NorCalHistory
I am taking an indefinite wikibreak.
I'll probably continue to make small fixes as I read pages, but I'll be away from active editing for awhile. Keep up the good work! |

editThanks to all for everything!
editThis has been an very interesting experience - thank you, thank you! BTW, according to a wikichart, it appears that some 2,500,000 readers saw the Feb. 14, 2007 Main page with the article intro, and some 100,000 readers clicked through to the article itself. editThank you for contributions to the project, Great work on California Gold Rush, and congrats on getting it as a WP:TFA back in February! May you wear the crowns well. Cirt (talk) 20:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Britannica
editThe major objection to using the Britannica is that it is a tertiary source, as we are; it would be better to use the Britannica's sources, in an effort to be as reliable as EB is.
The accessibility issue is minor; we normally don't worry about accessibility if something is published, because someone will be able to check; and most of the Britannica's articles are also in the print edition, widely available. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 21:32, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I would not view it as an absolute prohibition; but it is a weak citation; and certainly should be deprecated. Anything which can be sourced outside EB really ought to be; on the other hand, EB is one step up from the matters of common knowledge which don't require citation at all, even in FA's. See WP:WHEN. Mount Shasta, California and semi-protect request
editReplied on my talk page. -- Spireguy (talk) 21:19, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome: the current semi-protection is for a month, so we'll see how it goes after that. Acalamari 22:44, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- On a similar note, I noticed you revert vandalism occasionally. Would you like me to grant your account rollback rights? It'll help you revert vandalism more quickly, but just remember it's only for reverting vandalism, and not to revert good-faith edit or for use in revert wars. Acalamari 22:54, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Rollback granted. :) If you're interested in practice before use in the mainspace, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 23:10, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

California Clipper 500.jpg
editAn improved version. I hope it could be useful. Marion Touvel--62.35.238.79 (talk) 18:22, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes I want to submit this article as a featured article in French. For the French version, I need to translate the maps and to explain the French historic context (French Revolution of 1848, French Second Republic, and Second French Empire). For example, there is a French book (500 pages!) only about the Breton people in the California gold rush. --62.35.238.79 (talk) 10:14, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Invitation to join WikiProject United States
editStrait of Anian map
editI just updated Strait of Anián. In 2006 you released [*[Image:Map North America 1540 Strait of Anian.png]]. Do you still have the source? If so: Who was the author or publisher? Does the word Anian appear on it or accompany it? If so the first publication of this name will have to be backdated 20 years. In the upper left corner, what is the word following 'India'? It may be Superior or Septentrionalis or something. Thanks, Benjamin Trovato (talk) 23:57, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

The file File:California Gold Rush relief map.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Orphaned map.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~ Rob13Talk 17:14, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of The Hero's Journey (film)
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on The Hero's Journey (film) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. editImage source problem with File:Okwanuchu Tribal Territory.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Okwanuchu Tribal Territory.jpg.
This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.
If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:18, 12 January 2024 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
