It's a long story

This ska-lord guy is a sock puppet who speaks english very poorly (I'm guessing its his second language). I reported him on Saturday for sockpuppetry, and I was told he would be dealt with on monday. When I left a message about this on his talk page he freaked out and it resulted in the message in question on my talk page.

I see you've dealth with him before as well. My best advice is to just ignore whatever he says to you, as I don't think he fully understands what you say to him. He was blocked previously in this sockpuppetry case and can't seem to comprehend that he is no longer welcome to edit here.Hoponpop69 01:20, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

As a non-admin there is not much I can do. Right now I'm talking with an admin who has blocked his various accounts and locked up the articles he edits in hopes that he'll eventually lose interest.[1] Unfortunately he's only giving him a block that expires. You might want to read this conversation I had with an admin.[2] As I said in the conversation I am on the verge of leaving wikipedia because of this. If you would like to bring this problem to the attention of more admins I'd appreciate. COSMOgirl!

I swear to you that when the title is typed the GIRL is capitalized. I realize that it's the reverse of the logo, but there are countless instances of this on their website and if you want I will find every single one of them and leave them here for you do view. Do a search on the site yourself and you'll see how often it comes up. I am absolutely honoured and in awe of the courtesy provided to correct a wikipedia article. If you are around, then I shall ask some questions directly, such as, why is the spelling inconsistent to begin with? The actual logo of the magazine does not correspond to the instances mentioned...I have an eager curiosity :)

I am actually not sure what the "official" reason is, but if I had to guess I'd say it's because we are an off-shoot of Cosmopolitan magazine. When they shorten that mag's name it's Cosmo, not COSMO so I guess they wanted some consistency there. The reason it's on the cover capitalized is that it's a vanity spelling (check out the Cosmo logo which is spelled in all caps) so new readers will identify the connection between the two brands.

Another fun fact, when the name of the mag is shortened we always have the ! (CG!) in there so it doesn't get confused with CoverGirl.

Code Lyoko

I noticed you've made lots of edits to these pages and their related pages. I've added a few {{story}} tags on some articles because, for someone who has never seen the show and has no knowledge of it, the articles can sometimes makes little sense. I understand, but perhaps you're not considering the facts that got us to the point of arbitration. The many articles made by editors like myself have been deleted unjustly. I felt that arbitration was asked for because it was upsetting myself and many others who had their work unjustly destroyed. We worked hard on our articles and give lots of thought into them. And just to have them deleted isn't right, at all. But you're right. Swearing is just plain ignorant. That's what I'm sorry about. I stand on the fact that having articles deleted is wrong, and he has no right to do it, ever. Yes, my frustrations have clearly shown through, but somebody had to take a stand on this particular issue. I wish that things were worked out in a more civil way, and I feel I've tried to do that. However, TTN and Ned Scott are still deleting my work and others' work unjustly. It's just not right! I wonder how they would feel if they spent hours of time working on a piece and having their work be destroyed with a push of a button, without ANY consideration on the part of the person(s) who SPENT their time writing it. It's easy to surf through articles, read them, delete them, redirect them, anyone can do that, but a true editor, a TRUE writer, doesn't do these things. THAT is my frustration, THAT is many other persons' frustrations, and possibly this is what is not coming through in the banterings back-and-forth; it's coming across as personal attacks, and it's not. It's just the issue of them deleting and redirecting our works.

You are basically insulting the editors you "apologize" to, and when you claim things which you turn around and ignore. We are by no means trying to force you to do think or do anything you don't want to. We are only trying to get you to understand where we are coming from, and what our opinions are based on. If you never plan on doing something, then don't claim you will. That just insults people's intelligences. Ah hello! Thank-you for responding. I'm having problems with my email tonight :S. It's a really simple request. When I first joined wiki, I linked one of my user boxes to my last.fm account name, however there is some personal information on my profile, revealing my name, age and location. This is fine on that site but I would rather not link the two since editing wiki can make you the target of vandals. My request is simply that the revision where I added my account name to the user box, be deleted/hidden? Did that make any sense at all :S ?

It had been tagged as free although the summary said it had copyright. AfD Request

Hello there. I don't normally go to the AfD page, but got there because I noticed that the Harry Potter Comparision page I was reading was there. I think that your repeated use of short links to Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions is slightly offensive and disruptive - I'm aware that the essay points out how "it's useful" is not a good reason to keep something. However, the same essay also points out that just saying "violates WP:OR" is not a valid reason to delete. If you are going to continually comment, you should do both. I can also find an essay that says you shouldn't respond to every single post with the same comment - if you actually want me to find the reference, let me know. I was tempted to use your exact language after everyone who said "Delete, WP:OR", but I figured that would be disrupting Wikipedia to make a point.

Oh - and also - your UserPage right now isn't readable - the photos cover up the userboxes. Thought you might want to know.

