Dutch courage

Here's some Dutch courage for you!

Can I tempt you to blue link Template:Neighborhoods of Amsterdam? Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:17, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Excellent, thanks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:02, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I will start. I see you have nice friend in Moreno also.Starzynka (talk) 14:19, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Haha, I love it--you make a redlink in the article, and next thing I know you've made the category. Do you care to see what you can add to/fix at KNSM Island and Eastern Docklands? Thanks, Drmies (talk) 19:40, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nice work. I have a request. Can you create all of the categories in User:Dr. Blofeld/Launch Pad 1 and add a popcat to them after creation. Next fun game is to find articles to fill them.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:58, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK great thanks. I've done Category:Hotels established in 1927 anyway. If you could also help populate them all this would be great. In the search just type Hotel 1880 etc. It should catch the most important ones.. There is also like to be some in architecture by year and establishement by year which will need recatting to become Hiotels established in . Whatever is easiest for you... The talk pages also need AWB tagging for WP:Hotels! Actually its TourismProject|hotel=yes|class=category|importance=na I think,...I'll continue whereever you leave off later tonight tomorrow, Regards.

Great I think I can manage 1880 and 1881 before I retire for the evening.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:42, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that, I'll begin adding cats today. Dr. Blofeld White cat 08:18, 19 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

User:Dr. Blofeld/Launch Pad 1 Some more! Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:46, 19 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nice one. If I can't find a hotel for the given year I'll start an article! Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:33, 19 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just occurred to me we could also have a Hotels by year of disestablishment. Don't worry though about starting all the categories. If somebody really wants to have them they'll add them I'm sure. The odd few which have articles though could be started... Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:24, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I didn't see it, nope. I don't usually check up on people! Looks yummy, nice green color! I'm having a quiet day today... Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:34, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I have an AWB removal task I need done. Can you do this to all of the articles on the populated places category for Sao Tome. Basically remove the "Other" header and the unreferenced sentence about GDP. Some articles don't have the GDP sentence but have the "other" header which will need removing. Thanks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:37, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:56, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've made a D.C. map. Check out the White House and National Gallery of Art. OK If I add it to the museum infoboxes? I can make a more central or wider map of further north if you want it. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:15, 26 May 2010 (UTC) I think I'll make a few more maps. A smaller scale central one and one which is centred further north. I gather than the centre of DC is really the Presidential area? Also any preference on the pin type. DO you prefer a simple dot pin without label or an icon and label. Compare the two and let me know. Previously I was always for a label but in testing the White House one I think Tony has a point and the map looks cleaner. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:24, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree. I've made Template:Location map United States Washington, D.C. central. What did you want done to the original move further north, east west ? Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:39, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Scale don't work like that! Its either the scale I uploaded or the next one out which ended up being Template:Location map United States District of Columbia street. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:58, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes that's why I didn't replace it... There are some flaws to OSM. Its also uneven so I can't even make city maps of Lhasa and Thimphu as they have barely started to be drawn. I also think they could reduce the amount of pink and orange and make them a little more professional looking. Remember I did request long ago that Jimbo Wales sets up a proper wiki mapping project with high quality maps that can be made of anywhere... Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:12, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

You have a photo of National Museum of African American History and Culture? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:43, 26 May 2010 (UTC) Est. 2003, built in 2012, how bizarre. I've added a map to National Museum of American Jewish Military History but the coordinates are wrong. I can't seem to find them anywhere. Could you give an indicator of where it is? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:50, 26 May 2010 (UTC) Don't worry I got it here. Its not central. I'll have to figure it out from Dupont Circle! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:52, 26 May 2010 (UTC) There's something I very much like about D.C.. Love the look of the buildings. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:14, 26 May 2010 (UTC) Yeah, something went wrong with that. Its showing west for some reason. I'll fix it shortly... Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:36, 26 May 2010 (UTC) Try Anacostia Museum. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:40, 26 May 2010 (UTC) See it again. Better? Should work now. Up to you what map you want to use. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:50, 26 May 2010 (UTC) Yeah its better to see where it is in overall context. For central areas though the other maps are best I think. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:59, 26 May 2010 (UTC) I made two maps of Alexandria, see Carlyle House. The problem is that the map needs to be larger at default to view. You can use either the Alexandria Historic District map or the Alexandria one. Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:25, 26 May 2010 (UTC) Thanks for the Awbing. Well its not just Alexandria but as it is close to DC you may want to use the maps in articles so I made them. Eventually I want most places to have their own pins to display buildings on. I just think that the Virginia map is just too large a scale to use for buildings within cities. Really the localised city maps need windos in the corner for international viewers.. So I could reproduce that Alexandria map with a dot map showing Alexandria in Virginia in the corner? I just wish we had zoomable maps so you can zoom in at whatever level and see where it is. Flora Mirabilis

edit

Greetings. I see that you created the page for Cleofonte Campanini. This conductor was the first to conduct Spiro Samara's opera "Flora Mirabilis", and the full orchestra core of this work cannot be found (although the work has been printed -including the set of parts)

I am guessing that there is a chance for Campanini to have had his own copy of the material. As I read in your article, he was mostly active in Chicago, where he lived until death. Would you happen to know if his personal library was donated to an institution in Chicago or something? Any information you might have on Samara could prove useful.

