Richard Lugg (talk) 18:07, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Rlugg Article on Nerva 1. Age at accession: I don't know what went wrong with the age at date template, said to have been transcluded on this page, but it is a matter of simple arithmetic that a person born on 8 November 30 (with his 66th birthday on 8 November 96) will be 65 on 18 September 96. 2. Length of reign: The only way a reign from 18 September 96 till 27 January 98 can be more than two years is if New Years Day occurred sometime between 27 January and 18 September, e.g. 15 March, as was the case in the old republic. But the article on Roman Calendar records that the change to 1 January took place in 153 BC. Furthermore, that article points out that the first day of the new year coincided with the first day of the consular term, and we are told that Nerva suffered a stroke on 1 January 98, at the start of his fourth consulship. Hence his term in office lasted 16 months and 10 days.
