Mouse and the Traps

edit

I came across the article on "Mouse (musician)". I'm a bit confused. Is the intended focus of the article on Weiss or the band? The current name had to go as article titles do not take quotation marks. Since it appeared to be on the member from the text of the first paragraph, I moved it to Ronnie Weiss. If you want to distinguish his nickname Mouse, so that others find it, you can add and approporiate entry at Mouse (disambiguation), and possibly, separately, make a redirect to Mouse (musician), although that is really not a likely search term so it may not be useful. Or if you want to make the article simply on the band, move the article to Mouse and the Traps (your account needs to be four days old before you can move an article). Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit 14:12, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:PebblesBox-Cover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:PebblesBox-Cover.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:19, 26 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ↔NMajdantalk 14:19, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:PebblesBox-Cover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:PebblesBox-Cover.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ↔NMajdantalk 14:19, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your response. Yes, unfortunately, fair use images need a detailed fair use rationale with them for each article they are used in (see Image:OU-Logo.PNG for an example of a fair use image used in multiple articles). If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me or you can go to Media copyright questions.↔NMajdantalk 20:08, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Gonn-SingleCover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Gonn-SingleCover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Image:Milan-45-single-label.jpg listed for deletion

edit

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Milan-45-single-label.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Cumulus Clouds (talk) 05:40, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • NFCC is Wikipedia's Criteria for Nonfree Content. That criteria stipulates that articles should have as few nonfree images as possible or, if possible, only free images. Since the article for the single already has 1 nonfree image, a second image of what is essentially the same thing, is unnecessary and thereby fails the NFCC. In addition, you've been adding a great deal of unsourced original research to the article for the single and this is unacceptable under the guidelines for original research. Your personal investigations into the price of the single or how widely regarded it is are unacceptable for inclusion in the article. Thanks, Cumulus Clouds (talk) 17:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Yyy-fever-to-tell-cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Linda Ronstadt

edit

I noticed that you had some disagreements with the Linda Ronstadt article awhile back. I'm trying to clear the issue that the article might sometimes be a little opinionated. So I put an NPOV tag on the article so it could be changed. Take this paragraph for example:

"Ronstadt also developed a knack for picking good songs, finding obscure songs, and shining a light on up and coming songwriters. In many instances, her own interpretations were more successful than the original recordings and many times new songwriters were discovered by a larger audience as a result of Ronstadt interpreting and recording their songs. Interestingly, Ronstadt had major success interpreting songs from a diverse spectrum of artists. This skill would eventually serve her later in her career, as a noted master song interpreter."

I also found that some sections of the article are misplaced. For example, the "vocal styles" and "influences" sections should go under one unified "artistry" section. Do you agree with me? I tried to fix the page up a little, but user:Sharkentile reverted my edits and left me nasty comments on talk page where I made a discussion about it. What do you think about the article's neutrality/misplaced writing style? Dottiewest1fan (talk) 20:41, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for agreeing with me. Linda Ronstadt is an awesome vocalist and is one my favorites for sure. The quote I mentioned is very unsatisfying because it shows that this article has been able to get away with such fancruft for years. It's not to say there aren't plenty of excellent sources for the article, but the writing style could be done in such a way that is partisan. I hate that this is going on, and I spoke to an administrator of at least keeping the NPOV dispute tag on the page so that this problem could be noticed, instead of dissolved. Thank you for you insight =) Dottiewest1fan (talk) 20:12, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Craig-Moore-RRHF.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Craig-Moore-RRHF.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Angus McLellan (Talk) 21:27, 17 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Proposed deletion of Pebbles, Volume 28

The article Pebbles, Volume 28 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unremarkable and no references

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Digitalis

edit

Hi. I've amended your recent changes to Digitalis purpurea. I believe the heart drug(s) are known as digoxin, though I used to think it was 'digitalin'. I've amended your changes therefore to point at the digoxin article. I've also changed the 'best known' bit of your statement to 'well known', since the plant is arguably better known, in Britain and Europe anyway, as a common ornamental garden and wild plant. Thanks. Imc (talk) 16:08, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

