Relist request for Laura Mersini-Houghton deletion nomination discussion
Please relist Laura Mersini-Houghton for deletion discussion. Closing seemed premature given that the article had numerous issues as seen by countless tags for years. This means numerous editors had seen this article as problematic to say the least. Not enough time has passed for even a fraction of those editors to get familiar with the ongoing delete nomination. Note also that the article has a lone-wolf proponent of keeping the article, who immediately after the delete nomination attempted to forge a major overhaul without any discussion whatsoever. His edit is biased at best since it tries to portray the person the article is about as notable despite the fact that this person does not meet any academic notability criteria, as noted by several editors during delete discussion. If you read his proposed intro paragraph you'll see that the person's claimed notability is in "proposing a controversial theory" which however is nonsense: there are thousands of theories and all are controversial until proven correct. Thanks. Holybeef (talk) 03:48, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Holybeef: I hesitate to relist this and feel that the close is fair and correct in this case. Consensus is actually leaning toward a keep result, but is not quite there in my opinion to be closed as such. I understand that you are for deletion of the article, but only one other contributor to the discussion was for this. Conversely, there are many keep !votes that are policy based regarding this borderline case in terms of notability.
- There was adequate participation to the page per AfD standards, and the no consensus close is aligned with the overall merits of the arguments therein. Furthermore, it's unlikely that relisting will lead to a clearer consensus in this matter; the discussion is rather long and detailed.
- WP:RELIST states “...relisting should not be a substitute for a "no consensus" closure. If the closer feels there has been substantive debate, disparate opinions supported by policy have been expressed, and consensus has not been achieved, a no-consensus close may be preferable.”
- The presence of maintenance templates on the article page is not a reason to relist, nor is the concept of a discussion participant or article editor being a “lone-wolf proponent”.
- Discussion of editing matters should occur on the article's talk page.
- Please feel free to respond at your convenience regarding this matter. NorthAmerica1000 04:24, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- Also, I have addended the close at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Laura Mersini-Houghton in hopes to better explain the no consensus result. NorthAmerica1000 06:03, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for such a prompt response. We had a single editor Tomwsulcer who felt strongly to keep, and who created an impression of overwhelming support for keep. For this, he used tricks such as "sudden" reversal of several delete votes. Simply put, it can't be that so many editors would misunderstand the discussion procedure and subsequently choose to make a nomination personal instead of using arguments. He tried to make this personal by accusing me falsely of vandalism (over reverting his major edit he had made w/o any discussion whatsoever). He then tried to do his POV overhaul twice: once immediately after the article was nominated for deletion (which would render any nomination discussion useless) and then again immediately after the nomination discussion was closed. This speaks volumes about what motivates the editor who was the driver behind the keep campaign. Logically then, how can votes which appear to have been solicited be any more reliable? At best, most voters are not really interested in procedures for proving academic notability. Importantly, to keep is in clear opposition to academic notability rules; I'd like to remind you that you shouldn't merely count votes or give your predictions in a "what if" way, but look into the matter to see if notability has been proven or not during the nomination. Otherwise we would be using bots for closing. Holybeef (talk) 06:35, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'm well aware that AfD discussions are based upon the weight of commentary, and not an !vote count. The close was based upon the strengths of the arguments therein, and the close was carefully determined based upon those arguments. NorthAmerica1000 08:06, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- Generally NorthAmerica I thought your no consensus closure of Mersini-Houghton was fair, although I would have preferred a decision to keep. But the problem remains: specifically, there is a POV-pushing contributor, Holybeef, who repeatedly reverts my much-improved version of the article, in which practically every line was referenced, reverted to the problematic version of the article, with few inline references. Consider that Holybeef reverted the article to a version that he wanted vehemently to delete despite most contributors in the deletion discussion (all but two) agreeing that Mersini-Houghton was notable. This is borderline vandalism. Please revert Holybeef and please continue to monitor the article.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 10:59, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input. Regarding the article's content, continuing to discuss matters on the article's talk page as has occurred is often the best means to resolve content conflicts. It's prudent for me to not immediately jump into the fray of the article's content at this time, although I may involve myself at a later time. Regarding content conflicts, also check out WP:BRD. NorthAmerica1000 11:29, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- A fresh example (from the above discussion) on what sort of manipulation user Tomwsulcer engages in: though he thanked you in the above for no consensus versus keep close (meaning he understands the difference), still on the article's talk page he claims "the community's decision not to delete" was made. Not to mention clear misrepresentations in his overhaul attempt, such as with the claims: no-black-holes (the credit for which goes to Stephen Hawking, not the person the article is about), and the dark-flow-as-evidence-of-other-universes (recently debunked by a 175-strong Planck satellite mission collaboration); see article's talk for details. And so on, the list of his manipulations continues. Funny thing is: they're all easily demonstrable, yet he continues to claim it to be vandalism whenever I expose his manipulations. I'm feeling a bit of Chilling effect. Holybeef (talk) 15:19, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Into the Woods (Warriors) afd
Hello, NA1K! Looks like your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Into the Woods (Warriors) neglected to redirect the other two articles nominated in the same AFD, which were Escape from the Forest and Return to the Clans. Was this deliberate, or an oversight? -- Mikeblas (talk) 13:01, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- Fixed. User:Mikeblas: Thanks very, very much for the notice. I am usually very good at not missing these types of matters, but in this case it was an oversight. Another editor performed the redirect of Return to the Clans and I completed the redirect for Escape from the Forest. NorthAmerica1000 17:08, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: User:Coffeeholicbear/Dicamax
Hello Northamerica1000. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:Coffeeholicbear/Dicamax, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: User does exist, or this is not a user page. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 15:44, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Malik Shabazz: I've tagged similar pages as this for speedy deletion WP:U2 (with the result being delete) after checking Special:ListUsers, (see [1]), the user's contribution history ([2], in which case their only contribution is to the user subpage), and confirming that a user page ([User:Coffeeholicbear]) and user talk page ([User talk:Coffeeholicbear]) do not exist. Am I missing something at Special:ListUsers? NorthAmerica1000 20:47, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think so. Speedy deletion criterion U2 is intended for "User pages of users that do not exist", and since Coffeeholicbear does exist—even if she/he has no User page or User Talk page—I don't think User:Coffeeholicbear/Dicamax qualifies for U2 speedy deletion. Try U5 instead. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 20:54, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Malik Shabazz: It seems that people have different interpretations of WP:U2. For example, I tagged User:02tyu/Comedy Circus ke Taansen and User:02tyu/The Sixth Form at St. Clare's for speedy deletion per WP:U2 which resulted in deletion, and these were user subpages that existed in the same situation. They were user subpages in which Special:Listusers showed that no account existed in terms of no user page or talk page, and were accordingly deleted. NorthAmerica1000 21:02, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

