Alaska

edit

On the IfD page you wrote: "...you didn't invade Alaska?!? *throws book out window*"

1 - the following is an extract from the Wikipedia article for Alaska:

"At the instigation of U.S. Secretary of State William Seward, the United States Senate approved the purchase of Alaska from Russia for $7,200,000 ($90,000,000 approx in 2003) on 9 April 1867, and the United States flag was raised on 18 October of that same year (now called Alaska Day). Coincident with the ownership change, the de facto International Date Line was moved westward, and Alaska changed from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, therefore, for residents, Friday, October 6, 1867 was followed by Friday, October 18, 1867... two Fridays in a row because of the date line shift."

2 - What book did you throw out the window?

Old Man: Inaccuracy?

Why did you delete the statement that the torches defend the Old Man by shooting fireballs? This is entirely true, at least in the original Legend of Zelda (I don't know about BS Zelda - is this one of the differences in that game?). Deco 09:51, 8 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

No, I *added* that line, but I removed Bandai. Someone asked me the other day about whether Bandai had really made it, and I'm not actually sure (no logos on the box etc.) so I'm looking into that. Master Thief Garrett 09:58, 8 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Shenrons

edit

Okay Mr Man, if you insist, I will merge all of the Shenron articles (with the exception of the most important one). But if I do, does that mean I can go around merging all kinds of articles? Example: could I merge the articles De Lorean Motor Company and De Lorean DMC-12? As the said company only produced the one car. Or ALL the individual Pokemon articles, with the possible exception of Pikachu as thats the only one anyone's ever heard of? I thinks all of these things, and more, deserve their own articles, for the simple reason that Wikipedia is not paper. User:Supersaiyanplough 04:00, 11 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Help w/properly listing VfD

edit

You seem pretty knowledgeable about some procedural stuff. Cruising thru "Deadend" and found Anvil with the book which has a VfD tag & a VfD page but I can't find it on the daily VfD logs or master VfD list. Seems like the listing process got stalled somewhere along the way. I'm a little reluctant to attempt to list it myself just in case my slow connection + my large browser caching + temporary blindness means it's already there and I just missed it. Could you double-check this, please? Also, if the VfD listing process was incomplete, I would greatly appreciate a line or two on my talk page explaining what happened and how you fixed it so I can do it myself in the future. Thanks very much. Soundguy99 17:02, 12 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I'm clearing out the notices at Wikipedia:Speedy_deletions#New_notices and saw that you listed a couple of images for speedy deletion because they were orphans of a VfD'd article. Your name is one I recognize and trust (you're very good about cleanup) but since I'm the one who has to push the delete button, it is my responsibility to be certain an image should be deleted. Could you provide a link to the appropriate VfD debate? Thank you. SWAdair | Talk 01:58, 13 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Just wandering by and I saw this. I try to clear the speedies once a day, as do others. It's not that quick though. Every one has to be checked; history, what links here, and is the content valid. Roughly one in ten I remove the tag from because the page is not really a speedy candidate. Usually these are pages that should be kept, sometimes they need to go to VfD. Just thought I'd fill you in from the janitor perspective. Best Filiocht | Blarneyman 15:19, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

Do you have an email or IM by which you could be easily contacted? Admin prep school

edit

Hello, again. I see that two messages up you said "Well, it's times like these I wish *I* had the power..." You certainly do enough cleanup around here that you could make good use of the extra buttons. I went checking. Kate's tools say you've made 2237 edits to the English Wikipedia, and that number is certain to be skewed on the low side because so many of your edits are tagging vandalism for deletion. Your interaction with others is always polite and level-headed, even after provocation. You're involved with cleanup all over the place. You've been here since April 11th. What?! April 11th? You've gotta be kidding. Remind me when July 11th rolls around and I'll be happy to nominate you. Many people use three months as a minimum to see if a person burns out after a brief rush of activity, to give time to gauge interaction skills, etc. One thing, though. You were using edit summaries consistently up until recently. Type an edit summary every single time. Every time. Everything we do here is available for scrutiny by anyone in the world, but edit summaries are an extra way of making our actions transparent. Many people weigh use of edit summaries heavily when considering an RfA. Otherwise, you're doing everything I would expect of an admin. It won't be long before your time for RfA rolls around. SWAdair | Talk 10:03, 19 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes, my edit count is so low because almost all of my edits these days are deletions. My online time comes in short bursts and I can get called away at any moment, so I try to handle things that can be quickly decided and acted upon. That means my main mission each time I log on is to clear Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. I wish there was an easy way to keep track of edits including deleted edits, but oh well... SWAdair | Talk 02:45, 20 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi! I've been eavesdropping on your discussion with SWAdair. You mentioned that non-admins can close VfDs. By all means, do any keep or merge and redirect discussions. Leave anything that requires deletion to admins, however--if you put the top and bottom closing templates on a discussion, they probably won't realize that the article hasn't actually been deleted. You probably knew that already, but there have been occasional problems in the past, and I want to save the inconvenience. Cheers, --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 03:58, 20 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Re:(moved this silly offtopic tract to Wikipedia talk:Votes for deletion/Christian Liberty Academy) Master Thief Garrett 03:55, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. You did us a service. I was hoping some completely uninvolved third party would do it, but your participation in the dispute was minor enough that it doesn't appear that you are taking sides. My opinion, in general, is that when things get a little overly rowdy in the open air, a completely uninvolved third party should move the discussion to neutral ground, that way it's not seen as a partisan move. --Unfocused 14:37, 19 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Indeed... I had to move it *somewhere*, and the red-link Discussion tab looked so lonely... heheheh... MY only side in the dispute is that of not wishing to see disputes about people's motives and schools' notabilities and whatnot crud up the Vfd. Hi, MTG, I've been keeping an eye on a VFD discussion of mine and it seems to have gone a bit wacky. Closing VfDs

