I appreciate your boldness on the Unfulfilled prophecy by Christians article and changing the name. However, you might want to participate in some discussions before making such a drastic decision by yourself. You would find that many others would disagree with your reasons and logic. Please rejoin the page discussion as we discuss an accurate title. Storm Rider 17:51, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, the reference desk is meant to be a welcoming place for people new to Wikipedia. It's really not very helpful to insist that people sign their comments there. While I'm here, the use of images in signatures is discouraged (see WP:SIG#Images_and_Appearance), so it would be generally appreciated if you could change your signature to something more modest. login from blocked IP

edit

Currently if an IP is blocked you cannot log in from it. There are discussions to introduce a new form of a block that would not prevent registered users to login from it, but it is not implemented.

Now, may I ask, why you are interested in it? Is there any specific problem I could help you with? abakharev 23:16, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you get around to other people's user pages, you'll find mine isn't the easiest to navigate. I just can't think of any of them right now. :) As for the scripture verse in my user page, I think I knew about being able to change it to The Message version of the Bible...however, my personal favorite is the KJV, at least as of right now. Thanks for the thought, anyway. Have a nice day!--ViolinGirl 00:39, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Firstly, thanks for commenting on my user page - your suggestion was very helpful, and I used it straight away, so thank you very much. As a token of my appreciation, would you like me to design you (currently-blank) user page? Quick Access to Dvoark Assistant

edit

As the link says, it is "QUICK ACCESS to Dvorak Assistant". The program is the same as the one linked above, but the link below simply provides faster access than the link above. Please click on the link and read the page that appears. Thank you. EDIT: Sorry forgot to add signature. The page is DSK. Signature: --ADTC 00:06, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

"It just could have been quicker access to changing keyboards, rather than to the actual file."
Dvorak Assistant is a software that allows you to quickly change the keyboard to Dvorak. It does not come with Windows, and has to be downloaded from the Internet. The "Quick Access to Dvorak Assistant" provides links that can come handy when you are travelling. For example, if you use a computer in an Internet cafe, you can download and run (no install required) DVAssist in much shorter time that you would take for downloading it through the primary link ("Dvorak Assistant"). The links are easy to remember, and short. That's the whole point about it.
"United States-Dvorak with Qwerty-based Modifier Key support ... is it another keyboard that can be accessed from the XP control panel"
This keyboard layout is accessed through XP control panel, but it does not come pre-installed with Windows. (In fact, Microsoft doesn't even know such a layout exists. It was created by me, using Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator.) With Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, you can create your own custom keyboard layouts and install them along with other standard keyboard layouts that come pre-installed with Windows. You can also create installation files to share the keyboard layout with others. This is what I did. I'm sharing the custom keyboard layout that I have created. The installation file is safe, as it is created by Keyboard Layout Creator, a software provided by Microsoft. It has no function except to install the custom layout in your system. Once installed, you'll be able to access and enable the layout through XP control panel, using the procedure you'd use for any standard layout. To remove, disable the layout first, then run the installation file again. You'll be provided with option to uninstall it.
Hope it is clear.

"is it not policy that bots and humans do not share accounts?"
The Bot must be manually activated. It used my account name because I activated it. It's a form of accountability. It means that you can query things with me if you think that there has been a mistake or a problem. It also means that a user can have the final say in what is and isn't vandalism. Unfortunately there are just too many vandalised pages for every person who activates the bot to scrutinize every page in detail.
Your comment included the following code
<span id="haha!!!"></span>
which added nothing to the page and filled the criteria for vandalism, the rest of what you wrote was reverted because everything in that edit sesion was reverted (the bot simply roles back to a point before the vandalism, rather than simply removing the offending line/s. It's nothing personal.
perfectblue 08:12, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

A pure Bot is a nice idea, but is impractical. For example. How would a bot differentiate between an edit to Boy George's biography saying that he was gay, and an edit to Bill Clinton's biography saying that he was gay? To a bot, they would both look almost identical and would both be flagged up as potential vandalism.

Equally, if somebody wrote "Boy George is English, and is a child abuser" the bot can't distinguish between the first part of the edit which accurate, and the second part which is not. It would flag the entire edit up and all of it would be rolled back unless an individual editor had the time to go into the page and edit it by hand.

