6/2007 - 12/2007
- Hi Marylandstater!
- I'm sorry your Wiki-experience got off to a bad start. The information you're adding, if this is it, does not seem trivial to me (in fact, station history is important to these articles, and many Wikipedia TV station articles seem to skip from founding to, say, 2006 in one paragraph). Instead of reverting to your preferred version, I would suggest you seek a greater consensus on the article's talk page, or, conversely, on WikiProject TV Stations. Reverting back to your version does no good when the other user will simply revert back, see? If there's a consensus for inclusion of this material (which certainly seems possible, given the nature of the material, and the fact that you've provided references), then the material should be included. However, at this time, all I'm seeing is a revert war, which is bad for the article for many reasons. Best wishes and happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 00:31, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Mo. County Court House
I'll see what I can do about it.-- (Wikipedian1234 (talk) 18:24, 16 June 2008 (UTC))
Barack Obama Presidential Campaign
Hey Marylandstater, this is IP address 124.13.66.215 (haven't registered yet). I'm just wondering why you undid my Revision (Undid revision 207577722) to the article under "Pennsylvania" when I added information about how Obama's "bitter" comments had impacted the campaign, seeing as it's been the highlight of recent coverage and what I think is one of the larger controversies of the campaign. If you could rewrite my revision to somehow include this information I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, what "prior discussions" were you referring to when you removed it? Thanks. ~~Michael
Stonewood-Pentwood-Winston
According to the 2000 US Census, 850 people live in Stonewood-Pentwood-Winston with 95.3% African-American and 4.1% White. The median household income is $40,321 and 60% of the houses are occupied. [1]
Thanks. I'm trying to get it to the point where we can nominate it as a Featured List. And you don't have to be an administrator to give a barnstar - random acts of kindness and all. Like, for example, this... Geraldk 20:52, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
The Original Barnstar | ||
To Marylandstater, for all your hard work on Maryland-related articles. Keep up the good work. Geraldk 20:52, 8 July 2007 (UTC) |
- Sounds good. Geraldk 21:49, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Gender Integration
Thank you very much for adding the section on the admission of women to the Baltimore City College article. It is a section that has been need for sometime now and is an important contribution to the history of City. I also want the barnstar. Golem88991 19:04, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I had meant to say that I wanted to thank you for the barnstar. Sorry about the confusion. That would be a little arrogant of me to request a barnstar. Golem88991 01:47, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Baltimore City College
I would like to nominate this article for Good Article status in the near future. However, before that can happen a couple of key things need to be done to the article.
The academic section needs to be expanded.- Information about all sports at city college needs to be added.
- Gaps in the history of city college need to be filled in.
- Any major extracurricular activities not included need to be added.
- Any major topics not discussed need to be added
Citations need to conform to Wikipedia citation templates.- More and varying sources need to be added to the article.
If you could assist with any of these tasks it would be greatly appreciated. Golem88991 03:35, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would like to have the article ready for nomination by the end of next week. Golem88991 14:19, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I do not understand the grinch comment, could you clarify? Golem88991 16:08, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
FYI, I just nominated it for Featured List status, along with a re-nomination of List of Governors of Maryland. Geraldk 18:43, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- We're set. There's only 8 or so left, and I'm going to finish those up in the next few days, but I think it'll get Featured List. Geraldk 17:35, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
DYK:History of Baltimore City College
Wanted to let you know that the history of Baltimore City College was in the did you know section of the main page on 22 July 2007. Congratulations Baltimore City College WikiProject! Golem88991 02:05, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Alumni for women?
I did not change it from alumnae to alumni. I agree with you that alumnae is the right term for females. The edit I made to the page was making alumnae lower case instead of upper case as per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings), which states in part "Capitalize the first letter of the first word and any proper nouns in headings, but leave the rest lower case." Golem88991 14:37, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
A Call to Arms
The history of Baltimore City College has been nominated as a Good Article, however its nomination is currently on hold. Please contribute to the article so that it will pass the nomination. To view the reasons that it was put on hold go to the article's talk page. Golem88991 01:53, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject Assessments
The template is updated every three days by a bot. The last time the bot made its rounds was July 25, so the next time will be the 28th. At that time the template should change to reflect the new assessments. Golem88991 18:13, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- I am going to return the template to the project page. Although you are correct that it appears in the category of unassessed articles the bot knows not to include project in the count of unassessed articles. But I do understand your initial concern and thank you for going ahead and adding assessments to all the articles. Golem88991 00:30, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Possible improvements to Alumni page
I am working on creating a table-type-list for the alumni page. The advantage is that it would be sortable. A researcher could take a look with all entries sort it alphabetically, or by Category or by year of graduation. I have done about a fifth of the names, but before I continued i wanted to get your input on whether you like it, what headings you might change etc. anyway here it is:
Each emtry can be shaded but so far I have only shaded the two polticians using a political-shading-template of blue for democrats and pink for republicans. Also, when you click on the knobs you can see how the table sorts it self. Of course, I will have to get the years of graduation for most of the folks, I already knew of schmoke and anderson cause they were in my class. Also it gives more flexibility when entering a new find because you dont have to stick to the rigid categories like putting a record label owner in the television section; and it isnt hard to edit, just copy the last name once you have gone to the edit page and replace the appropriate information from the newly found notable. Hit me on my talk page with comments. 67knight 12:13, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Editing Alumni Page
I have finished the sortable table and placed it on the alumni page. When you edit you can use the following (click edit page first to view): I think it looks good and editing should be a snap. I will continue to get years of graduation to fill in those blanks. If you know any of them already just fill them in. 67knight 22:51, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
The names should be in alphabetical order; and should be the first item/category on the list. I have no problem doing it just want to know what you folks think. The current table is a bit confusing especially to those with no connection to school, and therefore no idea what catagory the notables are in b/c they have no idea who graduated from the school. So my suggestion is:
Alumnae(us)[in alphabetical order], Category, Notability, Year of Graduation.
