edit{{adminhelpme}} Saratov corrupted by 15 January edits. How do we roll back to 9 January version? - Maliepa (talk) 18:11, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Done. JohnCD (talk) 18:14, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- For future reference, you could have done it yourself.
- In the editing history of the article click on the time stamp of the version you want to go back to (on this occasion 21:04, 9 January 2011), which will open that version.
- Click on the "Edit" tab to edit the page.
- Provide a suitable edit summary to explain what you are doing.
- Save the page. JamesBWatson (talk) 18:21, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I was coming back to explain the same, but JBW has explained it more clearly. Only thing to add: it's good practice in your edit summary to reference the version you are going back to, e.g. "RV vandalism to version by EmausBot at 21:04, 9 January." Thank you
editHi, thank you for your contribution to it:Diocesi di Modone. Could you provide references for the information you wrote? Have a nice day. --Avemundi (talk) 03:32, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- You're quite welcome. I have several sources for the bishops where I updated names and added dates.
- For Bonaventura Madaliński from Hierarchia Catholica Medii Aevi, v. 5, p. 266, see pl:Bonawentura Madaliński.
- For Hieronim Władysław Sanguszko from Hierarchia Catholica Medii Aevi, v. 4, p. 240, see v. 4, p. 318 and it:Diocesi di Smolensk and pl:Hieronim Władysław Sanguszko.
- For Marianus (Cyprianus) from Hierarchia Catholica Medii Aevi, v. 3, p. 251, see Jan Kurczewski, Kościół zamkowy czyli katedra wileńska w jej dziejowym, liturgicznym, architektonicznym i ekonomicznym rozwoju, Nakład i Druk Józefa Zawadzkiego, Vilnius (1908), p. 322 (available from Google books) and pl:Biskupi sufragani wileńscy. Both give his year of death as 1594, though Kurczewski misprints the last period of his life as 1592-1584.
- For Georgius Albinus from Hierarchia Catholica Medii Aevi, v. 3, p. 251, see Kurczewski and pl:Biskupi sufragani wileńscy. Again both agree that his year of death was 1570.
- I didn't change Feliks, but both Kurczewski and pl:Biskupi sufragani wileńscy say that he preceded rather than followed Jerzy Albinus. Kurczewski cites him as titular bishop of Caffenus instead of Methonensis. See Hierarchia Catholica Medii Aevi, v. 3, p. 145.
- – Maliepa (talk) 03:03, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- Kurczewski also lists Jerzy Chwalczewski. I have found two Polish sources that imply that he was named titular bishop of Methonensis in 1525, but neither states this explicitly. Still searching. See also Hierarchia Catholica Medii Aevi, v. 3, p. 229.

Hi Mark, first of all thank you for your precious contributions. At it.wiki we try to match high quality criteria, both to offer readers reliable information and to keep the same format on all the articles about dioceses. To do so, we have a project to coordinate our work. I'd really like you to join the project and to follow the project talk, so our common efforts will be even more efficient. Have a nice day. --Avemundi (talk) 22:58, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Eubel, vol 8
editHi, I have noticed you quoted Eubel vol. 8. Have you found it on-line or could you read the book on paper? It would be so important to find an on-line version (the same applies for vol. 9). Please reply on it.wiki. Have a good day! --Avemundi (talk) 19:58, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- I recently purchased paper copies of Eubel vols. 7 and 8. Catholic-hierarchy.org has most of the information from these volumes, but is weak on identifying Apostolic Vicars and Apostolic Visitors. In addition, all of the Apostolic Visitors to Moldavia in vol. 7 have not been posted there yet. – Maliepa (talk) 01:17, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
See of Tolemaide
editCiao. Ti chiedo se puoi controllare in Eubel 7 e 8 le sedi di it:Diocesi di Tolemaide di Fenicia, it:Diocesi di Tolemaide di Libia and it:Arcidiocesi di Tolemaide di Tebaide. The cronotassi is not clear (!?). Croberto68 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.81.68.157 (talk) 10:03, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
– Maliepa (talk) 23:41, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
- OK. Grazie! Croberto68 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.81.68.157 (talk) 06:48, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Sulz vs. Selz Ukraine
editThanks for fixing my mistake, I've always thought they were different spellings of the same place. My grandfather is from one of those places, I need to check my sources. I think I've seen it spelled both ways in people's genealogy work, but amateur genealogy is notoriously inaccurate, of course. I take it both places are Black Sea German settlements? Valfontis (talk) 01:31, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, both the Kutschurgan Valley and the Beresaner Valley were fertile farmlands that drain to the Black Sea. While making the correction, I discovered that Lawrence Welk's parents came to North Dakota from Selz. – Maliepa (talk) 01:51, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. And yes, Dad always said we were related to Lawrence Welk, so we must be from Selz also. Valfontis (talk) 03:52, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Arcidiocesi di Maronea
editCiao. Please check again Eubel: Jean-Baptiste-François Pompallier ends in 1869; but Karl Pooten started in 1844 and Athanase Khouzan in 1855 (!). By Google translation (I hope to have translated well !) Croberto68 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.81.68.157 (talk) 14:10, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- Eubel elenca tutti questi vescovi sotto "Maronea (de) seu Maronien(sis) (Maronea) in Rhodope, tit." (non metrop.). Ferrarelli e Pompallier sono "eccl. ep.lem de Maronea". Senza questi due la sequenza non si sovrappone. Tutti gli altri sono "Maronien.". – Maliepa (talk) 14:55, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
Ciao. Mi hai preceduto nella stesura della voce. Sarebbe però utile sapere in base a quale fonte identifichi Targa con Tagarata. Croberto68 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.81.68.157 (talk) 06:54, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Eubel vol. 5 e vol. 6 indicano che Targa è in "Africa Proconsulari sub metrop. Carthiginen."
