Um, would you like me to keep your talk page on my watchlist? I'll take it off, unless you don't mind me wikistalking you.. Michaelas10 20:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I'll do it myself from now on. I feel kinda rude having stuff archived when I haven't replied to them. I don't really mind running over a few headers, I'm not some sort of archiving fascist :) – Riana 02:42, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Riana, I really thank you for saying that all my pages should be kept. Bluwiki123 21:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure I should have said that, after this comment. I've prepared to give you leeway as a new user, but you really do need to remember that we're an encyclopedia, not a webhost. Adoption may be something to think about. – Riana 03:31, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

V-Tech protection

Thanks for the heads up. I have no problems with the time limit you set, we can always unprotect it manually after the vandal loses interest. Glad to see someone else watching out for this sort of stuff. -Loren 05:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: CSD AutoReason

edit

Thanks a lot. As for incorporating it into MediaWiki, I doubt the devs would put it straight into the software, but if it really catches on, we might get some consensus to put it into the Common.js file, so all admins can have it. ^demon[omg plz] 06:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I spend a lot of time patrolling Recent Changes,
Looking for destruction that's been wrought on our pages,
There are more silly people than I could possibly handle,
So thank you blocking this annoying vandal. --Dweller 09:32, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, while patrolling I noticed that you blocked Alantaylor222 indefinitely, even though this is a new user with only 5 edits. He has not even got a final warning yet. Would you consider reverting your decision and turning into a (say) 4 hour ban? Kind Regards, Sander123 09:35, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hi Riana. You issued a final warning to 212.88.34 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) on the 23 April, but they ignored it and added obscenities to Oscar Wilde today.(sorry I don't know how to provide diffs) They have been warned 16 times and have never been blocked, so it is about time they were. I tried 4 times to report it on the admin intervention page, but kept getting an edit conflict, so I am reporting it to you. Thanks Natalie West 16:48, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can you please deal with this... Utilisateur means "User" in French (per some people in IRC), so 129.2.151.202 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) and User talk:129.2.151.202 (edit | user page | history | links | watch | logs) are probably involved. Might be worth taking it to RFCN (88 could just be a reference to his birth year *shrug*). By the way, it's nice to see that a user I've welcomed has become so active :) – Riana 09:00, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow I'm surprised this isn't obvious to others. "88" is a nazi racial slogan and not only that, the user also created a page related to the subject. The probability of his name and the page being unrelated is very slim. Spellcast 09:18, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's very likely, but we have to AGF and all that. Tell you what, I'll keep an eye on him. – Riana 09:27, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I disagree. This may sound silly but I feel that it's as obvious as the following analogy. Let's say there was a username called "Klp69". "Klp69" then creates an article related to sexual positions. Again, the chances of the name and article contents not being related to each other is very small. Spellcast 09:57, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am aware of that. I have some experience with this sort of thing, after all :) I am keeping an eye on him. – Riana 09:59, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just to clarify, when you said it was "very likely", I thought you disagreeing with my reasoning, which is why I elaborated further. Anyway, the name was blocked afterall. Spellcast 12:25, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh and I didn't realise that some of the inappropriate usernames I reported to AIV were already blocked a day earlier. I'll check the logs next time! Spellcast 12:32, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blanking History of Allahabad

edit

Hi, I just changed a page and you sent a message that it was vandalism. I wish to tell you that several repeats had been made in that page and secondly since it was a page dealing with a city, all the information regarding that was broken into separate sets of information from one single page which happens to be the main page. I wasn't vandalizing, I was rearranging pages without those regular repeats of information. You can check that page and you will see how information has been broken into several separate pages from the main page where they ought to be. Hmmm its me 11:20, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm its me Well I can definitely discuss it on the talk page but a couple of minutes back there was a section in the same page which was to be merged with the main page, I did that, someone reverted it and deleted the section on the main page, it sent ripples in my stomach. And secondly if you have pages which somehow gets repeated on the main page and are also broken into separate internal links into other pages providing the same information, then the one viewing it who usually does not edit but uses wikipedia as reference will get all confused. That's why I did what I did, merging sections into the main page whereas removing the information which was repeated as an internal link separately and happened to be the same information, in the same format. Lastly I came across some information which was real vandalism gone totally unnoticed because the main page was instead broken down into sections, in one of the pages- someone had given someone else's phone number!!! I removed it and noticed that since the main page was broken, editors couldn't notice this flaw.Hey I got to go now. Hmmm its me 11:33, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please see Wikipedia:Protection policy#Content disputes. – Riana 14:39, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's a problem on policy pages, since in effect you've canonized a policy change that is being objected to. Mangoe 14:43, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, even when this change was simply part of a policy proposal masking as an essay (see Wikipedia talk:Attack sites) people were invoking it to make edits. Mangoe 14:54, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Riana did not protect the page in the "objected-to form." The policy as written reflects de facto policy, current best practise, and the ArbCom ruling, as several experienced administrators have explained to you. SlimVirgin (talk) 20:12, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, not really. It's only for a couple of days, Wikipedia won't die, with luck. No one ever protects the right version, anyway. Cheers, Moreschi Talk 14:57, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Belated welcome to WP:India

edit
Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Wikipedia.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! — Lost(talk) 17:31, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey Riana, I hope everything is good with you and that you're enjoying the weekend. I would like to introduce you to a friend of mine, User:HB4026, AKA Harrison. Mr Harrison has been registered since mid-February and he has been formally adopted by User:SGGH and rather informally by Steve and myself, so he doesn't need any NN stye supervision or major help or anything. He's doing well with editing and already has a DYK for an article he created (Judy Morris) and so I believe he's definitely here for the right reasons and not for socialising, but he's, understandably, keen to link in with some of the editors in his general age group (I'm not sure of his exact age but I take it he's around 16/17). I hope you don't mind but I have recommended you as an excellent Australian administrator. So if he ever drops by your talk page to say G'day or to ask for a hand with something, that's what it's about. Hope that's okay with you. Take care mate, Sarah 05:52, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

CSD I8

edit

Hello, I requested a clarification of I8 a while ago, and based on the ensuing discussion, I recommended a rephrase, and emended the CSD. The text stood for nine days without any problem, so I began to utilise it today to speedy image description pages of Commons media not on WP created solely for populating categories. The primary user who had been creating the IDPs then came to CSD, declared that I had acted without any discussion, and reverted the CSD (while also removing all the speedies). I reverted him, but Amarkov reverted me saying that there was no consensus. I believe he might have been mislead by the other user's statements on Talk, and I tried to clarify with him, but he seems to not be onwiki at the moment. I was hoping you could take a look and tell me what you think. TewfikTalk 18:08, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the note, Tewfik. I'm just about to duck out of here, but I was following the discussion on ANI. It appears that Timeshifter is now pursuing the discussion on WT:CSD, so I'll watch how it plays out for a little. – Riana 18:13, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate that you have to go, but perhaps you could at least verify whether there was indeed consensus? With both you and Amarkov going, it becomes extremely difficult to resolve this, as this user has a history. TewfikTalk 18:23, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi! A new version of Image:Lage raho munna bhai.JPG was uploaded by User:Grenavitar, as the previous one had some jpeg artifacts problems. Could you please visit the image and say if the image is ok for Fair Use? (the size is 70 kb, though Gren has told that the image can be resized.
