Getting the Wikipedia Post to be seen
Hi there, Just came on board to Wikipedia. I made a page about the upcoming film "The Stoning of Soraya M" and I try to google it and can't find it anywhere. here is the link that I have:http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=The_Stoning_of_Soraya_M.&oldid=237175287
Any help? Tberden (talk) 00:29, 9 September 2008 (UTC) T.J. 9/8
- Hm, I'm not sure how Google works when it comes to updating, etc. I suggest asking at the Wikipedia:Help desk. You might be able to get more answers there. And welcome to Wikipedia, Tberden! -- RyRy (talk) 01:46, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

User page resign
Hi! I was just wondering if you still do this? If so, could you take a look at my page and see if it is possible? Because although it doesn't have a lot of a text in it; and after 3 years of my userpage just looking like an article, I feel I need a redesign. Thanks. - Nick C (talk) 22:43, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, I could probably think of something to redesign your user page. Any specifics (colors, etc.)? -- RyRy (talk) 22:59, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- I would like a green feel to my page, however not too light green though, bad on the eyes! The Edit Count and Other Stuff sub-sections could be moved to a subpage; my personal userboxes can be condensed into a scrollable sidebar like the shoutbox is here and the WikiProject ones can be made collapsable. I would also like the font to be changed to "Kristen ITC" if possible. Thanks! - Nick C (talk) 09:58, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Next update
Please take a second look at the lead hook for the next update. According to the article, the original Kamikaze was not a mission in the commonly known sense of a suicide attack. It was a nick name of a Japanese passenger plane. The hook reads: ... that Tachikawa Airfield (pictured) was the military base in Tokyo from which the 1937 Kamikaze mission to London took off? I think it should read instead, "from which the 1937 original "Kamikaze" passenger plane to London took of" or something like that. Cheers, --Poeticbent talk 17:04, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- I believe your mistaken. I didn't load the current next update, so saying "second look" is redundant, because I never took a "first look". I loaded the update that is currently on T:DYK and on the Main Page as I write this. If you look at this, you can probably see I never loaded the current one. But I'll take your word for it, and I'll change the hook for you. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 19:26, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought of your page as the next update which it obviously isn't. That's because I always look at your page first, a personal quirk. Anyhow, the hook looks much better now. Thanks for fixing it. --Poeticbent talk 21:06, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for asking though. Cheers, RyRy (talk) 21:31, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Did You Know
Hey RyRy. Can you do me a favor? I have an adoptee, User:Chamal N, who just submitted his first DYK nomination. Would you mind reviewing his nomination? I would, but it would be a conflict of interest. Thanks for the help.--LAAFansign review 17:49, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for reviewing it. I'm trying to steer my adoptee towards working on articles more, the same way you did with me.--LAAFansign review 21:19, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, good. :) Nice to hear it. Your doing just fine, LAAFan. Just be careful with those speedy deletion requests. I saw some were reverted in your contributions, and they didn't meet WP:CSD. When you get around mentoring your adoptee around that area (assuming s/he would like to learn more about CSD), be careful. You wouldn't want to teach your adoptee false info. Other than that, keep it up! -- RyRy (talk) 21:31, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've ultimately decided to almost cease tagging for CSD. I'll only do it every once in a while, so I lower that level of concern for editors.--LAAFansign review 22:40, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the verification at T:TDYK for this article's hook and your kind comment. This is quite a nice system we have going at WP:DYK now with the verification symbols - it makes checking hooks for the Next Update much faster. Cirt (talk) 21:36, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, anytime. I agree, it makes it much quicker to tell weather a hook has been reviewed and verified to move to the next update. Cirt, if you become an administrator, don't forget to add yourself to WP:DYK/A! :) Speaking of the next update... we need an administrator to update it. Think List of Seattle Mariners all time saves leaders is a bit specific? --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 00:41, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

