Hi Skier dude

I just uploaded this file (as of above) quite some time ago. It is already described that it is of my own work but i do not understand why it is deleted/removed. May i know why? or how can i undelete this?

My purpose in uploading these pictures is so that Singapore Red Cross Youth Division can have a factual page for people to know more about us. Our purpose is similar to that of St.johns Ambulance brigade in Singapore.

Thank you, RCenthusiast

about: Grain surfboards logo.jpg.JPG

edit

Hello Skier Dude!

I am still actually working on the article for grain surfboards and hopefully it will meet Wikipedia's notability guideline when I submit it real soon. I intended to upload the file to have a realistic look on the page while i am working on it.. didn't know it wasn't right. I'm sorry. but I'll just try to submit the article as soon as possible to avoid the deletion of this file. Hoping for your consideration.

Sincerely,

  1. I've been on wikipeida awhile, I know where to find the files I've uploaded (as a suggestion dont treat everyone like their new to the site unless they are)
  2. Ya, i just noticed now that that file was already uploaded once as image:Transformers-20090622-demolisher-concept.jpg, however was taken off the Scavenger page. It was released as the concept art for demolisher apperently, but since Scavenger and Demolisher were supposed to be the same robot I thought it might suffice. Guess not...

Dressed For Radio

edit

Hi Skier Dude,

I recently set up an article for my band, Dressed For Radio but it was quickly deleted. I am new to the Wiki world but would like to utilize it to spread the word about my band. We have a myspace page, myspace.com/dressedforradio if you would like to visit.

Anyhow, I just wanted to see why this page was deleted and if it can be un-deleted and also, what I need to do so that it will no longer be deleted.

Thanks for your help!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.118.7.226 (talk) 21:31, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

like many other people on wikipedia you are labelling a lot of stuff for deletion without actually helping the user figure out what he's doing wrong. I'm new at this but have lots to add to this online encyclopedia that just happens to get top priority on search engines. what is the best way to remove the deletion labels ? getting a photo copyrighted ? sorry I don't know the procedure, the articles pertaining to it are vague. I do know that out of all the photos (11) labelled for deletion that I uploaded everyone should be permissible under the guidelines. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grmike (talkcontribs) 06:18, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