Croberto68 --91.81.68.157 (talk) 13:14, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Diocesi di Arca
editCiao. Ti chiedo un aiuto! Se puoi controllare in Eubel VII e VIII le sedi di it:Sede titolare di Archis, it:Diocesi di Arca di Armenia e it:Diocesi di Arca di Fenicia. Grazie! --91.81.68.157 (talk) 11:59, 23 July 2012 (UTC) (Croberto68)
- Ho eliminato i duplicati, ma non riuscì a risolvere completamente la confusione. C'è davvero una sola sede latina prima del 1954. Eubel riporta Crespo y Bautista Arcen. in Phoenicia e Le Nordez Arcen. in Armenia.
Template
editI've been thinking about template Template:Castles in Latvia, which should be filled in, and a better way to distinguish those places which are in ruins from those preserved. I saw this in one of the lists (castles or manors, I don't remember). Let's discuss this with another User so we become three editing. Any suggestion of your preference ? Krenakarore TK 14:09, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know about ruins vs. preserved, but I like the division into regions in the Latvian template. There are too many manors to lump them all together. We could divide by region, then subdivide by castle, palace, manor, ruins, etc. – Maliepa (talk) 14:34, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Do we really need a collective template for all these objects? If we look at the website of the Association of the Castles, Palaces and Manors of Latvia, we can see that the former Daugavpils District alone has 39 entries in total. Are you sure, when new articles appear, it won't be too bulky? I guess for that reason the Latvian wiki has a separate template for medieval castles. --glossologist (talk) 18:05, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- I think you're both correct. To have it separate by 5 cultural regions seems logic. As we're talking about history here, a "timeline" idea could also be added to the template. So let's leave the "ruins vs. preserved" to a better List of Castles and List of Palaces and Manors. Subdivide them how ?
- You're right, we can't make it bulky. The Castles in Latvia template also lists palaces and manors. You're suggesting another template right ? Krenakarore TK 11:55, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Maybe we could first of all divide it into 5 templates, each containing all castles, palaces and manors of one of the culture-historical regions? Another option could be not having any template at all, because we already have the objects listed on separate pages (List of castles in Latvia & List of palaces and manor houses in Latvia) and a link to one of these lists in the See also section would suffice. --glossologist (talk) 13:06, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- I see your point, but the list(s) could be improved to distinguish those which are in ruins from those which are not, or under reconstruction, and even relate those which belonged to the Livonian Order from those that didn't, and that's something which could never be alocated in a template. Those lists should be bettered anyway. I beliwve 5 templates would be too much, once we have only castles, palaces and manors (this will be discussed in more detail on the template talk page. Others have the right to speak up their minds too). You see, Maliepa and I are playing a game... that is, I do something, he does something better, I then better what he did until he comes up with a better idea. You see, it's not only placing info on the articles, but making them more presentable. It has nothing to do with knowing more. It feels good to me when I learn from you. Show me more...:) ! Hi. I see you are listed as a member of a WikiProject of a Baltic state. I was wondering if anybody who actively works on Estonian, Lithuanian or Latvian articles, would be interested in launching your own Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Baltic), based on the Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic) and Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea would be to try to bring about 1000 article improvements and creations on this region as an enjoyable challenge and potentially things like National Contests with prizes. If you'd be interested and think it's something you might regularly contribute to, comment and sign up at Talk:Baltic states. If there is interest we can move this to a project somewhere and set something up, thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:26, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 10:02, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Ambassador to Fiji
editHi Maliepa, I reverted your addition of the Fiji ambassador due to it being a Career FSO. There is a consensus from this RFC in October 2017 that said remove/don't add Career FSO members/positions to the page. Just wanted to let you know in case you weren't aware. Thanks, Corky 15:58, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. Though, personally, I think that replacing senior foreign service officers with non-career appointees is a very political thing to do. – Maliepa (talk) 16:31, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks
editHey, Maliepa! Thank you for correcting my mistakes at Political appointments by Donald Trump! Apparently I didn't check to see if it was correct when I change the date format with the tool (not sure why it didn't just change the format)... do you think it's best to go back to the MM/DD/YYYY instead of Month Day, Year format? Corky 19:54, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
- No, the current format is better. MM/DD/YYYY and DD/MM/YYYY are too easily confused. – Maliepa (talk) 20:03, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
Mark Menezes
editHey Maliepa, are you able to find a larger version of this image. I was able to find his official image for DOE, but can't find a larger image... Corky 21:03, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- No, I can't find any useful versions larger than 300×300 pixels. I found one instance of 200×200 pixels and one heavily edited larger version in this image. – Maliepa (talk) 21:54, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Alrighty, thanks! I may send an email to the Department and see if they are willing to provide the image... or maybe update their website! Corky 04:42, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- Found one [1] finally! I've uploaded it. Corky 02:52, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
White House photos
editHere is a website for you... I don't believe all are PD-USGov images, but there are some that are definitely White House photos... none have been uploaded. Corky 02:38, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks! I was running out of conference presentations and speaking engagements.
