BeerAdvocate

edit

Rocketwidget:

There has been an unfortunate misunderstanding. We here at Wikipedia see dozens, if not hundreds, of articles every day which tout someone's website they just put up last week, and then they come to Wikipedia to write a vanity article about it. Your article on BeerAdvocate seemed, at first, to be yet another vanity article about someone's RILLY NEETO KEEN website they just put up last week.

As it happens, however, I'm a beer geek myself, and was able to find references to BeerAdvocate in a few major places (CNN, the Boston Globe). I've had a chat with Lucky6.9, and he has been fully appraised of the situation.

Your BeerAdvocate article has been restored, with extra information added. Apologies for the bumpy welcome. We hope this doesn't sour you on future edits at Wikipedia. Wikipedia:WikiProject Beer can always use more people ready to help improve our beer articles.

All the best,

  • I second, third and fourth that. Extreme Unction said it best. We who are active in patrolling new pages often wind up snuffing out perfectly legit articles on notable subjects. I concluded that the site was fairly new since the references were lacking. Everyone here welcomes you and encourages your continued contributions. - Lucky 6.9 03:10, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

RCS

edit

Hi I have seen that you made many good changes to RCS so think that you are knowledgable. There is a section in the article called 'Commercial Deployment' and the problem here is that it includes legacy RCS (pre-Universal Profile) networks which I can't even confirm if they are still active. If you know can you separate this section between legacy and Universal with notes of legacy ones switched off? Sucrehypsy (talk) 17:54, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Sucrehypsy I agree with you that this section seems old and out of date. Unfortunately I don't have much to add. What I basically know:
  • In the US, by 2024, the big 3 MNOs (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) are now all switched to using Google Jibe for RCS which is Universal Profile, and I *think* Apple's plan is for this to flow down to their many different MVNOs for Apple Messages, this has partially happened in the iOS 18 Beta, but not fully.
  • Globally, in Google Messages, if the carrier does not provide Universal Profile RCS, Google Messages provides it with Google Jibe
and that information is basically reflected in the big table. Which, I agree, otherwise seems to be full of outdated information! Sorry I don't have more to say about any of the non-US MNOs... Rocketwidget (talk) 18:31, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's OK still many thanks for your contributions. I too have made a load of contributions since yesterday, adding lots of vital missing information with sources, better explaining and improved sections/ordering/headings. I guess for that big table we can add a 'needs update' template for if someone else may know it. Sucrehypsy (talk) 18:09, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Sucrehypsy, now that iOS 18 has been released, Apple maintains a list of global carriers that support Universal Profile RCS (on iPhone). This list shouldn't include legacy RCS networks. This may be helpful (search for "RCS messaging"). https://support.apple.com/en-us/109526 Rocketwidget (talk) 00:18, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Google Messages RCS 2.7

edit

Hi, you seem to be very knowledgeable on RCS and I noticed you were the one who added that Google Messages is using RCS 2.7. Do you have any further information about this? Citation 113 mentions replies, which have been in Google Messages long prior to 2.7’s spec coming out (since about 2022 as far as I can tell), and while G Messages now supports editing, it doesn’t yet support undo send which is part of 2.7. It appears G Messages is working towards full 2.7 support, but it looks like they aren’t quite there yet, I think…?

Is there something I’m missing? It’s pretty confusing to research Google Messages because they don’t seem to fully follow any public specification. Machintosh-hd (talk) 05:12, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Machintosh-hd Thank you, I think this is my error. I assumed Google Messages had implemented 2.7 because it had some 2.7 features, but I didn't check them all. I've edited the article to this effect, feel free to further refine my edit. thanks! Rocketwidget (talk) 08:12, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