my photo being removed by you

edit

I am the last living Young and in fact a book I have a contract for which is coming out this winter has all 3 of the photos composing this photo I made plus 6000 others of my grandparents and father. Just like the daughter of a writer I quote in the book was allowed to give me permission to use his words and photo, and the publisher's attorney then did not have to approach her for rights, I have the rights to give my publisher any of my family photos to print. You can't ask dead people for rights!I don't understand how you can say I can't use it. Like the family of my family's friend and fellow angler John Voelker author of Anatomy of a Murder had to give me permission to use his words and photo in my book, I have to give anyone permission to use my grandparents photos that were taken in the family by the family - ownership reverted to me. Just because I do not have the word Foundation after my name does not mean that I can or cannot give permission to anyone to use private family photos of my elders. I in fact gave my publisher permissions and his lawyer is now zealously guarding those pictures the publisher now has rights to and if anyone else reprints them they will be in trouble. However my publisher wanted real photos not ones I made in a photo app so this is not in the book and it is my right to put it in the public domain if I wish. At the time I first posted it here my dad was alive and gave me permission to use the photos he took of his parents and the picture I took of him to put in the public domain here if I wished (ie, the very photo you removed.) Now they are mine alone to give rights to or allow public to use free. I can't even find my sandbox which someone of you deleted saying this was 'not As the World Turns' although your rules said we could send friends to our sandbox to learn about us if we wanted, therefore I had done nothing wrong, and when I sent your sandbox rules to him he reposted my sandbox. I was and still am using it to try to figure how to link photos to wiki articles in prepreation for writing some. I used my family for my sandbox to avoid anyone saying I had no rights to something because I hold the rights to every photo my late family owned of my grandparents and father. I put it there for all the anglers to see knowing none would use it, just enjoy; first it is not a complete photo , so useless for biographical pictures, second cuz no one knows who my father was so don't really want a photo of the two great anglers mixed up with that of a stranger. Otherwise millions of people would want it. I'll never find it now as I can't find my sandbox without my notes. I had to open a new wiki account after one computer died and I could never find my sandbox again to delete it after I made it as I promised the man who removed it into a better page with no "rant" in the end of it. Now all I can find is that one (love ehre) and cannot find mine (deanneyoung) . I could only find it by clicking on the photo you are saying had to be being used illegally. it was not. And now I don't seem to have it up any longer how will I ever find my new csite and the only part of it I used--my sandbox which the rules say to playa round with, write about my family in, to get the hag of it , plus invite friends to read it. I have every right in the world and am the only person on earth with that right to give away or charge for or say no to others using the imsge of my dad and his oarents. I thought I did a great job of aligning branch with leg and fish with arm and want it back , I never dreamed i'd lose it ( I lost original in a crashed comouter). I trusted you guys. I sent angler bloggers here all the time to see it. Not knowing it was not here. Will you please return my picture. As far as I could figure out, the only way I could attach a photo to my sandbox to learn how was to put it where I did , that seemed to be where one had to put them to link them. I was so proud when it finally showed up right in my sandbox. I am trying to obey your rules, but I see no reason given why this picture is wrong. You don't say you take down our "learning tools" like sandboxes and photos we are learning to link with our sandboxes so that we know how to link photos and can do articles. When I die which will be within a year no noe will ever be allowed to use a photo pf the late famous Paul H Young again because i am burning them all before I die as all I have to leave them to is a bipolar child with wild mood swings who swears she is throwing them out. However my publisher will have sole rights to the ones in my book for the next 70 years. So for you to get rid of a PHY pic is just keeping the public from being able to actually own a photo or use one because they will never ever get to now. It says I would find out why you took my photo but I see nothing here where I was directed that says a thing about it and , terminally ill, don't have the strength to spend hours on this computer searching for it, or mysandbox. Now i am forced to leave the badly written sandbox up because I cannot find the changed one without politics and off topics in it (which were completely allowable in your sandbox rules but I did not like them either and made a much better article I was then going to learn to link to encyclopedia sources). If you could please put my picture back, I own it, it is up to me what I want to do with it, let it be in public domain or not, and if so, post it where you allow non-copyrighted pix be posted. You are wrong to take it down. The least you could have done was emailed me and said why you felt I had no right to use it so I could have faxed you copies of the wills, PHY's 1960 will leaving all his photos to his wife Martha, her will of 1995 leaving all photos of them to me, also all letters from famous writers, baseball player ted Williams, etc as she wanted me to write the biography of her and my grandfather , and my dad's will of 2007 leaving everything to do with his parents and himself to me,who he was helping with the history book I was writing until the day he died.I own that photo, made it myself in Paintshiop Pro, and can give it away if I want to. Please put it back--at least long enough for me to follow it to my second sandbox, deanneyoung. (recall, I could not find first sandbox then to delete; it turned out you guys had deleted it but when I sent rules saying we could play in sandbox the way I did, the administrator person replaced it, that's why there were 2, and I needed to figure how to get the photo to sandbox 2 like I had gotten it to show up in sandbox 1 so had not yet depleted sandbox 1. I cannot sit up long but am trying my best to obey rules here and have obeyed them. That photo was mine to put in public domain if I wished, and now all my grandparents' catalogues and grandfather's books are going in my book and no one can ever use any part of them without paying me.Excep this one, which I put here copyright free as required so I could learn to make pictures appear in an artcle. As your rules allow. I busted no rules. if so, please explain-these pages do not. Thanks Deanne Young freefolk@gte.netLovehere (talk) 11:34, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

