John zalewski

So here I was, putting a speedy tag on John zalewski and just as VP puts it on, I think I might see in passing something about "recreating a deleted page". Yeah, I did it. It was an accident. Could you RE-delete it and this time I won't re-create it so that you can re-delete it? Sorry about that. - Philippe | Talk 02:00, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

RE: Who's Now deletion

Man, why did u delete the who's now article? This isn't advertising. In America, there is a show called sportscenter. They are doing this special segment called Who's now. You can even watch the show for your self. I wasnt trying to advertise. I noticed other sportscenter special segments had an article, so i thought this one (Who's Now) needed one. I was planning to update the article every day. I really don't know why you deleted it dude. I was just trying to help out.

Camp Hermosa

Hello. I added my comments to the Camp Hermosa page. I guess I thought I'd get a reply before it actually was deleted. I did the hangon, and made a couple of modifications. I didn't think that it was blatant advertising for the Camp, or spam.

I still want to put something up for the camp. Any thoughts you may have would be helpful. Camphermosa 18:22, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: adminship

(... copied over from User talk:Mike Peel.)

I've been thinking this over for the last couple of days, and I've come to the conclusion that requesting adminship would be a good idea - there are some things that it would make easier for me to do (as you say, editing protected templates, etc.), and I can also help out with some of the backlogs requiring an administrator (e.g. speedy deletions, thus adding a bit more variety to what I do here). My concern about deleting unused templates was probably unwarranted; either passing them through WP:TfD, or turning them into redirects where appropriate, are proving to be the best ways of dealing with them.

So, would you be willing to nominate me for adminship? Mike Peel 22:09, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Hate messages of you on the news

Yeah, I'm basically cleaning out most of Category:Professional wrestling free use media partially because the majority of them (but not all) are decription pages for Commons images. Thankyou very much for the offer. -- Oakster  Talk  21:29, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Semiprotection of calendar dates

Hmmm. I don't really know! Semiprotection is so good for prevention, and yet it blocks off so many options for other people who are genuinely trying to contribute. But I do understand your point. I try not to be too heavy-handed with protections, but you're right in that these articles are reasonably heavily viewed, and therefore heavily edited. I'm not really sure where I stand - a village pump discussion might be good. ~ Riana 04:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Ultimate Play The game

Hi. I notice you've twice reverted my attempt at getting Ultimate Play The game speedily deleted. Perhaps you didn't notice the explanation I wrote, but this is a totally unecessary page. It's not linked to from any other articles, and it serves no purpose in any other way - if it didn't exitst and its title were entered verbatim into the search box, the correct article, Ultimate Play The Game, would be displayed directly with no redirection. I'm not going to revert again today because of 3RR, but as one of the maintainers of Ultimate Play The Game I was attempting to clean up uneccesary associated articles. Thanks, Miremare 23:19, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

OK, no problem. Cheers, Miremare 00:47, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Design News

I recently became aware of the Reed Business Information article and its magazine's articles. I noticed that most were very underdeveloped or flagged as blatant advertising, and I wanted to work to fix them. I have already made some of the pages and I want to make sure they don't sound like advertising, please look at some like Logistics Management and let me know what you think. I would rather write the articles right the first time with admins at my back than not and cause myself undue stress. bnut to get back to my main point, Design News has already been deleted twice (once by you) and I was just making sure I had some approval before I started it again. Would it be ok if I made a basic layout like the one I made for Logistics Management? i really appreciate feedback either way. Sean Montgomery 21:55, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

I disagree, and I quote

"A Wikipedia article, page, category, redirect or image created for the sole purpose of disparaging its subject is an attack page. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, these pages are subject to being deleted by any administrator at any time. Non-administrative users who find such pages should add the db-attack tag upon encountering them and the user who created them warned with"

He made this catagory as part of his continued attack on me. If you go to my discussion page you will see he has been disrespectful, rude and sarcastic and now this. I repeatedly asked him to stop messaging me in this way and he is still messaging me anyway. This is nothing more than an attack by Darren on me. --EdWood 16:25, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for starting the checkuser, however I think the net was cast too wide, I only thought that these four were related because they all sign two dashes and not using the tildes, [2], [3], [4], [5]. Mormon images

