Wikipedia:Pending changes/Straw poll on interim usage

Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:46, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Hey. I was wondering if you could copyedit the Reception section, when you can get around to it. It's not a top priority matter, so you could take your time with it, I know you've got other copyediting to do. I tried asking on the GoCE request page (the previous copyeditor after you didn't copyedit the reception section), but it got removed sometime today for whatever reason. Again, it's not an urgent matter. --The Taerkasten (talk) 18:10, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Sure, for you, no problems. I will go through it sometime this week. - S Masters (talk) 01:40, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I'd really appreciate it. I think I will take it to FA within the next month or so. I only hope it doesn't fail this time, it'd be the third or fourth.--The Taerkasten (talk) 09:54, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Just a quick reminder, but again, if you have other things to do, this can be done at a later date. I don't want to seem like I'm rushing you or anything.--The Taerkasten (talk) 12:24, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I haven't forgotten. Just trying to tie up a few things with the GOCE and I should be able to work on it in the next few days. Cheers. – S Masters (talk) 14:42, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
I can't really thank you enough for your help in this article. I have a feeling it's gonna be FA soon, and you've helped so much. --The Taerkasten (talk) 11:30, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
It's my pleasure. Sorry it took me so long to get to it. Have had a very hectic few weeks. I have to say that the article is looking great now, the writing is tight, and I think it has a good shot at FA. Let me know if you need any more assistance. I sincerely hope you get the FA – you really deserve it! – S Masters (talk) 12:01, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, I've taken the leap of faith, it's now an FAC. Fingers crossed. --The Taerkasten (talk) 14:06, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Indeed! I will keep an eye on it. Give me a shout if you need any help. Wishing you all the best! – S Masters (talk) 14:15, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm not feeling too optimistic about the way things are going. If it fails, it's not like it hasn't happened before, 3 failed FA's, but I'd really like to see it become FA. I'm not sure if there's gonna be any support at all for it's promotion to FA.--The Taerkasten (talk) 20:20, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for you help and support so far. It's going OK. The only thing I'm worried about is that it will won't pass with neither "Support" or "oppose" being present for the FAC.--The Taerkasten (talk) 17:34, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
No problems. I am concerned about that too. It is probably looking very messy right now. Let's try to settle all the major issues, and if necessary, withdraw and resubmit for a clean vote. But having said that, I'm not familiar with the workings of FA and am not sure how they operate. Let's see what happens and get advice from those who are more experienced in this area once we have got everything up to shape. Cheers. – S Masters (talk) 02:56, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, I don't really want to wait another 2 weeks before another nomination but we'll just see how it goes.--The Taerkasten (talk) 12:32, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
I have done a further round of copy edits and I hope it might turn the tide. Good luck. --Diannaa (Talk) 18:30, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Copyedit help

Hello. I am striving for FA for No Rest for the Wicked (Supernatural), but a reviewer requested a good copyedit for the article. I saw your name on the Copyeditors Guild, and was wondering if you would you mind doing so? It's a relatively short article. Thanks :) Ωphois 15:33, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I just had a quick look at the FAC and I can see that Airplaneman from WP:GOCE worked on this just last month. I'm quite busy at the moment, plus we are wrapping up our drive. Also, it looks like you need someone good with working on prose. I don't really do that. I do technical copyedits, i.e. spelling, grammar, WP:MOS compliance, etc. I suggest you put it on our Requests page, and specify that you need someone to look at the prose. Thanks and good luck with this. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 15:49, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated! Several of our top editors were called away to real life concerns during the month (be careful out there, people!). This meant that once again, we did not meet all our lofty targets, but we did come close.

Stats

  • Out of 76 registered editors, 45 actively participated.
  • We nearly wiped out the 2008 articles from the backlog—there were only 13 remaining when the drive closed.
  • We reduced the backlog by 725 articles (11.5%), so it was another successful drive.
  • A total of 59 barnstars will be awarded to 40 editors—well done, and congratulations to all.

Barnstars
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the July 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, you may have earned rollover words, which counted towards this month's barnstars (except for the leaderboard awards). Any unused word credits will be held over for the next drive, as long as you participated in the September drive. Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars. Click here to see a list of barnstar winners.

  • We will be holding our next drive in November. You can sign up here.

A huge "thank you" to all editors who helped clear the backlog and to others who helped out behind-the-scenes. See you at the next drive, and until then, please continue to help us work through the backlog. Happy editing!

GOCE barnstar question

Quick question about my barnstar for the September backlog drive: the Leaderboard has me tied for fourth place in the article count, but the barnstar is for fifth place. I was wondering about the apparent discrepancy...? // ⌘macwhiz (talk) 19:46, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Whoops. Sorry about that, please go ahead and correct it I have corrected it. Not sure why that happened, too many things going on in my head. :-) – S Masters (talk) 01:47, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks... I chalked it up to workload anyway... been there, done that :) No harm, no foul. // ⌘macwhiz (talk) 01:55, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your understanding, and also for your awesome efforts during the drive. Congrats again on all the awards. – S Masters (talk) 02:03, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, SMasters, for helping get the barnstars sent out. --Diannaa (Talk) 17:17, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
No problems, happened to have some spare time in the last few hours. :-) – S Masters (talk) 17:59, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Many thanks. I believe that I ce'd a 10k article, about NFL telecast rights YellowMonkey (new photo poll) 00:37, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks so much for alerting me. I have to apologize for that. Unfortunately, the editors who prepared the barnstars list for the drive missed it. I have rectified the omission. I trust you enjoyed the drive and we hope to see you at our next drive. Cheers. – S Masters (talk) 04:33, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem at all. Thanks again YellowMonkey (new photo poll) 01:44, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Kubera

The article is currently under GAN (Talk:Kubera/GA1). The reviewer has given me 2 weeks to improve the article. As the comments, the article needs a copyedit, especially in terms of tense. Also, the article needs a copyeditor who is non-Indian, non-Hindu editor with excellent English, so he point out unclear Hindu ideas and jargon. IMO, you fit the bill. Can you please copyedit the article? Thanks. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:33, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for considering me. I am currently quite tied up with work, and I already promised another editor that I would work on his article first. Since you have some time, I will be happy to do it, but you need to allow me a week or so to get to it. Cheers. – S Masters (talk) 07:23, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Take your time. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:28, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
I have finished copyediting the article. Let me know if you need more help. I have put my comments on the article's talk page. Cheers. – S Masters (talk) 04:54, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the copyedit and can you please take a look at Rati too (Talk:Rati/GA1).--Redtigerxyz Talk 07:28, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Please check Talk:Kubera too; have responded to your comments and please make the necessary changes in the article. Thanks. --Redtigerxyz Talk 07:43, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
I have completed Rati. I do not have much time so I did not save each edit at a time, rather, I worked in whole sections. You can see the whole edit here. Good luck with the GA. Cheers. – S Masters (talk) 15:21, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks a lot SMasters. As you are also a GA reviewer, did you see any GA issues as you noted in Kubera? --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:28, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I am. Personally, I don't see any issues but every reviewer is different. I will try to help you if you come to any roadblocks. Drop me a note if you need it. Cheers. – S Masters (talk) 15:36, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