Hi! Thanks for your message. Perhaps I am sometimes unaware of my own naïveté, but my posts of the link were not intended to be disruptive at all. I simply aimed to highlight that the arguments weren't very good ones and were all based on the same, in my belief, fallacious principle. I just dislike the "useful" argument and it seemed to crop up a lot. If you would like to propose a discussion or make an argument in return to a vote/reason, you are perfectly entitled to do so (although I'm not advocating discussion erring on a point type thing, though I'm sure you are more capable of expressing yourself in an eloquent way...unlike myself *d'oh*).

I sincerely apologise for those posts because I have misconveyed my intention. I shall also make an apology on the talk page so that everyone else will be aware that they were good faith edits.

Also, thank-you for alerting me to how my userpage looks. I use firefox, which must render my page differently to how other browsers view it. Foolishly (or perhaps due to my dislike) I had not checked how it would look in IE. :-)

What Browser

I was using Firefox 2.0 when I posted that, but on a 15 inch monitor which may be the difference. The images overlapped with the userboxes and were overlaid on top of them, covering about half. On this 17" monitor, again Firefox 2.0, the images appear (right now) to the right of the userboxes. Thank you for your comments on my talk page, I really appreciate them. User:Dissectional

Hey, I saw the message you left Dissectional on his/her talk page. I actually didn't even think that the IP and the user could possibly be connected. Good job on the little investigation. :) Would that count as a sock puppetry case, even if it's an IP address? If the IP and the user are the same person (I'm not saying they are, I'm just saying "if"), then the user is definitely trying to "give the impression of more support for a viewpoint," which is mentionned on WP:SOCK. At some point, the IP user said "i fell there has been more said to remove nu metal," which could be a little hint. What should we do if both users display more common points? Should we report this to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets, if this continues? Anyways, keep me updated on any new info concerning those users. Thanks in advance! The IP was definitely Dissectional as the recent attack re-post on the SOAD talk page shows. To be honest, I'm not a fan of Dissectional because they're kinda disruptive. I'd say make a SSP report...

Hmm all good points. I think building up a stronger case is a good idea, although I'm pretty sure that right now, there is enough hints, such as editing patterns and style of talking e.g Dissectional says "Ill" in place of "I'll" and so does the IP. We can handle his edits for now... Thoughts?

Yes, I think we should wait a little longer as well. I have another style pattern for you. Both the IP and the user do not capitalize their "I" when they refer to themselves. This can be seen here for the IP and here for the user. The user claims to come from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as can be seen on his talk page, and you have reported the IP as coming from the same location. So far we have three unquestionable common points, not counting the behavior and the point of view regarding the band's genre and the article's infobox. I think we should wait a little longer. However, if the editor in question comes to read this discussion, he may change his way of editing and start, for example, to capitalize his "I" and to use apostrophes. That's quite true, although wouldn't that action look a bit peculiar in itself and look like another hint? A personal grievance I have is the re-post of Revan ltrl's message by both IP and Dissectional; it's like abuse! He's attacking people using someone else's words and he thinks that is acceptable, simply because the words aren't his. He says, "he may be a little rude", then he says, "his answers are correct". It's like saying "My mum thinks you smell...it's a bit rude but I agree with her".

Hahaha, yes that's exactly so. I like to assume good faith, so I didn't take it as a personal attack, but I do think that they are indirectly attacking me. I don't particularly care about that, but I'm more worried about the stability of the article (which was obtained through consensus and lots of compromises). Actually, you bring up an important point: Both the user and the IP have copied and re-posted User:Revan ltrl's message! First on my talk page (Dissectional) and on the SoaD talk page (IP). Both are against nu metal being associated with SoaD, both do not use apostrophes in words such as "I'll" or "Here's", both do not capitalize their "I", both come from Toronto, and both have copied the same message and expressed how they agreed with it. Easily! :). I would have found it difficult to stay cool if I had been on the other end of that bashing.

I also think that the editors at that page have done a very good job to build consensus. If it looks like nu-metal, smells like nu-metal, walks like nu-metal and gets labelled nu-metal by multiple reliable third party sources; it's probably nu-metal :P. Despite my inital inclination, that's what I've come to accept. It's not like there has even been a reasonable or rational discussion to dispute the nu-metal claims! The people who oppose it can't really argue the sources and that's what Dissectional wants to do...using IP's to back him up... Oh well... we've certainly got a lot of hints already....

Agreed. I don't think the user is being completly honest with us on that point. Dissectional has had no problem with logging in since July 14th, the date of his first contribution. It was on July 26 that he started to use the IP address, but he didn't stop editing with his account until August 17, just before you sent him that message (and I think he actually read it). As for the "nu metal survey", Dissectional removed the poll with his account after seeing that a poll was not a good idea, but nevertheless pushed the idea further with his IP, claiming that "this poll will reinforce the answer".