All pictures which deal with the science of the Book of Mormon like Image:Lands of the Book of Mormon.jpg are indeed fair use because they are of comparable educational value. The Gospel pictures like Image:Christ in America.jpg explain important LDS doctrine. So they are also of comparable educational value.Daniel3 18:39, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

All this images have an educational value and qualify for fair use! I think you have more problems with the Mormons.Daniel3 19:10, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

The images are used for Family Home Evening and I think this explains everything. Everybody is allowed to use them. This is the Gospel Art Picture Kit.Daniel3 19:29, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

You forgot to mention this:[6] Notwithstanding the foregoing, we reserve sole discretion and right to deny, revoke, or limit use of this site, including reproduction. It is not our responsibility, however, to determine what "Fair Use" means for persons wishing to use materials from this site. That remains wholly a responsibility of the user. Further, we are not required to give additional source citations, nor to guarantee that the materials are cleared for alternate uses. Such ultimately remains the responsibility of the user. However, the Church maintains the right to prevent infringement of its materials and to interpret "Fair Use" as it understands the law.

re User:DreamGuy (reduced) block

Hi. There is a discussion at WP:AN/I you may (or may not) wish to participate in. Cheers. LessHeard vanU 21:58, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

DreamGuy my response to those who have commented on this user's blocking

(Posted also on individual talk pages) Thank you to Bishonen, LessHeard vanU, Hamster Sandwich, Lsi john, Butseriouslyfolks, Pascal.Tesson & Evilclown93 for taking an interest in this matter. I appreciate the views you have provided and understand them all to be in good faith. I detail the following comments for historical purposes:

  1. For the record I do not get upset by comments made towards me on wikipedia. If you feel that I have, those feelings are incorrect, and I wish to go on the record as saying that I do not have any personal issue with or feelings against DreamGuy in any way.
  2. People will have different views on edit-warring. That was absolutely neither my intention nor, in my view a reflection of my actions in regards to Image:Daredevil46.jpg. DreamGuy placed a tag initially [7] on July 5th that said, This images has been deleted probably some 20 times now under various names.... no fair use, not cover art that was used as cover, needs a speedy delete as recreation of deleted image, and the guy who keeps uploading it needs to get blocked so he knows not to pull this crap.... I mean, seriously, how many times do we have to delete this thing, he's just stubbornly refusing to listen.
I assume as a part of his admin role Evilclown93 removed that tag as detailed here.
Dream Guy's reply (unknown to me at the time) was to suggest that Evilclown93 was a sock of the uploader.
It was only a few days later that I, also as a part of my admin role came across the speedy delete request and confronted with the above rationale, agreed with Evilclown93 views and removed the request stating in my edit notice: reverted edits by DreamGuy to that of Evilclown93 - who is not a "sock" but an admin. Pls use only correct speedy tags before replacing (if at all).
A further four days later, again just as a part of my admin role (see history of my admin work for that day) I came across the renewed speedy request, again with the above rationale. Confronted by no more information, I removed the speedy noting in the edit summary: Speedy deletion tag removed - awaiting a NPOV request that retains civility! You will note that I was talking about the content of the speedy deletion tag request of which I considered words such as the guy who keeps uploading it needs to get blocked so he knows not to pull this crap.... to be misplaced, no matter the frustration felt by Dream Guy. I then left the matter.
DreamGuy it appears renewed his request again and without alteration at which point Butseriouslyfolks removed it, it was renewed and then Butseriouslyfolks put it up at WP:FUR.
I came across it a day later and after I had left an adjusted canned message (which as most of you know includes a welcome to wikipedia line) on DreamGuy's talk page that also said, politely, Please assume good faith in relation to tagging an image for Speedy Delete. The reason that two (and now 3 admins) did not agree with your tag was made more and more obvious to you. Quite simply your request was polluted with a non-neutral POV and did not nothing to assist us in attending to the request. Please do not continue to suggest speedy deletion in this method - no matter what editor is frustrating you with their additions as it belittles your otherwise good work. Keep editing! My warning therefore was in relation to his edit-warring with three admins who did not agree with his method.
  3. In relation to blocking ... Following the posting at WP:FUR - at which I note Dream Guy has commented, he still reverted Butseriouslyfolks' removal of the speedy tag, even after Butseriouslyfolks wrote in his edit summary, Let's discuss it first, please?. Finding another reversion, despite an ongoing request at WP:FUR and noting that DreamGuy has been warned before and blocked before, and most importantly that whatever any admin did DreamGuy would revert, I blocked him for a period which I considered at the time to be commensurate with his previous block and the continued reversions. To the extent that others consider that amount of time excessive I thank you, and particularly to Pascal.Tesson for his revision of the time line.
  4. I note the comments above that in the opinion of an other editor Dream Guy is not the most polite individual on wikipedia, but he damned sure isn't the most acrid either and I agree totally. Whilst DreamGuy may not be able to accept that my message to him as detailed above was positive - I reiterate here again for all and sundry that I believe he is an otherwise good editor that was confronted by enormous frustration over the image he has been trying to delete. HOWEVER my job as I understand it is to assist in the protection of wikipedia. For those edits that relate to this matter - in my opinion DreamGuy needed to be blocked so that the process of deletion or otherwise of this image could be dealt with, without having to battle his continuing nose thumbing at the Good Faith decisions being made - especially with regards listing the matter at WP:FUR.
  5. I should end by also indicating that my becoming unavailable at the time I did had everything to do with it being 2.00am in the morning at my location (bed and pillow beckoned) and no other reasoning.