Request to close discussion
Hi, I was kindly referred to you by another editor regarding an AFD discussion at Flavia C. Gernatt. I wondered if you might comment and close the discussion. Thank you, Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 15:55, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

- At your convenience, I have another request for closure on the Daniel and Flavia Gernatt Family Foundation, perhaps sometime tomorrow or over the weekend. Notability is established in the article, and it appears to have been an outgrowth of the prior situation with a particular editor. Voting regarding the article is as follows: 2 for keep; 1 for keep or merge; 1 for merge and redirect; 2 for delete; and 1 for delete or redirect. Thanks very much, Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 14:32, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
- User:Daniellagreen: I may or may not become involved in the discussion. Regardless, it's important to keep in mind that AfD discussions are not a vote count; rather, closures are based upon the strengths of the arguments therein relative to Wikipedia guidelines and policies. Just curious
Please don't interpret this as any kind of provocation, I'm just curious as to why you relisted Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nabi Su? It has three editors advocating deletion, one expressing no opinion and only the page creator advocating it being kept. Bellerophon talk to me 09:32, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Bellerophon: One of the main contributors to the Nabi Su article (User:Mary Vaccaro) is a relatively new user that has contributed mostly to the article and may not be familiar with procedures at Articles for deletion, (e.g. beginning an !vote in bold). The user had significant concerns and made extended comments in the discussion regarding the topic's notability. It's plainly apparent that they want the article retained, so their commentary essentially serves a keep !vote despite not being formatted as such. It was prudent to relist to allow time for users to respond to the commentary therein, if any are interested in doing so. NorthAmerica1000 00:35, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
- N.b. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nabi Su closed as delete, and the article was userfied to User:Mary Vaccaro/Nabi Su. NorthAmerica1000 22:02, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
A year and a half after you opposed my RfA
I am inviting you to leave me some feedback, 18 months after you opposed my RfA. Do you still believe I am not fit to be an admin? Do you believe I have been able to improve past the concerns you have brought up? Do not be afraid of being too harsh, I am specifically welcoming criticism as I believe it is the best way to improve and I am always looking to learn from my mistakes. I am particularly looking for feedback as to whether you have objections to myself lifting the self-imposed 1RR restriction I had agreed to towards the end of my RfA. If you don't have time to comment, don't fret it either, this is nothing I'll lose sleep over. :) ☺ · Salvidrim! · ✉ 19:48, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