In relation to the question of where the digitalis (medicine) redirect should point to, I think it ought to point to digoxin since it is the primary medicine article. Now that you have raised the topic, it seems that the Digitalis article has two main subjects, one being the plant, the other the drug /toxin. The latter content overlaps the digoxin content. Thus there is an argument to have just a summary about the drug at the Digitalis article, with all substantial content at the drug article. Imc (talk) 20:09, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

On Emoticon, you recently added a fact with a citation. I thought you should know that Everything2 does not meet the reliable source guideline because it is basically a wiki. Images

edit

Hi, I noticed you are able to get many images for albums. I have created quite a few album articles, but am afraid to upload images and get the copyright wrong. Since what I mainly work on (60s psychedelic and garage rock) appears to be of interest to you, I was wondering if I could make some requests for images in the near future that you could possibly obtain? Apologies if I'm being a nuisance, I'll leave you to your work if this was a bother. However, if you are willing, please respond on my talk page at your convenience. Thank you.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 09:23, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot for the advice, I think that is more than enough to finally get the images uploaded correctly. I glanced at the website you also mentioned, but I want to really search through it for possibly article opportunities and, of course, just plain interest. I really appreciate the articles you did create when you were more active here. The Human Expression, for example, is one of my favorite garage rock bands of the era, and the album article attached to it actually motivated me to go out and find the CD. So, again, your work is appreciated.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 18:40, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
P. S. I'm not sure if this will convince you, but would really hope you get back to creating articles on wiki. I know you probably don't get much credit for your work, and I think you should know I appreciate it. There is another user called Garagepunk66 who you would have so much to talk about with, as well. Anyways, my point is that reviving those old, forgotten bands like I'm trying to do, and you already have success in doing, is important and people, even my age, are still intrigued by the music.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 03:34, 19 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
That is confusing, especially with some of the Pebbles album's being deleted. I've made articles that are similar to the obscurity of Milan the Leather Boy, but I haven't had to worry about them being deleted as of yet. I guess I'm just lucky so far. Still, I hope you reconsider and start to be more active again, there just does not seem to be many users interested in this kind of music anymore.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 16:58, 19 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
By the way, I should credit you for an article I made a day ago after looking through your website. It was about the Magicians and it completes the original Nuggets track list. I would not have considered writing it if I did not see them on your website so thanks for that.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 16:56, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Kind MAS (as in momentary article stalker)

edit

Hi there SB, from Portugal,

the other day I was listening to Grease's soundtrack (I edit mainly in soccer), and decided to take a peek at this article, Cidny Bullens. Could you, seeing as I cannot without an account, change the article name ("Cindy" not "Cidny")?

Thanks, happy editing --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:59, 23 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • That's what happens when you don't read an article thoroughly, shame on me :( I never reached the PERSONAL LIFE part, so I knew nothing of the sex operation part (thus the name change). Knowing this, the title is of course quite a propos.

I had an account for several years (have been here for almost nine overall), AlwaysLearning, but asked that it be vanished after a serious run-in with a troll. I had the intention of leaving forever, but guess I cannot, am "wiki-hooked"...

Sincerely --84.90.219.128 (talk) 16:21, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of English Freakbeat, Volume 3

edit

The article English Freakbeat, Volume 3 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non-notable album - Standard searches do not reveal enough significant coverage in independent reliable sources

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

-- 1Wiki8Q5G7FviTHBac3dx8HhdNYwDVstR (talk) 09:15, 10 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Take a look at the garage rock article!

edit

Shocking Blue, I've noticed some of the terrific articles you've started up, such as the Outcasts. I've made some extensions to the Garage rock article. I think you'll like it a lot. By the way the article now mentions the Outcasts in the Texas regional section. Garagepunk66 (talk) 03:59, 11 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Shocking Blue thanks for commending the Magicians article, it means a lot coming from the user who single-handily put the Pebbles series on Wikipedia (by the way I recreated the articles deletionists got to). I made several other articles on garage rock artists, hopefully you would enjoy. I still hold out hope you'll be more active and maybe we can work together on some articles. Get back in the game?

