Edit warring on a TFA on an IB? Really?
You have recently made edits related to discussions about infoboxes and to edits adding, deleting, collapsing, or removing verifiable information from infoboxes. This is a standard message to inform you that discussions about infoboxes and to edits adding, deleting, collapsing, or removing verifiable information from infoboxes is a designated contentious topic. This message does not imply that there are any issues with your editing. For more information about the contentious topics system, please see Wikipedia:Contentious topics. - SchroCat (talk) 16:31, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- I checked the history of the page and there seems to be no signs of me edit warring? You might be mistaking me for the wrong person doing this. I'm generally a newbie to actual editing on WP, so I might have done a mistake by accident. Again, I might be wrong, so I'm asking you to explain where I did something wrong so I can learn from my mistakes. Davest3r08 (talk) 16:37, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- It was added earlier then removed and there is an open thread about its inclusion. By re-inserting you've ignored BRD and STATUSQUO and are edit warring - and on a TFA too, which isn't great. - SchroCat (talk) 16:40, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oh. Davest3r08 (talk) 16:40, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- In my defense though, I was very unaware that someone had added an infobox that got removed. I was also unaware of the thread. I'm deeply sorry. Davest3r08 (talk) 16:43, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for self-reverting. As IBs are not compulsory or used on all articles, and are often contentious, it’s probably best to check on talk pages to see if there is a discussion or previous consensus. Thanks for your edit, which reduces some of the dramah connected with these things. - SchroCat (talk) 17:06, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Welcome
my story today |
---|
I am sorry that you got into an edit-war inadvertently, and were treated to all these abbreviations. If you don't know an abbr, try to put "WP:" before, and if will often work: WP:TFA, WP:BRD. It's always safe not to touch a TFA unless reverting spelling mistakes and vandalism. As for the name in the infobox of an article I don't feel comfortable to touch, I think that while it's not ideal to have the same name above and below an image, without it above, how would I be informed that the name with the abbreviated middle initial is the WP:COMMONNAME, when the first bold mentioning is without abbreviation? Just from the article title? I'd rather have it double but clear. Just food for thought. My story today is The Company of Heaven ("company" with a double meaning, but angelic company in the end). Happy editing. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:06, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

- It's not worth edit warring with people over IBs, even when they don't know the article name or what it's about - it's a knee-jerk thing about insisting on a box even when they have no interest in the article or subject matter - it only ever leads to grief. Minor edits
Hi, I'd suggest reading Help:Minor edit and think about using the minor edit flag less often. In many of your recent edits that you have marked as minor, I'd say they are not "minor" under most editors' definitions. For example [1] and [2] both add significant amount of content that a reasonable editor may disagree with. Skynxnex (talk) 17:41, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

You might want to consider using _

SpeciesHelper
Hey there. I'm the author of the SpeciesHelper script and I saw one of your edits pop up on my watchlist. Unfortunately I think the SpeciesHelper script is making some mistakes. For example it looks like my assumption that an article should only have a taxobar OR an authority control and not both was incorrect. I've updated the script to not remove authority controls anymore. Here's another example of a mistake. It added the Category:Sula but failed to see that this redirects to Category:Boobies, a category the article was already in. Anyway, I guess the moral of the story is, please be careful. Check each diff carefully and make sure you agree with the changes. Oh and also, SpeciesHelper is much more helpful on new species articles than old ones. Old ones are likely to already be correct so changes to them may be wrong. Whereas newer species articles still need a lot of work and changes to them are more likely to be correct. Hope this helps. Happy editing. –Novem Linguae (talk) 08:24, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Your archiving at ANI
Hi, Davest3r08. I don't think it was a good idea for you to archive the discussion "Darker Dreams and Witchcraft" literally minutes after I had closed it. As it says at the top of the page, "Closed discussions should not usually be archived for at least 24 hours." The Darker Dreams discussion had been long and lively, and I'm sure many people were interested in how it would eventually be closed. They shouldn't simply have found the whole thing had disappeared when they next looked at ANI. I have unarchived the discussion. (I've left the other, short, discussion archiving that you did alone, as that close wasn't so recent.) I understand that you wanted to help, but perhaps you should get a little more experience under your belt before you perform more actions of this nature. Bishonen | tålk 08:51, 21 October 2023 (UTC).