Many thanks in advance, Byron Fidetzis, director of the Athens State Orchestra

Thanks for the work on Scott D. Sampson. I saw a request go by (Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Scott D. Curious, what's the translation of the Latin passage? I'm guessing that it refers to something that happened on 1 September AD 1299. Nyttend (talk) 23:27, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the reply. Now I'm curious — what's the opera? Gianni Schicchi? Nyttend (talk) 03:11, 28 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I guessed, simply because it came up when I searched for your username in the article namespace. I've never heard of it before, let alone watched it; the only opera I've ever attended live was one composed by someone in my college class as her senior project. Never heard Falstaff either, although I've heard of it; on the other hand, I've heard recordings of Figaro and of all the other Mozart operas. Nyttend (talk) 03:31, 28 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi I have another request. First of all browse through the municipalities of the Goriška statistical region, the first one and Brda etc need tagging for WP:Slovenia probably most of the others do too. Kaktus isn't a fan of the regional maps. So don't worry about switching, just talk pages then. I'm just trying to provde a better alternative. Soom enough OPen Street Map will be zoomable within wikipedia itself so I won't need to bother with pin maps. Perhaps I should bare that in mind and get on with writing articles... I'm impatient though and it should never have been this long to wait for zoomable mapping options on wikipedia. See this on the right. Soon enough I want that OSM map box within our infoboxes.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:11, 28 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, have a nice break! Dr. Blofeld White cat 07:26, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Who is the most arrogant person in the public eye you can think of? I can think of many obivously but it has to be Jose Mourinho. He names himself "The Special One". Says it all really.... Mentions him being extremely arrogant here too. Most arrogant woman has to be either Paris Hilton, J-lo or Madonna. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:26, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welcome back. So the above question still stands... Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:47, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Away for the bank holiday weekend eh? Yeah I know what you mean about Kanye West. I know that Eddie Murphy is very arrogant too. Mourinho defines the word arrogant in my view. He isn't obnoxious like Kanye, he's just full of himself and thinks he is better than everybody else. The way he prances around in his Armani suits with the smarmy look on his face. I know that Steven Seagal and Yngwie Malmsteen are also extremely arrogant. Malmsteen is the definition of a douche bag I think.

Yeah, same with Seagal who is supposed to break the wrists of stuntmen and injure them on purpose. He broke Sean Connery's wrist in Never Say Never Again. Most arrogant television presenters though. Mmm. American, probably Letterman. British? Probably Jeremy Paxman. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:03, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Don't know her, but she looks as if she has a got a nasty mouth on her. Yeah Letterman. I actually quite like most presenters I've seen in the states, even if they are sometimes a little grating and plastic looking like those E! news presenters who come across as brainwashed robots. But there is just something deeply unpleasant and mocking about Letterman that gets to me and the way he looks away and down when talking to his guests.

Yeah, that's exactly the impression I get from him in most interviews actually. I don't know if you've seen the Aishwarya Rai interview but he came across badly. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:23, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

How on earth is Chano Lobato missing? Flamenco singing legend. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:39, 4 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Saw the ex today as she came by to pick up her stuff. I mentioned to her that I was going to push back from Wikipedia but didn't really elaborate. Normally, she's all "I don't care about that" and "you're always with your little friends" because I do charity work. Well, usually she doesn't care either when I tell her what articles I like or have created but she remembered you because she said, "What happened to your Italian friend and that guy named Bubba?" I tell you, she could drive me to drink cheap gin - which isn't a bad idea now that I think about it. Women! Thank God I didn't mention Blofied. That name would really have stuck with her as we like the original Bond series. Although, the Jaime Oso series is pretty bearable! ;) ----moreno oso (talk) 21:23, 6 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

World Cup

edit

Must admit the World Cup has been exceedingly dull so far. The only good match I've seen so far has really been the Mexico and France game the other night. The England Algeria game earlier was probably one of the dullest matches I've ever seen in my life. 0-0. Embarrasing performance. PLayers like Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney are so hyped but if you'd watched the game tonight they looked little better than street kids. The could barely do anything convincing beyond their own half and lost the ball a zillion times. Frustrating more than anything.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:02, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I watch most games of England when on TV and 95% of the time I wonder why they get paid so much.... England generally under perform in national games. The players all play very well at club level but when it comes to the crunch they can rarely put something decent together. Occasionally when they are seriously forced to do something like to stay in a competition they pull something off but generally most performances are very bland. Argentina, Mexico and Brazil ar by far the most entertaining to watch. They have more of a passion in Latin America. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:15, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, it is some consolation that France and Germany are not playing well either. Most of the Algerian team are French and born to Algerian immigrant parents...At least the Mexico French game was entertaining though. The world cup is supposed to showcase the world's best players though and 95% of the tournament so far has been very mediocre.I've seen better games from teams in the Vauxhall Conference. They are under pressure though but if they are natural footballers they should be playing better than they did. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:26, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I quite like basketball actually. They never show basketball or baseball in the UK but when I've been to the states I've enjoyed watching both. Its American Football I just don't get... What I don't get though is why colleges are such a big deal in American football and basketball. Most of the UK athletes and sportspeople have never sene a college in their life.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:00, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
With the exception of the NBA finals, I think I can answer that question. College is in alot of ways like soccer. Semi-pros playing at their best or highest until they go onto the pros. Now, get me my martini. And make no sudden moves. My barreta is packin'. ----moreno oso (talk) 22:05, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