removing my photo

edit

I see now you say you are removing my photo A Tree Grows Through etc(I can't look its title up w/o losing all I wrote here) because it is "orphaned and possibly not free." I have no idea what orphaned means but that shows you how I am trying with it to learn to post photos in the public place one is supposed to (I thought i did). It is what a sandbox is for, to get your feet wet in, learn through trial and error, and this is the first I knew it was not with all the other photos .It is free, if you google Paul H Young you will find much about him but never that photo or any of the three I made it from unless in an article by me for Trout Unlimited's 50th anniversary, or on my social websites like Facebook or MySpace. You will find Grandpa (Paul) died April 1960 on many sites such as link title http://fun801.homestead.com/files/rw19me.htm . If you google Martha M Young or go to a site about women fishermen such as link titlehttp://www.flyanglersonline.com/lighterside/part47.php you will see she died 1996. And if you go to a site about my grandfather's inventions put up by a man you can google as Quashnet ( site URL, whuch also reiterates my grandparents' deaths & fame)is link titlehttp://quashnet.clarksclassicflyrodforum.yuku.com/), he has a link in the lower left section of links, to my father, Paul A Young's, obituary link title(http://www.sptimes.com/2007/08/09/Hillsborough/Outdoorsman_checked_o.shtml). These are the three people in the photo where my grandfather's leg becomes a tree and Dad's arm becomes a fish. There is no way to cite the photo to an encyclopedia as it is not in one, of course. All of the information showing that it is my photo and I can put it in public domain will be in my history book on my family due this winter by link titlewww.whitefishpress.com aka Micropress America LLC. Many of it's 6,000 photos will show you that the three in this photo are indeed Paul H Young, Martha Marie Young, and Paul A. Young. The book will tell you all photos are printed with my permission , thus you will know this is my photo too, if you can only wait til Dec. or Jan to see this. You will see that I own the 3 photos I tricked up and stretched, etc. to make that collage. The collage however I put in public domain by putting it here. Why? I needed something to teach myself how to upload photos (I found loveshere but not my better version of it yet) and thought it had to be about the topic I was writing on. Your rules said to play in my sandbox, even said I could talk about myself and leave it up for friends to read. That is all I did. No book is going to say I am the last living relation of the 3 people in your photo until mine comes out. Then you will see many photos of these 3 at the same age as in the photo you question the validity of, and finally, you'll see that I wrote the book,& in my preface I say it's because I am the last one left in the family to do so. Put all together it will amply prove to you that you are wrong on this count. After the book sells , encyclopedias will begin to take notice of my grandpaprents and only then will they be in them. There are no photos of these three people in the public domain otherwise, for anyone else to use, so no one ever could put their photos in an encyclopedia. It will start either by asking my permission or if i am dead, my publisher's or my minor child's after she's of age, or it will start 70 years after my death. Because it is not encyclopediac content I was just using it in my sandbox as I learned to use Wikipedia; a fly-rod collector offered to help me get Grandpa in Wikipedia but I spent the last 14 months on chemotherapy and the 14 before that burying my parents and moving to their house with no money so taking 3 boxes a car load for many many months. (Different county far away). I also don't drive as I have a defibrillator in my chest. But this is why I never got back to Wikipedia to learn how to use it,although I use it myself for all references I wonder about, such as my late relative who invented the Browning Machine gun and his father, whose diary I have. (I am not allowed to use encyclopedias as sources in my history so am using the diaries of Jonathan Browning, Paul H Young, and Martha M Young as source material at times.) if your writers are allowed to quote history books then you will find much of my material on your site, actually-it is the only book ever written about the famed rod-builder & his wife & sons. And it is so comprehensive--not one thing ever published about my grandparents has been left out--that no one will ever be able to write another book about him without saying what my book already says-there is no new material, I've got it all. This I can guarentee you.( Grandma was sent every newspaper and magazine and book she or her honey were mentioned in and saved them all for me, their designated biographer). The picture is for anyone's use but few will want to, and the words are my sandbox words which your rules say to mess around in, tell about me in if I want to and then invite my friends to read it. I fail to see where I have done one thing wrong.I am in my father's house now, in his bedroom, on his bed, as they are all mine, now, and if my computer worked I'd send you a copy of the will, etc. but I am a poor person right now and can't get my computer repaired until Sept 10 if then. Ask me what more proof you want--I wrote an article about Grandpa for Trout Unlimited's 50th anniversary which the editors put by my byline, "by his granddaughter Deanne Young", an article incidentally which has the picture of my grandmother you see in the photo of 3 people turning into trees and fish before I altered it to make the photo you question, at link titlehttp://www.paulyoungtu.org/index.php/history-of-paul-holden-young It is not orphaned but links to my "lovehere" user page --I can see the photos there now. Perhaps someone deleleted my new account 'Deanne Young' then declared the photos ( that I was learning how to post there to remake"love here") that had been the only thing left there, orphaned, but they were already and first linked to my 'love here' account which after it was complained about4-5 years ago and I explained, was allowed to remain, photos and all. My new account had cleaned up all that you bosses had found wrong with 'LOVE HERE; but I can't find it anymore. I am trying very hard to learn to use this app so I can add entries and you give us this space to learn. And my photos are not orphans so pleae remove marks for removal due to being orphans. Thanks 75.249.190.70 (talk) 10:41, 27 August 2009 (UTC)i oe=rofdReply

AWB defaultsort abuse

edit

Please when making bulk edits with AWB and adding defaultsort, be careful how you add this. For example, DEFAULTSORT should not be used on any article that begins in a year. Many categories will only have articles title by year so are then sorted without the year in place, otherwise, all articles then appear sorted under 2, instead of the first word in the title, which is often the most appropriate.