RSN
If you want to keep asking questions about sources at RSN, you have to follow the directions. They are simple and clear. Provide a link to the specific source, the specific statement that it is to support and the specific article. Follow this format: "Is X source reliable for Y statement in Z article?", providing links. Banks Irk (talk) 01:17, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

Warnings for IPs
A warning left for an IPv4 address (like 255.255.255.255) has limited odds of reaching its intended recipient, but leaving a warning for an IPv6 address is imho pretty much pointless. These tend to be phones and are highly unlikely to keep their IP for even a single day. Their IP more than likely gets reassigned within an hour so some random person may receive the warning instead. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 21:02, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

About a history split
Hey Davest3r08, I just wanted to let you know that I've requested a history split on Detrans (short film) because there are a lot of revisions that are unrelated to the current topic of the article. I wanted to leave this note to advise you not to blank and replace the contents of drafts — even in your own userspace — to avoid this kind of issue in the future. There's nothing wrong with simply creating a new page for the content, but if you'd like the old material removed from your userspace altogether, you can always nominate the page for speedy deletion under criterion U1 and then start a new page at that title. Both of these would help keep the page histories of otherwise unrelated topics separate, which helps to reduce confusion or mistakes from other editors down the line. Thanks! —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 20:31, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Omegle homepage.png
Thanks for uploading File:Omegle homepage.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. LucasKannou (talk) 03:40, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:Alia Shelesh.png
Thanks for uploading File:Alia Shelesh.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 15:16, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Alexis Jazz, so is the suitable means of getting a free image in this context is to contact the copyright owner, SSSniperWolf? — Davest3r08 (^_^) (talk) 15:53, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- That, or arrange for a visit to take a photo yourself, or meet her at a comic con to take a photo yourself, or in a supermarket, or contact any photographer who ever took a photo of her.
"Note that the replacement image does not need to exist; it is sufficient that it could be created – for example, in most cases, a photograph of a living person can be taken and released under a free licence."
In some cases there are exceptions to that, for example, I once discussed an image of someone who was once Miss Universe or something similar. While she was still alive, a photo of an 80-year old woman wouldn't be helpful for identification of her as Miss Universe decades ago, so a fair use image would be allowed. There may also be cases where a person can't realistically be approached due to circumstances, these cases usually need some discussion (like people who are incarcerated for life or where approaching them would likely endanger the photographer), but Shelesh doesn't fall into any of these categories. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 16:14, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

IP block exemption
Hi Davest3r08. I saw your question at the Teahouse regarding occasional issues with IP blocks preventing you from editing. You appear to be using a novel VPN service which rapidly reassigns your public IP address within several large blocks. We frequently block IP addresses used by anonymizing services (like open proxies and VPN providers) when they are used abusively by unrelated users, and that seems to be the case for many addresses used by your provider. The blocks are not because of anything you did, but from other people using the same provider.
I am granting your account the IP block exemption (IPBE) flag for three months, which will mean you are not affected by these IP blocks. After three months, you will need to either make a new request, or stop using your VPN service when you edit Wikipedia. IPBE will not prevent your account from being blocked, and the flag can be removed if you abuse it. If you have any questions about this you can reply here or leave a message on my talk page. Thanks. Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:38, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
While I appreciate your suggestion for a peer review, I don't find it particularly necessary. The fact that the article is relatively new is somewhat irrelevant, it was split from Twitter recently, hence most of the content itself isn't actually new. Enough experienced users have already passed through and made subtle changes. It's not that I wanted the article to be rated "THAT badly" as you put it, given it often takes months for articles to be reviewed for such a standard, but more so that I would of preferred you not deleting the nomination that you don't appear to have legitimate reason for doing. Recommending an alternative approach isn't a legit reason. CommunityNotesContributor (talk) 18:30, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- CommunityNotesContributor, fair point actually. I was pretty scared the nom would end up in a quickfail, but you're right. Article age does not affect its quailty. That was pretty stupid of me to do, I apologize. — Davest3r08 >:) (talk) 18:34, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- No problem, thanks for acknowledging. I'll return the nomination now based on this discussion. Also with people like yourself making corrections and improvements, I don't feel it needs further peer review :) CommunityNotesContributor (talk) 18:43, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Less specific stubcat
A few months ago, in your edit to Tyrannochthonius norfolkensis, you changed {{pseudoscorpion-stub}} to the less specific {{arachnid-stub}}. Was this a mistake, or was it automatically carried out by SpeciesHelper? jlwoodwa (talk) 05:04, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Jlwoodwa, yes, it was in SpeciesHelper, which I don't really use anymore. In fact, the developer of the tool themselves came on my talk page telling me that I was misusing it. I generally just do my own research now before making an article related to a species, genus, family, etc. — Davest3r08 >:) (talk) 12:01, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