edit

I've read almost all your articles (Mouse and the Traps his probably my favorite) and I was wondering if you ever planned to start writing again. We're missing a quality creator in my opinion and it would be huge in our efforts to expand the awareness of 60s music. If you a short of article ideas, I still have a dozen or so bands to get you back in the game. I know wikipedia "know-it-alls" are sometimes joy-killers but people like me support what you did and still can do.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 01:02, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I still keep a toe in every now and then, and I might get back into Wikipedia at another time. I am now involved in a different project of my own: writing up articles on what I call under-appreciated rock bands that don't yet have a Wikipedia article (and probably wouldn't qualify in many cases). I have been writing up long music articles on my Facebook page for some time now, and I also have a website that lays everything out through the third quarter of 2013. Check it out if you are interested; the Facebook page is at [1], and the website is at [2]. The website in particular has gotten really gargantuan (I am closing in on 4,000 webpages), and I have yet to find a good place for it. All my best, and I hope you can hang in there. I agree that there is a need for good writing and editing; it seems like a third or more of the Wikipedia articles on rock bands that I visit have a big note saying that the article needs this or that. It is good hearing from you. Shocking Blue (talk) 10:20, 20 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for not seeing your response sooner, I typically check back on talk pages to reply in a timely manner. I actually used your website in search of new music and bands to write about. You deserve credit for the articles Teddy and His Patches, the Magicians, and at least three others that slipped my mind right now. I know Garagepunk also was inspired to write Bohemian Vendetta because of the website as well. It's so in-depth though that I still have not been able to get through all the pages which is incredibly impressive. I'll make sure to leave a few article ideas on the table for whenever you do write on Wikipedia again. There's almost an infinite amount of topics so I'll probably be going at this for years to come. It's nice chatting with a friendly user as well, they are sometimes hard to find on here.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 00:17, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Great to hear from you, and thank you for your compliments. I don't remember saying anything about Teddy and His Patches, so I am not sure I deserve that credit. I still can't believe how long it took for someone to finally write about the Magicians! I sometimes get involved in something that turns out to be a lot larger than what I had expected, but it is hard for me to put the website down. Garagepunk told me that he got the idea to write up the article on Bohemian Vendetta. What had frustrated me so much is that some of my articles began disappearing, particularly the Pebbles articles that I had put so much time into – even Pebbles, Volume 2 was deleted, and that one has what is probably my very favorite song of all time, "Green Fuz". The Pebbles box sets were a particular nightmare, trying to compare those volumes with the original LP's, and the CD box with the LP box – I didn't think I would ever get to the end of it. BTW, Bomp now has the LP box back in those absolutely stunning starburst vinyl records that they are selling now; have you seem those? Individual volumes can be purchased also. It is worth a trip to the Bomp website to see them. Shocking Blue (talk) 08:56, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Well Teddy and His Patches was a little indirect, but I got the idea after looking through Pebbles, Volume 3, which you wrote. I've been trying to defend the Pebbles series for some time from deletionists because in my opinion the albums are just as important as those found in the Nuggets series. The problem that I've found with some Wiki users is if they are not knowledgable in a certain field, take garage rock in this instance, they just assume it's not notable. I know a lot of them will throw "policy" in your face, but that "policy" misses the whole point of what garage rock is. I've been trying to complete my whole Pebbles series collection for some time so I'll need to check out the Bomp website. I only have the CD box so I'm sure the LP version is stunning.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 20:38, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I don't even know how many of the "Now That's What I Call Music" albums are on Wikipedia – the original series alone has 93 volumes, and each one has an article. I suppose those are automatically "notable" because they are filled with popular songs by major artists, but who cares? There are any number of ways of finding those songs besides Now. Not only did Pebbles introduce hundreds of songs whose very existence was unknown to virtually everyone, but these albums are still about the only way of finding most of them. I put a quote in a Pebbles article from Allmusic by Richie Unterberger (I believe it was) who said that the Pebbles albums had even more influence on the rise of 1970's punk rock than the original Nuggets album, but to no avail. Why doesn't anyone seem to get that this is "notable"? Once the sign goes up that the article is being considered for deletion, it doesn't seem like there is anything that can be done about it. The article I am proudest of is on Milan the Leather Boy; not even Greg Shaw got to the bottom of who he was. I fought the powers that be for months about that