Metasequoia honshuenensis

edit

Hi Pixeltoo - yes; the Flora of China reference states "Name appeared after publication of the family treatment for the Flora of China", so they had not had the opportunity to investigate it at the time they went to publication. They are merely listing the name as having been published, without comment. The Kew World Checklist and Bibliography of Conifers (2nd edition 2003) dismisses it, as it also does Silba's "Metasequoia neopangaea" ("discovered" in a University gardens in New York!). The type specimen of "M. honshuenensis" is from a planted tree Riverside Municipal Park, near Grants Pass in Oregon; there is no evidence at all that it originates from any source other than the 1948 introduction from China. Silba is infamous among conifer taxonomists for his ludicrous proliferation of "new" taxa (of which there are dozens in his "Journal of the International Conifer Preservation Society", an unreviewed self-published publication - MPF 22:58, 5 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pixeltoo - "I saw many other Araucaria taxons discovered by Silba in New Caledonia. Are they all factitious ?". There are 13 New Caledonia species (none named by Silba) accepted by the Kew Checklist and other botanists; others described by Silba are best ignored - MPF 23:25, 12 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging for Image:Boehmeria_grandis_starr_020925_0129_.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Boehmeria_grandis_starr_020925_0129_.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

It was a mishap, I meant to save it as DualCitizenMap.PNG, but I typed the name first then selected the file, which overwrote my custom name, without me noticing. When I noticed I didn't really care. I'll move it again to there then. +Hexagon1 (talk)   12:32, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Image licenses

edit

A number of your images (for instance, Image:Schema_ARNt_448_658.png, used on Transport RNA) seem to be licensed under the GPL. This doesn't really make sense, as an image is not software. Would you consider changing the license to something more appropriate, such as CC-BY-SA? DES (talk) 01:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. How should I credit you when using the image? DES (talk) 13:25, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:My.mail.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:My.mail.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:28, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Worms (family)

edit

I caught your message at Phaedriel's talk. Unfortunately, she has not edited since September 2007, so she probably won't be prompt with your request. Taking a look at it, it was deleted because of WP:SU, the coordinated cleanup of the edits of a banned user. The information is now at Worm (disambiguation). bibliomaniac15 19:00, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think it would be better off if you started the article at Worms family yourself, because the last one was essentially a copy and paste of the Jewish Encyclopedia. bibliomaniac15 00:04, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
After some thought I've undeleted it, moved it to Worms family, and cleaned it up. Please work on it. bibliomaniac15 23:45, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello Pixeltoo! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Jan Kounen - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Daniel Cohen (economist) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Proposed deletion of Daniel Cohen (economist)

edit

The article Daniel Cohen (economist) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced BLP, no assertions of notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Nuujinn (talk) 11:38, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Category:Black Sea

edit

Is being only in hidden categories normal? I guess. If you look at the collection of categories named after something you get to Category:Eponymous categories. The reason these exist is the requirement that if you categorize a category, it should be valid for most of what is contained. I can't think of a category that covers, history, bodies of water, islands, drainage basins, ports, energy, and airbases, among others, what would be appropriate for all of this other then the Category:Eponymous categories tree? Note that I fixed an entry there that was a deletion discussion from 4 years ago that was plainly an error. While each case is different, in this one it would appear to be correct and appropriate. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Spiny butterfly ray, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vulnerable. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