South Africa

HI. Can you use AWB to copy and paste the infobox in De Waterkant into the rest of the suburb articles? I've done the first two. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:17, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Could you copy the infobox here and paste it into all of the articles in the category which don't have one? You'll have to be careful though as some of the articles already have infoboxes. If you could find a way of by-passing those which have infoboxes already this would be great. Actually if you get this done for the other South African provinces too they will all be in a good position for South African wikipedians to fill out. South African places have long been on my to do list. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:06, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

See Category:Populated places in South Africa. Theres only a few provinces. This would be a great help. If you are doing more than one province though remember to change the province name before starting. You'll find most of the places do not have infoboxes but try toi skip the ones which do already. Thanks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:24, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Its pathetic. Look at the size of New Guinea. Now look at Category:Populated places in Papua. I think I'm going to populate this category a little. There are at least ten major settlements on my world atlas not covered in western New Guinea. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:07, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Actually the coverage of PNG is much better than Western New Guinea (Indonesia). If you weigh up Category:Populated places in Papua New Guinea to western New Guinea PNG has about ten times the coverage. Still poor but Western Papua is practically empty. If you consider that Western New Guinea is about 450,000 square kilometres, 5 settlements is beyond a joke. Right that will be my area of development focus for the next few weeks, eastern Indonesia. Stubs like Sailolof are a start... Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:20, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The whole of New Guinea is. Even like Lae one of PNG's biggest cities is barely beyond a stub. Thanks for adding the infoboxes. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:31, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you add anymore infoboxes can you copy the paramters exactly from here. Somehow you changed the pushpin map 1 to an image map 1 meaning it requires a bit of work to sort out the maps rather than just simply being able to fill them out... Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:57, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Looking at google maps earlier for my West Papua stubs I was astounded just by how many rivers there are. There must be easily 500 in the West Papua river region alone. We have 31 articles for the entirety of Indonesia... Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:10, 23 June 2010 (UTC) Nope, there are so many I think Kmusser got scared. I've ask him to generate a list. If you look at West Papua on google satellite you'll spot like a hundred rivers in the south of the bird's head alone!! . One thing I spotted though was the amount of dutch Tropenmuseum images on rivers in the commons. Perhaps you could help me? Just go through the Rivers of Indonesia sub cats in the commons to find the rivers. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:19, 23 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've started List of rivers of East Timor. Most were found on German wiki either category or in tributary lists. Interested? Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:40, 23 June 2010 (UTC) Urrgh England were embarrassing again, 4-1. What a joke. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:14, 27 June 2010 (UTC) They take it way too seriously over here. But it just shows how bad the team really have been as they rarely fail to reach the last 16 and when they do it is usually going out on penalties or a narrow victory. But players like Wayne Rooney have this arrogance about them. Overrated for sure. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:37, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

See have read of http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jun/25/world-cup-2010-jurgen-klinsmann. With the benefit of hindsight the respect given the England team is unwarranted. And they compare Rooney with Kloser which after todays performance is laughable. Kloser was far superior. The premiership is good, but 90% of the players are foreign! Beckenbauer was right to slag off the team. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:42, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Coren bot is oversensitive to Stub classed articles

edit

Ser, are you around? If so, Coren bot is tagging Starnzyka's articles with copyvios when they are not. I have an appointment with my truck, which is winning an argument with me, that my mechanic is going to look at. It may be an all day affair and going to cost $800 minimum. Could you watch his talkpage and do what you can? The Bot seems to be angering him unnecessarily. I recommended shutdown on the Bot's talkpage. If you feel the same, could you follow up on its talkpage too? ----moreno oso (talk) 14:21, 25 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is another recommendation I have concerning Starnyka that he may be receptive to you on: a visitor to his talkpage might think he's an angry editor because his talkpage message is all in caps which indicates shouting. Language plays into this and he might not be aware of this. He's good contributor and seems to be misunderstood by other editors who CSD his articles and now a bot that has a hard-on for his Stubs. You're closer to his timezone - he's in Europe. Maybe you could do a copyedit and suggest the change to him for his talkpage? Please? ----moreno oso (talk) 15:34, 25 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of El Corte River

edit

A tag has been placed on El Corte River requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. I saw this when I saw you had made another massive set of changes to articles I have started, and thought of dropping you a "thanks" note. So my note is that I have recreated this article. Speedy deletion nomination of Agnieszka Gortel

edit

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Agnieszka Gortel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Active Banana (talk) 00:28, 30 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unassessed astronomy articles

edit

Greetings,

It looks like you recently added the WikiProject Astronomy template to the talk page of over 1,300 minor planet articles. If you are a member of that project, please could you perform an assessment on those articles? (My guess is that they are all stub articles of low importance.) The alternative would be to replace all the WP astronomy templates with {{WPSS}}.

