License tagging for Image:Acciaccatura notation.png
editThanks for uploading Image:Acciaccatura notation.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:05, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the map.
editHey, just wanted to say thanks for making the SVG map. With some help from the technical village pump I figured out what the problem was, the image contained a (unused) reference to the original GIF image. For security reasons MediaWiki refuses to render images that contain any external links. I opened it up in a text editor, removed the reference and re-uploaded the image and now it works :) --Sherool (talk) 12:46, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Molecular models
editHi Sbrools.
I noticed just today that you've been adding quite a few images of molecules to articles in WP. This is excellent! I'd like to introduce you to the Chemistry Wikiproject - perhaps you'd like to join. If so, you'd be very welcome.
I also add loads of molecular models to Wikipedia, and I have a few tips to share with you:
- It looks like you're using Accelrys DS Visualizer to create your 3D images. How about using this colour palette? It's what most Wikipedia chemists are using, so it'd mean we all used the same colour scheme - good for readers, so they don't get confused.
- In DS Visualizer, go Edit > Preferences > 3D Window > Lighting. There you can create rather nice lighting effects. In my experience, a good solid appearance is generated when I rotate the white light to the top left of the sphere, then add the darkest (bottommost) colour light and move it to the bottom right.
- Again in DS Visualizer, always make sure hydrogen atoms are added. 3D models are not skeletal formulae! You can do this easily by pressing the add hydrogens button whose symbol is just an H. You can also get the (usually!) correct geometry and bond lengths by clicking the clean geometry button. This is really useful.
- Consider adding your images directly to the Wikimedia Commons, where they can be used in all Wikimedia projects (Wikipedias of all languages, Wikibooks, etc.)
I look forward to adding some great images to chemistry articles with you
Cheers
- Your images are looking amazing! Fantastic job. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you in your quest to illustrate WP.
- See you around
3D Mols!
editHey man, thanks for doing 3D mols on the phenethylamines! Perhaps you could tackle a few of the tryptamines (5-MeO-DMT plz) next? Also, enjoy Boston in the fall!

- Salvinorin_A too, please. I'd loooove to see that in 3D.
3D-pics
editNice job making 3-D chem structures for a bunch of psychedelics (ex. Dimethyltryptamine, the 2C family, etc.). Do you think you could make some for the rest of the chemicals of Shulgin's PiHKAL? It would be a great help. -Use the force (Talk * Contribs) 02:38, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

3D images of inorganics
editHi SB,
To make lattices such as lithium iodide, you need information on its crystal structure.
One of the best places to download such information is here. Search for a mineral my name or chemical composition (type (Na,Cl)- to search for minerals containing only Na and Cl). You'll usually get several options. Choose carefully, because there are often crystal structures under extreme conditions there. If you're making an illustration for an article on stibnite, for example, you'll want to show the structure at room temperature and pressure. You won't want to choose the 1000 K, 20 GPa structure!
- First check the file you have chosen is what you actually want - click View JMOL 3-D Structure
- If you're happy with it, click Download CIF data to get the unit cell.
- Open the .cif file in DS Visualizer - you'll see the unit cell marked out with grey lines
- Render it as ball-and-stick or polyhedra
- To make the lines of the unit cell disappear, press ctrl+D and select the cell tab - then click hide or something
- To extend the structure in 1, 2 or 3 dimensions, open Structure > Crystal Cell > Edit Parameters > Preferences tab > View Range - A is the number of unit cells along the x-axis, B is the number along the y-axis and C along the z-axis
- Voilà
There are also quite a few inorganics here, although these are not available as unit cells - they're just pseudo-molecules. You can't make them extend to dimensions of your choice.
This image has NH2 group at position 4 where it should be Br. I have removed the image from 2C-B page. After the image has been drawn the way it should be feel free to putit back. - Boris 20:50, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Some structural innacuracies
editHey, what's up. Just noticed the melatonin structure needs a tune up. The indole ring is missing is double bond between the 2 and 3 positions. they both just have an extra hydrogen atom makin 'em sp3 instead of sp2. In investigating this i noticed unfortunately that all of your indole/tryptamine based structures are innacurate in this regard. They are beautiful structures, and I've overlooked the errors for quite some time now. Just noticed and thought I'd let you know in case you'd like to correct. Check out the Indole page to see the full aromaticity of these structures. Do you use QuteMol to render these ? Peace, and nice work on populating these pages with 3d structures. Structure problems
editHi Sbrools, all your older tryptamine structures are wrong, they are in fact indolines. Also, all 2C-N, BOHD, sumatriptan, and melatonin structures. Image:5-MeO-DMT-3d-sticks.png is stretched. Please could you correct these or remove them. Please could you also check all your uploads for mistakes. Thanks, Cacycle 13:36, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:Albuquerque Thunderbirds log.png
editThis is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Albuquerque Thunderbirds log.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:40, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Falun8.svg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Falun8.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:13, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:AdultSwim.svg
editThanks for uploading Image:AdultSwim.svg. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Collectonian (talk) 05:52, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Falun8.svg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:Falun8.svg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box.
