Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Miniature car racing

edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Miniature car racing indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Annh07 (talk) 12:26, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi "wikipedia friends". While not objecting the criteria you listed, I would like to bring these arguments to your attention:
  • The article has been adapted (not translated) from the "de" one, replicating same sources
  • The purpose of this creation would be that of turn to "blue" multiple entries by this team over the years (since 2011) in major series, particularly those in lists of winners
  • While it's not a good reason for that (I'd say too), plenty of racing teams just stubs with lower-quality refs, I should say
gtp (talk) 15:29, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
If they are currently redlinked as the winners of notable competitions I would assume sources do exist to show notability. Note that sources do not have to be in English. Yes lots of articles do exist that are sub standard, but slowly they are either being improved to the current standards or deleted. At the moment you just have the teams own website (not independent) and three stats pages so nothing of any substance. Regards KylieTastic (talk) 17:21, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Is there a reason why your signature used to be mct and is now gtp while your actual username is MC12GT1? While it isn't strictly prohibited, it can be confusing to read a talk page. See WP:SIGPROB. TiggerJay(talk) 19:27, 28 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, sorry to all "wikipedians". The truth is that I created my account 10 years ago when I was a child as it was a "game", then I kept it over the years when thing made "more serious". What's more Maserati today is not doing so well. So my goal would be to have, at least in Talk pages, my initials displayed in order to have people think they are talking with an "adult" person.
Maybe I'll find out how to add a neutral link to UP. Thank you again for understanding. gtp (talk) 06:51, 29 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

on the redirects in quotes

edit

this rfd discussion (yes, i know that's a case of ras syndrome) might keep clawing away at my mind for the rest of time. i gotta know what exactly you meant by... anything there

  • who are "these people" that apparently "are impossible to discuss with", "are vigilantes, here to maintain the status quo", and "don't read"? those are pretty serious accusations to make without elaborating
  • what does it have to do with whether or not wikipedia's search function is case sensitive?
  • what do quotation marks have to do with whether or not wikipedia's search function is case sensitive?
  • you do know that it's mostly not case sensitive, right? as in, if the first character in a title or after a namespace is a letter, it's gonna be capital, no matter what you input. you type "help:contents" in the search bar, it's gonna assume you wanted "Help:Contents". yes, this means there's technically no difference between someone wanting "summer" with a lowercase or yucky stinky capital s
  • you do know that redirects with quotation marks interfere with people attempting to search for exact text strings in articles, right?

it is admittedly a pile of technicalities, but it's a pile of technicalities that make your arguments, as you made them, kind of weird in the long run consarn (speak evil) (see evil) 13:28, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Well, no problem. Simply if you read every single comment it's clear 90% din't read the whole converstation, maybe just the rationale. J947 is one of my wiki "friends", so I was embarassed he got there to support my discussion, while it was cleare we had no channce. So I wrote those "strong" things just to persuad him to stop losing his time there...for me. gtp (talk) 16:07, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
that doesn't answer much, if i'm going to be honest. if i'm reading it right, the creations were there to test lowercase searches... which doesn't add up when they're still capitalized, even though the first letters in all those redirects were the second characters in the titles
i also don't think casting aspersions is a particularly effective way of persuading people, but that's another story consarn (speak evil) (see evil) 16:20, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Summmarizing, I would like everybody to think that just as a "private" (I know it's not) message to my wiki-friend and, since I don't think it was offensive, I wrote down my perception at that precise time and circumstances without "hiding" my feelings (frustration at that time). Violation you cited is just your opinion, exactly as my perceived feelings were in that circumstance. gtp (talk) 16:24, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Answering, the technical, my target was clearly not that of starting a "revolution" in redirects, just a way to point out the problem while creating a bunch of major possible useful terms (in particular proper names "Summer, Era", etc.) gtp (talk) 16:28, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
there are some problems with this
  • to get to those redirects, a reader would have to type in at least one of the quotation marks in the first place
  • how can you determine what someone would be looking for with redirects of this nature? by targeting dabs, it only really implies that the answer is "lol idk"
  • wikipedia titles still aren't case sensitive, and are automatically corrected, so whether they look for "era" or "Era", they'd end up in the same article. to be kept, there would need to be proof that something was primarily known with quotation marks, which is a case i've pretty much never seen before or since "loss", and careful examination of that redirect will reveal that it doesn't lead to a dab
  • i don't think stating that calling people "vigilantes" who "can't read" and leaving it at that is cringe is "just my opinion", when there are entire policies about why it is cringe (see wp:npa, wp:aspersions mentioned above, wp:civ...)
as is, j947 was right in saying that there's no practical way around them with wikipedia's technical limitations, but this workaround involves creating unnatural redirects in targets that are possibly not even fitting, so it's best avoided. that essay i just linked even provides redirects in quotations as examples of titles that are usually considered unnatural consarn (speak evil) (see evil) 16:45, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't think I wrote exactly "vigilantes who can't read", now checking. gtp (talk) 16:49, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
forgot some quotation marks, ironically consarn (speak evil) (see evil) 16:51, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok, obviously, I didn't say that, just exposed my perception of people answering bu not reading previous replies. gtp (talk) 16:53, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
"These people don't read, they are vigilantes, here to maintain the status quo". Anyway it was just my perceived situation at that moment, in that circumstance. I would like you all to not feel directly or personally involved, while it's a clodes discussion (for me), while I apologize if anybody would have felt cited. gtp (talk) 16:51, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
you really don't just say something like this, explain who it was directed at, and then say that they shouldn't feel like it was directed at them. i get that you were frustrated, but you didn't need to say half of that to what can be very easily interpreted as a category of people that included 1ctinus (new page reviewer, has been around since 2019), sonic678 (has been around since 2015), hog farm (admin, has been around since 2019), and ironically, j947 (new page reviewer, pending changes reviewer, and rollbacker, has been around since 2017). they're far from likely candidates for most of those descriptions, though an argument could be made for that "consarn" guy, he's a real wonk
sorry for the escalation, but considering that arguments containing personal attacks are routinely disregarded in rfd (see here for a big example), it seems to come from a technical misunderstanding, and this discussion only really answers the least important of thus far six questions i had, i'm starting to think a better argument might exist, but hasn't been made yet consarn (speak evil) (see evil) 17:20, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Understood. Well...I didnt' answer since, currently, I'm convinced too: it's better deleting. Maybe, one day, it will be refined the use of advanced search. That would be the goal. gtp (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Now, I'm convinced of that since also noticed it'll appear with ""Era"" in searches which I really dislike double "". gtp (talk) 17:33, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
