Adoption
editHello, NatalieOne. I see you're looking to be adopted. I would be happy to adopt you. I've been on Wikipedia for about seven months, and have made more than three thousand edits. In addition to my edits to articles (which I try to keep as the majority of my edits), I've also been involved in a variety of different Wikipedia administrative processes (including WP:WQA, WP:BLPN, WP:AFD, WP:PROD, and WP:RFC). I have a pretty solid grasp of Wikipedia policy, and know where to look if there's ever something I don't know. On the downside, I'm not really very good at using Wikimarkup to make pages look pretty, so if that's a major focus you may want to look elsewhere. In any event, if you're interested in being adopted by me, just drop me a line on my talk page. Sarcasticidealist 00:26, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Natalie (if I may call you that - I'm Steve) - I'm certainly still available, and I'd be pleased to adopt you. Perhaps we could start with you telling me some of your reasons for being on Wikipedia, as well as what you hope to accomplish in the short-term. Besides that, you could of course ask me any questions you might have about Wikipedia at this juncture. Sarcasticidealist 18:28, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Just a note that I have been looking over your edits, and that I don't see any problems as yet. You're using edit summaries, which is great, and you seem to have a good understanding of what qualifies as a minor edit. Most of your edits to the mainspace have been pretty minor (i.e. not adding any new information, just reorganizing/rewriting/reformatting what's already there), but you're adding sources whenever you do include new information, which is important.
- The only concern I have - and it's an extremely minor one - is that this edit might fail WP:NPOV, as it reads as a bit of a promotional blurb for the historical society. But that's certainly not a major issue. Sarcasticidealist 05:50, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and to answer your question here: no. The threshold for information to be included on Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth - even if something is true and you know it to be true, it needs to be cited from a reliable source. If you want, you can try adding the information to the article without a source, but then it can be deleted by any editor at any time (and they will be right to do so, since by including unsourced information you will technically have violated Wikipedia policy, although there won't be any consequences for you unless you persistently re-add it).
- Is there no published source you could find for this information? Sarcasticidealist 06:00, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, sources on Wikipedia don't need to be online (in fact, I would argue that Wikipedia is at its most useful when it provides information online that was previously only available offline). Just list the source without a link.
- Also, if you copied the historical association text directly from the website, you may have also violated WP:COPYVIO, which is a little more serious than WP:NPOV. I can't imagine anybody caring in this instance, but for future reference, it's a bad idea to copy text directly from another website unless it's specifically indicated to be a quote. Looks good
editHi NatalieOne, your user page looks good, but I would direct comments to this talk page and not have people add comments on your user page. Glad to be of assistance and ask if I can be of further help. Keep up the good work, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:52, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
It's pretty easy
editTo move imges left or right you just add the word "left" ro "right" to the image tag. I'm going to make the change now, but look at how I do it so you can adjust them if you don't like the ones I move. futurebird 16:42, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Come on, Natalie, this sort of thing is exactly what I'm here for! Make some better use of your adopter, or I'm going to feel useless (a smilie would go here if I believed in them). Sarcasticidealist 23:10, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Adoption
editHi Natalie - I see you haven't been on Wikipedia for a while. With that in mind, I'm going to remove the adoption banner from your site (and the corresponding one from mine). I'll be more than happy to resume the relationship should you return, but for now the banner is just sort of cluttering up my page without meaning anything. I hope all is well, and please do contact me if you return! Sarcasticidealist (talk) 07:28, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