Also I think the color scheme is a bit confusing, as it is designated for republicans and democrats but to rehash Golem88991's point the page is by nature "not political". Perhaps we could designate colors for the categories (i.e. red for the arts, blue for politics and so on.) Or we could go with no colors at all but the fact that some are with and others without colors makes it confusing. But overall I am impressed with the efforts to improve this page we should be a featured list in no time. Please let me know what you think and whether you approve the suggestions--Bcc07 19:10, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Mayoral election!
Hi Marylandstater! I definitely think it's great that you're adding the list of endorsements to the page on the mayoral election. The bit I objected to was added by an anonymous IP address (which I'd be willing to bet was someone at the Dixon campaign); it noted that the Fraternal Order of Police (Mitchell's highest-profile endorser to date) also endorsed Ehrlich last year. This struck me as a pretty transparent attempt to link Mitchell to a Republican candidate who was extremely unpopular in Baltimore, so I erased it, but I left all the material you added up.
By the way, just wanted to say thanks for all your work on the Baltimore mayor's race articles and the pages on the candidates. Sometimes it seems like we're the only ones updating them! --Jfruh (talk) 05:46, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey, I've just finished some work on this list and, as soon as the Hogan replacement is made in 39, am going to nominate it for featured list. I'd love it if you could take a look and spot any errors or potential improvements. Good work on the delegates list, by the way, and on the delegation articles. Geraldk 17:17, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
HoD District Articles
Hey, Marylandstater, I'm going to begin making pages about each district in the House of Delegates as well complete with electoral results and whatever else. Maybe I'll get around to creating an InfoBox. I understand you have done a lot for the House of Delegates articles and members articles, so I guess I'm trying to enlist your aide in this. I'm starting with the district I live in, 33A.
Assessment updates
I didn't set up the assessments for the project, another member did (User:Warlordjohncarter), so I honestly don't know. I went ahead and asked him, so hopefully we should have the answer soon.-Jeff (talk) 19:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Here's his response. So it's supposed to be every couple of days. I can understand it taking three days, but five days seems like a bit much. Per John Carter's suggestion, I'll try and contact the 1.0 team either tonight or tomorrow and see what's going on. Hopefully the delay can be taken care of.-Jeff (talk) 20:29, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
BCC Wikiproject Inactivity
I am working to reinvigorate the project. Any suggestions you may have would be helpful. Let's get some momentum going again. Golem88991 05:51, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Can I ask why you removed your name from the participants list? Golem88991 02:39, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Bot and participants
A whole week? Sounds like we need to bug the 1.0 team again. As for the participants question, I really don't know who's been active, perhaps an activity check should be done.-Jeff (talk) 02:32, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- It's not just us. Hopefully they'll get that fixed soon.-Jeff (talk) 14:15, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Albelwolman.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Albelwolman.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:52, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Notice to all members of WikiProject Maryland
There are a few things going on right now in WikiProject Maryland that I thought all members should know about, especially the first one.
- Not too long ago, Marylandstater raised the question of exactly how many members of the project are still active. For this reason, I'm asking everyone who is still active, and wants to remain in the project, to put an asterisk (*) after their username on the project's participants list. You have until the end of November 17, 2007 to do so, sometime after that, all the names that do not have an asterisk will be removed. This is just to clean up the ever expanding list. If you've been gone and come back to find that you've been removed from the list, don't take it personally, just re-add yourself! I won't feel bad at all if no one gets removed, in fact, it would be nice if all 30 members still consider themselves active. Also, this won't affect the two subprojects, but speaking of the subprojects...
- As of sometime next week WikiProject Baltimore City College will be no more. Myself, Golem88991, and John Carter have decided to make it into a task force of WikiProject Maryland. If you have any objections, concerns, or comments, please post them in the talk page topic concerning this.
Now for the exiting news:
- I'm pleased to announce the creation of the Baltimore Task Force! Those interested in contributing to Wikipedia's numerous articles related to Maryland's largest city, now have a place to collaborate.
- I'd also like to take this time to propose a project newsletter. Any comments should be directed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maryland#Newsletter.
A couple last things:
- The portal is in desperate need of maintenance, anyone who's interested, go check it out.
- It's probably a good idea to add the project page (and thus the project talk page) to your watchlist. That way, you can easily see when new comments are posted.
I hope you read through all that ;). Thanks to all members for your contributions to the project's articles so far, let's keep up the good work!
Sincerely, -Jeff (talk) 05:55, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Hey Hotrod, are you sure your results are correct for the last two elections on the Campbell page? Marylandstater 12:50, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Found my mistake. Thanks for pointing it out to me! I also forgot to include 1994's results. And you can call me Gerard. :-) Wallstreethotrod 18:08, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Maryland images
I want to thank you for all the images of Maryland politicians you have added to articles. However, since you are freely-licensing the images, please consider uploading them to the Wikimedia Commons instead of here. Uploading images there automatically makes them available to every Wikimedia Foundation project, including the English Wikipedia. You can read more about this at Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Thanks again. --Tom (talk - email) 22:26, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Mary Pat Clarke
I have nominated Mary Pat Clarke, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mary Pat Clarke. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