edit

I appreciate your concerns, but I have been closing VfD debates for a long time and I don't feel that adding extra comments would be worth the effort. The debate pages are set to generate automatic edit summaries, which I feel are enough. At the same time the automatic summaries also make it much more time consuming to append my own comments. To me it is far more important to add a detailed comment to the deletion record or to the history of the article and its talk page if it is kept. I am proud to do more detailed annotations in these areas than almost any other closer. - SimonP 05:58, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

Ocarnia of Time: Fate of the Kokiri

edit

Hello. I was the author of that 1-liner that you reversed. I still maintain that they fled indoors, since they are actually indoors hiding from the Deku Babas and Scrubs when adult Link goes back to the village (save for Mido). My impression is, Ganondorf is too busy to personally send armies to hunt down the Kokiri (he would also have to physically find it), what with trying to find Zelda and all, as well as them staying hidden and not making much fuss (and therefore not as great a threat to Ganondorf's rule), so he just threw curses at them. With no Great Deku Tree, Giant Deku Babas would be enough to control the Kokiri. - 128.135.62.64 (hm, maybe I should get a name)

Yes it makes sense, but there is still a problem: accuracy. There is a big difference between canon (official ingame/manual info) and non-canon (fan-originated speculation and logical reasoning). Unfortunately, theories really cannot be presented alongside reliable and official facts without saying "many fans believe" or similar. It can get confusing.
Yes, by all means, you should get an account! I look forward to your new identity and contributions! Have a nice day! Master Thief GarrettTalk 01:57, 25 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
Got an account now. Question: where does it say that the Kokiri fled to the forest? In game? (Certainly not in the manual, I don't think Nintendo would make a foul-up like that). Megarockman 10:38 24 May 2005 (CDT)

Hi, you requested some translations, so here's my attempt:

テレビ = television
BSチューナー = BS tuner
BSアンテナ = BS antenna
AVセレクタ = AV selector
ACアダプタ = AC adaptor
本体背面 = rear of unit

電源 = electrical source
映像・音声 = image, voice

Hope that helps. Vircum 09:21, 26 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Oh, since most non-Japanese speakers probably wouldn't know this, "famicon" is actually derived from the English "family computer", but it means something more like "gaming console". You might want to translate this on the image. Sorry about that! Vircum 17:53, 26 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for attempting to fill in the missing information on the Image: pages for pictures in the Link article. Will you help me find suitable images from zelda.com so we can finally have Link featured on the main page and show the world WP gaming articles aren't all crap? I'd say we can ditch a few promo pictures, like that of Moosh (perhaps replace it with a low-res Wind Waker screenshot showing Medli or Makar) and reduce the amount of pictures to about four or five (which strengthens the case for fair use). We can perhaps replace the lead picture with a Twilight's Princess promo artwork piece, so we have a direct Nintendo source instead of some secondary archive. What do you think? Phils 21:25, 26 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've removed/replaced a few more unsourced pictures to mak sure all pics include direct nintendo sources. Feel free to finish the job or add sourced images. I have to go now. Phils 10:30, 27 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

After extensive discussion, there is a new effort to de-stub and expand all articles. However, a reasonable compromise seems to be to merge by evolution (see Horsea and Eevee for examples). Please give us your opinion at the 'prosal. Thanks! Radiant_* 10:09, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)
