Potassium ferricyanide

edit

Hi and thanks for the pic of part of the potassium ferricyanide structure. You might consider expanding the contents of the structure to show how the K+ and Fe(CN)63- units are linked. Such a picture would better help readers understand more that the ChemDraw. If you need some help, let me know. --Smokefoot (talk) 00:04, 12 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

3D models of molecules

edit

Hi Mplanine, thanks for this edit you made, adding File:Cis-3-methylfentanyl.png to the 3-Methylfentanyl article. It's a beautiful image and I see you've uploaded many others in this style. Could you add descriptions to those images to explain how the molecular geometry was determined in each case? I looked up 3-methylfentanyl in the Cambridge Structural Database and found the nitrate as entry PEPNPR01. The piperidine ring has a very different conformation in that crystal structure compared to your diagram. If your structures are minimised computationally, that would usually be discouraged as OR unless you have references confirming the precise geometry is effectively the same. Many thanks! --Ben (talk) 09:50, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Should be all fixed now, thanks for the link to the crystallographic data. They seem to have formed a crystal with nitrate and isopropanol, but once those were removed it was easy to generate a new image from those atomic coordinates. Thanks for the help. Mplanine (talk) 21:57, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes i can update it with the structures published from an X-ray crystallography study and include that as a source. Mplanine (talk) 14:18, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Mplanine, the new image is great and having a reference in the description is excellent. It's definitely worth applying the same rigour to new images if possible. A quick search of https://www.ccdc.cam.ac.uk/structures/ and/or https://www.crystallography.net/cod/search.html will give you a reliable structure for most compounds if you have the time to try out different search terms and sift through the results. The best way to do it is using the structure search feature, but that's only available if you have a subscription (usually through your institution). Several editors at WT:CHEM have access and can help, so it's worth asking there. I'm happy to help too, just ask. Good luck! --Ben (talk) 23:34, 4 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the links, time permitting I can update some existing contributions with empirical structural data. I use linux mint so my pipeline is GChemPaint > Avogadro > GIMP to generate these images. Thanks again for the help, let me know how I can be of assistance to you anytime. Cheers, Marco Mplanine (talk) 20:30, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Ohmefentanyl into Draft:4''-fluoro-ohmfentanyl. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 20:23, 21 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

You got it! I generated the page primarily to create a home for the technical information that is now available on this chemical. Crediting the source of the text is always a good idea. Thanks. Marco (Planine) Troiani (talk) 06:11, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dianna's, Thank you for your assistance in this matter. I'm eager to properly cite all Wikipedia content, and appreciate your guidance. Perhaps my thinking here was in error, but i copied the content including the references, so that they appeared on the new page as they did on the old. My thinking was that the source was carried through for the reader to access.

But if I'm understanding correctly, this is about attributing the author of the original text. It seems your recommendation will allow that Wikipedia user to receive credit for their writing, which my system of citation failed to properly credit.

I will attempt to fix this once I'm back at my computer, and would appreciate any help in executing this task properly.

Thank you and sorry again for my mistakes,

Added chemical drawings

Hello Mplanine. I noticed that you have added another of your ball-and-stick drawings at mirfentanil but you have not responded to Smokefoot's ping at WT:WikiProject Chemistry#Structural drawings by Mplanine where he and I wanted to discuss the wider issue of using this type of diagram. Please engage with us there, bearing in mind that the policy at WP:ONUS is that an editor wishing to add contentious content must establish consensus to do so.
