Adminship

edit

Hi, Kate. Are you interested in being nominated to become an administrator? Looking through your contribs, I see you have plenty of experience here, so I hope you'll consider! :) The admin tools can assist you with many Wikipedia tasks (though they may make editing even more addictive because you'll have more stuff to do ;)) Cheers, --PeaceNT (talk) 05:22, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excellent idea! Say yes Kate! Happy138 (talk) 06:58, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh...wow, I'm really flattered! I'd be honoured to be nominated :) Morhange (talk) 11:58, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Awesome! I'll be preparing a nom. :) Catch you later! --PeaceNT (talk) 13:17, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey, it's done here. Some standard instructions for a nominee are at Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/nominate#What_to_do_if_you_are_nominated_by_someone_else. :) Take a look and answer stuff at your RfA when you're ready. The questions will be a piece of cake for you, but I encourage you to have a look at some past RfAs to get a handle on the main points answers should generally focus on and how things often go, just to be prepared. :) Good luck! --PeaceNT (talk) 14:35, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

None of the questions have been answered, and it was already transcluded. Was that a mistake? Gwynand | TalkContribs 18:50, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

If you are online, I urge you to respond to the issue quickly. A request has been made that people hold off before voting until you come and give the answers. Gwynand | TalkContribs 18:54, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

RfA

edit

I took the liberty of removing your transcluded RfA from the main page until you have taken the time to answer the main questions. This was done for your benefit as some editors might view it in an unfavorable light. Best to have it transcluded once everything is all set. Cheers. Wisdom89 (T / C) 19:09, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Or at least kindly make a note indicating that you do not intend to answer the three main questions when you re-transclude. Thanks. Useight (talk) 19:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I realized that I had skipped that step. I'm working on the questions, but I don't want to post them up until I've got them down pretty good. Probably tonight, if I can. Thanks :) Morhange (talk) 19:21, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

RfA

edit

Hi. For the sake of your RfA, I think that you should answer the RfA questions. A lot of users have been scared away from support because of lack of info that the questions provide. Thanks, Erik the Red 2 (AVE·CAESAR) 01:38, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Morhange. The RfA doesn't seem to be going well as I expected it to be. I feel rather bad I didn't warn you in advance about the toughness of the process, but I hope you don't feel discouraged! :) I see there's a storm in your area that prevents you from spending much time around here at the moment. If you may find the time to answer the questions (people often ask a lot of things at RfAs! ;)), that would be great. No worries if circumstances don't allow it though, real life always is most important. I hope everything is going well. Also, congrats on the new DYK; a very good read it is. :) Best, --PeaceNT (talk) 17:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Your Rfa is going to fail and I'd bet the "re-apply in a few months" won't be much comfort, so I'd like to offer two, hopefully more soothing, observations.

First, remember that RfAs often fail on the slightest perceived fault, because many participants spend little if any time examining the candidate in depth. So don't let frustration turn into "so why should I get involved if these idiots don't value my contributions?"
Secondly, admin tools, while handy, are not particularly exciting. Pascal.Tesson (talk) 04:49, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Closed

edit

I've done the needful and closed your RFA per your request. I understand that real life responsibilities take precedent and can consume a lot of your time (and sleep is important!), so don't sweat it too much. Your withdrawal shows good judgment. Take heed of the suggestions made and areas in which you can diversify and I'm sure you'll have a successful candidacy in the future (if you still want to!). Just make sure that you have a week where you won't be too busy, and also ensure that you have at least 3-4 hours to watch the RFA after you transclude it - most of the initial questions are asked during this time. See also User:Balloonman/How to pass an RfA - sage advice that got me through mine relatively unscathed. Happy editing, –xeno (talk) 13:14, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your RfA

edit

A couple things about your RfA. First of all, I'd like to congratulate you for garnering as much support on there as you did. Second, I'd like to apologize for my original opposition, which, despite being fairly sound IMHO, seems completely unimportant in retrospect, especially in light of User:Mr. IP's very sensible comment. You seem like a very down-to-earth and personable editor--someone whose humanity isn't the least bit distorted or reduced by the digital medium. Third, please let me know if you apply or get nominated for RfA again. It's almost guaranteed that you would again have the strong support that I gave you this time around, even if it took me a while to come to my senses. Best wishes, Cosmic Latte (talk) 14:26, 17 July 2008 (UTC) (P.S.: As a bit of a "Titanicophile," I appreciate your Titanic-related contributions very much. Keep up the good work!)Reply