- @User:McGeddon, User:Lugnuts: Very sorry about this. An error occurred when I relisted a discussion, in which a timeout occurred. It's unclear if this occurred due to the script I was using
(WP:FWDS)or for another reason. When I relistedusing FWDS, it didn't take, so in my next edit I manually added the relisted entry. Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to List of government-owned companies may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.
- List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
- * [[:Category:Lists of companies|Lists of companies]] <small>(category}</small>

Thanks.
Thanks for The Food Barnstar. Karrattul (talk) 12:34, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Karrattul: Surely, and thanks again for creating the new Pukala article. NorthAmerica1000 12:36, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
What was that?
Howdy, I noticed you doing this?? Are you using any type of script to do that?? Cheers, Jim Carter (from public cyber) 07:40, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:Jim Cartar: In the instance of the diff above, no, I simply performed the removal of white space manually. One script that can perform this is Wikipedia:AutoEd, if you're interested in learning about it. However, AutoEd is for articles; I don't recommend using it for AfD discussions. NorthAmerica1000 07:42, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I don't want to make thousands of edits using those tools. I have used AWB once, but I don't use it anymore. Making hundreds of edits which not significantly help the project is useless. I use Twinkle & popups and nothing else. Thanks again, Jim Carter (from public cyber) 10:50, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- (ping) User:Jim Cartar: I tend to use AutoEd to easily format articles to remove white space and for those that I edit; its use can make editing easier because it formats everything uniformly and consistently. NorthAmerica1000 11:49, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yep, you need that since you are a list creating machine. How many lists have you started? 100+?? Jim Carter (from public cyber) 12:16, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- (ping) User:Jim Cartar: Check out my Contributions page. NorthAmerica1000 12:18, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oo.. Such a huge list. There must be a page with the title "List of lists created by Northamerica1000" . Anyway, good work! Jim Carter (from public cyber) 15:38, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Nomination of List of motels for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of motels is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of motels until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. John from Idegon (talk) 07:06, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi! I never ever look at whose is behind an article before I do whatever I feel needs to be done. I honestly do feel that this is list that has no purpose, but out of respect for you, I am going to withdraw the nom, and I will get back to you on collaborating to do something that is doable. it is bedtime for me right now, but I am more than happy to discuss this in detail with you at a later time. Look forward to talking to you. You are an editor of the highest esteem, but we are going to have to agree to disagree on what you have now and possibly try to work together for something that will be of service to our readers. Hope that is agreeable to you. Goodnight and I will talk to you soon. John from Idegon (talk) 07:43, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
- Note that I was in the process of reformatting the article when it was nominated for deletion. Check it out now: it's in table format, denotes motels listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and provides summaries. It is still under construction at this time. NorthAmerica1000 09:10, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
- That seems like a much more workable idea....page move to a better title when you are done? John from Idegon (talk) 09:13, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
- I think the title is fine, because it states exactly what the article is. NorthAmerica1000 09:14, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

AfD relisting
I attempted to relist my first AFD, can you please check if I did it correctly because it hasn't come onto todays log. See dif here.
Just fixed it no need to worry :) NickGibson3900 - Talk - Sign my Guestbook 08:36, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi User:NickGibson3900: upon perusing your User contributions, it doesn't appear that you commented out previous AfD log entries after listing them to the current log page. You need to go back to the original log page(s) where the discussions are listed and comment them out, so there are no duplicate entries in the AfD log pages. In other words, an AfD listing should only appear on one log page, rather than multiple ones. The format for commenting out is as follows: <!-- {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ARTICLE NAME}} -->. NorthAmerica1000 09:11, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- Also, please read WP:RELIST for an overview of the relisting process. Thank you. NorthAmerica1000 09:22, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
Fixed. Thanks for all your help. Now I can help with delisting without stuffing up. BTW is there a script for it? NickGibson3900 - Talk - Sign my Guestbook 10:05, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- (ping) User:NickGibson3900: User:Mr.Z-man/closeAFD has a relist function, which I use. However, I double check (and recommend that others do so too) after relisting to ensure that all functions have occurred, which include adding the discussion to the current AfD log page, commenting out the entry from the previous log, and adding the relist template. To double check, I periodically view my contributions page when performing relistings. NorthAmerica1000 04:32, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