Welcome. One person cannot make a dent on the backlog, but together we can do more! A fair amount of pages in the backlog are lists of games and internet culture stuff (by typing in search bar video games incategory:"All articles lacking sources"

The Completionist GA
Hey LunaEclipse, I saw that you nominated The Completionist for GA status. Although I appreciate the nomination, I'm a little unsure if it's the right time to nominate it at the moment. There are some crucial details still missing from the article, such as the fallout with charity and its resolution, plus the Elsie development and aspects of his personal life, that I feel would go against the "broad detail" criteria. I was actually hoping to wait a bit until we have more info about the charity situation to nominate for GA, seeing as how it's technically "ongoing." Otherwise, I fear that the article would radically change once that info is revealed which could affect its GA standing. If you still feel it's worth a GA nomination however, feel free, but IMO I'd recommend waiting a bit. Thanks, PantheonRadiance (talk) 00:00, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

LunaEclipse, will you be able to to return to your review here, or should we find a new reviewer to finish up? I did notice that you have a "busy" template up, but I do see some recent edits, so I don't want to jump to any conclusions. Please let me know (a ping here is fine) if you won't be returning. Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:27, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Track listings and credits don't need sources
Hello. Regarding your addition of a source to the track listing of In Waves, while I appreciate that you might want to be careful about sourcing on topics you're interested in, there's no need to source track listings or credits to external sources or liner notes per MOS:ALBUM, which states that the album itself is the source and it's expected credits come from the liner notes. Some editors like to stockpile sources on articles they create, but I usually don't see the need for any more than four when an album has just been announced. There are plenty more I could have added but I chose not to overcite. I don't think any editor will question where the track listing came from, as if they were to check literally any news article about it, they'd see the track list themselves, so there's really no need to add another source or use an existing one, especially given MOS:ALBUM saying there's no need for it as well. Of course there are exceptions, like if liner notes don't credit somebody but they do perform on a track, we would need an additional source for contentious details like that. I just don't think In Waves is one. Ss112 20:06, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi! I noticed that you nominated the article Akai MPC for Good article status. You do not appear to have made significant edits to the article prior to this, and there is no discussion about nominating the article on its talk page. Current practice is that only editors who have significantly contributed to the article are able to nominate it (see the nomination instructions). I have consequently removed the nomination for now. Consider discussing whether the article is ready to be nominated with the article's principal editors on the talk page. Thank you. ~~~~ B3251(talk) 20:17, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- B3251, you most likely made a mistake. WP:GA/I says that "If the nominator is either the author of less than 10% of the article or ranked sixth or lower in authorship, [...] it can be uncontroversially considered a drive-by nomination. You can notify the nominator on their talk page." I am in the top 5 in terms of authorship, according to Xtools. — 🌙Eclipse (talk) (contribs) 20:38, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Actually, nevermind, I just read your notes at the GAN. — 🌙Eclipse (talk) (contribs) 20:41, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- I apologize for the initial confusion. I wasn't sure myself if this could be considered a drive-by nomination, so I initially asked other Wikipedians for their input at first. B3251(talk) 20:47, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