Hi, Kate. Don't worry about the result. It's no big deal. Chill out for a couple of months. Gain some more experience. At the time of your next application, try to ensure that you'll have a bit more time to engage in discussion and answering questions. Best wishes. Axl (talk) 15:27, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Line of succession

edit

Dear Morhange, Thanks for correcting me. I don't usually add new people to the end of the line, but I've been doing so in an attempt to get a complete list (we're only 800 people short). I completely realise that I'm not including the usual relationship statements or the divisions. I hope that either I or other editors will add these soon. I hope this meets with your approval. Line of succession again

edit

Dear Kate, Before suggesting something on the article talk page I wanted to pass something by you: what would you think about removing the numbers on the line of succession? It's indisputable that, for example, Countess Antonia of Castell-Castell is in line (she's currently listed as 1337) - but it is unlikely that she is actually no. 1337 (considering the number of possible additions, deletions, and errors in the first 1300). Any thoughts? Noel S McFerran (talk) 21:32, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello

edit

Hello, Morhange! First I want to thank you for helping me by adding the infoboxes. Now, I wanted to discuss the colours of the Template:Infobox Spanish Royalty. You've put red and yellow because those are the colours of the flag of Spain; I've done the same thing with Template:Infobox Norwegian Royalty because I couldn't think of any other colour that would make sense. Because of my lack of imagination Infobox Norwegian Royalty looks horrible, and now Infobox Spanish Royalty doesn't look so good either. Letters in colour generally look bad. Do I have your consent to revert the darker pink to Infobox Spanish Royalty? Please reply on my talk page. Surtsicna (talk) 13:59, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

IDR

edit

Hello, Morhange! I am actually glad you're asking. It all started with Greek royalty. You see, I found Template:Infobox Greek Royalty unnecessary, since every Greek royal is also a Danish royal. So, I redirected Template:Infobox Greek Royalty to Template:Infobox Danish Royalty and changed IDR's colour to blue, since it can be used for both Greek and Danish royals (I though blue is appropriate because it seems to be the dominant colour of both Coat of arms of Denmark and Coat of arms of Greece). Changing IDR's colour allowed me to get rid of the ugly shade of orange which was used by Infobox Norwegian Royalty and change INR's colour to red. I know, it's a bit complicated :) Surtsicna (talk) 18:08, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your first go round didn't go too well but if you're interested in giving it another go, let me know. Thurn und Taxis

edit

You reverted the addition of the legal name of Albert Prinz von Thurn und Taxis with the comment "as head of the family, his legal surname is furst von t&t, not prinz". This is however not true. Since all royal titles were declared void by law in Germany in 1919, it has been legal to carry such titles only as an integral part of the family name (i.e. not different to any Müller or Bauer). In the case of Thurn und Taxis this is in the form of Prinz von Thurn und Taxis. It is irrelevant if Albert himself would be "Prinz" or "Fürst" if the royal titles still would legally exist. His legal surname is nevertheless Prinz von Thurn und Taxis, not Fürst von Thurn und Taxis (and also not von Thurn und Taxis) - just like with the rest of his family. -134.93.52.128 (talk) 17:14, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:Cheeeeks.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

Hello, Morhange! I noticed you are in charge with watching modern royalty articles and keeping up with the latest information. If you happen to read something about Jordanian royals (such as birth or death of a prince) before I do, would you please notify me or edit the article about Line of succession to the Jordanian throne yourself? I'm asking because there are many princes of Jordan and all of them are in the line of succession. I would suggest you put the tennis rankings of Davis Cup semifinalists back in. We have rankings in individual player pages all over the place, and have had them in these articles forever. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Carljohannsweden1916-11.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 19:38, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Victoria's descendants

edit

Hello and season's greetings. This is just to let you know that I've been thinking on the same lines as you in cataloguing the descendants of Queen Victoria. Grandchildren of Victoria and Albert is such an orphan article (with few links from other articles) that it's only by a chance search in the search box that I found that much of the work I'd been contemplating had already been done. You can see that I've been doing a lot of formatting and trying to add details like dates. What you may not know is that a list very similar to your work-in-progress (and which I'd earlier been contemplating converting to Wikipedia form) on descendants of Victoria is already available (with dates, marriages and offspring) in almost any edition of Whitaker's Almanack, of which the latest one I own is 1999's. (I also have a reprint of the 1900 Whitaker's and some others from the early 1990's). But Ohio must have dozens if not hundreds of Whitaker's (a standard British reference equivalent to The World Almanac and Book of Facts or Le Petit Larousse) scattered around her libraries. I'd be glad to swap or share any information. If you'd like me to add anything to your user page on Victoria's descendants, let me know that, too. Royal titles

edit

Hello,

I don't wana fight but I'm afraid you stick to a concept that is unjustified. You write articles as if royal and noble titles were gained by birth. That is wrong.

The Gotha Almanach itself clarifies that it is based on national laws and also on international law (like Vienna Treaty). Therefore all the titles are not natural and eternal but are subject to law, national and international. This means, articles in WP cannot be written as if there were no legal acts concerning thrones and titles.

Furthermore, Habsburgs themselves recognise these laws and do not use titles. This makes absurd your wording of the articles.

I know in America it is popular game making huge family trees and taking pride in that. But it is just a game. In Hungary, many people speak in everyday life as if Hungary were as bg as 100 years ago and ignore any change of international borders or birth of new nations since that. Sometimes they try to influence WP articles that way. But this is the same game.

I summerize my point: WP cannot ignore national and international law on titles.

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James, Viscount Severn. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Infobox royalty

edit

Rather than simply adding |styles= to {{Infobox royalty}}, I suggest we create separate parameters for prefixes and suffixes, like those in {{Infobox person}}, even if we display them as you currently have the former.
