Adolphus "Doc" Cheatham told me that he was playing third trumpet with Count Basie in 1931 and by 1933 he was playing first trumpet.( Is the reference to Cab Calloway incorrect? He told me that he had studied with Max Schlossberg for 6 months in 1931. This was a personal discussion during a sunday concert in Greenwich Village 3 years before his death.