I recently finished cleaning up the unassessed articles list and it took many weeks to finish 1,600 articles. (So perhaps you can see how much work you have just created?) If at all possible, I'd like to keep the list compact so that the new additions can be properly addressed. Thank you.—RJH (talk) 21:28, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Generally speaking, I mark talkpages as unassessed when creating them, as I'm not always a member of the relevant project. However, since I think it's safe to say these are stub articles, I'll go through and assess them as such, if you would prefer. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:31, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
If it can be scripted, that would be very helpful. I think they can also be given an importance of 'low', per the WPAstronomy importance criteria. I.e. {{WPAstronomy|class=stub|importance=low|object=yes}}. That would be good for a first cut, anyway. Thank you!—RJH (talk) 21:34, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sure and it's my pleasure - happy to help out. I have two small things to take care of with AWB first tonight, as they're not quite finished. But this will be next on my list; I should at least be able to start tonight. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:36, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much.—RJH (talk) 21:38, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Certainly. Sorry to provide so many; I thought I'd do a quick AWB run through the category, and didn't quite expect to find as many talkpages to create as I did, I'm afraid. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:39, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I've been using the category scanner tool to work my way through the list of articles under Category:Astronomy. But it is going to take a long, long time to get everything properly assessed, unfortunately. Thanks again.—RJH (talk) 21:46, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Done; I think I caught 'em all. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:15, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Can you use AWB to add Category:Populated places in Majorca to the Municipalities of Majorca? I've spotted a load of stray settlements which are not categorized. You may find more settlements in Category:Geography of Majorca and any municipality categories. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:55, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK thanks. Yes there are lots of stray articles like Cala d'Or which weren;t categorized as places. I'll see if I can find some more now. I think it might also be a good idea to do the same thing for Minorca and for Ibiza but Majorca is the biggest. We only have "Municipalities of Spain" but we have a number of village articles and missing ones for these islands. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:59, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wow, great work! I've found 21 settlements so far should be most of the stray ones the rest of course are the municipalities which are also the towns. Should be stray ones for both Minorca and Ibiza though.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:11, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Its odd the way the Spanish cities are organized. We mostly have Category:Municipalities of... but there of course often many comarcas and villages within municipalities which should have or already have articles. But mostly they are not sorted out. I'm thinking that it would be a good idea to also categorize Municipalities as Populated places in but then also add the settlements within the municipalities into regional populated places categories. I think I'll begin sorting this tomorrow, Balearic Islands will be a start. We need a way to organize Spanish villages. The best way is under Category:Populated places in Spain and regional categories named the same of course. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:19, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's great. I've started Category:Populated places in the Balearic Islands. Ibiza and Menorca are empty. There is some inconsistency with the Menorca spelling, I'll always called it Minorca but I'm going by category naming on here. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:24, 4 July 2010 (UTC) I'm shocked that Argentina lost 4-0 to Germany. 4-0!!! Even worse than England.... That's some consolation I guess. Speedy deletion nomination of D.N.C

We have a new "fit" female politician candidate here. Nah Maliina is nicer than both. The first has big ears, the second looks average to me! Norwegian women in general though are said to be beautiful according to my dad. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:59, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oo nice one. Maybe I'll "sub stub" em tomorrow. Alg seems confident that they can all be fleshed out a lot. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:29, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Charles Matthews found me the full DNB text. See Sarah Harriet Burney. Needed a rewrite. I may expand into a DTK using that source referencing the birthdate I found tomorrow. I'll expand the others I started earlier shortly. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:42, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

DNB 1903 is tough readin though, a lot of the article warble and need considerable effort to edit and publish on wikipedia. There was me thinking the text could simply be pasted! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:47, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I actually think its a problem with the original text itself. For instance the entry on Sarah Burney claims that "her birthdate and year is unknown" but says "around 1770". Yet the article on the Sheffield Uni site cites a diary by her sister claiming August 28, 1772. It contains known errors and the articles warble a lot in places, some of the text is not really relevant etc. It is absolutely fine as a starter though. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:58, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I guess that's what kept the encyclopedia people in business at least until 2001.... SOme of the articles are fine like Richard Burnham (baptist) which barely needed editing, only chrono bio ordering but the John Burneyeat article half of it I had to exclude as it warbled about him being a nuisance! Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:11, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