And thanks for the extra work you'v egiven me to go back and undo all that stuff. --Falcadore (talk) 23:59, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I must say that I'm a bit disappointed in your deletion. I went through and checked every page of the Principia Discordia, and there really are no valid copyright notices in there. I wouldn't say there was no copyright notice if I hadn't looked for the evidence. I can't be expected to provide a hyperlink to every page I checked. I hope you'll reconsider and undelete the image. Best, IronGargoyle (talk) 15:03, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I understand the problem here; the original was published in '65 (which would give the Pre-78 claim merit). However, following the pattern of the other images (covers) that we have (File:Principayellow.jpg - 1979, File:PrincipiaDiscordia IllumiNetCover.png - 1991, File:Principiablack.jpg - 1994, File:Discordia roninpresscover.jpg - 2006) it looks like all of the scans that we have are of older versions; it doesn't look like there's anything that would prove that the page in question is from the pre-78 version. If you know of a way to somehow show that this was from the original version then I'd be happy to restore it with the {{PD-Pre1978}}! Skier Dude (talk) 20:50, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Can you also restore Category:Requests for biography A-Class review? Looks like I'll need that too. PC78 (talk) 20:27, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Gentle nudge in case this last request was overlooked. PC78 (talk) 10:14, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Help with rationale

edit

I'm working on a rationale for the 2001 child image and need some help, never done a detailed one like this before and want to make sure I'm going in the right direction. If you could take a look here and let me know if I'm headed the right way, I would really appreciate it! Thanks! Dreadstar 23:45, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dude...I'm...I'm...speechless...</Dreadstar palms forehead>...you mean, that's it? Oh, that's fantastic, I'm so glad I asked! I was writing a damned dissertation on the pic! ROTFL! Thanks man! Dreadstar 05:54, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

User:Twentysixpointtwo

edit

You may want to review your block of this user. They were reported by the author of the articles (who I have blocked) for removing personal information. Brandon (talk) 06:18, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

That might have been a bit confusing. User:4waldopepper created the two articles, User:Twentysixpointtwo came along and removed some of the personal information, 4waldopepper then reported them for "vandalism" and they got dumped into the AIV queue. 4waldopepper is actually the user at fault, I've blocked them and deleted the articles they created. Re: Your note regarding Dr. Steel (Album)

edit

If you would unlock it temporarily, I would be glad to make changes that are in line with the other album pages I have already done in relation to the main article. I have no idea what the content on that page was before, but the people at TSU are currently endeavoring to make these pages as objective (and in line with current Wikipedia practices) as we can - with accurate information about the band rather than more viral marketing nonsense - so most likely whatever was there before will be scrapped.

Thank you for your support. :)

I've made changes in the Sandbox you left me, it now conforms to the template of the other pages (which I copied from the previously accepted Abney Park albums). Any suggestions for further improvement are welcome. Thank you. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 04:26, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Question: Am I allowed to respond on the Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2009_August_28 page? S Marshall asked, "Question: Is the userfied version identical to the one that was speedied?" Answer: "No; although it is similar in many respects, I've made changes to the page to make it compliant with WikiProject Albums." (Although I honestly couldn't see what was objected to in the original content - other than that it was about Doctor Steel, knowing the longtime trouble that went on between Doctor Steel's fans and Wikipedia...)

Beg pardon, but it looks like the article(s) are about to get railroaded. Nick-D posted urging summary deletion, and apparently immediately locked the page so no response could be made in defense of the article, other than by admins. So I'm wondering if it is going to get a fair hearing at all.

He stated, "The article made no claims to any notability (it had no sources, claim that the album had been released by a major label, etc)" - beg pardon, but there are numerous sources in the main article. And none of the other bands considered steampunk (Abney Park, Vernian Process, Unextraordinary Gentelmen, etc.) are carried by major labels yet they have pages, so I fail to see what that has to do with it. And if being on Jay Leno, being mentioned by MTV as a significant example of the genre, being mentioned by Wired magazine, et. al., aren't claims to any notability then I fail to see what criteria of notability said mod would ever find acceptable. Certainly Dr. Steel has had more public notability than a lot of other bands that currently have accepted pages on Wikipedia.