- I have also been trying to find a picture of the correct Daniel P. Walsh, who is a retired Coast Guard officer that also worked as a military aide in the George W. Bush and Obama White Houses. The image available on Commons is a Ph.D. chemist who works on preventing chemical attacks against the Pentagon. – Maliepa (talk) 12:15, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- For reference, there are copyrighted images of Capt. Dan Walsh at a November 2016 press event here and here. Dr. Ronny Jackson is partially obscured in the back row of the second photo. – Maliepa (talk) 13:34, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Also, I think that Michael Berry (Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs) may in fact be Michael Barry (U.S. official). It wouldn't be the first misspelling in a White House press release. – Maliepa (talk) 12:55, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry, Maliepa, I forgot about this section (may want to ping me in the future or do a talkback on my talk page ). I certainly didn't ignore you on purpose! Good to know on Walsh, I couldn't find a (correct) picture of him anywhere... but I'll keep looking! And I think you may be right on Barry... [2]. If you haven't yet, I would go ahead and make the change on the page to correct the spelling error... Corky 02:59, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
Lt Gen Maryanne Miller fourth star nomination
editThat is very interesting. Miller is a career reserve officer, and for a reserve officer be nominated for a fourth star extremely rare. There is only one known four-star position that follows a reserve officer pipeline and that's the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and currently General Lengyel still has two more years remaining and I haven't heard of him requesting for early retirement. U.S. Northern Command's deputy commander has been a reserve officer three-star since 2008 (also particularly from the National Guard), and there was once talk about making the commander of USNORTHCOM a four-star officer from the National Guard, but that never came to fruition. Even now, General O'Shaughnessy only assumed command of USNORTHCOM this past May, so that rules out that job going to Miller. Her career, staff positions and commands held, are pretty broad throughout her career, so I can't make heads or tails on what current-known four-star position she may be inheriting. My hunch is that they are opening up a new four-star position for her. I hope they announce something soon. It's killing my curiosity. Neovu79 (talk) 09:35, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- After doing a thorough review of the remaining four-star positions, so far I see one likely and two outside possibilities. Generals Ellen M. Pawlikowski and Carlton D. Everhart II and Admiral Kurt W. Tidd are all scheduled to retire. That makes U.S. Southern Command, Air Force Materiel Command and Air Mobility Command available. Out of the three, Air Mobility Command is the most likely destination for Miller, in my opinion. Miller has a lot of experience as a commander of reserve air forces, particularly in air mobility and airlift, which AMC encompasses. In the earlier part of her career, she's flown in a hand full of the aircraft AMC uses. But most importantly, a good portion of AMC is comprised of reserve airmen and Air National Guardsmen. Neovu79 (talk) 14:03, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- To add to the mystery, the Maryanne Miller and John Murray nominations were sent on to the full Senate by the Committee on Armed Services on July 31 without having held any hearings. – Maliepa (talk) 12:32, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- Miller's replacement at Air Force Reserve Command will be her current deputy Richard W. Scobee, the son of Space Shuttle Challenger Astronaut Dick Scobee. Maybe the press will finally pick up their coverage on these appointments. – Maliepa (talk) 21:51, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
Just thought you would want to know, that on August 13, 2018, President Trump signed into law, the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019. It includes the re-establishment of the U.S. Space Command by the end of 2018. It will temporarily be a sub-unified combatant command under U.S. Strategic Command, who's commander will be a four-star general or flag officer, , until it can be separated as a full unified combatant command. Neovu79 (talk) 08:02, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
DYK for Kelvin Droegemeier
editOn 22 August 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kelvin Droegemeier, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that US President Donald Trump's nomination of meteorologist Kelvin Droegemeier to direct the Office of Science and Technology Policy has been received positively by scientists? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kelvin Droegemeier. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Kelvin Droegemeier), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. National Guard (United States)???