One wonders though just how many such old encyclopedias exist. I would be particularly keen to get hold of an old Colombian/Brazilian encyclopedia or something would help if I was fluent in Spanish/Portuguese though. So many of the old encyclopedias we know about are incredibly Anglocentric. Just looking through my Hutchinson Encyclopedia from 1988 and the coverage of English/American/Anglo biographies is extreme. You'll rarely see a Colombian poet or something, only seems to be presidents they deem worthy of coverage from non Anglo countries.. . Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:40, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeha there's supposed to be an old Prussian encyclopedia that exists too I think. I think that would be very interesting in its likely coverage of nobles. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:45, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can you sort out Rebecca. She's created a load of new stubs with no stub tags Africa-protected-area-stub etc and some categories may not be linked properly...Reserves must be categorizesd as Protected areas of rather than National Parks though. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:29, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, but with the tiniest infoboxes known to man. Any chance you can use AWB to add the full parameter infoboxes to her articles later? At some point somebody is going to have to add the details inside the boxes.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:40, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Something like this. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:44, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just done half hour of rowing, 20 minutes hard running and 10 minutes weights and took a cold shower and amazingly I feel energized and ready to work again!! Its amazing that more energy I seem to put into physical exercise the better focus and stamina I have mentally!! Yesterday I did an hours rowing, I felt a bit achy this morning but this evening it wore off and I was ready to work out again!! I usually work out first thing in the morning. I can't believe now I was 227 pounds Christmas 2008. I've always been muscular but I had too much belly fat then! I'm now 205 and lean and cut almost have the six pack pack I had at 18!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:17, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

What I've noticed though is that at certain times in the day your energy levels drop and you feel sluggish. It usually happens to me late afternoon. The only thing is that when you exercise as hard as I do you'll feel great for an hour or two but then the muscle fatigue kicks in. Rowing is one of the best exercises I find for burning fat as it exercises all of the big muscle groups which require the most energy. And you can sit down and close your eyes whenever you want and feel all relaxed doing it. I think I'll get hold of a second hand exercise bike as sitting down exercising is easiest and most likely to succeed. The trick I find is that once you pass 10 minutes you start to burn fat instead of carbs and you get into a low intensity rhythm which is optimum for getting your body to go into fat burning mode. Its a lot easier sitting down too. Running though is good to get rid of stress build up. You can do all the crunches in the world but it aint gonna burn off fat. A lot of men actually have the ab muscles in place but they have so much adipose tissue fat covering it you'll never see it unless they change their diet and do some exercise!! There are days though when I can't be bothered and fele really lazy! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:42, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Right some Peruvian scientists to follow shortly... Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:46, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Me too! My low though is typically 3-5 . I especially feel bad around 4 pm because I start to get hungry too. It doesn't matter what I have for lunch it could be the cleanest salad in the world or a big pasty or something that energy low always happens mid-late afternoon. I've been trying to figure out how to prevent it!! It seems to occur an hour or two after eating doesn't it. I often feel like that around 7 pm too. I think maybe it is at the stage your body has digested your food and converted it into glucose in the blood and your glucose levels in the blood become high which could explain it... Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:19, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I first heard about him at the age of 7 when my mum bought by the 1990 Guiness book of records and he was on the first page. He was something like 5'4" at the age of 4 or 5 or something!! 9 foot is unhuman, so is 8 foot for that matter!. 7 foot is the borderline I think for crazy tall, anything over 7'6" is quite unbelievable. Even in the NBA most centers max at around 7 foot I think unless you are Yao Ming! They did say Goliath was 9 ft 6 or 10 feet though didn't they!! I'd bet top dollar that that was wildly exaggerated. They probably got the biblical translation figures wrong like they did with Methusala who was said to live to 969, some scholars think 96.9 years is what was intended. Category:Alumni of the École des Beaux-Arts

edit

Hi there. If you feel like picking up another AWB, project, go to École des Beaux-Arts and add the cat Alumni of the École des Beaux-Arts to the rest of the alumni listed there. I got as far as Bernard Buffet. There are a whole bunch of alumni that aren't listed on the École des Beaux-Arts page, but you can see them from 'What links here'. I'll give that group a go another day, unless you feel inclined to work them. Note that some of the What Links Here are alumni and others are faculty. I did create the cat Faculty of the École des Beaux-Arts, too, and populated it with the faculty listed on the article page. If you're working on other stuff, no worries! Category:Populated places in Côte d'Ivoire