He went on to say, "...and the past campaign of deliberate spamming (which, according to the above post, is continuing, albeit in a more subtle form) is a good reason to shoot these articles on sight." Granted, there was a 'past campaign' of deliberate spamming. Nostra culpa. However, the campaign was halted about a year ago, and they even had "cleanup crews" going through Wikipedia to find and eliminate any references that were put in, a sort of anti-spam campaign. This is a fresh effort, being worked on in coordination with Doctor Steel himself (rather than some fan-based spam effort), and we are more than willing to work with Wikipedia at this point to tailor the article and make it acceptable, just as his peer's pages are accepted now. However it now pretty much looks as if no amount of tailoring will ever be enough? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonnybgoode44 (talkcontribs) 01:41, 29 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

As demonstrated by my log, I didn't 'lock' the DRV. I merely commented to endorse the deletion. Nick-D (talk) 07:40, 29 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for removing the Capricorn One novel cover .jpg

Thanks for removing that. I uploaded it in the hope that it could become part of the page dealing with the film, but a query on the talk page, asking if it was suitable, elicited no response from the maintainers if any.Graham1973 (talk) 03:23, 29 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

How is the skiing this time of year? Any snow yet? You were always weclome at my former Piz Gloria residence... I've been convicted of my previous crimes against humanity and quest for world domination and have became a Buddhist monk in the Himalayas... Himalayan 21:17, 29 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Brecon Beacons in the snow

Hehe, well I thought you'd figure it out eventually, just incase their are any nasty deletions targeted as the late Dr. Blofeld any time soon.... The snow up in the Brecon Beacons is great fun in the winter, I used to go tobagganing up there in the Christmas holidays as a kid and was the most fun I've ever had! As for skiiing, nah you're better off going to the Alps! What I wouldn't give to have a Piz Gloria style winter chalet in the Swiss mountains.... Himalayan 21:33, 29 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Comments should be deleted?

edit

Hi! I think certain (racially biased) comments on Talk:Donald Boström are in violation of Wikipedia policies and should be deleted from the talk page - or some other action should be taken. I would be grateful if you can have a look at the talkpage. Best regards Ulner (talk) 10:12, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

cleaning up "old" non-free images

edit

hi Skier Dude, i just chose you randomly from the list of people involved in cleaning up non-free image deletions, because i'm still a novice at this aspect of wikipedia, having spent many hours initially thinking that certain images were copyright-valid (fair use in en.wikipedia only), then realising that they were not, and then spending many hours reading some of the commons/copyright related pages, and waiting for some email permissions (one which arrived, the other that did not) to upload some other images under GFDL+CC-BY-SA, one of which i did actually upload, since IMHO it is quite clearly copyright-valid. Anyway, i don't want to be paranoid about removing non-free images, but Category:Replaceable_non-free_use_to_be_decided_after_30_July_2009 lists two images that may have got lost in the standard processing queue, because of a certain user who deleted a tag associated with the deletion proposal procedure! It would be good if you could have a look and clean up whatever should be done in the procedure - i may have not seen all the steps to take. If you have a look at the uploader's talk page (old version) i think you'll see that the user has been posting non-free images for nearly two years. AFAIR, on another page, the user claimed that s/he is a lawyer, which makes it all the more difficult to understand why s/he doesn't understand the need for Wikipedia and WMF to be careful about avoiding any grounds for legal attacks. From the present version of the user's talk page, it looks like s/he has been indefinitely blocked, for reasons unrelated to image uploading. Boud (talk) 21:42, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Quick reaction! :) A related image uploaded by that user is file:Roberto micheletti.jpg, but since there's been quite a bit of controversy and many people working on the Roberto Micheletti page, i put new warning tags, so that we're not yet past the deletion deadline (which is 6 September). This gives people working on the page a chance to find an alternative image, maybe before the present one gets deleted. As you'll see on the discussion page of either of these (follow the links), at least one person involved in the article has (or at least claims to have, but i have no reason to doubt that) close contacts with Micheletti's brother and should reasonably be able to obtain a free image (assuming the family of Micheletti, or he himself, agree with a free copyright, and that the wikipedian makes the efforts to do the licensing properly). Which makes any fair-use rationale (inability to provide a free image of a living person) all the more non-credible. Anyway, i thought this was more reasonable than restoring the original deletion deadline. Having the warning moderately prominent below the photo on the Roberto Micheletti page until 6 September may also educate people editing/reading about the need to be careful with licensing issues.