editI've recently submitted a request to move National Guard of the United States to National Guard (United States), and I want to get your honest feedback on the subject. Neovu79 (talk) 16:26, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
- I think that your proposed name is better. United States National Guard is also better than the current article name, which seems somehow awkward to me. – Maliepa (talk) 16:42, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

pictures
editHi Maliepa some times you get some of us headacks I am not trying to be mean to you. But sometimes you put the picture on one page and don't put the pictures on the others. So Corkythehornetfan and I have to add it for you. For exampale on John H. Gibson you forgot to add Succeeded by Lisa Hershman Acting. And I had to add that and just today I added the date for you becuse I looked at the Ambassader website and I put the date for you. and you added the picture to United States Ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump and you forgot to add the picture to List of ambassadors of the United States to Kosovo and Philip S. Kosnett so I added it. For you becuse you did not. I hope you Understand. Thank you and look forward for your responce.96.36.68.29 (talk) 02:39, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
- I only found a cropped headshot of Ambassador Kosnett on Twitter. I was waiting for the embassy or the State Department to post the full official Ambassador image before updating the other two pages. I thought that the previous Deputy Chief of Mission image would be more than adequate in the meantime. As for the Gibson infobox, I am not an expert on these and always appreciate any improvements others make. – Maliepa (talk) 03:09, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

- I don't see anything new in this latest list. Many of them are already on Commons. I have chosen not to deal with judges, attorneys or marshals, so you'll have to find someone else for those. The images not already on Commons have ambiguous copyright status or, in one or two cases, are very low resolution. At least one image is no longer available.
- Some images on Commons, though "official", are poor quality compared to those already posted on English Wikipedia. This is especially true for members of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. – Maliepa (talk) 23:56, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Admiral Robert Burke to Director, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program???
editAre you sure about this assignment? Because the Director, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program has it's own statutory nomination designation. Usually their nomination would state The following named officer for appointment to the grade of admiral in the United States Navy while assigned to a position of importance and responsibility under title 10, U.S.C., section 601, title 42, title 50, U.S.C., section 2511 and U.S.C., section 7158 and not just 10, U.S.C., section 601. Also, the term for the director is eight years (albeit, at the pleasure of the President) and the current director is not even half way through his term. That's not to say that Burke isn't qualified to be the next director given his career in electrical engineering and nuclear propulsion, but it would still be highly unorthodox to remove the current director in the middle of his term. Only Admiral Richardson has ever had his term shortened as director, and this was due to being promoted to CNO. Since this is kind of more along the lines of a lateral move, I cannot see, why the Navy or the DoD would do this again, unless Caldwell is requesting for retirement. If Caldwell wanted to stay in the Navy, his term as director would far out-last many other four-star admirals who terms are usually 2 to 4 years. Neovu79 (talk) 16:41, 3 March 2020 (UTC) (Correction, Caldwell is a little over half way into his term)
- No, I am not sure. I was looking for a possible lateral move and was not aware that Caldwell's appointment was for up to eight years. There are no obvious openings in joint commands. The next opportunity might be Commander, United States Naval Forces Europe - Naval Forces Africa (USNAVEUR-NAVAF)/Commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFC Naples). Is that even a possibility for the current VCNO? – Maliepa (talk) 17:00, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Actually USNAVEUR-NAVAF would also be my best guess given his career in the Atlantic area and in Europe. Admiral Foggo is scheduled to step down this year. The VCNO position is normally seen as a placeholder/transitional four-star position and they are usually move to one of the Navy's designated operating forces after 1 to 2 years as VCNO. Although there is precedence for a VCNO to be promoted to CNO or assignment as a unified combatant commander. Neovu79 (talk) 17:24, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- We were right, Burke is replacing Foggo at USNAVEUR-NAVAF (See Link) Neovu79 (talk) 04:37, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Seeking assistance with an image
editHello User:Maliepa. I created the article Michael E. Stencel and you later added an image to it and improved it very much. I have now created another article, Tracy R. Norris and added an image; however, it does not neatly fit into the info box. Specifically, there is odd text around it. Might you be able to look at it and correct the matter? Most kind regards,Hu Nhu (talk) 03:30, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- Another user fixed the Infobox before I could get to it, but I have since updated the image to a slightly newer one. Also, please check Commons before uploading duplicates of images that already exist there. Best regards, Maliepa (talk) 13:23, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau
