe") featured at the 1000 days website is "Comprehending Reid Stowe: Early Voyages & The Moitessier Factor". The article I used as a reference for the comment on Reid's claim(s) is Comprehending Reid Stowe: His Various Purposes. See the difference? The relevant quote from there is: "Reid has also claimed that he and Soanya, during the 305 days they were together on the boat, set records for "longest man-and-woman non-stop voyage" and "longest non-stop voyage by a woman." I am not getting this from Reid Stowe's website, but from a secondary source. The fact is that Reid Stowe made the claim. I am not judging the value of the claim; that is not my job as a Wiki editor. --Skol fir (talk) 19:08, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

You are indirectly quoting the subject's partner. I hardly think that carries any credibility. Perhaps I can have an article written about a questionable record I have broken, have Scott Tempesta or someone at SA convey that my mother confirmed the record on the Front Page of SA and that would be an OK scenario for you? So what you are saying is that if the white house press secretary makes some amazingly ridiculous claim on behalf of the president, and that claim is carried in the NYT, that claim is credible simply because the ridiculous claim was carried in the NYT? Please help me understand this, Skol fir. Not long ago you argued that the NYDN was not a credible source, and now you are trying to argue that Reid Stowe and Charlie Doane are credible sources? As you well know, Reid is the subject's partner and father of her child. Charlie Doane is a very biased, close friend of the family. The vast majority of the content of the article comes from Reid and Soanya's web site. If you could find some less biased, reputable sources to confirm these assertians, I'd like to see them. Perhaps we can move this to the discussion page where it would be more appropriate. Regatta dog (talk) 19:47, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Soanya Ahmad (from Channer Conversations).jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Soanya Ahmad -- merger with Reid Stowe article

Skol fir - Not as savvy as you with the technical aspects of Wiki, but the sourcing for the Soanya merger was not good. The link led to a Press Release where the subject was the contact. Hardly impartial. Regatta dog (talk) 03:07, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

I already had this argument with you when the article was stand-alone. That's why I left that information about Soanya there from the merger. All five conditions for using self-published sources were met by the Channer reference that covered the text about Soanya's background. Please see WP:ABOUTSELF. The text you deleted was intended to introduce why this person joined Reid Stowe on his journey, and the timeline of her involvement. I thought it would interest anyone who is reading this article.
As I said before, Wikipedia does not interpret references, it just uses them. I did not see anything self-serving in the text that you removed. Sure, Channer used the press release from the 1000-day website, but from his viewpoint that was obviously the best source for information about Soanya. Who would know her better, than the people on her own team?
I'm not going quibble over Soanya's background. I have no reason not to believe it. You seem to know something about Soanya that I do not. So, on that note, I will defer to your superior knowledge about the subject. I don't have time to argue about nothing. --Skol fir (talk) 04:49, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Nu Phi Delta in the Hunter College page

Hi,

You reverted my deletion from the hunter college page. The reason i deleted Nu Phi Delta from the Hunter College Wikipedia page is because they are not a true fraternity on campus. They are only a club with greek letters that they don't have trademarked. The school considers them a club; therefore, they can't be exclusive. They don't belong under Greek Life on this page.

Thank you

Although you did not sign your comment, I assume I am talking to Hunterdavid. I noticed that in the article for Nu Phi Delta it is acknowledged that this "fraternity" is registered as a club. That agrees with your statement above. Nu Phi Delta does not appear in List of social fraternities and sororities, nor in another list that I checked for U.S. fraternities. I am going to delete it from the section Hunter_College#Greek_life as you requested. I gather you noticed that I removed the year 1400 from the Kappa Sigma entry, because that applies only to the establishment of the fraternity internationally, not as a chapter of Kappa Sigma at Hunter College. --Skol fir (talk) 03:30, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

As this organization is in it's infancy and is LOCAL you will not be able to find much information on the internet. I go to school and work at Hunter so I know first hand. As far as Nu Phi Delta Fraternity goes they do seem to be very much a legitimate Greek org. I didn't even know there was KS at Hunter so it must be a colony. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.244.90.36 (talk) 06:27, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for entering this discussion. I only removed the "Nu Phi Delta" frat group because of "Hunterdavid", who also appears to be from Hunter College. What he said, seemed to make sense when I first checked it out. However, if you insist that ΝΦΔ belongs there, it is OK with me. As for "Kappa Sigma", it is listed as a colony at Kappa Sigma Fraterniity, Chapters. We'll see if "Hunterdavid" objects, and go from there. I will not change anything you edited until now at Hunter_College#Greek_life. --Skol fir (talk) 13:58, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