I hope that this puts your mind at rest.

edit

Your userpage implies that you're a person and not a robot, but to be honest, I'm beginning to wonder, after your revert to these: [4] edits. Tell me what's wrong with them, please, them being no-where near vandalism and simply cutting the waffle out of things - when it's either blatantly obvious context, or it simply makes the code shorter. I haven't got a clue why anyone would thing there was anything wrong with them. If that is the case, maybe the article on WP should be up for deletion.martianlostinspace 18:00, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Between your Revision as of 17:29, 17 January 2007 and my Revision as of 18:27, 18 January 2007, I removed the following:
bgfggdsgdgsydsfjdfsj
&
hello worl i wanna play a game this information is false and un reliable please i beg you if u use this run adn hide or hell get u
I also replaced the following, which had been deleted:
The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behavior, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services a Compensation which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office.
You made some changes of your own between your Revision as of 17:22, 17 January 2007 and my edits. I did not change them. In fact, I reverted back to your last edit. Thus, I'm not sure you have the right guy.
However, it appears the paragraph that replaced the above paragraph (which I removed with the foregoing nonsense) may have been a legit add, and I may have not noticed it. It's been a while. Is that where your concern lies? --Evb-wiki 18:48, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

re: Requested articles

edit

That redirect was deleted via a successful nomination at WP:RFD. Recreation of deleted content is speedable as {{db-repost}}. If a page continues to be recreated, it will be protected to prevent its recreation. This is what happened in this case. If you disagree with the deletion, you are welcome to take it to deletion review. However, you are not allowed to trump community consenus on your own by recreating. The reasons for deleting and protecting are shown in the log and the log is linked from the protected page template. Anyone curious to "why" should have read the template and followed the instructions for viewing the log. As deletion pages shouldn't have talk pages, I have deleted it. The proper shortcut to Wikipedia:Requested articles is WP:RA. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 16:01, 17 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

You have changed the topic from Requested articles to Requested Articles. The first is the one with the protected page (as it keeps being recreated) and the second does not (it hasn't been continually recreated so there's no need). If you click on any redlink, it will take you to a page that includes a link to the deletion log. Once again, the deletion log will tell you who deleted it and why it was deleted (in this case, not me & per RFD again). The deletion log exists for every page that has been deleted. If you want to know why a page was deleted, check the log which can be accessed directly or from the deleted page (either the protected template or the edit page). As for Requested Article, no one has nominated it for deletion. If someone does, it probably would end up being deleted per past precedent, but that won't happen unless someone chooses to nominate it. -- JLaTondre 14:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Transrapid

edit

Hi. I apologize if I made a mistake in redirecting the Transrapid translation page to the transrapid main page but I have no idea why you would think that I did it with the sole purpose of being disruptive. It appeared to me that the page had not been used for some time and in any case it should not be in mainspace and should be moved to a subpage of the Transrapid talk page. Please remember to assume good faith. The page was part of the backlog of uncategorized pages which routinely contains such pages which are mistakenly created and left to rot there so redirecting is a common thing and no harm was done so there's no need to make a big fuss about it. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 19:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, martianlostinspace. Your last edit at the Humanities desk has raised some concerns. (See the next comment in that thread, as well as this edit on the talk page). Was there any rationale for selectively deleting commets on the ref desk talk page? David D. (Talk) 16:56, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Everything is back in the right place, including your own comment. David D. (Talk) 17:03, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am beginning to think that I cannot read. Were you claiming on the Humanities' page today that you believed that the matters of phrenology and race type were linked? That isn't what I read. I thought you said that this is what the Nazis claimed, which, even if false (and I don't know enough about the details to comment), is quite a different stance. The reaction from other readers was as if you were advocating for the Nazi position, and I fail to see where you did that. What did I miss? Bielle 00:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Racism

edit

Thank you for the clarification. You may also be bumping into the debate about Jewishness as a religion versus Jewishness as an ethnicity, which is different again from being Israeli. While Jews don't proseletize, looking for converts, there are, nonetheless, converts. There is also more than one set of ethnic traits even among those who have inherited being Jewish, especially if that inheritance is restricted to the mother's side. I doubt then very much, political correctness aside, that you would be able to develop a thesis to prove any physical trait to cover all or even most Jews, any more than you could do so about most Catholics, or most Protestants. And, yes, like it or not, because Wikipedia is not a debating society and "free speech" is, by its definition, essentially reduced to verifiability, there are some approaches to answering questions that should not even be started. :-) Bielle 15:06, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia devotes a whole article to Who is a Jew and comes to no specific conclusion, except by religious practice. There are some ethnic groups that are largely Jewish; the Ashkenazis are one such, I believe. However, I don't think it is safe to assume that, because Hitler put Jews on his list of "inferior races" that he had an intellectual grasp of the concept of "race" or even of Judaism. He identified Jews by their practices, by their allegiances to and memberships in a synagogue, by their friends and by their neighbourhoods. In general though, unless I had facts and deep knowledge, -and I, personally, do not- not conjecture, supposition or even, "I think I read somewhere", I would stay away from all racial and religious questions. They are understandably hot buttons, and the Ref. Desk is not a place for personal or academic explorations of ideas, but rather a place for verifiable facts in response to specific questions. I do appreciate that you have taken the time to explain your position. Bielle 22:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