editWow, I just seat the general officer nomination you posted in the List of active duty United States four-star officers. They ended up nominating a different officer for vice chief of the National Guard Bureau. The Senate returned Lieutenant General Tim Kadavy's nomination this past January. I'm very curious to know what he was investigated for, that caused his nomination to be under senatorial scrutiny since they let the nomination expire. He's since been reverted back to major general, and has been serving as the special assistant of the chief of the National Guard Bureau. Neovu79 (talk) 00:07, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- The Army's been very quite on Kadavy. The only thing I can think of as to why his nomination failed, is because that he might have a history of being out of touch with the guardsmen who serve in the Army National Guard. Here was a convention with the National Guard Association of the United States in 2016 where then Chief of Staff, GEN Mark Milley was speaking and hosting a Q&A, and there were a few instances where he turns to Kadavy, who was sitting on the dais near the podium, and asked if he knew anything about the issues that guardsmen where speaking of, and he was oblivious to it. Neovu79 (talk) 19:18, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- I've also been looking for information on why the Kadavy nomination stalled, but I haven't found anything so far. Still waiting to see who they choose to replace Dan Hokanson as Army National Guard director. Colorado Adjutant General Michael Loh has been tapped to be Scott Rice's successor as Air National Guard director. – Maliepa (talk) 01:06, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- The candidate that sticks out to me, would be MG Richard F. Johnson as he has a long history working at the National Guard Bureau. However, this office, as well as the office of director of the Air National Guard, are always hard to pinpoint as they interview every eligible Adjutant Generals (TAGs) to fill these offices as well. Neovu79 (talk) 02:28, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Neovu79: They've chosen Minnesota Adjutant General Jon Jensen as the next Army National Guard director. – Maliepa (talk) 14:18, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Update: Kadavy retired on August 3, 2020 and was certified by either the President or the secretary of defense, to retire at his highest achieved rank of lieutenant general. Since the Senate didn't intervene into his retirement rank, that means, at the very least, whatever that was preventing him from becoming the VCNGB was not that serious, and leads me to believe that his blocked nomination was a little more political, than it was a personal question of his character or Army career. Neovu79 (talk) 04:04, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

- I've also been looking for information on why Scott Spellmon's nomination for Chief of Engineers is currently stalled in the Senate. I suspect that it has less to do with MG Spellmon personally and more to do with the politics around the Corps of Engineers' participation in President Trump's Mexican border wall project. – Maliepa (talk) 01:35, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'm thinking it more has to do with the COVID-19 pandemic, as the current chief, LTG Todd T. Semonite, is currently in the middle of spearheading the build up of temporary hospitals at convention centers around the U.S. The President asked him to stay in his office until the Senate confirms his replacement. General Dickinson as VCSO
editHey, quick question. Where are you getting that General Dickinson is going to be the Vice Chief of Space Operations? I did a control F of the source you provided, but I can't find a single mention of him in there? I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case thought. Garuda28 (talk) 23:33, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Garuda28: I couldn't find any reference for Dickinson actually replacing General Raymond at Space Command, but the VCSO position will be created per Secretary Barrett's recommendation by the 2021 Defense Authorization coming before the full Senate next week. If Raymond were being replaced, he would have to be renominated for CSO only. – Maliepa (talk) 23:51, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Maliepa: @Garuda28: This does not look correct. Dickinson's nomination is to be a general in the Army, not the Space Force. He would not be serving as the Space Force's VCSO as an Army officer. His nomination would have been read as (t)he following named officer for appointment in the United States Space Force to the grade indicated while assigned to a position of importance and responsibility under title 10, U.S.C., section 601. Instead, his nomination says (t)he following named officer for appointment in the United States Army to the grade indicated while assigned to a position of importance and responsibility under title 10, U.S.C., section 601.Neovu79 (talk) 03:43, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- Also as a side note, the SECAF does not have the authority to unilaterally transfer a four-star officer to another service, without the officer first gaining presidential and senatorial consent via nomination process. The reason why General Raymond was authorized a transfer to the Space Force without going through that process, is because