edit

Hi. I've requested that I get a list communes by department and complete building the abandoned templates I start creating by region, remember? Hopefully if the forkster can generate a list from french wikipedia using what links here I can build them up. Once that is done I may need you to apply the templates using AWB to the articles and possibly do a regional category reorg at the same time. Would you be up for this? It should be a fair bit into the future given that the lists first have to be extracted and then added manually to the infoboxes. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:04, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK hopefully Forkster will be able to filter the lists using some tools and I can copy the commune directly into eacg regional template by department. Then the adding the template and recategorizing by region will need to be done. The AWB task should be very straightforward I think. Yeah I just came across Tiéméwhich has a long article on French wiki. All this time they've been developing on French wiki and barely been touched on here, They still have a m,ajority of small stubs though I think but gradually they are being expanded referenced. Eventually I can imagine that they'll all develop. As if there wasn't enough France based content to transfer.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:13, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thats what I mean. If French wiki had been sensible and listed them by department I'd have completed the templates long ago. I hope than Forkster can use something to generate an organized list for me to work with. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:22, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I do have a small request in the meantime. Can you add and create Category:Haberdashers to those listed in Haberdasher? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:37, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Talking about energy slumps. I had loads of energy until a few minutes ago when suddenly I became highly lethargic and tired. Strange isn't it! Its 2:30 here. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:25, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Did you cat the haberdashers? I tell you what whenever you explore just a tad like this the missing content becomes embarrassing... Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:15, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Some more Tunisian theologians coming shortly... Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:23, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know you said you were having a quiet time of late but I was wondering if you'd be interested in helping me transfer these. All you need to do is copy and paste the text and start the wikipedia article. All it requires is minimal wikiiing/ref to DNB snd categories. If you do a batch once done, you just need to quickly link the article e.g http://en.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Allibond,_Richard_(DNB00)&action=edit with a wikipedia= and the exact name of the article. Its pretty easy to do and doesn't require much effort, no writing... Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:39, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you feel like doing a few see this for how to lay them out. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:58, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is a way we could do it. I get the text and start the articles but you add the categories? How does that sound? Having to type out the categories ever time makes the process twice as long! If I could start them without categories and you use hot cat or whatever to cat them would this be acceptable to you? Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:47, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK I'm off for my evening exercise for an hour or so in a minute, I'll resume then. The key to getting these done is efficiency so this would be a great help. I'll do a couple before I log out. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:06, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Films

edit

What's the worst film you've ever seen? Out for a Kill is shockingly awful. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:12, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Out for a Kill is not especially boring as such its too laughable for that, it just features some of the poorest quality lighting, acting, script and plot and CGI and worst cliches I've ever seen in a film that's all. Seagal has never been a good actor and you can never watch a Seagal movie and expect anything other than usual cop/CIA agent gets revenge and expect an actual decent storyline but at least some of his earlier films in the 1990s like Under Siege were fairly credible action films. There are loads of films I thought looked good and started watching only to find is terrribly boring! I see you;ve been creating some Albanian bios. Good work, I've been having a lazy day today.. Been really muggy here today. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:26, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can you rename Category:Karachi streets to Category:Streets in Karachi? Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:56, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Great work on the Albanians. Can you add Category:Albanian politicians to all your stubs? Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:37, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I think I'll make a start with the hotel templates. I intend to start a hotel for each country initially and then more at a later date. Perhaps you could make five hotel templates for me, any at random from the stub proposals page and I'll create a stub for each country you create? So for I've done Tunisia and Albania today. It really is a ridiculously undeveloped part of wikipedia. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:55, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Take your pic from User:Dr. Blofeld/Hotels. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:07, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Actually before templates are created for missing countries do you think you could help me stub sort them. If you use Category:Hotels by country you'll see the countries which already have articles. Then we will be left with those which don't. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:22, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK, I'll make a start with Africa at the bottom of the list then. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:29, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

A good challenge will be to make Category:African hotel company stubs viable. Only about 45 articles to create., roughly one for every African country remaining perhaps... Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:51, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Tricky? Should be very easy for the whole of Africa, finding wealth of content and 60 for each country would be very tricky though. try that. Stubby but at least they have a few sources. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:31, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

So far 26 stubs for African hotels... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:35, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Mmm I'll see if I can create two more for Eq. Guinea. But I want the articles to be notable so I doubt there are that many notable hotels in the country. I stand by my belief though that every country has a few notable hotels. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:39, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Try Sofitel Malabo President Palace. 18th century colonial building, truly notable. The historical hotels are always the most encyclopedic I think. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:48, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK Africa is now stub sorted. Probably not worth creating hotel templates for countries like Lesotho and Benin, or is there? There are never likely to be 60 for most of these countries so probably not. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:35, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

5 for Eq. Guinea. A more difficult challenge would be to create 10 for each African country so there would be over 500. I think 10 is manageable for most African countries with the exception of a few of the smaller countries and islands. I'm not going to create 500 African hotel articles though!! A bigger priority would be Beninese arrondissements and expanding some of the regional stubs. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:48, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah and when the third largest city in the country looks like Ebebiyín its difficult to think about creating landmarks when it could do with several hours work. Scraps can be found in google books though, since the mass of digitalized books in 2009 the prospect for at least some info is a bit better, pretty dire though still. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:59, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Mmm pretty useless still really... Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:06, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Right I'm off for a break now, maybe when I return I'll do a few more DNB articles. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:10, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've begun stub sorting SE Asian hotels. Done Singapore but can you use AWB to add Template:Hotels in Singapore to them? Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:22, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

