Orphaned non-free image File:TPIR Rainbow Wheel.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:TPIR Rainbow Wheel.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 01:49, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello Scott5114! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 6 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

February 2010

edit

I see you have destroyed all my pages that are county routes "R" in Riverside. Why did you do this if other county routes have their own pages, while this "R" has to have only one page? For example, you would put all county routes "S", that is S1, S2, S3, S4, .....S80 into one article. Pzoxicuvybtnrm 19:36, 18 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

We already decided to do this at WT:USRD a while back, and you agreed to it. --Rschen7754 21:16, 18 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, I was just a little sad because I put a lot of work in those articles.Pzoxicuvybtnrm 04:05, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Shouldn't important county routes like S80 continue to exist? Pzoxicuvybtnrm 05:11, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Under the discussion raised at WT:USRD, the remaining articles are planned to be merged together. Of course, in merging it into the list, there's no reason a {{main}} template can't be used with a summary of the article in that place. The article then doesn't need to be redirected into the list. See how F-41 or H-58 are set up with List of Michigan County-Designated Highways. I think the only one that had some agreement to keep separate was S18, because it is a Good Article. Re-read the discussion again if you don't remember what the consensus was.
Look, if these articles were B-Class or better, I'd say they could be separate from a list. After all, I un-merged M-28 Business (Ishpeming–Negaunee, Michigan) from M-28 (Michigan highway). Both are FAs. The other two, now former, business loops are GAs or A-Class. Concerning U.S. Route 41 in Michigan, the one former business loop does not have a separate article. That article title redirects to the parent article. The other two business loops, which in fairness, were also co-designated BUS M-28, do have separate articles. Template:Infobox road and how it pertains to Mexican Federal Highway articles

edit

Hi, I know you're quite knowledgeable about highways and how to add things like highway route images to Wikipedia articles. I've studied Template:Infobox road intensely and can't figure out why it doesn't seem to want to display a highway image I uploaded for the article Mexican Federal Highway 3. The file I uploded is in PNG format (hopefully someone will later upload an SVG file instead). The template shows "|country=MEX|type=FH |route=3" so I assumed that (given a specific file name for the highway sign image) the image I uploaded would appear but it hasn't. Any insight you could give on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Bumm13 (talk) 21:23, 29 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I'm a total dork...the highway article page just needed to revised again for the image(s) to show up =p Sorry for bothering you. Bumm13 (talk) 22:44, 29 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Interstate 64 in Missouri

edit

I am confused by your reason for protecting Interstate 64 in Missouri. There is no recurring vandalism on the page, at least not within any reasonable time frame. The last time the kind of vandalism you reverted occurred was over 6 months ago and the time before that was another 6 months. --Millbrooky (talk) 14:46, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm familiar with the "St. Louis Signer" having done battle with the user along with yourself back in the day. But, unless I'm missing something, the article in question hasn't been page protected since 1 January 2009. Since that time, there have been only 6 relevant reversions to the article. Page protection just seems like overkill, in my opinion. --Millbrooky (talk) 15:30, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Pretty much. It's easy to hit the rollback button for the occasional vandalism. Besides, in the past year and a half, there have been significantly more helpful IP edits on the I-64 in MO article than there have been edits by vandals. I know its annoying to revert the same vandalism over and over, but at the current rate of vandalism, semi-protection is just not needed. --Millbrooky (talk) 19:34, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hogback Road at I-44

edit

Scott,

I have added postmiles to the JKT and Turner Turnpike pages. I drove the Turner last week and saw that a partial interchange at Hogback Road in Oklahoma County [1] is under construction, so I added this to the exit list (and noted that it is under construction) but did not include an exit number because I did not want to speculate. I attempted to add the "future roads" template to the page but it seems to have been deleted. If there is a replacement, could you point it out or add it to the Turner Turnpike page? Thanks. The article List of HOT and ETL lanes in the United States has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Trivial cruft best suited for leaving in the specific articles rather than attempting to collate into a single list.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Imzadi 1979  22:07, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

MSU Interview

edit

Dear Scott5114,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Macdonald

edit

Hi Scott5114, Sorry for the tardy reply to your note about MacDonald--I've been away for a bit. Anyhow, I relied on Swift's excellent "Big Roads" which I had read very recently. The book covers his long career in some detail, and I was led to believe that he was indeed a very important figure in the development of the interstate highway system. I enjoyed reading about his data based approach to such engineering problems as the proper coloring, fonts, etc. of the signage which we still see on our interstates today. Looking at your editing history, you certainly have a much broader base of detailed knowledge of the history of the interstates than I will ever have, and so I should probably defer to you in any edits on this. Cheers. DonSiano (talk) 15:06, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

We noticed though that when you edited U.S. Route 60 in Oklahoma, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages U.S. Route 164 and Cimarron River (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