Congress and the President approved such a transfer via the NDAA 2020, specifically for him, as the commander of Air Force Space Command. Raymond also technically does not need to be renominated to be CSO as the NDAA 2020 stipulates that he must turn over command of USSPACECOM to a new commander, one year after its enactment. While the NDAA 2020 does not give a reason why, but my good assumption is because he will gain the additional responsibility of serving on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, one year after the the law's enactment. Furthermore, they would not nominate an officer from another service to the rank of general for a position that currently does not exist and before the position is submitted for creation. Congress would not approve paying an officer at O-10, while waiting for the VCSO position to be created in the NDAA 2021, as they already know it would be a complete waste of taxpayer money. Neovu79 (talk) 03:59, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

- @Neovu79: Thanks for the explanation. Can you add a footnote about the NDAA 2020 requirements to General Dickinson's position? There still is no proper reference for it. I am also still looking for a citation on General Daly's position. – Maliepa (talk) 11:44, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Maliepa: LTG Daly's assignment can be found HERE via a briefing from GEN Perna at two minutes and 17 seconds into the briefing. He announces his nomination for COOWARPSD as well as mentions that Daly has been confirmed to replace him at AMC. Neovu79 (talk) 17:57, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

- Canney discusses the Algonquin-class of cutters in his book "U.S. Coast Guard and Revenue Service Cutters, 1790–1935". To disambiguate the two different classes I would do like he did and use the date of the class, i.e., "Algonquin-class (1898)"[1] and "Algonquin-class (1934)".[2]

- @Cuprum17: Is it normal to use the last year of a ship class for identification rather than the first? The end of the Sentinel-class cutter series is still not in sight. – Maliepa (talk) 14:15, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Maliepa: No, of course not; normally the first year would be used. My apologies if I used the wrong year as the beginning of the class year. As I look back at my reference, Algonquin was commissioned in 1934. I was probably distracted while trying to finish my comment...mea culpa... Cuprum17 (talk) 17:15, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

- @Cuprum17: There would be less confusion if they had just named the classes after their lead ships, Gresham (built 1896, commissioned 1897) and Escanaba (1932). Just out of interest, should the future ship article title for USRC Algonquin include the commissioning year (1898)? The build year (1897) has also been proposed as an option in at least one current wiki-link on English Wikipedia. – Maliepa (talk) 18:36, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Maliepa:My source (Canney) uses 1898 as a reference year. I would use that. Cuprum17 (talk) 19:06, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

- @Cuprum17: I notice in your objection to deletion that Canney apparently only assigns two members to the first Algonquin class. The article for USRC Manning cites five members in this class using King (1996) as its reference. Can you provide any clarification? – Maliepa (talk) 23:47, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Maliepa: As I recall, I made major modifications to the article on Manning and perhaps the words "sister ships" was a poor choice of words. Reading the words in the Manning article today I can see that it does tend to lead the reader to believe that they were all of the same design. King merely mentions that they were built at the same time. The "sister ships" were all built in the same period but had features that were different in some respects. I have edited the Manning article differently. I would like your opinion on whether it is better worded or not. While the general characteristics of the five cutters were similar, all were of different construction and design except Algonquin and Onondaga. Gresham was the most similar to the Algonquin-class, but it was rigged as a barkentine and the Algonquin and Onondaga had a different sail plan. Thank you for your questioning this. That makes the Manning article more accurate. Thank you again for your interest in Coast Guard related articles, there are not many of us on Wikipedia with that interest.
- On another related matter, I notice that Gresham and Algonquin are still red-linked and don't have articles written about them. Are you contemplating writing those articles? If so, I would help if needed. Just let me know on my talk page. Cuprum17 (talk) 12:59, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Cuprum17: Thank you for the explanation. The modified sentence in the Manning article is better, but the word "class" still appears in the following sentence. Perhaps "group" would be a better word there? But that also doesn't sound quite right to me. I also note that Mohawk was a similar size and design, though never rigged for sail. – Maliepa (talk) 13:21, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Maliepa:I made a change to "group" for lack of a better word, if you can think of a better wording, then by all means change it. Good catch! I seem to have blinders on lately! Cuprum17 (talk) 14:01, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Erik M. Ross
editGreetings Maliepa. Thanks for thanking me for that edit on Wachendorf, sorry I couldn't find his latest official RADM portrait.