Again thank you all for your comments. Please let me know if anything at all needs further explaining. With best wishes --VS talk 02:05, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

RfA Self-noms and power-tripping

On Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/carlossuarez46, you mentioned that people should "...remind [me] also that many many editors have asked him to discuss this on WT:RFA rather than paste that sentence in every self-nom." I should point out to you that I did indeed attempt to discuss it there, and I was ignored. Not having yet been convinced that I am in error, I continue to do as I have.

Furthermore, one should only assume good faith in the absence of evidence to the contrary. It is my position that self-nominating oneself for adminship is evidence to the contrary. I am contributing very constructively, by doing my part to try and stop what I see as a dangerous slippery slope. Kurt Weber 23:22, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Image uploads problem

Hello. You have had previous experience dealing with problematic image uploads from Mattythewhite (talk · contribs) back in June 2007. This is just to notify you that since then, Mattythewhite has uploaded a large number of images with {{pd-self}} or {{cc-by-2.0}} tags: image uploads. I am working through them now, but it appears at first glance that these images may all be inaccurately tagged. I have already identified three copyright violations: Image:Michael chopra.jpg (source), Image:Fry wenger.jpg (source) , and Image:Stephen mcphee.jpg (source). I'll continue working through the images, but given the scale of the problem, attention from an administrator may be necessary. --Muchness 18:07, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Cat Rape Victims

User:SqueakBox has been at it again, by sneeking around and removing from articles the category, then getting it speedily removed without an XFD (you suggested an XFD last time he did it). Please look into it, if the community did not sanction the delete, I will have to recreate the cat. Also I took it to ANI Thanks Taprobanus 15:41, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes this user is extremely abusive. Something needs to be done about him; whatever he dislikes or disagrees with he takes action to remove it. This is very wrong. There are many articles I don't like in wikipedia but I do not go around nominating them for deletion. I grin and bare it and so should he. Fighting for Justice
Hi I was wondering if you have any ideas as to what will happen to the rape victim category. Judging by the comments, at DRV, the opinion seem evenly split for and against it. I see a lot of discussion, but no real conclusion. Who decides when the discussion is over? I hope I'm not coming across as impatient. I'm really not, I just want to know what's going to happen. I mean, after all, we can't debate it forever. Thanks in advance. Fighting for Justice 22:29, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
I havent claimed to be a grown man, you can judge that one for yourself, all I do on my user page is say who I am and where I am coming from, though acting like a man is vital to my work not just here but throughout my life, nor to the best of my knowledge have I sought bans on anybody re this issue and certainly not on FfJ for his user name. Depopulating based on policy vios doesnt need disciussing first, just afterwards. This cat is causing a lot of controversy and I am very unhappy that Zscout's speedy was reverted. I also take great care with civil so I see your comment as more of a rant than anything serious to be honest, please get your facts, provide diffs for your accusations etc etc. FfJ is blocked right now while this is what our founder thinks about this case, SqueakBox 21:07, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Good you can think for yourself! Me too. And I am very calm and if I do get worked up I go offline. I disagree that I am on a crusade but I do take privacy concerns very seriously and like many other people I dont believe wikipedia has the right to stalk or out its article subjects. If people give me a hard time (as they are) re this cat it just shows I am doing my job and I really think if we dont get these issues sorted the long term viability of the project is seriously threatened. This lis no lame eidt war, this is real life and the subjects of our articles are/were real people and that demands our respect. Hello Pascal