I have no idea what you are asking here. Just dumping a list of photos from an outside site onto Wikipedia makes no sense. Anyway, this is not the venue for requesting file uploads. Please take your request to Wikipedia:Files for upload. Thank you. --Skol fir (talk) 19:14, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission --67.125.159.8 (talk) 22:44, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
I repeat. Wikipedia is not a dumping ground for personal photos. Keep them in your own album. If you want to use them here, then you must go through the proper channels to have them uploaded. I already instructed you to use Wikipedia:Files for upload for help. I don't see the point of adding someone's private photo collection to Wikipedia. Furthermore, all the photos you listed are from a private photostream at Flickr and are copyright protected (all rights reserved). If you are the owner of the photos, then you can change the license at the Flickr website. --Skol fir (talk) 23:11, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
It does get declined for the same reason anyway! --68.120.229.206 (talk) 00:38, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Red Mist

Please refrain from using wikipedia tools to engage in Cyberstaliking. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.52.212.244 (talk) 02:39, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

You might want to take a spelling course. Secondly, there was no "cyberstalking" here. You were the person who created a purely fabricated link between Vic Toews and Red Mist (see WP:NOR). That is how I found out about the erroneous additions you were making at the "Red Mist" article. I am just doing what any sensible editor would have done. Create your own blog, if you want to make up stories (apart from reality). Wikipedia is not a place to promote your own theories. Also, any source you use that does not have editorial oversight is not permissible in Wikipedia.
If you are serious about contributing to Wiki, then get yourself a properly registered ID, instead of hiding behind an anonymous IP, and in the future, please remember to sign your comments, so we know who wrote them. --Skol fir (talk) 05:19, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

i have another article about jennifer lopez album some user said the album

sold 800,000 copies but the album sold 2,000,000 copies worldwide. i tried to talk to user and talk page but nothing work really.

please remove it

the article == http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Como_ama_una_Mujer the score is also from wiki == http://es.wiki.x.io/wiki/Como_ama_una_mujer thanks--sola$$$$$$$$ (talk) 16:55, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Sola2012 -- Your number of 2,000,000 has no proof, even in the Spanish version of the article. I read that article and the only evidence they have is a chart of world-wide sales that only adds up to 658,000 copies (back in 2007). Also, FYI you are not allowed to use another Wiki article as backing for any statements made at Wikipedia. That amounts to self-referencing, which is not proper for an encyclopedia. You must find a reliable outside source to back up any statements, or risk having them removed because of insufficient evidence.
SoapJar21 is right to say that adding information without a source can be considered vandalism, since it ruins the reliability of this encyclopedia, and does not help anyone. --Skol fir (talk) 18:06, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Adrian Hayes article

Thank you for your mail -Skol fir. Will do as instructed. I will put complete information on the references, will add reference on the Biography section and Sustainability section.

Litolividomaliwat, I see that we now have an understanding on how the article can be improved. I also noticed that you have already made some corrections to the article, and I look forward to helping you improve the language in some places, so that it sounds less like a promotional advertisement, and more like a biographical article.
There is no question that with his accomplishments so far, Adrian Hayes deserves his own article. It was just a question of bringing the right tone into the article. A biography of living persons does get more scrutiny than most articles, for very good reasons. This is covered here: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. --Skol fir (talk) 20:00, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. regarding my additional references and deletion of some quoted section, can you advice me what more can I add to remove the warning on the top page of Adrian Hayes (adventurer) the additional citation and the neutrality warning. thank you again and hope you can help me with this.

I have made some necessary fixes and removed the tags accordingly, at Adrian Hayes (adventurer). --Skol fir (talk) 08:13, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you so much for helping me for the page. I have one more problem regarding the page...the photo of Adrian Hayes. Having troubled uploading it because of Copyright issues and I am not familiar with it. I have photo given permission from Adrian hayes but already been used and posted in several website. How can I used them? please advise? Again Thank you so much for your help.

re: this edit, actually, it doesn't matter what order the parameters go in, per Template:Coord/doc#Usage ("display=title, inline has the same effect as display=inline, title"). Cheers, Valfontis (talk) 20:33, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Touché!
I actually noticed that myself, by seeing that the effect was the same. However, my "minor" correction did refer specifically to the Template:Infobox settlement being used at that article. It is good to know that it makes no difference, and that Template:Coord even states that it makes no difference.