I might need help for Erik M. Ross. I managed to spruce up the page a whole bunch but don't know how to effectively summarize the "off-duty incident" that led to his firing. I wanted to ask if you could do effectively. There are more sources but here's the only one I remembered the link to and had cited on-hand: link. SuperWIKI (talk) 10:45, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: the current wording seems like a fine impartial and unsensational summary of the published facts. – Maliepa (talk) 17:21, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- There's hidden text in that section that describes the actual incident of him getting drunk and etc., shouldn't that be included? I don't know how to summarize that without getting too wordy.SuperWIKI (talk) 17:25, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: the reference title is enough. The reader can go read the source material themselves if they want more of the lurid details. You could add that, since his retirement, Ross has been voluntarily publicizing his situation to help other military leaders deal with their job stress in a more appropriate manner. – Maliepa (talk) 17:50, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Will do. Thanks for your advice. SuperWIKI (talk) 17:54, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
David J. Bligh
editMaliepa, I was wondering if you could help me with something. Colonel David J. Bligh was recently nominated for promotion to major general and assignment to replace Daniel J. Lecce as Staff Judge Advocate to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and I'm intending to add his nomination here. However, I'm unable to get a fix on any official portrait of him or his present position, which I need for the appointments table. Given that you're more resourceful at collecting sources and information, I wanted to ask if you could retrieve an official portrait (or multiple, if can be found) of Bligh, upload it, and find his present position? Thanks. SuperWIKI (talk) 14:58, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: no luck so far. I only found one photo on the U.S. Navy JAG Corps twitter feed with Col. Bligh wearing a black COVID mask. – Maliepa (talk) 17:17, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: Updated page from announcements posted today on Defense Department website. – Maliepa (talk) 22:46, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Maliepa: DVIDS has streamed Bligh's promotion to major general. Will hold off on adding him to the major generals page until the SJA website officially has his biography. SuperWIKI (talk) 14:02, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
Charles R. Miller (general)
edit@Maliepa: Hi, would you be able to help me find independent sources for Charles R. Miller (general)? Only references I could find are primary ones. Maybe you could find details on his birth or any other secondary information that would prevent the article from being deleted. Thanks. KingEdinburgh (talk) 08:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- @KingEdinburgh: I got two more references, and then added one more after walking the dog. The image is low resolution, but it appears that he holds THREE Defense Distinguished Service Medals. – Maliepa (talk) 13:07, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Following this conversation, and hold on, THREE DSMs? How in the world? SuperWIKI (talk) 14:44, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- The previous brigadier general image is higher resolution than the current major general one. It turns out that he now holds 3-4 Defense Superior Service Medals. – Maliepa (talk) 17:02, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Maliepa: Thank you so much for the references. I never would have found that information. Would earning a Defense Superior Service Medal be enough to meet WP:NOTABILITY? KingEdinburgh (talk) 01:21, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- @KingEdinburgh: probably not, though getting two of them as a junior officer is interesting. – Maliepa (talk) 16:53, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
Three-star lists
editI'm planning to create lists for three-star generals and admirals starting from at least the 2000s. Already started on the 2010-now list, and am almost done with the Air Force. May I ask that if you have the time, could you find official portraits of admirals/generals at three-star rank if there's none yet on Wikipedia? Know you are already covering Army bases by Russell Roederer and Scott Davis. Secondly, if possible, could you help fill some of the red links in my lists? Some I have already filled. SuperWIKI (talk) 14:17, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: as time permits. I'm systematically slogging through the NARA photos and still finding useful images. I'm finding that the officer names are not always spelled correctly. – Maliepa (talk) 16:53, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
VCNGB to be elevated to four star
editMaliepa, I just read the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act. The current version as it stands in the House (in section 502) is planning to elevate the grade of the vice chief of the National Guard Bureau to general. If passed in the Senate, that'll be enshrined in the U.S. Code. Thoughts, if the House version of the bill gets included in the final version? Seems likely to me that Lt Gen Sasseville will be the one promoted, he's been in office only slightly over a year. SuperWIKI (talk) 18:04, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: Sasseville makes sense, but they still have to pass the bill and make the nomination. – Maliepa (talk) 00:14, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Potential four-stars for this year
editI've just updated my guess list for the potential officers being promoted or appointed to four-star positions this year. Here's the list. I was wondering if you had any opinions or thoughts on it, or if you think if any of my (or KingEdinburgh, who also contributed) guesses are way off mark, in particular the selections for USSOCOM or TRADOC, assuming Funk does a 2+ rather than 3+ year term. Avoiding cut-and-paste moves
editHi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give John William Heard a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into John W. Heard. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 01:52, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- @DanCherek: Sorry, it's been so long that I've had a move blocked by preexisting redirect that I'd forgotten proper procedure. I've been spending most of my time on Commons lately. – Maliepa (talk) 11:06, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- No problem, a history merge has already been carried in this instance, so the issue is resolved. Thanks for your understanding! DanCherek (talk) 11:18, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
LTG George R. Stotser
