hat collector

Hey,

I was told that you manage hat collector in the SPI IRC channel. It seems to have stalled, would you mind giving it a reboot? Thanks, Mike VTalk 21:33, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

As I just sent in an email to User:DeltaQuad, we probably need a more long-term solution since I'm not really active on IRC or SPI anymore... but I've given him access to the project so that at least one of the SPI regulars can access it. --Rschen7754 04:26, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Apparently I have brand new access lol. After hitting a few wrong buttons, i've rebooted it and it's working again. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 06:39, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Interstate 8 image

Hello, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm not actually sure what the protocol is for the permission in this situation. I've had it on here for years (7, wow!) and this is the first time I've heard someone questioning it. If you want to nominate it for deletion, that will help with finding out if there's consensus. I have a few other he let me use, so curious what would be the result. I'd say definitely remove it from the article for now. I can probably take a more current image from that same vantage point sometime in the future, but can't guarantee anytime soon. Let me know if that helps, or if you need more info from me. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:38, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

@Nehrams2020: The "proper" way to do it is by having the person who took the picture sending a release to OTRS (see [13] for more info. Unfortunately, I don't think it would survive a deletion request at Commons otherwise. (I could probably take a picture too, but it might take me a few weeks to get down there). --Rschen7754 05:44, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of California State Route 243

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article California State Route 243 you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Caponer -- Caponer (talk) 20:40, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of California State Route 243

The article California State Route 243 you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold  . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:California State Route 243 for things which need to be addressed. User:BarkingFish asking for unblock

Hello Rschen7754. You participated in Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BarkingFish/Archive. See WP:ANI#User:BarkingFish request for unblock. Maybe you wish to comment there. It's not obvious to me that deciding on an unblock needs any review of confidential information. But perhaps you have specific knowledge. Though your last awareness of this matter may have been in April 2013. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 22:07, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

I agree that it should be referred to BASC. Unfortunately, I don't remember much beyond that I was involved somehow in the case, and alerted en.wikinews to the situation. --Rschen7754 22:10, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
BASC is getting tired. There was even a proposal to abolish BASC. Rather than go into a deep investigation, I can see the argument for simply declining the unblock. Can you think of any reason not to? Not sure this is really your issue, but you were kind enough to respond. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 22:12, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
I suppose I'm not a fan of unblocking either, but I feel that he should at least have his appeal heard somewhere. --Rschen7754 22:17, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

You recently blocked User:Mark Winterbottom, but he's written personal attacks against you on User talk:Mark Winterbottom for blocking him. I'd recommend removing his ability to use talkpage. (someone has removed the offensive comments) Joseph2302 (talk) 20:03, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Invitation

Thank you for using VisualEditor and sharing your ideas with the developers.

Hello, Rschen7754,

The Editing team is asking for your help with VisualEditor. I am contacting you because you were one of the very first testers of VisualEditor, back in 2012 or early 2013. Please tell them what they need to change to make VisualEditor work better for you. The team has a list of top-priority problems, but they also want to hear about small problems. These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and try to fix these small things, too.

You can share your thoughts by clicking this link. You may respond to this quick, simple, anonymous survey in your own language. If you take the survey, then you agree your responses may be used in accordance with these terms. This survey is powered by Qualtrics and their use of your information is governed by their privacy policy.

More information (including a translateable list of the questions) is posted on wiki at mw:VisualEditor/Survey 2015. If you have questions, or prefer to respond on-wiki, then please leave a message on the survey's talk page.

Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:13, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Global account

Hello,

I am the owner of the french Wikipédia account "Io'. You recently left a message to the english wikipedia account "Io" because it is inactive. I've juste been advised that, due to the global accound policy, my account could be renamed automaticaly if others "Io" acount have more contributions. I am a teacher/researcher and i drive a collective work with students on wikipedia since 2013 (i publish about wikipedia since 2006). So i realy need to keep the pseudo 'Io', even if i dont have a lot of direct contributions 'my students have created lot of pages). Please, could you rename the english "io" account as it is inactive to left me keep the nickname "io" and make it global ?

Regards,

Lionel Barbe Io https://fr.wiki.x.io/wiki/Utilisateur:Io — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.56.65.162 (talk) 17:56, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello, two days ago i left you this message. First, you did not answered me anything, second, you have created a global account "Io" although you know the english "Io" is inactive since four years. For a steward, you are really not very welcoming.

Io — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.56.65.162 (talk) 14:42, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello, i've just seen that you weren't connected since the 15 march. So i must conclude that you did not create the global account "Io", perhaps it's been an automatic procedure. So, i'm very sorry for the precedent message i left you..please forgive my wrong reading of the situation. So i hope you will connect soon and consider my arguments. I have about 200 students which pages contains the link to my user account "Io", it would realy be a problem if i had to change it.

Regards, and sorry again. Io — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.83.48.29 (talk) 11:03, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

I am no longer a steward, so you will have to go to m:SN to have this resolved. I apologize for the delay and inconvenience. --Rschen7754 01:24, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

A new reference tool

Hello Books & Bytes subscribers. There is a new Visual Editor reference feature in development called Citoid. It is designed to "auto-fill" references using a URL or DOI. We would really appreciate you testing whether TWL partners' references work in Citoid. Sharing your results will help the developers fix bugs and improve the system. If you have a few minutes, please visit the testing page for simple instructions on how to try this new tool. Regards, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:48, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Newspapers.com check-in

Hello Rschen7754,

You are receiving this message because you have a one-year subscription to Newspapers.com through the Wikipedia Library. This is a brief update, to remind you about that access:

