Stub articles on ITN

edit

There is no criteria against stub articles on ITN. The article will grow quickly enough once it has been linked from the main page. Thue | talk 10:51, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Articles are required to have a substantial update. One sentence is not a substantial update. Believe me, if it's a major event, the article will grow on its own. We shouldn't show it off too early; the Main Page is not meant to be a sandbox.--Pharos 10:54, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I don't believe that. I have seen many worthy news items, such as natural disasters killing thousands in 3rd world countries, not having articles, or having only stub articles. I think using ITN to kickstart such articles is reasonable; WIkipedia is a work in progress, and IMO ITN can reflect that. Thue | talk 11:01, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Patriarchate copyrights

edit

In the article about the Ecumenical Patriarch in the Greek wikipedia. These images can be used as long as u mention the source, as said here. The translation from Greeks is: The image is copurighted, but the copyright holder allows the usage of this image as long as the source is mentioned. Thus, I hope I have not violated any wikirule. I am not very much aware in uploading images. If there is something else u want to ask me to do about it, let me know. Regards Hectorian 22:17, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Last November, Pope met with the Patriarch in Istanbul. The Press Offices of Vatican and Ecumenical Patriarchate had created the site www.patriarchate.org with images, texts, sound and video from the historical meeting. The photos you mentioned have been copied from that site, which unfortunately is no longer on-line. I really do not know what happens with copyright in these cases. In any case, when these photos were uploaded, the specific web site allowed free use with attribution. Please let me know what can be done in this case...--Kostisl 00:03, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am afraid the site is different from the one at the previous address (www.patriarchate.org). I can now only find a "public gallery" (http://www.ecupatriarchate.org/gallery/main.php), which nevertheless does not mention anything about copyright. --Kostisl 13:09, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vote registration

edit

I didn't understand what voter registration would achieve. But as I learned some more I now understand that at least in USA you become able to vote and so on in the party itself. I don't know if I missed it last time. But I didn't see the point of why one would register. In Sweden we join the party itself seperate from any official government intervention because the government shouldn't know my political thoughts which they could prosecute you by. Seems everything is explained in the article, dunno what I was thinking. Lord Metroid 09:31, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

near by rock painting

about the animal sacrifice photo. I understand the objections to it staying where it is and really only began this tempest in a teapot because I'm sick and bored and feeling irritated. I am satisfied myself as to what I found. I think removing it would be wikipedia's loss, but that's okay too. Things come and things go. The woman with me at the time has had a fait amount of experience in the darker side of things and imediately knew/felt that it was a sacrifice scene. Perhaps you had to be there. Anyway, here is a picture of the rock painting that was looking down at all of us. Remember that this spot is . . .nowhere, on the way to nowhere. I discovered it because I was searching for petroglyphs and using line of sight navigation to reach the top of a nearby high hill. There are no paths out there. Anyway, nice to meet you, Pharos. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Neen.PNG)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Neen.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. typo

edit

Hi, I just wanted to point out a typo on this talk page. You have "Golden Age of / Hip Hop / Jan 15 - Feb 15 / 2005", but I reckon you mean, 2006. Ciao! Pinkville 04:25, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks; I really should add some more archives, huh? I just need a couple more decent Golden Age articles...--Pharos 05:22, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome. Well, there's Golden Age of Athens, Golden Age of India, Golden Age of Armenia, and of course Golden Age of Piracy. Right, you said "decent"... Golden Age of Athens it is. [At least until the others have been fleshed out a little.] ;~) Pinkville 05:34, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Recent moves re. Madagascar

edit

Please revert your recent moves. There's been discussion on this, and your unilateral actions are against consensus. Especially re. Talk:2006 Madagascan coup d'état attempt, where there's been an agreement to use "Madagascan". – Chacor 01:42, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Maybe so, but it's better to discuss first, especially since there's been prior discussion, don't you think? – Chacor 01:50, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please Alphabetize Names

edit

Hello -- you recently fixed the Ashkenazi-centric portriat collage on the Jew article. However, I am now wondering if you could please put the names in alphabetical order by last name. I've tried to figure out how I could do it myself, but I cannot figure out how to reorder to the photos. In the interest of fairness please do this. Thanks. --172.161.208.143 02:11, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that "aesthetics" or "visual balance" really matters much with such a low-resolution/grainy image. In this collage the women are still placed behind the men in the portrait; it's always best to alphabetize names in the interest of fairness and NPOV. --172.132.31.106 04:47, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Requested songs

edit

Hello Pharos, I noticed that you requested some songs, and since I'm a singer, I thought I'd let you know I'm interested! If you can either send me pdf's of the songs you'd most like, or give me some more particulars so I can find them, I'd be happy to see if I can record some of them. Category:Library of Congress images

edit

Any news on the reorganization of Category:Library of Congress images? Is it a candidate for speedy deletion based on CSD C1 or C3? --Iamunknown 07:00, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

What do you think about my edits to Image:3c22206t.gif and Image:21056r.jpg? I replaced Template:Library_of_Congress with Template:LOC-image + Template:Non-free fair use in. The problem that I realized afterwards is that whatever category Template:LOC-image dumped to would need to have a _ NOGALLERY _ tag exactly because of those two images (or more, if we tagged more copyright images with LOC-image). It is frustrating. --Iamunknown 05:38, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Campaign song

edit

, just the first verse, all twelve verses. I'm not sure the second one came out as well as I'd like, I think maybe my position wrt the microphone changed too much or something. I might try again later, but if I do I'll just upload it over the old one, or you could just add the short one to whichever article. Cheers, Mak (talk) 06:31, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's a variation of the same song/tune. What's in the link you gave me was just the introduction, though, I haven't been able to find an image of the actual verses, although that would make a good illustration. The accompaniment I did was just chords based on the chords given in the version you sent me. I think I'll try another version this afternoon, but if I don't upload it by tonight (EST) go ahead and do DYK. Cheers, Mak (talk) 18:01, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Andrew Jackson

edit

I placed a Request for Protection regarding the Andrew Jackson page in the appropriate forum. I'd ask that you take another look, and reconsider your very recent unprotect, as it's quite apparent that the vandals were simply "waiting in the weeds" for this article to be unprotected. The most recent vandalism was done in stages, and was rather complicated to undo. It would be simpler just to leave the protection on the article, as it would allow us to identify the vandals, and would probably decrease vandalism to almost nil on the article.K. Thanks for the support. I felt strongly that I was correct but frankly do not know enough about copyrights and did not want to get into an edit war over the speedy deletion tag. The image already got deleted..that was quick. Also, this is rather a silly question: do you have any suggestions for me so that I may become more knowledgeable about copyrights? I'd really appreciate any advice. Again, thanks much. --Iamunknown 04:29, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