editJust drawing your attention to the page of George R. Stotser, an Army LTG and former commander of U.S. Army North who died in July 2022 but that fact was left unedited for quite a while afterwards. I've added the death dates, but it might benefit further from your expertise. SuperWIKI (talk) 14:02, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: Thanks, I've been able to fill in some more information. The GOMO resume has a lot more details (but also a few typographical errors), but I'm not good at date-of-rank tables and the chest ribbon display sections for general officers. – Maliepa (talk) 19:59, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Is Stotser's GOMO resume publicly available on your end? As I'm currently fishing around NARA and the Army Center of Military History for dates of rank (DORs) to add to the Army 4-star list for Alexander Haig, Sam S. Walker and William F. Kernan, a place for retired officer's GOMO resumes that I'm not aware of yet could be very valuable for research. Because on my end, the page is just broken with gibberish code I can't decipher. SuperWIKI (talk) 06:24, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: Not sure what's going on. I have no problem opening the pdf link on either my laptop or my tablet. The upload was originally made by Middle Tennessee State Army ROTC, since the resume of Lt. Gen. Horace G. Taylor (B.S., 1960) is also available there [3]. – Maliepa (talk) 13:45, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- If there's an actual date of rank list for Taylor in there, could you check the DOR to lieutenant general, if it's there, against the one in the 1990 to 1999 LTG list and see if it's the same? Seems the same issue exists on my end for Taylor's page too, and the Wayback Machine shows the same error. SuperWIKI (talk) 13:51, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

John W. Raymond DOB
editHi! Would you happen to know sources for John W. Raymond's date of birth? I'm looking to get it reviewed for GA and his DOB would get in the way of that. If not, it might be best to leave out the DOB entirely. Thank you. KingEdinburgh (talk) 13:09, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- @KingEdinburgh: Let me check. Straight off, the Senate Armed Services Committee hasn't released anything yet. They have published transcripts and background information from their confirmation hearings after a suitable time delay. I'll have to visit my local library this week for other possible sources. – Maliepa (talk) 20:58, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- @KingEdinburgh: Unfortunately it's a primary source, but sometimes that's all you can find. Cites date of birth, county of birth and maiden name Ryan for his mother. – Maliepa (talk) 22:21, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Maliepa: Hi, thank you! As time passes, Space Force historians would surely write about Raymond, and I think that would include a secondary source for his DOB. Thanks again! KingEdinburgh (talk) 09:33, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

Full name in body
editThanks for fixing the spelling error at Henry L. Howison. I noticed you removed the full name from the "early life" section with the note of "simplify text". It's somewhat standard on biographies to include the full name (and cite when necessary) after the lead in the first section of the body. Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain to show a couple examples with a GA assessment. --Engineerchange (talk) 02:33, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Additionally, I changed back the spelling to Lycurgis, per this source. Do you have an alternate source? --Engineerchange (talk) 02:36, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Engineerchange: Here are several that use Lycurgus instead of Lycurgis: [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]. And don't get me started on whether he was born in Washington, Indiana or Washington, D.C. (or maybe even Washington County, Indiana) since no one seems to agree. – Maliepa (talk) 03:29, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Maliepa: Oh man, the birth place detail is upsetting. I saw one note he was "a native of Scott County, Indiana" (adjacent to Washington County). I made the fix to the middle name; thank you for the thoroughness there! --Engineerchange (talk) 04:12, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello again!
editHey Maliepa, saw that you were editing War Industries Board and its people! What got you on the topic out of curiosity? I've been researching it a lot myself lately, but still confused by the usage of "priorities board" vs. "priorities committee" (I feel like its inconsistent in places), the board's connection/association to the National Defense Council (is it adjacent, is it part of), and its intersection with other groups, like labor. I do think there are enough members to allow for a category of people on Wikipedia now. I'm glad to have another editor helping in this area though, so cheers! --Engineerchange (talk) 14:31, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Engineerchange: Lately I've been concentrating on adding photographs to military biography articles without any and then adding additional biographical details. During that process, I saw the photograph of Rear Adm. A. V. Zane of the priorities committee on Commons with an unidentified Army major general sitting next to him. Curiosity then took over. I had already encountered Zane while researching the Rodgers and Stoney Arctic expeditions.
- The War Industries Board references indicate that the priorities division had both a board and a committee with Judge Parker as chairman of both and many of the same members on each. One set policy and the other ironed out details. The 1919 organization reference that I found and added mostly refers to divisions and committees with little mention of division boards. I'm not sure that I have time to explore this too much further. – Maliepa (talk) 17:37, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- No worries, just fun to see someone else on the topic. Are you writing an article on Zane? --Engineerchange (talk) 17:42, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Engineerchange: I filled out the Wikidata items for Zane and Rear Adm. W. L. Howard when I was researching Stoney, but I'm not sure that a full article on English Wikipedia can be justified for either, though Howard already has a French Wikipedia entry. He was captain of a battleship kept in reserve during World War I and didn't become a rear admiral until after the war. FYI, I just created a Wikidata item for Frank A. Scott which might lead to something. No promises. – Maliepa (talk) 18:57, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, appreciate the thoughts and the reply! Thanks for all that you do. --Engineerchange (talk) 19:05, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Engineerchange: I was wrong. The latest reference that I found shows that the only common member between the priorities board and the priorities committee was Judge Parker. The board consisted mainly of representatives from other federal departments, administrations and boards. – Maliepa (talk) 13:47, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
