Recreating a page
editSorry to bother you, sir. I am attempting to recreate a page for my company, InfoCepts, that you deleted more than a decade ago. I would like to assure you that over the last decade, InfoCepts has grown well as a BA-IM company, and now has the capability to become a well-sourced, regularly searched page. Kindly allow us to create a page that will assuredly be mutually valuable to both parties. Sincerely, AshVaidya (talk) 07:38, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
Hello. Thank you for responding. I understand how it may seem difficult to envision an unbiased company page from one of its associates. However, I implore you to consider the page I create. Having referred to Wikipedia for over a decade and a half, I do realize what the free encyclopedia considers admissible. About what you said regarding page creation by someone else, I trust you realize the pitfalls of being present in a tier-two Indian city. It is for this reason that creating a Wiki page becomes all the more vital. Most of the people seeking information about InfoCepts only know enough to search for it on Wikipedia and Google. I also speak from personal experience. People do want information about our company from a trusted source. Hoping for a positive response. Sincerely, AshVaidya (talk)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
editArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

editDisputed non-free use rationale for File:Ogrefencers.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Ogrefencers.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
Want Your Advice
editHey, Mara, it's been awhile! I don't know how active you are here, but I was wondering if I could pick your brain, since you've been here a lot longer than I have!
So I've disputed some claims on the Final Fantasy article made in the Legacy section. You can read my complaints in full here, but the gist is this:
I think if a statement is made like "Final Fantasy introduced multi-classing" in the Legacy section, that the implication is Final Fantasy introduced multi-classing to the C/RPG genre and that future games to use the future copied it from Final Fantasy. Obviously, tabletop and computer RPGs before Final Fantasy had this feature, so it cannot be assumed that FF popularized it, as later games may have had other inspirations. The sources provided do not support this implicit claim; they only prove that the game had the feature itself.
I'm not asking you to chime in on my defense. You could if you wanted to, but my question is, am I misinterpreting the Legacy section? I think it's pretty obvious that writing "Final Fantasy introduced X" or "Final Fantasy introduced X, which was used in later games like Y" is implicitly claiming that Final Fantasy influenced other games and/or is responsible for popularizing X mechanic, even though the sources don't even remotely suggest this.
Please tell if you think I'm wrong in this, so I can drop it 'fore I annoy anyone further.--GamerAim (talk) 02:42, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

editAdministrators will no longer be autopatrolled
editA recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
How we will see unregistered users
editHi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Rejuvenate WikiProject Skepticism
editHello - my name is Susan Gerbic (Sgerbic) and I'm writing to you because at some point you joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism. This might have been months ago - or even years ago. With the best of intentions the project was created years ago, and sadly like many WikiProjects has started to go dormant. A group of us are attempting to revitalize the Skepticism project, already we have begun to clean up the main page and I've just redone the participant page. No one is in charge of this project, it is member directed, which might have been the reason it almost went dormant. We are attempting to bring back conversations on the talk page and have two subprojects as well, in the hopes that it might spark involvement and a way of getting to know each other better. One was created several years ago but is very well organized and a lot of progress was made, Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skeptical organisations in Europe. The other I created a couple weeks ago, it is very simple and has a silly name Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skepticism Stub Sub-Project Project (SSSPP). This sub-project runs from March 1 to June 1, 2022. We are attempting to rewrite skepticism stubs and add them to this list. As you can see we have already made progress.
The reason I'm writing to you now is because we would love to have you come back to the project and become involved, either by working on one of the sub-projects, proposing your own (and managing it), or just hanging out on the talk page getting to know the other editors and maybe donate some of your wisdom to some of the conversations. As I said, no one is in charge, so if you have something in mind you would like to see done, please suggest it on the talk page and hopefully others will agree. Please add the project to your watchlist, update your personal user page showing you are a proud member of WikiProject Skepticism. And DIVE in, this is what the work list looks like [1] frightening at first glance, but we have already started chipping away at it.
The Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Participants page has gone though a giant change - you may want to update your information. And of course if this project no longer interests you, please remove your name from the participant list, we would hate to see you go, but completely understand.
Thank you for your time, I hope to edit with you in the future.Sgerbic (talk) 07:14, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update, I will try to make time to contribute. Marasmusine (talk) 12:21, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
New administrator activity requirement
editThe administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
editEstablished policy provides for the removal of the administrative permissions of users who have made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period. Your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to the required activity level before the beginning of January 2023.
Inactive administrators are encouraged to engage with the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for re-engaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to re-engage with the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Transylvanian Tower moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, Transylvanian Tower, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 11:36, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