one; I finally was able to shut them down when I noted that he put out more than 30 recordings. Mike Stax got me to write an article about him for Ugly Things #34 a few years back. (I still haven't gotten around to updating the Wikipedia article since the UT article came out). I guess you could say that I won the battle but lost the war; ever since I have been leery of getting involved in a big way in Wikipedia again. A year or two back, I noticed that a lot of the contributions that I was putting into articles were being almost immediately reverted; that was pretty much the final straw. I even had one of my disambiguation entries deleted once. I don't want it to be that way, and I guess that I will eventually get over it; but to say that this has all left a bad taste in my mouth is an understatement. Shocking Blue (talk) 13:34, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I understand your disillusionment with how Wiki works, sometimes I wonder why I put up with some of the injustices. I was having fun, especially on my first few articles, but unfortunately I got a sour editor (who will remain unnamed to stay neutral) who targeted almost all I had worked on to that point. Nothing was deleted thankfully, but I had to put up a hell of a fight especially for Wimple Winch and the Toggery Five. I feel like I've been spared most of what you endure because I lie low on music articles and once in a while dip my toe into a major artist. I just hope you continue to stay around as you are doing. Honestly, if you came back to write your own material again, I feel it will be more secure because me and Garagepunk have gotten a bigger voice here when it comes to 60s music. We would back you up if any problems arise, you have my word.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 23:36, 25 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I didn't mean to get so wound up there, but I did want to mention some of my history with Wikipedia; I am sure that you have your own stories to tell. I too have tried to stay away from major artists and always hoped that "they" would leave my meager efforts alone. There is something in notability about people being notable if enough experts think they are, or something like that; maybe that is a way of attack. When I first got involved, I understood that anyone could edit Wikipedia articles; it took me a while to realize that editing included deleting. There should be a higher standard for deleting it seems to me; at the very least, only experienced Wikipedians should be able to do that. When I first got started, Wikipedia hadn't had a million articles for very long; there are now 5 million articles, with no end in sight. Maybe they can ease up on some of these restrictions. Anyway, you and Garagepunk both have gotten me interested in getting back in, and I am going to make plans to do that. I am still working full time, and my wife has a lot of health problems; and I still am trying to writing Under Appreciated Rock Band articles (though I am down to four per year rather than 12) and get the website finished up. But let me see if I can think of a new article. At the least, I will try next month to get the Milan article updated from what I had in the Ugly Things article; that at least will get be going! Shocking Blue (talk) 21:05, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's no problem, you have every right to get a little worked up. After working and putting a lot of time and effort into an article, it can be upsetting. Music is especially tricky to designate to an absolute notability guideline because older artists that were once forgotten have been revived overtime. To me, the fact that their music withstood the test of time, is something special and should be considered notable. I agree with you though, if an article had to be considered for deletion, it should be by experienced editors, and hopefully by those who don't have it "out" for the writer. Me and Garagepunk will be around for awhile so you'll always have friends here. Take your time coming back because it's obvious from what you told me that you have priorities that are much more important than anything Wikipedia could offer.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 02:17, 29 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for listening, you and Garagepunk both. It's great to know that there are new people on the '60's music side that really care! All my best. Shocking Blue (talk) 11:15, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Your edit to Ronald Reagan in music

edit

Hi Shocking Blue. Thanks for your recent edit to the article Ronald Reagan in music. I was wondering if you could provide a reference for the screening of "Two Tribes" during the 1984 Democratic National Convention. I searched for material on it but couldn't find anything online, and the article about the song makes no mention of it. Thanks in advance! Morganfitzp (talk) 04:37, 25 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Morganfitzp, for your comment. I took out the reference. Sounds cool all right, and I found a dozen or two references to it on the Internet; but apparently, they all came from the Wikipedia article (typically word for word). The fact is, much 1980's items simply have not made it to the web, or if they did, the websites where they formerly resided are gone. Shocking Blue (talk) 17:14, 25 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
Cool. If you find a citation for it, I'd love to read it. And PS: I'm a big fan of the Dutch band that share your username! Morganfitzp (talk) 20:40, 25 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
Update: Just found a ref for it. Just added to article. Morganfitzp (talk) 15:25, 26 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