Hello Pascal.Tesson! I finally found out who put the welcome message on my userpage when I first came to wikipedia, and it was you!

Deletion of an article on Enerceuticals

Dear Pascal.Tesson, I only recently learned that last March you deleted an entry that I wrote under the heading "Enerceuticals." I understand that I can ask you for the reasons and to possibly clarify some of your concerns. I would appreciate learning more abbout the delete option and whether the article still exists somewhere within Wikipedia. Kind regards, W. John Martin, MD, PhD.

The reason why I proposed the deletion of the article was my belief that the term was a neologism that had yet to find wide acceptance. I had also the impression that you were introducing the article to promote your own work. Pascal.Tesson 02:17, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok

Pascal, I dont thingyou really should have speedied that in the middle of the AfD when it was similar to the others, and the others were being defended. G11 is for articles that cant be fixed, and A7 for those that make no claim to N. If there is any claim to N, or any chance of fixing, the place to decide is AfD. What it looks like, is that you got a little impatient, and I dont blame you either with that string of dubious articles. Butlet the afd play out--if you are right, the consensus will agree with you, & it will go. DGG (talk) 06:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

when I wrote this I had just seen the first of your speedies. I feel the same way about every one of them. In general, once something goes to afd is should stay there short of copyvio being discovered. What's the rush? DGG (talk) 07:17, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I've replied at some length to your comment on my talk page. But I ask you to undelete the following two:

Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok cites a number of awards, including "The Best of the Best and Top 50 Asia Hotels, Conde Nast Traveler (USA)", and "One of the Top 100 Hotels Worldwide and Top 20 Hotels in Asia, Travel + Leisure (USA)" You closed discussion before anyone had a chance to mention that--and it completely negates A7--a claim of awards from an internationally known publication is a bona fide claim to notability. Agreed, the distinctiveness of their awards might be debatable--and so it would be appropriate to have it debated. Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai " largest deluxe hotel in Shanghai and the largest of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts' 48 properties." -- 10 awards. All the more so in this case, "largest" has often been accepted as notable, & the awards include 2 from Conde Nast. DGG (talk) 20:10, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I just note here that you have declined to undelete. DGG (talk) 20:34, 30 July 2007 (UTC) (but there is no point arguing between us when we can see what others think. .DGG (talk) 20:44, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of essay

Just in case you missed it, I thought you might want to know that the essay you speedied after its author nominated it, was being actively discussed at Wikipedia talk:Don't template the regulars and Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Giggy. I'm not sure what is the right thing to do in cases like this, but I'm glad I made sure the main discussion took place on Wikipedia talk:Don't template the regulars. The discussions at Wikipedia talk:Template the regulars weren't that important I don't think - though you could check if you wanted to! And now I have to try and work out what to say at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars! What a mess. Carcharoth 23:13, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Even if I could undelete (I still enjoy editing too much to get organised for an RfA), I'm not sure whether undeleting would help much. Both the deletion and any undeletion could look bad and could make things worse. I think just keep an eye on the situation and make clear (as you have done) that you don't mind undeletion, though in the case of db-author, is it the author who should be asked if they mind undeletion? This is another reason why I was surprised by the db-author request. Anyway, I'm going to leave it for now and wait and see what others say. Carcharoth 23:24, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