My ideal would eventually to have an article like Manila Hotel for each major hotel by city. If its done properly then they are encyclopedic enough I think. Hotels are especially tough to write about to avoid sounding like an advert or tourist guide though. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:37, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah undoubtedly the best hotel articles are those which have major historical significance and have plenty of historical information. The best sources are found in books of course. Travel guides tend to list them for tourists and usually don't have much encyclopedic info. Books like "The Guide to Asia's Best Hotels" and "Guide to London's Boutique Hotels" are the sorts of material we need. I've always liked looking at photograph of hotel pools and interior architecture since I was a young boy and we'd be in the travel agents booking a Mediterraean holiday and I'd be looking at exotic looking pools and palm trees and beaches and white hotel apartments in the many brochures. A good quality article with plenty of historical info and photographs is me ideal but for most hotels info is only really available in travel guides/sites. That is actually the case with many towns in the developing world too. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:55, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I gather you haven't heard anything from Calliopjen recently? She's gone into silent, aloof mode again, just as that Chile biography project was getting interesting. If you look at this it looks promising. you know in reading that it might not be too long that google will introduce a wiki translator into the browser. Say for instance you visit a stubs article which has a full article on another wiki you get to view the foreign equivalent in english on the screen. We definately need some mass coordination in this. I'm glad google is helping trnalsate articles other wikis but it needs to work both ways. The writer of that artice sums it up brilliantly with "There's something exciting and a little scary about the universalization of Google and Wikipedia. ". The potential is indeed staggering. Historic Florida architecture 1989 AIA survey listings by county

edit

Hi, Many thanks for your generous offer. Over the weekend User:Ebyabe jumped in and used his AWB to finish the ones that were ready to be done, which really helped me out. I'm sort of resting right now and working on creating more articles on the listings in Gilchrist County, which is one of two counties in Florida with no NRHP listings, the other being Lafayette. I've already done 6 articles there. Many of the NRHP listings in each county also also on this list. By comparing the two lists, I can see where there are gaps. I'll be sure to let you know when I'm ready to do the last 21 counties. Best wishes. clariosophic (talk) 23:26, 2 August 2010 (UTC) PS Dixie County is another county I'm currently working on. It has 2 places on the NRHP, but neither of them is on the AIA list, which has 16 listings for it. clariosophic (talk) 23:38, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

  The Yoda of Categorizing Barnstar
You truly are a magnificent help on wikipedia with adding categories. This barnstar is long due as a small token of thanks for your extensive aid in categorizing/helping me and others. Thankyou Ser Amantio. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 20:39, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Remember those at the Fritzpoll proposal who said they'll remain sub stubs forever. Well exmaine the edits of the person to Anjuman, Afghanistan, Qal`eh-ye Panjeh and other Afghanistan villages in his editing since July. Dr. Blofeld 19:40, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Put things in persective and there are over 500,000 potential articles on UK listed buildings alone. Add that to how many NRHP places? I'd imagine combined they probably would make up half the current size of our encyclopedia. We really are still getting started! then you add those 640,000 Indian villages and almost a million Chinese villages/townships and we have our current sized encyclopedia from those four topics alone. Scary. Dr. Blofeld 14:31, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some of them like little barns in the middle of rural Kansas are questionable though for notability. But porbably enough encyclopedic material exists in the registry to make even those acceptable. Now consider that many countries have official historic registered buildings amd listed buildings the potential is endless. Are you gonna by here for the next hour or so? I have some DNB articles you could help with categories. Dr. Blofeld 16:34, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's how the hotel articles should look bare minimum like Seabank Hotel with plenty of photos and notable historical info. Now if we could get hotels all over the world onto here and make them encyclopedic this would be ideal... Such a neglected part of wikipedia. there is something satisfying about a place you know well though. Dr. Blofeld 20:01, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, its a known sockpuppeteer (See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Moutray2010/Archive), and the last SPI didn't show any blockable range of IP's or sleeper accounts. He's not particularly dangerous or annoying, so the best way to counter it is trough blocking any sock-puppets trough WP:RBI. As for the IP range, the best way to ask this is WP:SSP, since only checkusers can view the underlying IP addresses of an account. In cases where you spot a large group of disruptive IP socks you can simply propose the block at WP:AIAV though. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 20:33, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Computer playing up again grrr. Yes if you see User:Dr. Blofeld/Hotels you'll find them linked and what needs doing. NYC, DC and maybe LA can have their own cats I think, only if you think necessary though, I think NYC does in particular. A lot of hotels are not tagged as such but have NRHP tags only or something else. A lot are not even tagged at all I think. Browsing by hotel by state would be a good start but I've noticed many hotels on the NRHP are not categorized as "hotels" so they ideally need routing out too. No rush, its a gradual development for me, do some whenever you feel like it, if you find it easier to ge tthem all out of the way in one or two runs by all means go for it! Estonian villages

edit

Can you put WikiProject Estonia tags to Estonian villages talk pages? Thanks. Pelmeen10 (talk) 13:09, 19 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, somebody recently created new ones, just an example Lauli. But could you also put class=Stub and importance=Low? Pelmeen10 (talk) 16:03, 19 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks alot. Pelmeen10 (talk) 16:34, 19 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'll see what I can do. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); August 20, 2010; 14:30 (UTC)