- I think it's okay to create it. After all, it is all time save leaders. I don't see much of a problem. If your still not sure, maybe getting a second opinion might help. -- RyRy (talk) 01:03, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Reno request
Hiya.. I have what is hopefully a very minor request, because I am completely confused.
On my page, the nav box at the top shouldn't be 'broken' off from the rest of the content below. I can't figure out how or why it happened; everything on the page should be contained within the very dark grey box surrounding the nav. Would you be able to help me understand what I messed up?
Thanks, Prince of Canada t | c 03:57, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hey there, I tried to fix it, but I'm not entirely sure if that is exactly what you wanted fixed. Feel free to revert my edit! Yours, RyRy (talk) 04:35, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi.. no.. all of the infoboxes are displaying properly on that brownish-grey background with the lighter grey border. The navbar is within a dark-dark grey box, which should be covering the whole page, with all other elements on top of it, with the exact layout they have right now. Thank you for trying though! Prince of Canada t | c 05:03, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

25 DYK medal
The 25DYK Medal | ||
I hereby award the 25 DYK medal toRyRy for his contributions to the Did you know? project. You've fielded enough baseball players for more than two full teams, and even given them uniforms! (Now your challenge is to field an entire league's worth of players ;) Thanks for all that you do and congratulations on the milestone! JayHenry (talk) 02:50, 25 September 2008 (UTC) |
Thank you, JayHenry, and your welcome! :) I'll work on an entire league at some point. ;) –RyRy (talk) 02:56, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- You need at least a full batting order for 14 different teams, so that works out to 126 baseball DYKs to achieve the league milestone. Probably better do a stadium or two as well so they have a place to play. --JayHenry (talk) 03:00, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I'll see what I can do. I'll be done in a year. ;) – RyRy (talk) 03:07, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

My "special gadget" is Firefox. :-D I open a lot of taps and click each user's talk page and then their "new section", and copy-paste {{subst:UpdatedDYK|27 September|2008|Article name}} --~~~~ onto all the taps, and click "save page" for all the taps, completing the process in less than a minute, if I am not distracted by something else. --BorgQueen (talk) 06:08, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, I am glad that you seem to have acquired the skill of making a balanced group of hooks. Hello, are you interested in copyediting the former/future FAC The Other Woman (Lost)? It has already received a couple copyedits, but DecKiller felt that it could use another one for his support. Weeds
Weeds are always a good source of potential DYKs. There are often many government websites (i.e. reliable sources :) ) out there with pretty detailed information and a good detailed profile. The seedlings of Ochna serrulata are damn hard to pull out! A couple of things - the scientific name is always italicized, and one very rarely (I'd say never but I suspect there is some odd exception out there) uses "the" or "a" in front of it. Nice expansion, and feel free to expand any more :) Cheers, Casliber (talk ·contribs) 15:10, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Userpage design
Hello there RyRy, hope your doing well. I just wanted to drop you a note that I will not be needing my userpage (and/or subpages) redesigned by yourself. Not for prejudical reasons, I've played around with some codes and the current format works perfectly well for me. Hope you don't mind,Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 20:18, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
PS: What happened to your own 'page? It has been stripped down considerably. Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 20:18, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for the note. I noticed that you had already made a new design for your user page, and assumed you didn't need a redesign anymore, so I already knew beforehand. And yes, I've changed my user page. There are just so many nice designs out there to use, I couldn't choose the right one for me. Knowing that, I wanted to show to others what I have done for the encyclopedia (that's why we're here! To build an encyclopedia.) , so I made a simple design based on some parts of the user pages ofCaulde, Sean Whitton, and Cirt, and added a list of articles I've worked on in my time here. RyRy (talk) 00:45, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Thats nice to hear, thanks for replying. Cheers, Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 17:48, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Userpage
I saw you changed your userpage (again). Just to let you know, your article section says your FL is List of Yankees opening day starters, when I think you contributed to the Mets opening day starters. Am I correct?--LAAFansign review 00:19, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, you're correct. I just noticed that! Thanks. I guess when I was making that list, I was thinking of the last game at Yankee Stadium, a place with a lot of history in it. So I probably accidentally typed "Yankees" instead of "Mets". Well anyway, thanks for the note. I'll fix it right away. And about the redesign.... I'll probably try to stick with the current one for now. The reason for my redesign can be found in the section above this one. Yours, RyRy (talk) 00:45, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