  • Please make sure that you can still log in to your Newspapers.com account. If you are having trouble let me know.
  • Remember, if you find this source useful for your Wikipedia work, to include citations with links on Wikipedia. Links to partner resources are one of the few ways we can demonstrate usage and demand for accounts to our partners. The greater the linkage, the greater the likelihood a useful partnership will be renewed. Also, keep in mind that part of Newspapers.com is open access via the clipping function. Clippings allow you to identify particular articles, extract them from the original full sheet newspaper, and share them through unique URLs. Wikipedia users who click on a clipping link in your citation list will be able to access that particular article, and the full page of the paper if they come from the clipping, without needing to subscribe to Newspapers.com. For more information about how to use clippings, see http://www.newspapers.com/basics/#h-clips .
  • Do you write unusual articles using this partner's sources? Did access to this source create new opportunities for you in the Wikipedia community? If you have a unique story to share about your contributions, let me know and we can set up an opportunity for you to write a blog post about your work with one of our partner's resources.

Finally, we would greatly appreciate it if you filled out this short survey. Your input will help us to facilitate this particular partnership, and to discover what other partnerships and services the Wikipedia Library can offer.

Thank you,

Wikipedia Library Newspapers.com account coordinator HazelAB (talk) 14:17, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm on an extended sabbatical from Wikimedia for a few months to take care of real-life matters. I'm hoping to be back around May or June. I may come by and check on things, but I cannot guarantee a timely response. --Rschen7754 02:04, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

As an update, I've been checking in regularly, and have done quick tasks, but have been lacking the motivation to do anything substantial. Unfortunately, it will probably be this way for several more weeks. --Rschen7754 04:23, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

California State Route 125

Hello! I noticed that the length of California State Route 125 has been changed to 23.838. If possible, could you please update the "length reference" data field in the highway infobox? Thank you! AndyHe829 (talk) 16:47, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm not following - do you mean the reference that the 23.839 number is sourced to? --Rschen7754 01:12, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Sockpuppet investigation block opened

You were recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Sockpuppet investigation block. Given the legal, privacy and BLP implications of holding the case in public the Committee has decided to run the case completely in camera, to that effect there will be no public evidence submission or workshop. Editors with direct knowledge of the events and related evidence are requested to email their to arbcom-en-b lists.wikimedia.org by May 7, 2015 which is when evidence submission will close. For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration. For the Arbitration Committee, Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 07:01, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Well, I'm now a burned out ex-steward, so welcome to the club (or maybe it's the other way around...)   anyway, I was a bit unhappy with how the case was handled (there was a lot that went on behind the scenes after that SPI was closed, for several months). Maybe one day if I get some time I'll drop you an email explaining more. --Rschen7754 02:02, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Rschen. Quick question: how common are 4-level interchanges in California? I'm wondering if the four-level Kellogg Hill Interchange is worth a mention in the TFA text. - Dank (push to talk) 02:59, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

I would say fairly common, but this particular interchange is a bit different so it might be worth it. --Rschen7754 04:46, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
How so? - Dank (push to talk) 11:45, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
There's apparently an article on it, but there's 5 segments in the interchange instead of the usual 4. --Rschen7754 13:48, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Meh. Okay, have a look. - Dank (push to talk) 23:05, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
One question. "The final portion of the present-day Orange Freeway was not completed until the mid 1970s. The last piece of SR 57 to be added was formerly part of I-210, after SR 210 was extended to San Bernardino in 1998." So, the Orange Freeway and SR 57 aren't identical. But: "California State Route 57 (SR 57), also known as the Orange Freeway" ... for most of its length? - Dank (push to talk) 23:14, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
According to page 115 of [128] the Orange Freeway is from SR 1 (the unconstructed part) to CA-60, so it would be "for most of its length". (Which raises the question of why it's not in the article, of course... it's the one FA of mine that hasn't been updated recently, but I'm hoping to get to it soon, especially now that it is TFA). --Rschen7754 01:24, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
More tweaks ... see if that works for you. Trying to mesh it with TFA style, while staying accurate. - Dank (push to talk) 00:36, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
It should be SR 57 (with the nbsp), not Route 57, per WP:USSH. --Rschen7754 00:41, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

15:11, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Route 57

I got that from the article text (that's still there) ... "remains in the legal definition of Route 57". Should that one be changed too? - Dank (push to talk) 01:46, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Yes, it should be. I'm hoping to make my way through the article soon to fix it up. --Rschen7754 02:17, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Support request with team editing experiment project

Dear tech ambassadors, instead of spamming the Village Pump of each Wikipedia about my tiny project proposal for researching team editing (see here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Research_team_editing), I have decided to leave to your own discretion if the matter is relevant enough to inform a wider audience already. I would appreciate if you could appraise if the Wikipedia community you are more familiar with could have interest in testing group editing "on their own grounds" and with their own guidance. In a nutshell: it consists in editing pages as a group instead of as an individual. This social experiment might involve redefining some aspects of the workflow we are all used to, with the hope of creating a more friendly and collaborative environment since editing under a group umbrella creates less social exposure than traditional "individual editing". I send you this message also as a proof that the Inspire Campaign is already gearing up. As said I would appreciate of *you* just a comment on the talk page/endorsement of my project noting your general perception about the idea. Nothing else. Your contribution helps to shape the future! (which I hope it will be very bright, with colors, and Wikipedia everywhere) Regards from User:Micru on meta.

ANY RECOMMENDATION PLEASE?

Hello. It's Jennifer, an editor of Houston Chronicle. Seen that this free encyclopedia is full of inaccurate information and many pages contains spelling mistakes, I've decided to be a Wikipedia's member. It doesn't seem as smooth site and it appears as an arduous online magazine. Yesterday I contacted an adept contributor named User:Dougweller, nevertheless it'd be very favourable if you could give few advice.