Enjoy. It is rather dry and consists mostly of population stats, but I'll try finding something more fun when I get back home to my library. No promises I'll find anything to add, though, so don't get your hopes up. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); August 20, 2010; 15:37 (UTC)
Not much different from hundreds of similar villages out there, I'm afraid. Glad you could use it—it's so much more fun to do something when you know it is being looked forward to :) If you come upon some other place related to your family history, don't hesitate to let me know. I don't usually do translations just for the heck of it, but I will gladly make an exception when it's personal. User talk:SimonTrew has asked for some translation requests from Hungarian. No doubts you have some operas or whatever in mind. Perhaps you could request a few from Simon and Monkap? Dr. Blofeld 11:09, 26 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Collaborative news on quippd

edit

Hey, I noticed that you had recently edited the Muna Hotel attack article, and I hoped that you could help out on another collaborative community edited project.

I run quippd, a collaboratively edited social news site, which mixes elements of Wikis, social networking, and social news sites. You can get some more information about what we are doing at: http://quippd.com/about/intro

Basically, we want to get good coverage on news stories, collaboratively edited, like Wikipedia. We are trying to take the ideas of WikiFactCheck -- to make news less biased and speedier (unlike something like Wikinews). By combining social elements to the project, we hope to bring the benefits of wiki enabled fact checking and npov ideas to the masses.

I hope you check us out -- and feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Vietnamese rivers

edit

Hello. I was wondering if you could create the categories in User:Dr. Blofeld/Launch Pad 1 for the Vietnamese rivers. Eac category will go in Cat:Rivers of Vietnam and the relative geography cat see Category:Rivers of Lang Son Province for an example. Also each cat will need to interwiki link to the relative province on Vietnamese wikipedia here. You will find that the geography categories will also all need creating I think e.g Category:Geography of Lang Son Province. Its best to create it now I think as there are mountains, lakes and other features which can be houses in sub cats of it.I think i'll transfer all of the rivers articles from Viet wiki as the coverage of even major rivers is often still missing. Then I'll need help to recat as many of the existing river articles by province as possible, Obviously ones like the Mekong though should remain in the main category. Dr. Blofeld 12:14, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks what I'll do is gradually build a list of articles by province for List of rivers of Vietnam from Viet wiki. I can then work through them. No rush though. I'll ask Yellow Monkey to guard the new categories so if some are left empty for a week or two they won't be deleted. Soon enough we will have a handful of rivers for each province. I think I'm going to focus on Vietnam, Burma and Laos over the next few months, and haunted British houses of course....I still have the hotels to sort out though... Dr. Blofeld 13:43, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks I'll begin copying the rivers and red link them in the list then. Dr. Blofeld 13:53, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK I'll gradually add the inter links for the rivers. I don't think many provinces have geo cats on Viet wiki. If so perhaps you could find those later.. Dr. Blofeld 14:13, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can you copy and paste this into each of the new cats vi:Thể loại: - Then I will copy the by province list and quickly add them, Dr. Blofeld 14:16, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

You don't need to understand it! If you could just post the empty connector links I'll follow suite and copy and pase the relative cat name from here into the set up link. OK? Dr. Blofeld 14:18, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just copy and paste the link from here. Dr. Blofeld 14:20, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nonono, just the link needed copying here. You added a Category: before it. The category: part wasn't needed it is only a interwiki link. Can you correct that and then I'll immedaitely add the links!! ! Dr. Blofeld 14:36, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Cheers, I'll finish the rest and then go through and add the actual links. If you could create the geo cats later when you have a mo this will be a great help. Thanks. Dr. Blofeld 14:41, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Phew! I need a break now. In the next few days I'll finish making the lists and begin transwikying them. I've asked the monkey to ensure some trigger happy admin doesn't delete the categories. Dr. Blofeld 15:29, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hehe, see User:Dr. Blofeld/Launch Pad 1. I think it needs somebody to be WP:BOLD. I'll create the categories and start the recatting later unless you get to it first! Dr. Blofeld 16:46, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I was still busy adding things to Wat Chet Yot when you started editing it. Please give people some time to finish their edits because your edits created an edit conflict which made it a bit confusing for me adding in the rest. Thanks! - Takeaway (talk) 16:07, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

You tagged Serge Marjollet for speedy deletion as an attack page, and I deleted it. However, following representations from the author of the article, I have decided that it is not clear that that was correct, so I have restored it. You may use PROD or AfD if you still think it should be deleted. JamesBWatson (talk) 19:15, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
