NRHP stuff
editHey, like nature i hate a vacuum, so must jump in. I noticed your edits to National Register of Historic Places listings in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, which i have no idea why is on my watchlist. Nice to see you adding pictures! I'm going to start a stub article for one of the places you added a picture for, just to show you what can easily be done for any NRHP-listed place using an NRHP infobox/article starter tool that you might want to try, yourself. - I went to start an article on "Washington House Inn" but find that is in fact not NRHP-listed. I take it that it is a contributing property within the Washington Avenue Historic District (Cedarburg, Wisconsin) so I started that district article instead and added the Inn's picture there. The NRHP list-article is intended to show just the separately NRHP-listed properties and districts, and to display the National Register database names for places, so I am going to reverse/revise some of your edits to the Ozaukee list-article. However, the National Register database does have typos and other errors in it, so your attention to possible errors is appreciated. In particular I see that you changed "Moquon" to "Mequon" in the name of Mequon Town Hall and Fire Station Complex, which I assume is your identifying that there is a typo in the National Register. Since Mequon, Wisconsin is a town and Moquon, Wisconsin is not, this seems like an obvious error to be corrected. I and other NRHP editors are collecting and reporting such errors to the National Register, and I'll add this one to our error report list (and leave it as you corrected it in the Ozaukee list-article). - Got your note back. Glad you're available and interested to work on these Ozaukee County NRHP articles. About the plaque, I've come to learn that every contributing property within a historic district is apparently entitled to put one of those plaques in front. They are, indeed, listed on the National Register, although within the overall listing by the historic district, not separately. The Ozaukee County NRHP list-article is intended to list all of the separately listed ones, but not every contributing building within each of the historic districts. On a pic-taking trip once, I was very confused by plaques when looking for one house that was both separately listed and also included in a historic district. Many of the houses around it also had plaques, and i got diverted. If there is enough information available to write a full article, it can be okay to write a separate article about a contributing property like the Washington Inn one, but I think it is usually best, at least at first, to describe a place like that in a section within the larger historic district's article, which certainly should be developed to list all the major contributing properties. Going to the local library is probably a great way to get info to develop that article. They may have clippings files on historical sites, and they may have copies of the NRHP nomination documents (which you will find are very useful). Regards, doncram (talk) 22:35, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- It looks like our interests intersect in several ways, Loopy! I love taking pictures of Historic Places in Wisconsin! I used to live in Sheboygan and I used to go to southeast Wisconsin for work. Let me know if you need any help with historic places and/or Wisconsin topics! I have lots of experience. Any historic place that you can photograph in Wisconsin is a GREAT THING! Loopygrumpkins, please feel free to post questions or comments at the NRHP wikiproject talk page (shortcut wt:NRHP ) and to announce any new NRHP articles you create in the new articles box on the wikiproject's main page (wp:NRHP). Listing there tends to get you some helpful edits from other NRHP-interested editors.
- Also, I notice your nice new article with picture on Cedarburg Mill. I just edited a little within that, to clean up the image display and otherwise. I surmise that you created the NRHP infobox manually, rather than using the User:Elkman-supported "NRHP infobox generator" tool. You may want to try that for your next article, it is easy to use, at http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/infobox.php. You would just enter "Cedarburg" and "WI" and it would give u a cut-and-paste ready output, filled out with the public domain National Register database fields filled out. Because its output differed in a couple places from what you put into the Cedarburg Mill infobox, i added some alternative information there which you may want to take a look at. Cedarburg schools
editI noticed that you created several pages for primary schools in Cedarburg: Parkview Elementary School, Thorson Elementary School, Webster Transitional School, and Westlawn Elementary School. WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines say that elementary and middle schools are not considered notable, and therefore don't deserve their own articles. I asked for advice on the Cedarburg schools' articles on the WikiProject Schools Talk Page, and it was suggested to either merge those articles with the Cedarburg article or to combine them into an article on the Cedarburg School District. I think the second choice sounds like a good plan. What do you think? --Sift&Winnow 14:44, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- From the peanut gallery: Hey, Loopygrumpkins, please don't be discouraged by this. You seem to me to have been doing a great job getting started in wikipedia, including by not putting all your investment in just one area. It takes a while to learn the ropes, about what can happen when you start articles. No better way to do it than just try things. Here, you are bumping into the policy/guidelines on notability of schools, which has been sorted out through a lot of practice and argument elsewhere, and which I understand basically is just as Winnow is stating: that any high school is deemed notable but lower schools are not (unless they are notable for some other reason, such as exceptional architecture or notable association with desegregation court cases or other reasons that might be documented in an NRHP listing). You could not know about the practices beforehand. So, as Winnow suggests, merging the primary school articles into an article on the district (with a section on each school) is probably the best option. Thanks for merging the Cedarburg Schools. I did some copyediting on the article because a lot of things were repeated after being copied from the separate articles. I removed a couple of See Also links because they were linked in the article and added an external link to the school district website. - You're certainly improving the article, but providing sources for your additions would add a lot, and is one of the cornerstones of WP. Unfortunately, we can't easily do anything about the mass of unsourced material that's already there, but if you could try to remember to provide sources for your additions in the future, that would be great! --Sift&Winnow 20:47, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Hey Loopygrumpkins! Great job on all your edits and additions to WP:WPWI-related articles. I noticed that you created Cedarburg School District several months ago. In that time, an anonymous IP added unsourced, controversial statements regarding some events that took place at the school here. Those edits were clearly in violation of WP:BLP since they contained potentially defamatory statements about living persons. I talked to the anonymous editor on his/her talk page, trying to encourage the addition of sources so that the information could be included in some form, but the anon seems to have disappeared.
Would you be interested or able to deal with the district controversy on the article with sources? It seems from your user page that you are familiar with the area. Freistadt is part of Mequon not a unincorporated community

- Okay-I just saw your reasons given on the Freistadt, Wisconsin talk page-as I told Royalbroil-I am open to the Freistadt, Wisconsin article to be be recreated if there is some historical/cultural nobility and if Freistatdt not be consider an unincorporated community which it is not it is part of Mequon and should remain link to the article about Mequon.