I admit I forgot about it and haven't touched it following my initial clean-up. TravellingCari 19:43, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Cari. Sure, I'll be happy to work on it again. Thank you very much for your cleanup you previously did also, I appreciate it. I wasn't that good of an article writer back then, so I didn't know much about writing articles and what really are reliable sources. I'll see what I can do this time. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 00:31, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Glad it will go to a new home that won't neglect it as I have :) Feel free to move it to your own workspace and/or work on it in mine, I'm not fussed. I re-found it by accident. Was happy to help clean it up as I think there's some substance there, although I'm not yet 100% sure it's notable. We all improve over time, it's what learning is about. Have a good day and welcome to your new identity :) TravellingCari 04:53, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, if someone else thinks it's not 100% notable, it'll probably just take another ride at WP:AFD. We'll see. Until then (hopefully "then" won't happen), I'll work on it and see if I can get it on the Main Page as a DYK. Take care, Cari, and I just wanted to say thank you for your comments at my last RfA, and for all the other times you helped me when I was a "problem" editor. – RyanCross (talk) 05:00, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, always happy to give feedback. I think you're trying and you are improving. You seem to be an eager student, which is good although you have awful taste in baseball :-p. I think you're going to be a solid editor for a long time to come, and an admin one day too. I don't watch your page, just peeking in now for answers to this discussion but feel free to poke me if you have a question or if I can help with anything. TravellingCari 21:27, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Very well. Thank you for your kind words, Cari (can I call you Cari? :)). – RyanCross (talk) 21:29, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, it's a nickname from my nickname which on wiki has become TCari. To quote one of my favorite professors, "You can call me whatever you want -- just don't call me late for supper." TravellingCari 00:20, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit
I was just wondering if you like to copyedit articles, because I may have an article that needs it. RedThunder 12:01, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- To me it really depends on what the article is. If you give me a link to it, I'll see if I can do anything to help. -- RyRy (talk) 16:08, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
September Newsletter
The September version of the WikiProject Earthquakes newsletter has been posted! Be sure to check it out! — Ceranthor [Formerly LordSunday] 14:15, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Saw you crossed yourself out. I have a request now. Could you put in your opinion on the talk page of WP:ADOPT? I'm currently attempting to get an update of the adoptor's area page. Since your profile needs to be updated, you would be the ideal support of my proposal.--LAAFansign review 17:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- The reason why I'm not adopting him is because I already have an adoptee. I don't want more at the moment, so technically I am updated since I did saw I might take two users, and I could easily say "no" if they do ask and I'm not up for it at the time. So again, I am technically updated. -- RyRy (talk) 17:15, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Re:DYK
Cheers mate ;)
I actually knew most of that from Borg Queen, and have actually ahd to of my updates on the Main Page :D. Thanks anyway though, better to be told more than once than not told ;).
Could you review my edit once its complete (ill remove {{inuse}}).

- Cool, many thanks!
- BG7even 17:18, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking over it!
- I guess it was all ok except that?
- I'm not yet confident enough to allow one of my "Next Updates" to go online without being checked ;).
- Cheers,

DYK images
For my DYKs, I've added some images. I'm curious to know how well-connected the image has to be to the primary article in the DYK line to be allowed? For the ones that I added, are they acceptable? Gary King (talk) 17:51, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- The image for any DYK hook should preferably be the article featured as the DYK itself. An image that is not about the actual DYK article will sometimes be accepted, really depending on what the hook is. I took a look at the images you added, and only thought one of them might be confusing. It was the following:
- ... that Nintendo will be releasing a revised model of the Nintendo DS Lite (pictured) handheld game console called the Nintendo DSi, which will have two built-in cameras?
- The problem with the image is the image might confuse people between the Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DSi, since they look pretty similar, even if it does have (pictured) in the hook. If you had an image of the Nintendo DSi instead of the DS Lite, that would be much better. But like I said before, hooks like these will sometimes be accepted. If they are not accepted, they'll just add the hooks alone without the images. They'll usually remove images from hooks at the next update because the image is low quality, it causes a problem for the update somehow, there are too many hooks with images and they just had to remove an image from a hook, etc. -- RyRy (talk) 18:04, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Okay I figured the image would be removed if it wasn't accepted. I will try to add images whenever I can so that they have the option of using it if they want to. Gary King (talk) 18:14, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
