The article Fanny and Alexander you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Fanny and Alexander for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. "Get Your Gunn"

edit
@Ribbet32: Hi! We've worked well together in the past, and I was wondering if you might be interested in reviewing "Get Your Gunn"; it's Marilyn Manson's first single and it was inspired by the murder of David Gunn, and abortionist, at the hands of a "pro-life" activist. It also feaures audio from R. Budd Dwyer's suicide. Let me know! --MagicatthemovieS (talk) 08:34, 19 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I'm not much interested in Marilyn Manson and am already in the midst of reviewing an article. Ribbet32 (talk) 00:18, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ethan Hawke

edit

Thanks for the catch. Just to clarify, the Academy website actually did have him listed in the lead actor category on Tuesday when I started adding the nominations to the article — obviously they've corrected that now, but I just wanted to clarify that the original mistake was on their part rather than mine. (They also originally had Sladen Pelletier's name spelled as "Sladien", though since I started the article about Indian Horse in the first place I already knew that was wrong.) Bearcat (talk) 18:23, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bearcat, never implied the mistake was yours, I also saw they had him listed as the lead and I originally marked him as such at Maudie. Ribbet32 (talk) 18:26, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
No worries. Weirdly, when I noticed that there were six actors and only four supporting actors on Tuesday I actually wondered whether they had "misfiled" one of the actors in the wrong category, but I had no way at the time to determine which one until they corrected it. Maybe I'm a bit psychic! Bearcat (talk) 21:59, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Also, if you have some time over the next day or two, could I prevail on you to assist in getting some more of the nominees added to the article? Pretty much the same thing happens every year: I add as many categories as I can before I'm literally about to go crazy if I don't take a break from it, but I'm invariably hard-pressed to find anybody who's actually willing to pitch in with much more than an isolated dabfix or spelling correction, so it ends up taking me over a week to get the article finished. So even if you're only able to tackle a few categories, it would still be a big help. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 22:31, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ribbet32. Could I ask why you thought a level 4im warning was appropriate in relation to this edit? Thanks, AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:14, 28 March 2018 (UTC) (please ping on reply)Reply

Massive content removal of referenced material for a second time and for dubious (no actual) reasons. Ribbet32 (talk) 02:17, 28 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Only warnings are generally reserved for serious cases of vandalism. Removing content with an edit summary probably doesn't meet Wikipedia:Vandalism#Blanking,_illegitimate, so an only warning is not appropriate. As the other editor is now claiming to be the article subject, I have asked them to take their concerns to the talk page. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:59, 28 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

The Royal Tenenbaums

edit

I see what you are getting at, but I think there is no need to worry since the article is really well written. I could not find any significant problems with the article, because it is "fool-proof", everything was covered, hence the smooth and speedy promotion. I gave it a pass as a Good article and I stand by my decision. It really is a great piece of work, and I think you might even get a chance to give it FA status. Relax and enjoy the outcome.--Seiya (talk) 17:25, 8 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Prix Iris

edit

The Canadian Screen Awards aren't a precedent for how we should or shouldn't number the Prix Iris. The CSAs were a completely new award that resulted from the merger of two formerly distinct awards — so the renumbering had to start from scratch, because would they have been the 33rd CSAs following on from the last Genies or the 27th CSAs following on from the last Geminis? But the Prix Iris wasn't a new award, it was just a renaming of what's still otherwise the same award as the Prix Jutra. I'm not necessarily going to revert you right away, because obviously there's an open question here — perhaps we should try to find an outside source to determine how it's officially numbered, and in fact it might even be that what we should really do is move them all to "XXth Gala du cinéma québécois" instead and just confine the Jutra/Iris problem to redirects — but its numbering doesn't automatically reset to 1st just because the CSAs did, because the situations aren't the same. Bearcat (talk) 19:11, 16 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I know the Canadian Screen Awards were created out of a merger. But the Prix Iris haven't been given out for 19-20 years; it seems odd in a nearly grammatical sense, so I was bold. Also, they can be seen as replacing the Jutras rather than being the same, and a new trophy was designed to boot. Instead of revert warring, contentious questions should go to Wikipedia:Requested moves. Ribbet32 (talk) 22:00, 16 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Your argument is merely WP:OTHERCRAP

edit

So what if WP:OTHERCRAP exists? That is no reason to make it a rule for all pages. You are trying to make an argument based on WP:OTHERCRAP. That is frowned upon. Just because it is written one way on Jaws doesn't mean that it is a rule for all pages. That is blatant WP:OTHERCRAP. --Nicholas0 (talk) 14:28, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Delay in Cache review

edit

Ribbet, I'd like to sincerely apologize for the delay on the review of Cache. I'd actually begun working on it around the 27th, but I've been in hospital since the 30th and only got out late last night. I'll be resuming the review this evening, provided you still want me to. Thank you for bearing with me thus far. Sock (tock talk) 14:49, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

About as late as can be, but I have now begun my review. You'll be glad to know that I think you're astoundingly close, and most of the changes I've proposed border on nitpicks. Great work. Sock (tock talk) 23:57, 11 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Moonrise Kingdom

edit

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Moonrise Kingdom has been completed. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

This is the first time I have come across a film article that contains examples set off in a "Notes" section. It will be interesting to see how the GA reviewer reacts to this. It's not wrong, just different.

Best of luck with the GA review.

Regards,

Thanks Twofingered Typist, there is a GA, Carrie (2002 film) by User:Gabriel Yuji, that previously did this. The GA reviewer (me) reacted favourably. Ribbet32 (talk) 00:22, 14 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Xavier Dolan Academy Awards nominations

edit

Hello there! There seems to be a misunderstanding about the editing of this section. Maybe if we talked about it we can come up with a more appropriate way of editing this article. This is how I see this: the section does not represent a nomination or a win for Xavier Dolan or for his movies. First, his three films were submitted for the award for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. If anything, the result sub-section should read "submitted" instead of "not nominated". Technically, none of his films were. Secondly, even if his films were nominated, the Academy's rules regarding foreign language films nominations are peculiar: the award goes to the country submitting the film and not directly to the director. For example, even though Denys Arcand's Les invasions barbares won the prize in 2004, he himself is not officially an Academy Award winner, even if he went on stage and accepted the trophy. Canada is considered the recipient of the Oscar. This rule kinda sucks but that's the way it is. So Dolan's movies were only submitted, not "not nominated". If we would play by this rule, does every film shortlisted for any Oscar category should be considered "not nominated"? In my opinion this does not represent grounds for inclusion on this page. And even if his films were nominated, he himself would not be the actual nominee. A simple mention that his films were submitted to represent Canada in the foreign language film race would be sufficient and a more accurate representation of his achievements.

What do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guinova (talkcontribs) 03:50, 17 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
