Darnell Edge college career

Hello. I see that all of the college section except for the senior season has been wrongfully deleted. These were not added to solely “promote the subject” but to summarize his career in each season. I cited and referenced multiple sources and feel these have been wrongfully deleted. I would like to put these back up because not only did it take time to write, but these were also properly sourced and cited from publicly accessible sources. @InfinitiBowie97: Hello, Wikipedia articles are generally supposed to be based on sources that are independent of the subject, so if you would like to restore the material, please provide independent sources to cite on the article talk page at Talk:Darnell Edge and use {{edit COI}} for other neutral editors to review and possibly implement your requested edits. Hi thanks for the explanation. I’m afraid I don’t understand. The sources I provided are from Darnell’s stats and various digital newspaper articles. Are these not independent sources? @InfinitiBowie97: The material I removed in this edit was cited entirely to his school's website, which is not an independent source. It's not really appropriate for an encyclopedia article to be written like that. If reliable sources independent of his school didn't take notice of his freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons, then the encyclopedia shouldn't take notice of them either. One possible suggestion would be to find local reliable newspapers covering him, and use those to build the article. Further discussion should continue at the article talk page. I can understand how the sources from his schools website do not count. However, many of the sources that I cited were in fact from newspaper articles, such as within his junior season included an article from the New York Times would you omitted. So I believe those should still suffice. But I will, go through the instructions he provided, but I fear that most of the citations I will provide on the talk page are still going to be the same citations from at least the newspaper articles that I already provided that you omitted. @InfinitiBowie97: I did make a mistake in removing one source (junior season free throw award) because it was incorrectly labeled as "FDU Knights" even though it now appears to be an independent source upon closer examination. Page size

Hi there. If you need to run a page size on an old version of a page, e.g. LeBron James, Prosesize works by just clicking on the version you want in page history, then running the gadget. I accessed that version by going to the talk page "article milestones" template, because scrolling through the article history would've taken an eternity to get to 2013. Yao

The URL to the journal that you added to Yao Ming looks like it could be copyrighted material. We generally shouldn't link to them from WP (WP:COPYVIOEL), though it's OK to list the other source info. Am I missing something? —Bagumba (talk) 09:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

If I click on "Full article", it's asking me for payment. But I could be blind. Otherwise, someone paying for this doesn't give them permission to redistribute it. And sure, this kind of "free" material is everywhere on the internet, but WP just shouldn't link to it. Again, it's fine to cite it, but the link should not go to copyvio material. @Bagumba: I clicked one of those "cite this article" buttons on the journal site, which I find simpler than WP citation templates, and there doesn't seem to be a need for uniformity as the only entry for a new further reading section. By the way, do you know of any other NBA players who are the main subject of peer-reviewed academic journal articles? @Bagumba: This is sort of a meta-issue, but it'd be nice if there was a way to wean sports editors off of regurgitating daily news published by ESPN and the like, and seek out peer-reviewed academic journals and books by reputable publishers. News outlets are relatively bottom-of-the-barrel in the big picture when it comes to sourcing an encyclopedia, and they often aren't secondary sources. Most of the rest of the encyclopedia seems to understand this pretty well, though if you hang out at ITN often you might see a different side of the project. I'm not the type to document every triple-double, but I do create bios on players that won't ever have dedicated books, let alone appearing in peer-reviewed journals. Throughout my search a bunch of sources talked of a rivalry from the 80s, but were not significant to prove anything. Thus these three are probably the greatest I found. @Conyo14: The 1987 Washington Post article seems like a good one that meets all of the GNG criteria. Boston Herald I am unable to access, but it's worth noting that it shows up in yellow on the source highlighter tool, so somewhere somehow the community deemed it marginally reliable or no consensus as a publisher. Bleacher Report is generally unreliable as indicated at WP:RSNBA#Generally unreliable based on its three linked RSN discussions. You might be interested in User:Left guide/sandbox5 where over the past few days I've been documenting an analysis of the article's pre-existing references and links, in addition to a couple of books I found, and also WP:RSN#Sports Publishing/Skyhorse and Triumph Books where I asked the community about the reliability of said books. In summary, from my perspective your sources seem to have elevated the article topic from a weak delete to a borderline case, possibly a weak keep. If I may ask, are you solely focused on this one rivalry? Or would you be interested in taking on the notability of {{NBA rivalries}} on a larger scale? If the latter, there are about a dozen NBA rivalry articles with unclear notability that could benefit from more research.
